A2: Bare minimum. We NEED to compete, but we never want to lose focus on 11on11. Usually four 7on7 sessions. 2 vs. 1 opponent, slow paced and staff on the field with them; lot of coaching. 1 small tournament, 1 bigger tournament. #swarmfbchat
  • CoachHays13 Jan 2 @ 9:26 PM EST
A1: We are 3 days a week December and January, go to 4 days a week in Feb. Myself and 3 assistants there 90 min total. 45 in weight room 30 speed agility, and 15 core strength. #SwarmFBChat

A1) Winter Workouts are phase 1 of 4 or our off-season: 4 Days per week focused on hypertrophy and strength gain, with one day of plyometric and change of direction work. 2-1-2 split. Dec-Feb is about building “hurtin pounds”. #SwarmFBChat
  • rmacblue - Moderator Jan 2 @ 9:27 PM EST

  • Coach_ChrisMoss Jan 2 @ 9:27 PM EST

  • CoachHays13 Jan 2 @ 9:28 PM EST
A1B: I have a class, it in beginning stages, they are in there they just do the speed agility phase to get their team points. All others are after school and on teams with scoring system and rewards. #SwarmFBChat

  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:29 PM EST

A2: not really a fan of 7 on 7. As far as camp, we’re trying to get to 1 this summer. Majority of coaches were not put into place until last summer. Really pushing hard this offseason to make this happen. #swarmfbchat

  • CoachPierskalla Jan 2 @ 9:32 PM EST
A1: we lift three days a week with one day as a day at the dome for running and athlete-led passing stuff, in order to go to the dome we ask that you have at least 50% weekly weight room attendance, all lifting and dome stuff is, of course, optional #swarmfbchat
  • bobthomas_55 Jan 2 @ 9:33 PM EST

Will lift 3 to 4 days a week. The closer we get to spring ball the more often we will only lift three days. #swarmfbchat
  • Mr_Tanner23 Jan 2 @ 9:33 PM EST
A2- like to get in as much competition as possible (7on7, big man camps, etc), in order to compete with aau bball and baseball. I want us to attend a team camp this coming summer.. took 2 kids to FCA camp last year and it was amazing. #SwarmFBChat

A3 Cont: sorry more thoughts on lift a thon, a motivating factor for kids. Nobody wants to be embarrassed in front of a crowd. A good way to promote this is to Record, Rank, & Publish! Smart guy taught me that. #SwarmFBChat
  • endzonesystem Jan 2 @ 9:37 PM EST
Ran one at west franklin, our tech people developed a awesome results website... results went live immediately after lifter and were perfected on all the walls... Basehor-Linwood in Kansas runs a amazing competition... they raise tons of money #swarmfbchat

  • rebelzone77 Jan 2 @ 9:39 PM EST
We have a lift a thon each year. Get donations. Raise $50 get a t-shirt, $100 get a hoodie and t-shirt. Usually do well, and the kids love the swag.#SwarmFBChat

  • coachwatson12 Jan 2 @ 9:39 PM EST
Q1b We lift 7th the ones who don't ride bus will sometimes get a couple more sets but normally the pace allows us to get done #swarmfbchat
  • CoachGinn Jan 2 @ 9:40 PM EST
A4: occasionally just to provide depth or if we know a kid can play 1 spot and want to see if we can play him somewhere else to make us better #swarmfbchat
  • CoachHays13 Jan 2 @ 9:40 PM EST
Really wish we didn’t have to, but DB’s are typically DB’s and LB’s LB’s typically feel fine two deep, but our backup corner (usually a starter at receiver or RB) is a far better safety than our 3rd! #SwarmFBChat
  • Jacket5193 Jan 2 @ 9:40 PM EST
A3) We host a lift a thon 2 weeks before we start spring ball. Each player gets a sponsor to donate 5 cent a pound. We max on Bench, Squat, and Deadlift. We made around 3500 last year. #SwarmFBChat
  • SteelCrusaderTS Jan 2 @ 9:40 PM EST
A4. Corners and safeties learn both. Try to keep guys from banging at safety the whole game since most are 2 way players #swarmfbchat
  • kdawgswift Jan 2 @ 9:41 PM EST
A4: personnel determines this, but yes interchangeable parts are strongly desired! #swarmfbchat
  • Joebruneel Jan 2 @ 9:41 PM EST
A4: Oh heck yeah. Guys gotta be versatile and have to know multiple spots. Also forces you as a coach to stress to them learning the whole defensive concept rather than just say, what the Mike Backer does. #SwarmFBChat
    In reply to @rmacblue
  • CoachGinn Jan 2 @ 9:42 PM EST
A4: tough in our D to learn Safety, so tough for us to move a corner there, plus we like more physical kids at Safety & more coverage type guy at Corner. #swarmfbchat
  • JRGrayson Jan 2 @ 9:43 PM EST
A4: VERY important. Dealt with a lot of injuries this season. Having kids know multiple positions (within reason) allows you to keep close to your best 11 on the field (or close to it.) This was preached to me heavily by former boss. Told me it cost them a 💍 #SwarmFBChat
  • barnhill_jerrod Jan 2 @ 9:43 PM EST
3-4 7 on 7’s, 3-4 team camps. 7 on 7’s are great for getting in your concepts, also good for the D to get in their coverages and see different route concepts thrown at them. Get to work against a lot of 2 man under ha. Still a great way to compete! #swarmfbchat

