A1. OL DL. I enjoyed both but probably liked DL a little better. #swarmfbchat
  • CarsonRileyDad May 9 @ 9:15 PM EDT

Q2. Gettting the aggressive mentality out of kids. Love seeing 9, 10, 11 kids swarming the ball with great effort. #swarmfbchat
  • RoyCash66 May 9 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A2: I like that defense is reactionary and takes discipline. Anyone can do what a wristband says, only real football players #swarmfbchat
  • Coach__French May 9 @ 9:16 PM EDT
The kids effort and commitment directly correlates to their ability to be good on Defense. #swarmfbchat
  • CoachMHochard May 9 @ 9:16 PM EDT

  • The_Coach_A May 9 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A1: The technical piece. Every player must link together in order to make things work. Defense is reactionary. It has to sound. #SWARMFBCHAT

  • CoachAmara May 9 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A1) Everywhere in HS! RB, QB, WR, DB, even OLB. Considered myself a RB; I played whatever my team needed me to! DB in college. #swarmfbchat
  • The_Coach_A May 9 @ 9:19 PM EDT
Played CB & Saf in HS & college. I LOVE corner, but blocking kicks was the most fun. Had 13 over 4 yrs of college (9 FG/PATs). #SWARMFBCHAT

A2. LEARNING. Im pretty well versed offensively but coaching defense is challenging. Especially coaching a pos. i never played #swarmfbchat
  • CleatEliteAnfro May 9 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A2: DEF is where the dogs(DAWGS) are. Reaction, discipline aggression and attacking and DB's just have a different mentality. #SWARMFBCHAT
  • CoachCurran42 May 9 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A2: Love having my MENTALITY be contagious with the kids. Having 11 men fly around and cause chaos! #swarmfbchat
  • DrIronstein May 9 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A2) 2 things: the requisite intensity of defensive football, and the eternal chess match of responding to various offenses. #SWARMFBCHAT

A2 Scouting the opponent to pick up on tendencies in their offense. Seeking an advantage and relaying that info to the D #swarmfbchat
  • RoyCash66 May 9 @ 9:22 PM EDT
A2: I also like to see former players who come Back successful because they can handle adversity and pressure #swarmfbchat
  • The_Coach_A May 9 @ 9:22 PM EDT
I was that fast white kid. My problem... I was 5'10 155lbs white kid playing CB coming out of HS. God has a sense of humor. 😂 #SWARMFBCHAT

A2. Coaching OL and DL is cool. I feel like a double agent. I like teaching them moves to counteract what the OL wants to do #swarmfbchat
  • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Q3: What position do you think translates into the making of a good DC? DL/LB/DB...all of them? I have coached each one! #swarmfbchat

