Greetings #utedchat! Marci from Sandy. One of my favorite Christmas traditions is opening a new family game on Christmas Adam (the night before Christmas Eve). š
I'm Amberly, teacher in Nebo. My favorite traditions are decorating my tree with all my ornaments from when I was a kid and seeing the lights! #utedchat
A1: one to one chromebooks, 10 ipads, 15 phones for VR, quality VR headsets, robots, interactive whiteboard, projector, doc cam, breakout kit, I could go on;) #utedchat
Do extra people count. My littles just need more adult help. Only me makes for a lot of wait time for my kinders. But if I actually need to spend it on technology I would have someone design me an app that is made just for Kindergarten.
#utedchat
A1: At the moment I would love a chrome cart for all my chromebooks that are taking up all my plugs and counter space!
I would also love some Breakout EDU boxes #utedchat
We already are super blessed to have one-to-one Chromebooks, but my next wish would be quality headsets with microphones.... But a grant for that is in the works thanks to help from @pamturley55 ! #utedchat
A2: if money were no objectā¦ I would have floor-to-ceiling bookshelves with a library fully stocked with the latest award-winning novels and my personal favorites around at least 2 walls...I would have white boards that slide up and down as well as side to side...#utedchat
A1 continued... MacBook computers instead of PCs...more flexible seating, scratch that, another classroom space for discussion and group work and my computer lab.... so many things...a makerspace...#UTedChat
If I had unlimited funding Iād want, smaller class sizes, more books, freedom to design my classroom space and furniture, and funding to make sure my students have food and other basic needs cared for so that I can focus on relationships and learning. Oh and 1:1 tech. #utedchat
A2- That's a hard one! I love all of Audrey and Don Woods books. They have great illustrations and text. But that would be more for kids. Can;t wait to here what adults are reading! #utedchat
I have been reading The Culture Code and I think every educator would benefit from some of the secrets of highly successful groups. Classroom and school cultures have a huge impact on success. #utedchat
A1: I need new cell phones for App building & VR. My donated set wonāt hold a charge. Iād like a Chromebook charging station a well. More tables. #utedchat
Q2: This is a tough one...so many good ones! Since we just talked about technology, I would say āEvery Child, Every Dayā by Mark Edwards. #utedchat
Sorry Late to the #utedchat Party. Just got back from a quick trip to SLC to get my Mac fixed.. Kathy Durham West Wendover High School 11th and 12th grade history and government
A2: One-to-one Chromebooks for sure...I don't know how I did it before I had them. Well, I do know how I did it, but it just wasn't as awesome....#utedchat
I have been reading Voice Lessons for parents by wendy mogel. She is a child psychologist and very entertaining. Even though the book is geared toward parents I have found so many helpful ideas to improve communication with my students. #UTedChat
A3: WINDOWS! Large enough space to create areas in the classroom, including a quiet corner. I'm a believer in flexible seating/spaces keeping traditional seating options. #utedchat
I love my classroom. It is really big. It just becomes small when you get lots of little people in there! It doesn't feel so big anymore. So fewer students would be my wish!
#utedchat
A3: I would definitely have more space and I think I'd like to try tables instead of desks. I know that would take a lot of change in other areas, but I like the concept of more flexibility. Also, so many more books in my library! I'd also like more room for my students to move
A2 My daughter is bugging me to say this, so here goes: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and The Fault in our Stars and Where the Sidewalk ends. Note: These are not PD/PL books, just really great books according to an 8th grader who should get her own Twitter account. #utedchat
A3: I would just like more space in general. Room to move, space for getting comfortable with a good book, areas for group work separate from their desks so they arenāt stuck in one spot for hours at a time. #utedchat
A3: everything on wheels; tables that create different configurations; floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with books; writable surfaces (tables and walls); LEGO walls; plenty of space to display student work.#utedchat
Coming a little late to the party. Good evening Q3: I would love some learning spaces, some for group discussion, some for independent work, some for teacher help/instruction. The problem I see is that to have those spaces I need less than 20 Ss per class #utedchat
I wish I had electrical outlets in more floors. We are really lucky and all of our students have chromebooks. āI wish they would charge them as faithfully as they charged their phones!#UTedChat
A3: Iād want lots of natural light...oh how I wish I had windows! And comfortable seating options around the room. Iād want lots of storage space. And wall space to celebrate student achievements! #utedchat
#utedchat A3. More space, higher ceilings, more comfortable chairs/tables or desks, hidden and more organized wires for the projector and other technology.
A3: I might even find cubbies or hooks for back packs so kids who insist on brining them (all of them) would have a place to put them besides on the floor #utedchat
A3 According to my daughter, a couch is a necessity. Then, I reflected to the last #edcamput and noticed that I gravitated to the couch too! Must be a true necessity! #utedchat More natural light with a projector that is bright enough to be seen without the lights being dimmed.