A4: we invest our cross training into both sides of the ball( rbs to lbs, etc) if we need to move a player on defense, we try to use similar terms and ideas for their new position #swarmfbchat
  • Coach_Wild Jan 2 @ 9:43 PM EST
It depends on the kid and athlete. If hes phisically and more important smart enough to handle it then heck yes. #SwarmFBChat
    In reply to @rmacblue
  • SaltWilliams Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
A4: try to cross train as much as possible. Easier at LB level then in the secondary. Kids that can play CB and Safety are invaluable. #swarmfbchat
  • SteelCrusaderTS Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
A4. Inside and Outside LBs stay separate. Unless injuries force us to do different. Run a 3-4 defense #swarmfbchat
  • coachwatson12 Jan 2 @ 9:44 PM EST
Q2. Typically 2 or 3 7on 7's. Don't like more than one or two team camps and only if I have an inexperienced group. #swarmfbchat
  • Coach_JRogers Jan 2 @ 9:45 PM EST
A4) Lbs learn both positions. Most DBs learn both too. #swarmfbchat
  • bobthomas_55 Jan 2 @ 9:46 PM EST
A4: with our numbers this is a little difficult but we try to implement it week by week. #swarmfbchat
  • Coach_ChrisMoss Jan 2 @ 9:46 PM EST
A4: In a perfect world all my DBs could play FS and CB, but that's not always the case. Usually they will focus on one 1 position as Sophomores and grow to be able to play both by there Jr. or Sr. Season. #swarmfbchat
  • endzonesystem Jan 2 @ 9:47 PM EST
All LBs need to know all inside and out.. all secondary needs to be able play everything, even if in a game situation they won’t play it... More postitions a kid can play, more he knows about, what’s goin on around him #swarmfbchat
  • Jacket5193 Jan 2 @ 9:48 PM EST
A4) We play a 4-2-5 so our star position which is our hybrid SS/LB will split time with linebackers and safeties. I have our corners either field or boundary but they don’t play both. #swarmfbchat
  • Coach_ChrisMoss Jan 2 @ 9:48 PM EST
A4 cont: SS is a much different position for us so they usually don't work with the CBs and FS's as much. It's common for a kid to start off as FS or CB and grow into a SS/OLB type as they get older though. Typically some of our best players #swarmfbchat
  • coachwatson12 Jan 2 @ 9:48 PM EST
Q3. We will attend 2 practice weight meets before the State meet at Alma HS. This will be year two of our program and seeing > #swarmfbchat
  • endzonesystem Jan 2 @ 9:49 PM EST
Small school, I believe your best athlete or athletes should be able to play any position.. especially skills kids #swarmfbchat
    • endzonesystem Jan 2 @ 9:47 PM EST

  • coachwatson12 Jan 2 @ 9:54 PM EST
Q5: 8th & 9th lift 1st hr. 7th grade lifts 5th hr. Focus more on learning than weight with both groups. Weight will come! #swarmfbchat
  • Coach_Wild Jan 2 @ 9:54 PM EST
Q5) We can not have contact with the middle school players until they graduate 8th grade. They start lifting the day after. In the mean time, staff attends youth league games, I sit in during their lunch time once a month. #SwarmFBChat
    In reply to @rmacblue
  • JRGrayson Jan 2 @ 9:55 PM EST
A5: feeder programs are golden in this area. Catholics vs Publics make investing in your feeder programs paramount. If you don't, someone else is. Literally a war zone. Get those darn kids in your building EARLY and OFTEN and be at as many games as possible. #SwarmFBChat
  • Coach_JRogers Jan 2 @ 9:55 PM EST

Q5 Cont) We also hold 10 days of spring practice at the youth league field, the HS original game field. On day 9 we have free youth clinic n day 10 we have competitions n scrimmage. That we open up to the public. Allow the rising 9th graders onto the sidelines. #SwarmFBChat

A5) Our upcoming freshman or 8th graders lift twice a week doing the same program we do. It’s more total body & mainly teaching them the proper way to lift. We’re big on power cleaning so it takes a while for younger kids to pick it up. #swarmfbchat
