tweetdeck makes chats so much more manageable.
Q1:How do u prepare to gather content to write your lesson plans? Do u use district info, curriculum guide? https://t.co/cd4cZh2YhE
I use all of the above. When building my inquiries, I look at the state curriculum and build from my experience with the test.
A1: I read a goal/strand/lesson & think of a real life example that can be built or a video. Then I work my way backwards
Start with the curr guide, pull out big ideas, determine end assessment & big ideas, & map unit. Always plan by unit.
A1: As a teacher I used my district guidelines, state curriculum and text books. Then I worked to modify for my students needs.
I also search out what others are doing and try to make it my own. Have to be able to make it work for my classroom.
A1 Def start w/ curriculum, try to make it cross-curricular and then my go to resources depending on subject, focus on big idea
Well said and I love it!! Great advice. :) https://t.co/Y4XStlrZq4
Start with the curr guide, pull out big ideas, determine end assessment & big ideas, & map unit. Always plan by unit.
A1: I usually start with what interested me and the Ss, then I look at the curriculum to see how it fits in. Very student driven
Yes...as you uncover the needs of your students your plans will shift. https://t.co/mKuPR6jTCP
I also search out what others are doing and try to make it my own. Have to be able to make it work for my classroom.
always important to both keep the end in mind and make it relevant to the Ss. Without it, you will lose them.
A1 lessons will be adapted as needed, think of all learners in the class
I love the BIG idea focus. :) https://t.co/PZ2RVMdYSl
A1 Def start w/ curriculum, try to make it cross-curricular and then my go to resources depending on subject, focus on big idea
A1: I create base with the curriculum guide (content) and then add 2 or more things, collaboration activities & real-world examples.
and sometimes that is period to period!
When planning a whole unit, I revise earlier lessons often. You can't do that if you already taught them.
I love that you emphasized real world topics! WE need to keep ur students supported to be in touch! https://t.co/Nk9FDhBpXR
A1: I create base with the curriculum guide (content) and then add 2 or more things, collaboration activities & real-world examples.
It makes life easier, backward planning is also key https://t.co/km1T2ogkjZ
I love the BIG idea focus. :) https://t.co/PZ2RVMdYSl
A1 Def start w/ curriculum, try to make it cross-curricular and then my go to resources depending on subject, focus on big idea
A1: I also make sure that I lay out my content schedule for the sem. using a pacing guide that I can adjust based on understanding.
So many times my boys would say that they never discussed ANY real world events in HIGH school! Can you believe that?
A1 I use district guidelines, state guidelines, and then find activities that will relate to the students' interests&learning styles
You'll go out of business if your customers don't come back. Wld Ss choose 2b in your class? If not adjust. https://t.co/4dOZHXGWKh

A1: I create base with the curriculum guide (content) and then add 2 or more things, collaboration activities & real-world examples.
LOVE the pacing guide idea. There are SO many "fancy planners" out there, but wonder if they contain good guidance.
The more S-centered plan, the less need for changes. I used 2 modify lectures. Soc. Seminars - Never.
Well said. Great ideas!! https://t.co/1vOWsYdFus
A1 I use district guidelines, state guidelines, and then find activities that will relate to the students' interests&learning styles
A1 I determine the desired end result, then begin planning
agreed, if you ask the right type of questions, they are timeless.
Ok...all. Great things being shared. Let's jump to Q2 that you've seen in the image, but I will tweet it in 3,2,1
A1 Need to be flexible if you are doing inquiry based or play based learning, need to know your curriculum very well
A2 My Lesson Plans page https://t.co/ZoIrINfLKu “He who fails to plan, plans to fail” Collaborate on lesson plans with colleagues.
A2: I always worked with my grade level team first. As a new T I needed that support. Later would make changes to fit my style/ Ss.
A2: I work alone. We are 1 class of 12-13 per grade. I do consult those smarter than I when I'm stuck. Usually physics or algebra 1.
A2: I try to plan w/team members but it doesn't always happen. My plans are in drive & I share w/team members so we can collaborate
A2: I have found getting others 2 collab 2 be difficult. Have done in on a few occasions & <3 it. Wish I could get more vol. buy-in.
Love your honesty. AND that you allow for collaboration as you go. https://t.co/JerrFL04Zf

