Welcome all the #flipclass introduce yourself, area of expertise, years flipping, and how many days you get off (to create awesome flip stuff) for spring break #flipclass#flipclasschat
I've created a hybrid "half flipped' all coursework in on Edmodo and all my lessons are on YouTube. I teach 9th-grade health, I'm so what nervous to go all in. #FlipClass#HealthEducator
Wisconsinite Dan joining in. I teach high school science. I have been flipping for 7+ years. I get 10 days off but I make all my stuff during prep time/after work. Taking vacation off. #flipclass#flipclasschat

I am jealous of @lanier_katiesue as she is on spring break (thus the opening question) but tonight I want to talk about the impact of #flipclass on each of you. 1st how has #flipclass changed your view of yourself professionally #flipclass
Followup: @DanKos3 after 7 years (a flipping eternity) how has it changed "Mr. Kos"?
Likewise @bamaguy1218 what flip did you take to the county office?
#flipclass#flipclasschat
A1 I have actually been thinking about this lately - honestly in the class I used to like being the supposed expert and holding my own at the front of the room (when Ss would listen) but I am bringing myself in line with the idea of a guide instead #flipclass
A1. As an initial educ8r I always believed in tradition. When I started flipping I didn’t know it was a thing (not on social media) but it represented a break from tradition, start my own path to what I believe and how I can benefit my Ss. #flipclass#flipclasschat

A1: Was the 1st in my district to #flipclass. Before, I was almost unknown outside my school. After a while, it was like the Red Sea parted, and I get all kinds of recognition. With #flipclasschat & Twitter, I have connections all over. Best of all, my Ss reaped the benefit.
I feel like this could be a whole chat in itself, but briefly, whether people are doing the video route or some other thing as the now-homework, it opens up class time for inquiry, Socratic seminars, project-based learning, mastery approaches, 1st-person role play... #flipclass

LOL this makes me laugh because @bamaguy1218 was one of the first people to greet me as I dipped my toe in the social media water. The big surprise is the supportive and community atmosphr I never knew I wanted. #flipclass thanks @bamaguy1218

#flipclass#flipclasschat I used https://t.co/6iVlW8ApMx to make vids. Ss watched vids for basic understanding. In class they practiced and applied what they had learned. I had more time to work with Ss since my info relay was on the videos.

Yes! This #flipclass chat has been VERY helpful for sustaining my passion for the model. Many thanks belong to those I’ve “met” here both back in 2013 and when I jumped back in here over the last year or so. #flipclasschat
#flipclasschat It's comforting to know that people like @matthew_t_moore have been on a similar #flipclass journey to better teaching. The flipped community has been very supportive.

#flipclasschat#flipclass There is also an in-class flip where Ss watch vids in class, usually in a rotation. While one group watches the vid, the other groups are doing an application or practice. Either way means more "doing" in class, which is kind of the whole point.

A home for #flipclass blogs would be nice. I give PD sometimes to those who are curious about flipping. Blogs at their digital fingertips would be quite handy to encourage those who may flip in the future.#flipclasschat

I’m actually trying to figure out what to blog about next...one nice thing about the old #flipblogs chat was the topic being provided for me :)! #flipclass

#flipclass#flipclasschat Also, make sure the videos aren't too long. There's always the chance of losing them if the vid drags on. Shoot for just a few minutes.

#flipclass One more year till graduation! How difficult will it be to facilitate a flipped classroom in a school that may have students with little assess to technology/consistent internet?
yes always include the # in the live chat...it is very weird at first and all of us have sat wondering why no one responded and didn't like us...until we realized the # was missing #flipclass
Yes, because to participate in the chat I just do a search for the hashtag, click the option to see the latest posts with it, and continually refresh. No hashtag = I don’t see it until later, if ever. #flipclass#flipclasschat
Best question of the night!!! obvious answer is harder than access enabled students but not impossible...be creative. @DanKos3 and @bamaguy1218 can probably speak to this as early flippers faced this a lot. #flipclass

Tradition- my thinking, Ss and parent response to what they know as “school,” and in some cases staff thinking. #FlipClass was almost unknown when I started. I was rocking the boat. Now it runs greats and kids prefer it. #flipclasschat
may try in-class flip where Ss watch video during class, use station rotation, etc. Lots of ideas and great you are willing to try this your first year! #flipclass
The nice thing is that if I click the button to tweet while the search is active, the hashtag gets added to my tweet composition window automagically...otherwise I tend to forget or misspell it :P #flipclass#flipclasschat
I use tweetdeck...an offshoot of twitter and you can monitor multiple threads and it refreshes nicely. I saw @bennettscience social media computer screen once and it scared me with all of the seeming chaos #flipclass

Having a and s so close makes my thumbs do flipclaas, flipclaaa, etc. And let’s not even get into the permutations of the longer tag... #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclass#flipclasschat Ss who couldn't watch the vid came to my room before homeroom. Also, the library had a thumb drive of all my videos. Ss who finish early in other classes went there. Those on late buses just went to computer in corner of room & watched at start of class

#flipclass#flipclasschat@weltyteaching is right. In-class flip is always an option. Whether the traditional flip or the in-class flip, Ss have more time for "doing" in class. That's the big benefit. It's not as much about the videos as it is what you can do in class w a flip
#FlipClass always include them. Communication is key to success. I actually made a flip class video for the parents to watch before open house or conferences. I also send an email explaining the method and why. Most are receptive. Show/tell them what your role is. #flipclasschat
Just lurking on #flipclass tonight. Spending the evening getting AP Bio test written. Last week of a quarter is so hectic. Enjoy reading the great advice tho
#flipclass#flipclasschat Me, too. Ss can be controlled better in quiet rows, but a controlling T is rarely the best teacher. "I sure loved sitting in class taking notes," said no student ever. They remember doing.
Do the students complain that you're not teaching while in a flipped class? A teacher at my school hears that. I haven't personally. #FlipClass#HealthEducator

If they are frustrated they might make the claim. I haven’t had it. Selling it on day 1 and with parents helps. I actually will show them the responses from former students on surveys. It’s more of shared responsibility than just you telling them what to know. #FlipClass
If you are well-planned and active as an educator the only time you will get that complaint is as an excuse for the S not participating in the active learning. Ss can see a T working their #flipclass off (see what I did there?)

I have had almost exclusively positive feedback from parents. I have a video about #Flipclass that I share with the parents to explain my rationale for using it.
#flipclass#flipclasschat A T that doesn't make their own videos may run into this. Finding a video online may be tempting, but Ss need to see their teacher as the expert.
Anyone who sees the engagement in your class when you start with application will know you're teaching.
