Good morning friends! David MS Principal from VA. How are we this fine Tuesday AM?

I stayed up with bourbon.
Good morning all - rainy here in NY. Marifran, hs librarian

Good Morning, ! I'm Brenda from Massachusetts listening to rain on this Tuesday morning!
Good morning post-debate. And, there WAS crying in baseball last. Emotional tribute to Marlins pitcher at Marlins/Mets game.
Maybe we can talk about how we're going to address the debates today?
me neither, I was scrolling down to see if I find it
Hard to choose - personal mental health or responsible awareness... https://t.co/I9U2UdeynM
The American political system is something that has me scratching my head and I'm really wanting to understand better.
youre gonna hurt your head trying !!
Same. Maybe we should ask how we're handling the sensitive topic of the election in our classrooms.
Ugh! Indoor recess just ugh
Sounds good.. https://t.co/IQKGJN1jMy
Same. Maybe we should ask how we're handling the sensitive topic of the election in our classrooms.
Good morning ! Happy Tues
Good morning from MI! Turned off the debates within minutes.
Good morning friends! Debate and kept me up late last night! Chat was much better than the debate!
That was so sad. So sad. I thought about the kids we teach & the fragility of life
I think its important to ask more questions than make statements when talking the election with kids.
tru dat extra coffee today https://t.co/FyPzWtlvJ0
Good morning. I stayed up to watch the debate last night. today is going to be rough.
Great thought: perhaps too complicated for 140 characters ===> how do we handle the election in schools?
I don't even know if I will bring it up in grade 3 yet.
I fell asleep late and woke up early. Was on a GHO discussing Nerd Camp with some awesome NJ folks.
Hola . Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina. I'm jumping in late. What's the topic?
I agree! As w/ most issues, I always provide my Ss w/ questions to think about. https://t.co/8garpAx8k5
I think its important to ask more questions than make statements when talking the election with kids.
yea classy https://t.co/lSDMJe8bmb
Good morning post-debate. And, there WAS crying in baseball last. Emotional tribute to Marlins pitcher at Marlins/Mets game.
Its the same when talking about the police shootings. I have very strong opinions so I need to step back.
Agreed. My son asked who I was voting for. I spun it-asked who he'd vote for. Asked about policy issues.
Good moning Debate talk? It's going to be an interesting day at school. Here's CNN's fact check page https://t.co/OBCuzEjdKx
I certainly did and it was absolutely brilliant.
check out the https://t.co/80blpCvROX . Our S signed the speak up for civility pledge. We should have good conversations today.
I agree...especially as a Canadian observer.
It might be fun to take the transcript of the debates and create found poetry from it.
Asking questions rather than providing answers??
Provoking thought rather than partisanship?
lots of opportunities during this season also
My 12 yr old had a civics assignment to watch 15-20 min and answer a few Qs. Good intro to politics for her
Agree. Also ask "Devil's Advocate" ?'s. Ss need to realize that rational ppl exist on both sides.
Such a great tribute from the Marlins and a very classy Mets team!
Would love to do a word cloud. Wonder what the big words were.
Those would be really interesting poems for sure
I guess I was lucky--I listened to it on local public radio--no distraction by the visuals. Thanks and !
We don't know LOL! So talking how to use presidential debate to
Join and me in at 8pm ET tonight - Start your year off right and stay on the right track!

missed it. Do you have a link?
Not always easy to step back. My views sometimes surround me like an aura...trying... https://t.co/2xGHIp1ocN
Its the same when talking about the police shootings. I have very strong opinions so I need to step back.
Is an issue I debate about with myself in Social Studies .Ss need our voice but show both sides
Instant Relevance ConXion: I"m doing a workshop on Voting Methods. In which would Trump win, which Clinton? Diff rules = diff Pres
the crying in baseball & the unity circle in football, there was more to learn from sports than politics last night
I know, adorable, right? https://t.co/BORAHVrKgb
Asking questions rather than providing answers??
Provoking thought rather than partisanship?
Maybe start with mindful decisions that affect more than just themselves https://t.co/s3epv0qyZL
I don't even know if I will bring it up in grade 3 yet.
I imagine that must be hard.
What an interesting idea!
My wife and I made our teens watch at least the first 15. My daughter lasted entire debate.
I'm up! Sipping on Pumpkin Coffee! Looking forward to an amazing day in classrooms at !
Oh but like 1960's the visuals said a lot about the 2 candidates
I teach 6 year olds in Canada. Unlikely that the debate will be a topic in our world.
Good morning from CT! Rain here too. Did not watch the debate, but up since 2:30; many stations were replaying it.
Wow.subversive. I like it. https://t.co/Hzrrt1ObYK
It might be fun to take the transcript of the debates and create found poetry from it.
we create tweets from different perspectives= = of debate audience, candididate, tech crew, limo driver etc.
Its a microcosm of the black experience in general.
yes in my class also. We watched debates & ads from past elections, will now compare & contrast
Thanks for that. In the process of collecting election resources for my Ts.
Personally, I do not want to discuss the election with my ; so much negativity with these candidates
Why didn't I think of that?
Where did you find that? In the book?
Wouldn't even know where to begin with elementary kids. We will talk about the election, but not the debates.
Do a Blackout Poetry Assignment! Leave candidate's major message visible!
Good morning! We should talk about the unity circle at last nights football game. I think that is a lesson worth teaching
I found Ss want &need our opinions, but we need to temper it with showing them all sides( even when we disagree)
A pause in the middle of pennant race to reflect on what is truly more important. The preciousness of life
I have that sense, too! 😊
My school is divided pretty much down the line I think. We are 53% military which traditionally votes a certain way.
so true https://t.co/vH7Zn2vRc2
A pause in the middle of pennant race to reflect on what is truly more important. The preciousness of life
Hey ! Great idea for using the debate in ELA! https://t.co/Un3HH6RU7M
It might be fun to take the transcript of the debates and create found poetry from it.
will you this topic? So many good ideas!! My head is exploding. Talk about Instant Relevance
Have a great day, Friends! I slept but still need another cup of caffeine.
have some good ones let me know if you need anything
I answer ? w/?, remind Ss 2 use "I" & be respectful. Many MS Ss will be echoing Ps
My hope is yesterday's debates sparks some authentic connection on many subject areas today. How can the event apply to your class?
It's certainly a polarizing election!
Another great idea! https://t.co/5SkLGkFDGy
we create tweets from different perspectives= = of debate audience, candididate, tech crew, limo driver etc.
Likely not a topic for most of my 8 year olds in Virginia either.
Had a T ask about how to incorporate tech for easy elm mock vote. I suggested & maybe even & export.
make room for many of us !!!
ok folks. I need a long shower. then more coffee.
Agree. TV news creates political competing monsters. We need to de-myth that for civility's sake
Felt the same way. But I think the topics of the debates and not the candidates could spark interesting conversations.
Obviously Ss have their opinions. It's a great way to play Switzerland, stay neutral and allow creation & interpretation.
Unfortunately, it's not just an American election - it will affect the world. I can't vote, but I'm nervous
GM Kenneth high school admin from VA here...it's been a while!
I teach 5 and 6 year olds as well, here in Ontario. I don't anticipate debate discussion in my class.
Have a great day -- time for me to go change up the lesson plan for AP Lit today!

