So to get you started - I'm in Alice Springs, the wet desert today. I work at as a VET Developer
-
-
Just checking out those from my desk and checking into ...hot and sunny here although rain predicted
-
Question 1 coming up soon
-
-
-
I also work at at as an applied researcher mostly in workforce planning and development
-
-
You're welcome to extend your involvement and join over the next hour - talking Industry Engagement
-
Also anyone from want to join? Follow Sue for questions.
-
Sounds interesting. So what VET quals would relate to your role? CIV/Dip Business?
-
So lots of industries to liaise with for you?
-
What industry helps the , we all need them.
-
Question 2 is coming up soon
-
A1 Roles vary depending on how you define industry, training and the qualification (assuming enrolled students)
-
OUr hashtag for the next hour is (and if you can fit it in)
-
-
Talking in context of industry & those who deliver training collaborating so the training is what industry need
-
-
A2 can you give an example from one industry that is active in ? Where does language differ?
-
RT Do we know who in industry they talk to? And do they speak the same language? https://t.co/uKWK5r4TEf
-
-
Working w/ Nursing, Comm Services, Conservation, Business & Beauty teams so looking forward to engaging w\ industry https://t.co/VdUGcGBvh5
-
-
A2 Often training orgs use our industry lingo - TAS, moderation, validation etc. Means nothing to a tradesperson
-
-
Don't feel you have to respond to every tweet in a Go with what you can cope with, and remember to include
-
A2 Good communication, respect, understanding, patience, sincerity, humour
-
-
Q2 I'd be happy to include VET and HE library educators in our planning activities / sessions on future directions
-
Yes! All very important. And being wiling to meet timeframes that suit industry. Flexibility is v important.
-
A2 and we don't always know the trade lingo. Need plain English on both sides.
-
Do educators delivering Library relevant quals consult with you in planning training / course development?
-
A3 Ideally one chosen by the industry in a rep role, also need a real passion for E&T and time to share it
-
-
Q3 Industry representation needs to get a good cross section of key employers. Skills needed can be v different
-
And Q4 is on it's way soon
-
Good one! That brings us back to "Who is Industry", if "Industry" is going to choose the reps.
-
-
Yes. We also have some consultation with national bodies. It is hard tho as skills needed moving very fast
-
-
-
-
A good base knowledge is great but what we really need are adaptable & creative problem solvers
-
True. And often training packages don't keep up as fast so RTO's hands are tied
-
I'm wondering about cross-industry study? Does that help with good problem solving? Like IT + Business?
-
-
Yes - so that needs to be built into the choice of elective units in, say CIV or Dip of Library quals.
-
We're half way through and Q5 is coming up soon.
-
Yes. Perhaps that is a key issue. How can we make packages more agile?
-
-
Oh if we knew the answer to that one!
-
A4Listen, join industry bodies, stay connected, be flexible, build relationships, retain personal currency
-
I proposed to ALIA that perhaps one model is to have specialisations that need to be renewed periodically
-
Personal currency is a hot topic at the moment - a good one for a separate maybe
-
Don't forget we have prizes up for grabs so please join in the for w\ & https://t.co/N7Vjp8ME6P

Lets start with the simple questions first. HaHa
-
We're moving on to Q6 in a minute
-
-
Q5Creatively providing and guiding learning opportunities that meet given reqs but also new needs
-
Any suggestions for encouraging Trainers / Lecturers to join industry bodies?
-
What do library jobs look like in the future? What new skills needed? How do we deliver that? https://t.co/IMZfqFhasq
-
We're on the homeward stretch now. Q7 coming up
-
Q5 identify emerging innovative industries & engage, build relationships. Identify skill sets as a starting point?
-
Q6If the passion is there they can find time Ask them how they would like to communicate maybe go digital!
-
-
So consulting about course we may not even offer yet!
-
Digital is great - for some! But others are reluctant to try it. Maybe we need to teach them how :)
-
Maybe will dip in when she is out of her current meeting, to answer this one.
-
HaHa Touche! Mix of gen skills (tech / problem solving) & long list of specialisations
-
A7: Find out how Industry current communicates (tech or not) and dip in to that.
-
One last question (and then a bonus!) Q8 in a minute
-
Yes - and that means getting out there talking to them in the first place - by whatever means. Meet where they are at.
-
-
Perhaps short JIT certifications to allow for lifelong PD. Easy access & MicroCredentials
-
agree,f2f impt for relationships, find best times to meet,join/present at their meetings, build trust, offer alternatives
-
Sounds like maybe a place for digital for short courses
-
Thanks everyone at . Great ideas & I've learned a lot! Gtg to a meeting now. Hope to see you at other events :-)
-
A8Calendar entry, blog, photos, emails, tweets, groupies, create shared digital industry repositories for staff to populate
-
-
Thanks for joining us. Love your feedback later on the bonus Q9, and on this style of discussion
-
Some great ideas there. Love the idea of a shared digital repository.
-
A9 Great chat questions, thanks I think this could be monthly and used as a vehicle to engage VET across Australia.
-
Q9Good stimulation just after lunch, many topics of interest, fortnightly,qs in advance, add links for learning
