Hello #caschat Martin here from Devon - My daughters birthday is on the 29th November and she insists on having her cards up for at least a week before anything Christmas can even be considered!
It is not (or never?) too early or too late to put Christmas trees in or around the house, #caschat, but for me personally this chat just start a little late … In Belgium, the starting time is 21 uur, i.e. 9 pm … I'd love to join, but … this is not every Tuesday "realisable":)
A1) For #antibullyingweek I think it is important still to get the message across that cyber bullying is as bad as any other form of bullying. It can even be worse as it can follow you to a place you should feel safe ie home #caschat
When Sinterklaas has gone, the Christmas tree can come in Belgium. #caschat, #traditions in our country. Nico = me, used to teach Eng. and German; then Dutch at university level. Now teaching #infolit to college students and working in university college library in Belgium.
Bonjour #caschat Neil from sunny Aylesbury here. Tree goes up when I’m instructed to venture into the loft to get the decorations down.... Our street goes all out with the outdoors stuff, so will look forward to the large leccy bill after the festive frolics 🎄
Hi #caschat Peter, educational software publisher from Dorset. I'm a bit bah humbug about Christmas, until about the 26th, when i get into it (i'm a slow starter)

A1. Regularly visiting the topic with all years. Use upto date resources due to pace of change! I remember when MSN Messenger was the number one issue for cyber bullying. #caschat

Hi #caschat - I'm James. I work in the Travel Tech industry but once was a college lecturer and worked with Learning Platforms. I don't know where I would hang my Picea Nativitas.

Q1 lots of parent guidance. Essential in maintaining the home front. #CyberBullying#caschat#antibullyingweek2018
Discussing digital footprint in depth also important, with legality in mind as well.

A2 #caschat I define my work boundaries (like I don't work after a certain time), and I make sure i go running and to the gym once a week at the same time, so I don't have a choice

Really tricky especially if you have some self employed work, which it is hard to take a holiday from. I’ve learnt to switch off certain inboxes from my phone depending on the time of week, year, etc. #caschat
A2 #caschat@Showbie has to be a big one for me! So handy to be able to set up my classes & resource them all at the start of a half term and know there is little/no photocopying to do & that children all have access to what they need with help videos, files etc. #ShowbieChamps
#caschat 1st lesson for each of our classes every half term is an safety, next is a skills week , then we launch mini projects-physical computing focused where possible

A2 I try to follow a joint that keeps my mind off work. Usually that's playing games online, watching TV and putting my phone on charge away from me #caschat
#caschat A1: Students do not realise that Cyberbullying has the same effect as Bullying in person, they need to be told how it makes people feel and the consequences of it. Another vital point is to tell them how they can access suppory #AntiBullyingWeek
A2: I make sure I book in times of the week for hobbies and stick to it! I do pottery and bouldering every week so theres a nice mix of being creative and being active! #caschat

This is really hard to do ,I have struggled to engage parents even when we have linked with high school and social services to hold sessions before, during or after school #caschat

Other bits that generally seem to work are blocking times out in your calendar for certain tasks. For example, I know I need to give feedback on some assignment submission within two weeks, so I stick that time in the diary and get it all done in one go #caschat

This is also great for when you get bad days, when you feel you've achieved nothing. You can go back through and look at what you've achieved. #caschat
I’m also much better at switching off at weekends. If I do need to work at weekends, it is only for a specific project / task, rather than catching up with emails, admin tasks, etc #caschat
Online marking is something that was so great! I used Grademark from @Turnitin - it was awesome. I was the first lecturer in the college to use it. By the time I left the entire department was using it. No more losing pupil's work! #caschat
A1 Surveys, recording incidents on CPOMS to follow trends and incidents. Deal with the small incidents, use digital leaders to peer support. Love CEOP resources #caschat
#caschat A2: Never put your work email on your phone 😂 it is a bad idea, check your emails when you are at WORK ONLY. You do need time off so Plan your time effectively try and have a full day off a week or just half a day off on Saturday/Sunday.