  • CoachSimard May 9 @ 9:24 PM EDT
    A2: Coaching D / DC, i loved the coaching the aggression, GET-AFTER-IT! (Do the same w/my OLine now- OLine w/attack attitude⚒️ #swarmfbchat
  • CarsonRileyDad May 9 @ 9:24 PM EDT
A2) I enjoy the scheming and the chess match against the OC. I also enjoying the teaching aspect introducing kids to our D #swarmfbchat
  • CoachMHochard May 9 @ 9:24 PM EDT
A3 no real answer. I think ILB - QB of the Defense; lots of cerebral guys play there. #SWARMFBCHAT
    • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Q3: What position do you think translates into the making of a good DC? DL/LB/DB...all of them? I have coached each one! #swarmfbchat
  • JRGrayson May 9 @ 9:24 PM EDT
A3: I think I'm biased because I've been coaching LB's for 8 years but you have to know the front and the back ends. #SWARMFBCHAT
    • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Q3: What position do you think translates into the making of a good DC? DL/LB/DB...all of them? I have coached each one! #swarmfbchat
  • CoachLucch May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A3: Coaching them all. Gain a true understanding of how it all fits together. The communication of FS & LB's is essential! #swarmfbchat
  • CoachByrd_ May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
Yeah what he said lol #swarmfbchat
    • The_Coach_A May 9 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A1: The technical piece. Every player must link together in order to make things work. Defense is reactionary. It has to sound. #SWARMFBCHAT
  • CoachWelden May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A3 I think any can, work ethic to gain knowledge is most important, have to know where you are weaker, and always grow as coach #Swarmfbchat
  • RoyCash66 May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A3: I don't know that this matters. Even as a DT coach, is still have to know what everyone else on the field is doing #swarmfbchat
  • MrHochmuth15 May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A1 Played wr/te in HS and college. Never played D but enjoy the opportunity to coach that side of the ball #swarmfbchat
  • Skillutt28 May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A3. I'd say either MLB or FS. Have to have vision & sense of what is coming at you in formations & backfields. #swarmfbchat
  • The_Coach_A May 9 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A3: I think secondary guys have a better understanding of how everything fits together, but you better hire a great DL guy! #SWARMFBCHAT
    • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Q3: What position do you think translates into the making of a good DC? DL/LB/DB...all of them? I have coached each one! #swarmfbchat
  • CarsonRileyDad May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3) Really a combo I would think but typically our S is our smartest player so I would lean towards that position slightly #swarmfbchat
  • freezysmalls May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: great Q and I think LB coaches are usually DCs. Corner/safety coaches are STC. #swarmfbchat
  • CoachHoneyman May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3) I think dbs or lbs. LBs you get more of mix with front and coverage #swarmfbchat
  • mrdurkinehs May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
The constant chess match that goes on. Doing what we do best to stop the opponent #SWARMFBCHAT
  • honeycutt_cody May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: I think Linebackers. You have to know the whole defense as a linebacker coach. Fronts and coverages. #swarmfbchat
    In reply to @rmacblue
  • CometBacker2011 May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3) MLB It is the extension of the Coach on the Field. Has to know Fronts and Coverage etc. Everyone Counts on him #swarmfbchat
  • RoyCash66 May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: I also have coached each position on defense. If any coach on a staff can't coach more than 1spot, why are they there? #swarmfbchat
  • DrIronstein May 9 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A3) Any position that requires a player to understand/survey the entire field & make calls to adjust to formations. #SWARMFBCHAT
    In reply to @rmacblue

A3: Any of them really. #swarmfbchat

    • RoyCash66 May 9 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: I also have coached each position on defense. If any coach on a staff can't coach more than 1spot, why are they there? #swarmfbchat
  • CoachDiG May 9 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: always thought if you can coach a guy 2 inches from ball you can coach most. Always good to understand box #swarmfbchat
    • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Q3: What position do you think translates into the making of a good DC? DL/LB/DB...all of them? I have coached each one! #swarmfbchat
  • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: I agree with you out there about maybe coaching all 3 is best; coaching inside/outside the box only makes it harder. #swarmfbchat
  • CoachByrd_ May 9 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: I don't think one position translate better but but LB is good because you naturally have to know both ends of defense #swarmfbchat
  • coach_remer May 9 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: I think LBs. Have to be aware of coverages as well as run fits. DL usually has the luxury of no pass coverage lol #SWARMFBCHAT
  • mrdurkinehs May 9 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A3: don't think there is solid answer. But secondary probably has the best understanding of all aspects. Safety specifically #SWARMFBCHAT
    • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Q3: What position do you think translates into the making of a good DC? DL/LB/DB...all of them? I have coached each one! #swarmfbchat
  • CoachAmara May 9 @ 9:29 PM EDT
All my yrs playing offense, I never considered myself the aggressor - coaching d gives me that, while deciphering an offense. #swarmfbchat
  • dmoe58 May 9 @ 9:29 PM EDT
A3: The LBz run the show for us, they are crucial for stopping that run game and DL are silent heroes holding up the "wall" #swarmfbchat
  • CleatEliteAnfro May 9 @ 9:29 PM EDT
A3: I would say any of them. But if I have to choose LB has more of an understanding of of the entire gap/coverage schematics. #SWARMFBCHAT
  • coachblawson May 9 @ 9:29 PM EDT
Brian Lawson- ILB- Jeff Davis High School- Hazlehurst, Ga #swarmfbchat
  • CoachSimard May 9 @ 9:30 PM EDT
A3: S - sees everything, has the thl/process/react. And in most systems plays all aspects - downhill. OLB-ovrhng, deep passpro #swarmfbchat
  • JRGrayson May 9 @ 9:30 PM EDT
A3 cont: all great D's had great MLB's. Extension of a coach. Butkus, nitschke, Urlacher, Lewis etc etc. the alpha position. #SWARMFBCHAT