A little late, but oh well! I'm a pre-service teacher who begins student teaching in a week!! So excited :)
Such a great idea!! https://t.co/8NSdlpkril
A2: I try to plan w/team members but it doesn't always happen. My plans are in drive & I share w/team members so we can collaborate
And welcome to the chat! :)
thanks but I stole the idea from another T friend 😜
Oh no! That's tough. I REALLY believe that collaboration with others is key. Then we can refine alone. https://t.co/7vhkefUnWF
A2: I have found getting others 2 collab 2 be difficult. Have done in on a few occasions & <3 it. Wish I could get more vol. buy-in.
A2 tend 2 to do both, sometimes start on my own & then discuss w/ other Ts, sometimes done together w/the team, depends on time
Welcome! No worries! Great to have you here! https://t.co/Vzyfuczpc8
A little late, but oh well! I'm a pre-service teacher who begins student teaching in a week!! So excited :)
thanks, sorry I just jumped in! Hi everyone! 1st grade T from SoCal
At the hs level, I don't think it is emphasized as much as it should be. ie: no common planning time
A2 PLT time is so very vital. Even though we have so many diff. classes, it's important to plan together & share common practices.

yes...sometimes making time for collaboration can be a challenge. BUT we have to press on!
sorry I am a bit late for the chat. Just wanted to drop by and see whats going on!
it's hard to plan together b/c of schedules/life. You should try a shared Google slide.
a2. Find great planning happens in the hallways
A2 I've done both teams and alone, and I prefer teams. Other educators help me teach more effectively - I have so much to learn!
If its a priority, it will happen. Usually the outcome is better if you collaborate! https://t.co/49t8iIFHxl

Yay!! Stick with it! It will support you to be a better teacher. :) https://t.co/aGlbzysBae

OK all. Let's jump to Q3 since weve been talking about it a bit.
A2 my team plans a weekly outline together, but I'll plan most of the details alone, while asking them a million ?s along the way
ahh, thank you!!! I haven't done an in a while so it's great to be back in it with a bunch of educators
A2: I try to work with my team to incorporate cross curricular activities, and other grade level T's for new ideas/perspectives
Of course! All are welcome to our little chat. :) Experinece adds to the support! !
Got to run. Wish I could stay for more .
A3 Google docs! We are all on it all day and constantly updating and adding new things. It is amazing!
LOL! I love it! So true. Keep asking questions!!
A2: First year I would collaborate just to get a feel for everything. I think collaboration would make everything better as a whole
A2 I've been lucky to have a great group of friends in my undergrad: one class we all created and taught a 5 week 7th grade ELA unit
A3: I use Google Slides for my plans. It allows me to insert links for websites or videos. I can utilize around the slide for pics
A3: I love it!! It is so clear to me how I missed out on that years ago. lol :) https://t.co/njcpsUFSX5
A3 Google docs! We are all on it all day and constantly updating and adding new things. It is amazing!
I use google drive for EVERYTHING... especially lesson plans. I love the flexibility I have to modify from anywhere and collaborate
A3: I've used google docs and find it to be fantastic way to collaborate and quite simple to use! It allows for tons of diff input
A3 Our school will be using google docs this year to share documents, this allows us to add/change as needed, looking forward to it
Uuuuu...now that is an idea I really love. https://t.co/OdfUcmZ9vz
A3: I use Google Slides for my plans. It allows me to insert links for websites or videos. I can utilize around the slide for pics
A3 my life would probably be a giant mess if I didn't have Google Docs, Drive, etc. I live for collaborative cloud storage
Yes...so great to be able to have on-going convos in the doc! https://t.co/rRpkBJn69v
A3: I've used google docs and find it to be fantastic way to collaborate and quite simple to use! It allows for tons of diff input
I love that you can put links on it as well, links to videos, lessons, whatever you need!
I tried planning in docs and didn't love it. Slides was a game changer. You can also use the whole slide, no margin
A3: Ive put together a private FB group open to all TS as well to get a more global collaboration going. All are welcome to join
yes, I love that we can collaborate from different locations not just at school
this is a great idea! Sometimes I have issues w/Docs because they format weird but never had a problem w/Slides
A3: Anyone else use an app of any kind to plan lessons? Curious about new or well done apps that I may have missed.
Wow!! This is so cool!! Great idea and glad you shared it here!
A3 I use for just about everything moving forward. It makes collaboration so much easier. Assignment sharing, forms, etc.
It is also a great way to collaborate and give real time feedback to Ss. https://t.co/Py2MdXNSfi
Yes...so great to be able to have on-going convos in the doc! https://t.co/rRpkBJn69v