A3 needs to be a carrot and stick approach to this. Computing needs more status in the curriculum and there needs to be support for teachers, particularly in primary #caschat
Onenote brigade here too. Transformational with any device with a pen too. I can digitally mark with my iPad in no time with the class review tools.
Apple hardware, MS software - works a treat for us. #caschat

A3 I'm finding that continually identifying the cross-curricular links and suggesting little projects to do with Science or History etc is making teachers more enthusiastic about Computing. #caschat
A3: I wish people would set realistic expectations of what you're going to do. Yes - there are people who code excellent games or a social network - but the reality is your not going to, and something tells me you wouldn't want to either. #caschat
A3: Now, this one I am introducing this year with the teardown and build of computers and installing specific operating systems etc, plus some 3-D printer building #caschat
Q2 ensure that your leadership team has a staff email policy that prevents work email at weekends etc. Show your team how to set out of hours email responses. #caschat
A3 For students, making it relevant to their interests plus games based learning and project based learning as well as the flexibility to let students lead and work with their own ideas! #caschat
#caschat A3 ss lots of real life application examples, harness their interests and draw them in. For teacher sometimes it's harder- help them over fear factor, set them on @codeorg#HourofCode, get them to flash their first LED which will also show them cross-curricular links
My sessions tend to be best attended when immediately after school drop off, especially when combined with free tea / coffee and child care for young siblings AKA Paw Patrol on an IWB in an adjacent room 🤪 #caschat
A3 many teachers are doing computing for the first time this year at my school. @BarefootComp unplugged activities have been a nice way in, leaving technology out of the way until confidence has increased. #caschat
Works the other way too. I did something with a class today to bring out the stereotypes of what they thought a computer scientist would look like. Then told them half the class were likely going to be programmers in some form one day. #caschat
@MicrosoftTeams and onenote are brilliant together makes everything easier. I plan my lessons in one note, put a link in my outlook calendar and student copy the page and fill in themselves for lesson. Also makes assessment quicker #caschat

A3 Making things more accessible & less obscure helps some, but we have to avoid the trap of dumbing down. Sometimes greater challenge makes for greate
Also @bebrasuk is great for logic challenge not just testing memory & prior learning = level playing field

Show it is more than only making video games. Creative projects, linked to pupils’ interests, appear extremely engaging, although they often need a high level of teacher confidence, esp when involving physical devices #caschat This was our most recent Crumble session.
A3 For pupils, set up 'fist pump' moments with simple activities to build enthusiasm and engagement. Get all staff doing #HourOfCode in December. #caschat
I recently did an assembly about this - Steve Jobs - engineer, Ada Lovelace - mathematician, Elon Musk - programmer, Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Super Mario) - artist, all made their names in of computing, but through very different routes. #caschat
A3 I’m not sure that it’s all about lack of appeal. The barriers I see are lack of confidence in equipment and staff self confidence in their own abilities. #caschat

A3 Planning effective use of technology to support others. Giving support through videos/adhoc training/CPD. Digital Leaders. Plotting computing through other subject plans. Linking #Computing with topic. Ensuring the tech is working properly/apps etc are deployed. #CASChat
#caschat Make both students and staff see the relevance of Computing in daily lives, or simply make it as fun as possible. Use Quizizz in lessons to get them engaged, use a variety of resources e.g. Microbits, Scratch, code combat and hour of code (They love the certificates).😃
I really think that in the next curriculum rewrite (yeah I know, don’t throw things at me!) that computing and STEM must go hand in hand, especially in Primary in order to address Q3 #caschat
A4) A good interview lesson is really a quick demo of what you can do rather than a "good" lesson normally. Lots of pace, give the children chance to shine, try to convey a simple idea. #caschat
Import a dataset from Excel and then start thinking of ways you want to illustrate the data. You need to think about what correlations you want to show and how metrics/dimensions can impact on each other. #caschat

Just in process of purchasing one with funds raised by asking parents what they would be willing to contribute towards it! Amazing response, so looking forward to experimenting soon... #caschat
Well don't tell my boss but am about to give them a trinus, but for general printing, you will need an enclosed one to be honest to get you over health and safety, the flashforge finder is a great one for primary schools as it does lots of materials #caschat
We have a 3d printer that I am trying to bring into the curriculum more You need to talk to the fantastic @5onyaHorton from @Ultimaker who has written amazing resources for Primary 3d printing and also to the wonderful @Activ8Thinking#caschat A4
I am old enough to have lived through 2 new curriculums, I hope the last one that I see is the one I’ve been waiting for! Digital Literacy, IoT Skills and STEAM (then the CS will come in to its own) #caschat
A4 I always start with a puzzle to get pupils thinking. Usually do lesson on data and get pupils to be bits, standing up and down to make bytes / numbers. #caschat
#caschat I'd also love to know about creating a makerspace when space is in short supply. How have people managed this? Is a 'pop-up' makerspace viable?
Q4. Keep it simple, make it interesting. Ensure success for all. My last one was a scratch lesson on gravity. We modelled angry birds. I gave them code and we explored the use of variables. I modelled gravity, they added wind. Worked for me 😀 #caschat