true, unfortunately, we have over 60 years of it to undo ! https://t.co/08aGgbcfLj
Agree. TV news creates political competing monsters. We need to de-myth that for civility's sake
Start with the policies and ideas and leave the ppl out. I did that with my fourth grader.
Mock debate would be fun with or stream view! Have class prepare questions and have a moderator.
True, but I think we are both up to the challenge.
Do hope Ss watched / listened to at least part - heard too much "why does it matter? I cant vote" from my HSers ystrday
Yes, this is why I feel so strongly about it and cannot understand some of what is happening in this country https://t.co/I93fxZuc1W
Unfortunately, it's not just an American election - it will affect the world. I can't vote, but I'm nervous
True signs of compassion, understanding, love & respect...politicians could learn from such experiences.

Extra coffee, a few more minutes on the yoga mat, and it's "go" time. Have a great at day friends!
Yes. This was discussed in a SS mtg the other day. It's why I don't tell my kids how I vote.
it made the debate more fun to watch.
Me too, hence I'm running late and missed https://t.co/BZRa5OrACu

the election would be entirely different if those running believed in demonstrating those qualities
Good morning 🤗 I wasn't able to find the question but I see lots of talk about the debate last night. Quite something!
Loving all of the ideas shared this morning. Thanks for taking the leap with me!
Nice gif. Have a great day yourself.
Being a history teacher I cannot resist the opportunity for relevant learning & teachable moments this election brings forth
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas ! First on to-do list today: update election resources for colleagues. Have a super Tuesday!

Good moning Debate talk? It's going to be an interesting day at school. Here's CNN's fact check page https://t.co/OBCuzEjdKx
consider it done But don't jump into Explain mode too fast. Guide a safe convo for Ss & investigate claims together
Glad you could join us! Happy Tuesday!
Not sure if I would focus on that with my Ss 😳
Having math kids do fact check research then cross reference results here too
If done skillfully creative Ts can incorporate many skills n2 lessons & engage Ss in meaningful learning around the topic
anything is possible i.e. Howard Stern, Rosie O'Donnell, etc. I guess education is later
Me too, and then stayed up later for the and the 😴💤
Me too. Helps that I live in Brazil. Easier to talk about other things.
HSs also echo Ps no matter how much I ask them ?s to challenge thinking (both sides).
Studying immigration at moment, topic not discussed last night! So, 1st Q for Ss today is why? Hope it's example of Q leading to Qs!
Have a great day! To those who are tired this morning...hang in there! 😊
Well everyone, have a great day! Hope my credit card works today. Stupid bank blocked my card. 😡 Makes getting an Uber difficult.

Ok how are you going to talk about the debate last night with Ss?
Very carefully and objectively. I have many immigrant Ss whose fear of deportation is huge.
Good morning, Keisha from FL joining the chat.
so vital they learn the stance of the candidates

Good Morning friends. So how are you going to ta;k about the debate in class today ?
As segue to "12 Angry Men," Ss will think & write about essential Q: How just is our world? I'll invite to reference debaters' POVs
Asking students what they feel is the most important topic of the debate will give a great feel for where their priorities are.
I recall Socratic seminar T who advocated replacing 'feel' w/'think' in Qs like this. Latter=debatable. What'd you think?
Great non-example of respectful dialogue. One interrupted the other more than 20 times. https://t.co/BuBrHqDiga
My hope is yesterday's debates sparks some authentic connection on many subject areas today. How can the event apply to your class?
Yes, we are going to watch the debate in class today! We have been preparing about the job of the president and the different issues
Thanks all enjoy the day See You tomorrow