A3 I would love taller ceilings and a swamp cooler I didnāt have to yell over to lecture. Iād like a classroom designed to teach 21st century skills. #UTedChat
A3: FLEXIBLE SEATING. I didnāt realize how much I used movement and space until I moved classrooms where that isnāt an option anymore. I miss it, badly #UTedChat
I tried to do this anyway, but I always wanted more time writing for fun. Iād also want fewer standards so that I can go deeper and move the stress level down a little for all of us with time to succeed and extend. #utedchat
A4: I think the first thing I'd change would be to have more authentic learning projects tied into the core instead of segregated units. I still feel new to my core and not sure what real life and authentic projects that can be shared with a real audience #utedchat
Our curriculum is good, But, Amen to abandoning the reading basal! There are great ways to teach reading with real books. I would like to get rid of all the extra meetings and interruptions that take up our teaching time. #utedchat
A4: My priority would actually be to abandon teaching curriculum in silos. Learning would be so much more authentic if we connected our content instead of teaching āsubjectsā in isolation. #utedchat
A4 Agreed. All the testing all the time is something we can do without. Let's take more time with quick formative assessments rather than stressful summative ones. Add in more tech. That was an easy answer. #utedchat
You know, thereās a bunch of stuff I want but I just make it up till I can afford it. Little by little year by year I add or upgrade. Iād like a Chromebook cart & a kitchen. #utedchat
A4: I'd either eliminate or greatly reduce the weight that is pulled by standardized testing to make room for more art, social studies, current events, and student-directed learning. The quality of education would skyrocket in my opinion :). #utedchat
Nana, I definitely agree. I understand it's important to assess student knowledge, but often I feel like the high stakes tests aren't authentic and my students don't really care about how they do on them. I also feel so unprepared as to what is on them. #utedchat
Hmmm I would throw out the requirement for the students to create a 5 year plan and add a unit on how to do taxes and budget because that's what the kids always say they wished they would've learned more about. #utedchat
I agree, itās the extras that arenāt actual curriculum but you are required to teach. 6th grade still has cursive books...not anywhere in the curriculum. #utedchat
I agree! Giving spelling words each week seem like a giant waste of time. Iād love to replace it with coding or something that can prepare our kids for working in the 21st century #utedchat
A5- I better fit bit type watch that will tell me my heart rate and sleep pattern and a phone that will take high quality pictures and videos! We like to take pictures in Kindergarten! #utedchat
A4: I have to agree with eliminating testing or at least modify it to match teaching/learning styles and differences. Make the testing authentic! #UTedChat
A5 I want one of those adapters that has a slot for every type of connection. https://t.co/VOzrFqF2IM
Iām sick of carrying around a million adapters. #utedchat
Most of the people you might recognize from #utedchat are in section 113, but there are only 3 of the $34 tickets left in that section, a bunch at $51 but I know that's tough. 12 $34 tickets left for our group in section 115. Everyone in the world is invited, Nevada included.
@pamturley55 If Santa is loaded I for sure want the phone projector gadget, and Iād love a full set up for a photo booth. I think it would be a blast!! #UTedChat
I have a Robotic vacuum like this. I love it, but not because itās speedy. I could vacuum myself many times faster. I love that it allows me to accomplish another task while it gets the vacuuming done!šš¼#utedchat
A6. Thatās hard. I donāt think I can. Some of my favorites tide ya through the years have been kids I was surprised by. I think that is one of the reasons teaching is so fun. #UTedChat
Participates, thinks before speaking, enjoys life-so they laugh, doesnāt give up st the first sign of struggles, kind to others, someone I would be ok to let my kid/kids to hang out with #utedchat
A6: ideal student ... well behaved, sense of humor, respectful, motivated, loves to learn and be challenged... and will bring a Diet Coke for teacher. #UTedChat
A6: ideal students would multicultural from a variety of backgrounds, tactful, gracious, gregarious, on grade reading level, funny, clever, creative, curious, problem-solvers, who like to learn.
I could do a lot with such a class. #utedchat
A6: One that is curious about the world and ready to investigate. One that doesn't give up easily or quickly and is excited to try new things. Motivated and engaged. I think though, as cheesy as it sounds, the biggest thing- the ones that need me the most. #utedchat
A6 I want a student who is present, meaning actively engaged in what weāre doing in class. Not thinking about their phone, friends, TV, etc. for the time we have together. Wouldnāt hurt if the kid is funny too. #toomuchtoask#utedchat
Thanks to @pamturley55 for getting us ready for the holidays with our wish lists this week. Next week #utedchat is excited to welcome @DaniKSloan back to our midst as she get us ready for #bowlmania.
A6 Relentlessly Engaged in a Good Cause! Of course I would add collaborator, Critical Thinker, Communicator, Creator...hmmm, sounds like the 4Cs. #utedchat
A6: The ideal students for me are the students exactly the way they are. The best part about kids is that each and every one of them are different and unique. I honestly wouldn't change a thing from the way they already are! #utedchat
