We are beginning another school yr. In fact, some of you may have already started! To welcome the new academic school year, today's #resiliencechat topic is: "Something New"
A1 The discovery of possibly liking something you never knew you could - it's like trying to get a kiddo to try new food - they dont realize they like it till they give it shot #resiliencechat
A1 I decided to change oncologists and hospitals. If I hadn't done that, I might not be chatting now. Stage 4 breast cancer and still kicking. #resiliencechat
A1: Just one?! :) Gets you out of your comfort zone with a renewed confidence - even if it “fails.” So important to go in w right attitude that we learn and GROW from our mishaps! #resiliencechat
A1) You might just like it! I love trying new things.
To give you perspective, I’m often asked, “How long have you taught?”
My answer is always along these lines, “This is my fifth first year.”
#resiliencechat
Gee, just one thing? :) The pursuit of knowledge and growth are two of the greatest joys of life. For me, I always tell my students that not only should they be stronger musicians at the end of the year, but that I also should be a better educator. #resiliencechat
#resiliencechat Gotta keep fresh as a human being. If I don't remind myself what it means to be in new, sometimes scary territory....how can I truly relate to my Ss? They've never been here!
I've taught math for 20 years....but I've never taught THESE kids math before!
I'm bringing fresh fruit into the classroom every day. Ss LOVE it already! They're making good snack choices and keeping their energy levels up! (TY, dining hall..which let's me fill a bag every day!) #resiliencechat
I appreciate your perspective...Your Ss will be well served with this approach...Each year our students deserve our focus and attendtion to their needs. #resiliencechat

Your point is well taken! We are always teaching new students--excitement abounds in the wonder and awe of new learning--even if we have been teaching the same thing over 20 years! (Hi Adam!) #resiliencechat
A2) I went standards based grading last year. This year I want step up that game and assess students via individual conferences. They tell me where they think they are for each Learning Target, and I agree or disagree. Sets the path going forward on their terms. #resiliencechat
A2b: I am holding myself more accountable to being in classrooms more often by tracking the rooms visited. The tracking sheet is literally right by my office door! #resiliencechat
Couldn't agree with you more! I will talk more another time about how I am doing this in one school in CA by developing a sister school relationship with a school in Uganda! #resiliencechat
A2 A calmer better me. I want to be a better role model for my daughters, the amazing Kid O and the wonderful Kid Q. I intend to unlearn resentment. #resiliencechat
A3: I continue to immerse myself in professional books (as well as non-professional ones). IE. #DBCbooks have renewed me as an educator! #resiliencechat
#resiliencechat This may seem silly, but from time to time I'll wear wrist weights and/or a weight vest. Exercise without making special time for it. I can't keep gaining 15-20 lbs every year and then hoping to lose it in the summer!
A3) Don’t let it be another year of the same. Work toward new goals that make me feel good about the everyday, even when the everyday is routine. #ResilienceChat
A3 I think about my dear friend Richie ( who died July 2017) who used to say, "Love them more." I can do that, but I need to love myself more first. #resiliencechat
A3) Focused self-time to continue my work on being physcially fit. Always easy to get in shape during the summer and then the traditional slide down towards begins. NOT. THIS. YEAR! #resiliencechat
"...keeping and renewing my love of teaching. Giving these Ss the good experience with math they deserve and can use to become their best selves. Writing a book. Finding or creating the right learning community for me and my family going forward." #resiliencechat
A4) Providing opportunities for my Ss to go beyond the normal routine and expectations of my class to truly begin to explore their own muse. I would love to be able to identify and facilitate growth in ALL Ss that I encounter daily. #resiliencechat
A4) Our older daughter's starting high school and our younger one will need extra supports, so my aspirations for them are positive learning experiences that build their confidence and make every year just a little bit better than the last. #ResilienceChat
Before things end tonight, make sure to follow the folks here who've affirmed, challenged, and/or inspired you! Let's keep our world full of these good influences! #edpiper#resiliencechat
Good evening, everyone. I enjoyed the chat @saratruebridge . Thanks for being so welcoming to all of us Kansas educators! And thanks to @Willmdunn for leading the way to this wonderful chat. Blessings for a wonderful day tomorrow! #resiliencechat
A5 Being married to Mr. MIT is really daunting. He is so brilliant. Things come easy to him. His ideas are really profound, and I find it a challenge to comprehend what he has to say (write). He relies on me to edit his work. #resiliencechat
TBH, my biggest obstacle is worrying about rocking the boat....creating resentment or misunderstanding among my colleagues....and weighing the cost/benefits of that. I'm trying to inspire more innovation and risk-taking among my colleagues to help. #resiliencechat
A5 I don't just want to edit his stuff. I want to understand it on a deep level. I really wish we had someone else who could guide him in a way I cannot. #resiliencechat
A7: #Resiliencechat Making a few decisions about my priorities: Service to several professional organizations, or my personal writing, or speaking engagements. OR, #DOITALL! Feels good to have choices!
A3: finding the right balance between fidelity to what we do and change. #Educators thrive on routines so bringing new ideas, methods or frameworks can challenge others and impact our relationships w/Ts and Ss and our work. So, learning it takes Time #resiliencechat
