Not a day goes by where I don't say "That's why I love elementary school." Capitalizing on these moments is why I teach! (Former 4th Grade teacher just dropping by to introduce Current 4th grade teacher extraordinaire @MrSwansClass to #4thChat )
A1: I teach for the kiddos. To see the growth that each of my S’s has over the course of 180 days. Even if I have inspired them only a little I feel like I have accomplished something great #4thchat
I love being able to leave my job everyday feeling as if I accomplished something and actually made an impact. There are many jobs in this world that DON'T give you that feeling. That's my "Why?" #4thchat
well next year I'm going to be the fly on the wall in a lot of classrooms. Did I ever mention here that I'll be an Innovative Learning Coach next year? #4thchat
"...Gives us a choice!" Too often we tell students what to do. So much resistance to a task can be mitigated by allowing students to choose the means in which they complete a task. Students are unique, so why shouldn't their assignments be? #4thchat
A3: this year my teacher taught me how to fix my problems and take responsibility for my actions. Also how to love my own growth and learning process #4thchat
A2: I love when my teacher pulls out the iPads! Which is almost every single day! #4thchat Creating things on the iPad help them share what they have learned with others! I heart technology!
A3: "How to show #Grit!" There are so many topics in the 4th grade curriculum that can be difficult. Being able to cope with these difficulties, and still persevere well help students in 4th grade and beyond! #4thchat
A3: that there IS more than one right answer and it IS okay to critique the reasoning of others with kindness & respect. We can ALL learn new ways of doing things! #4thchat
A4: I love it when I hear my teacher says, “I’m thinking of a number…” #4thchat That means a mystery number or a #gmttc24 is about to throw down for real!
A4: "Alright, time for Daily 5!" I use Daily 5 to give students a choice in their learning during our reading block. While I pull Guided Reading groups students can choose from 5 different activities. Choice matters in all aspects of education! #4thchat
A7: A shout out to my #4thchat PLN-each one of you! And to my friend across the hall at school who is my sidekick, partner, helper, listener, and so much more.
A5: "@cj_wentz!" Unrealistic, but true! Bringing influential members of your community into your room will be more impactful & memorable to the students than many planned lessons. The knowledge & values that can be imparted by a guest speaker will resonate with students! #4thchat
A7: Shout out to my co-moderator of #gmttc She’s got amazing ideas and ways to connect students to share the learning! Be sure to follow us on Twitter @globalmathtask for some cool new ways to share in the 18-19 school year! #4thchat
"Our seats!" Students always have a "grass is greener" mentality on their desk location. As a teacher, your seating chart is almost as important to the success of a lesson as your lesson plan. Knowing how to arrange your room/students is very impactful! #4thchat
Q7: I have to give a triple shout out to @MrsAMiller205, @Clarkcontrady and @103Owls! I was lucky enough to work with these women for 2 years before becoming a 4th grade teacher. Their passion and dedication to our profession has been so helpful to me. Thank you, ladies! #4thchat
A8: In 6th grade our teacher set up a mini golf course in our classroom. We could all have a chance to play, but only if we could correctly describe the angle created by the tee position, the cup, & his body. We all knew acute, obtuse, straight & right angles! #4thchat
A9: Be active! Volunteer to help in a variety of situations! You never know what experience you might come to love. You could make a connection that helps you get an interview. You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take! #4thchat
Every single day is different! There is nothing more rewarding then seeing a lightbulb go off in a child when they master a skill . Pure beauty . #4thchat
Thanks #4thchat Appreciate all the shares! Looking forward to more next week! Can you share out the blog or wiki that houses the info on this chat again? Have a wonderful evening!