I like that idea, so many people use FB
Yes! The options are so powerful! https://t.co/zjC0E2Rxwn
A3 I use for just about everything moving forward. It makes collaboration so much easier. Assignment sharing, forms, etc.
I'm so excited to begin a new chapter of teaching. I know it may get tough but I have great support like this!!
I wanted to delete Office off my computer! I say at least twice a day "and that's why you need GAFE tools" https://t.co/Q8OFlyU2hm
A3 my life would probably be a giant mess if I didn't have Google Docs, Drive, etc. I live for collaborative cloud storage
Awe...so happy to see you share that! That is my dream for the community and hashtag. :)
I like to plan in the calendar on so the Ss can work at their own pace asynchronously. https://t.co/cF3LTXV2Dv
Uuuuu...now that is an idea I really love. https://t.co/OdfUcmZ9vz
A3: I use Google Slides for my plans. It allows me to insert links for websites or videos. I can utilize around the slide for pics
- Add "links" add in so easily with slides! 😊
thanks but got the idea from she's so smart
Ok! Consensus is Google for Lesson Planning! Let's jump on in to Q4!
I love that you shared this idea with me.
Just think of the number of ink cartridge and printer deaths we've saved by using Google Docs! LOL!
oh don't! I still like it! There are some formatting things I can't do in drive. It serves a purpose.
Ha!! So true!! https://t.co/aRxbuUl9BI
Just think of the number of ink cartridge and printer deaths we've saved by using Google Docs! LOL!
A4: I ask them. has to be sought out and then honored. If its about them and for them, it needs to include them.
A4: This is bit of a struggle for my Pre-service at the beginning. Writing objectives can be tricky...
- My pleasure! We keep finding more to ❤️each year. Nested video links in last year.
Another awesome place 2collaborate and plan are ! If you haven't been to one, you NEED to! https://t.co/eXBwu7qG3J has list
A4: What do we want our students to know and be able to do, right? Design the lesson to fit their needs!
A4 Need to make sure all learners included in your plans: ESL, ISSP, Spec Ed, different learning styles, etc.
A4 The problem is that they don't. We have to make sure we're asking our Ss what they're goals are and plan to achieve them.
And then what do we do if they can't? Or, what do we do when they get it? Imprtnt 3rd& 4th step in planning. https://t.co/RXrJFUXnIz
A4: What do we want our students to know and be able to do, right? Design the lesson to fit their needs!
A4 this is something I still struggle with...I've learned a lot in undergrad, but I knkw could still better meet needs w/objectives
A4 Tasks should allow different entry points for all learners, they need to be challenged but also successful in their learning
Q4: formative assessments w/ Google Forms allow me to break down data and provide targeted/individualized learning activities
A4 get to know your students, make it relatable, engaging, and appropriate, differentiate for learning styles
I try to overcome this by asking other more experienced educators...so, do any of you have tips for a student teacher 😊
A4: My good friend is always reminding me "DOK, Lisa!". SO important to see this as we plan. https://t.co/ox4Dk9GfdJ
We are always here! Hi Jazmyne and have a GREAT year!
A4: Look back at the previous year(s) and find ways you can improve the lesson this time around. I will never stop developing it.
I still struggle w/this and I've been teaching for 18yrs.
Yes..I get it. You can always ask for resources to support you on the hahstag. :)
thank you Laura!! Twitter has been great for meeting other educators and getting fresh ideas
Yes! Differentiation. SO needed on a daily basis. BUT can be hard to do. https://t.co/NclN318zRm
A4 get to know your students, make it relatable, engaging, and appropriate, differentiate for learning styles
I love that graphic! Thanks for sharing
A3 as a great Google Docs add on. Super easy to add in resources and more
It's my goal to improve on differentiation, it's definitely a challenge
Hey Missy! Great to see you here!! Hope you are getting excited for your new journey!
Frmtive assessments &Forms provide so much valuable data, but u have 2 use it https://t.co/3B8vi49Cpt
Q4: formative assessments w/ Google Forms allow me to break down data and provide targeted/individualized learning activities
Ok all! One more important Q coming up!!
It's also great for sharing our Ss work so they have an authentic audience. Makes a difference! https://t.co/ccwWcCHUKU
thank you Laura!! Twitter has been great for meeting other educators and getting fresh ideas
A5: THIS is a deal breaker!! Many a teacher falters here.Need to be sure we're taking steps 2 asses along the way, not just the end!
A4 each year always tweak objectives based on your student pop. I always consider sped as primary then Work up
Formative assessments (digital or not). Imprtnt thing to remember is that data must be instructive, otherwise it's a waste of time.
A5 I often like to use exit tweets using class account