  • coachblawson May 9 @ 9:31 PM EDT
A3) I played DL and I believe it is that position. Understanding blocking schemes and how to defeat those blocks is huge to me #swarmfbchat
  • coachjsam May 9 @ 9:31 PM EDT
A1: played safety. Love being physical and tackling #swarmfbchat
  • BenClubb32 May 9 @ 9:31 PM EDT

  • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:32 PM EDT
During my dad's tenure as HC, he had a DC from each position group! Just realized that. #swarmfbchat
  • BenClubb32 May 9 @ 9:32 PM EDT
A1: Played linebacker and fullback in HS. Found out that colleges don't recruit 5'9 190 LBs #swarmfbchat
  • coachjsam May 9 @ 9:33 PM EDT
A2: love teaching the physicality, fundamentals and concepts behind defense. Always love to see when the kid gets it #swarmfbchat

A2: The intensity, the teamwork, the mentality. Everyone must do their job in order to get a stop. #swarmfbchat
  • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:34 PM EDT
    I was so opposed to contact...not a great tackler; can't believe I became a DC. PLUS - I was a HORRID blocking back. #swarmfbchat
  • coachjsam May 9 @ 9:34 PM EDT
A3: LBs and safeties. Have to learn the fits as well as pass responsibilities #swarmfbchat
  • CoachPierskalla May 9 @ 9:35 PM EDT
A1: I played MLB in an old 4-4 in high school and played DL in college #swarmfbchat
  • CoachSimard May 9 @ 9:35 PM EDT
A3: got drafted into DC-ing my son's midget team 4yrs ago coming from Dline/LBs. CRASH COURSE in secondary! Mad Props for DCs! #swarmfbchat
  • CoachPierskalla May 9 @ 9:36 PM EDT
A2: what I love most is the controlled chaos that we get to create! I also love seeing kids take the scheme and make it their's #swarmfbchat
  • CoachCurran42 May 9 @ 9:36 PM EDT
I became a defensive coach by accident. Originally hired as a QB coach. #swarmfbchat
  • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:36 PM EDT
Q4: I assume, as we started coaching, we all had to coach both sides; what can you take from coaching O to help you on D? #swarmfbchat
  • BenClubb32 May 9 @ 9:37 PM EDT
A3: I'm a little biased, but I would say LB. All 3 are equally important! #swarmfbchat
    • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:23 PM EDT

A4) I still do both at small private school, but really helps having wing T O so we learn a lot about defeating gap schemes #swarmfbchat
  • CoachCurran42 May 9 @ 9:38 PM EDT
A4: Learning how to blur the reads of the QB's. #swarmfbchat
  • CoachLucch May 9 @ 9:38 PM EDT
A4: Best experience! Gives greater understanding of "why" offenses are doing what they are. Helps teach Defense greatly! #swarmfbchat

  • rmacblue - Moderator May 9 @ 9:38 PM EDT
A4: I think I take away the "why" to each play - how the OL moves/movement and use that to scheme the box on D #swarmfbchat
  • CarsonRileyDad May 9 @ 9:39 PM EDT
