I am looking forward to a week without teenagers so that when I return in January I am ready to give them my best! #oklaed

A1: One of my favorite holiday traditions is picking different wrapping paper for each child's gifts and not using labels. They don't know until they start unwrapping which gifts are theirs.🎁 #oklaed
Editorial of the Week: “Even with last session’s historic increase in education dollars, we are woefully behind the region and have not kept pace with our increased student population.” @hicks4ok#oklaedhttps://t.co/FIJnIkoDuv
April Grace, Shawnee Supt. Enjoying some R and R!!! Being L A Z Y!! Had a great run this morning will pay for it tomorrow :)! #oklaed LOVE singing Christmas Carols! Can’t wait!
A1) Santa waffles on Christmas Eve, Dirty Santa that night with my extended family which almost always leads to a physical altercation of some sort. Visiting my mom’s grave on the 27th which is the day she died and then a wild and crazy NYE party with the kiddos on 31st. #oklaed

Ahh! Congrats. We had a lot of girls for a long time in my family and now we got a good mixture of both. Have to admit, girls are always more fun as babies than boys :). #oklaed
A2: My heavenly father and those close to me know what I have overcome this year… still a work in progress but certain I’m heading in the right direction #OklaEd
A1 part 2: #oklaed My favorite Christmas tradition used to be the family Christmas movie until @Coach_Mike_D chose No Country for Old Men. The girls rebelled! Then came the grand babies, and we haven't gotten back to it just yet!
A2:) 2018 was a doozie! My obvious high point was the birth of lil miss Sutton! Excited to start new traditions w her. Overall it was a tough yr! Sutton and T raises were some of the Highlights. Seeing Ss succeed - always a huge high pt. #oklaed
A2) The big high point is founding the Teaching and Leading Initiative to support school districts in developing novice teachers. With almost 3,000 emergency certs and almost 1/2 of our teaching force considered "novice," it is a moral imperative to support them #oklaed
A2: First publication in academic journal, taught my 1st college course, presented at 5 conferences across the country and spoke at @Harvard
Helped two students get into grad school.
#oklaed
A2) I guided a cross-curricular baseball unit in October, and I teamed up with the history department and had a unit on Route 66. We had a drive through of seven historic 66 spots in Clinton and every 8th grader went to the museum. #oklaed
A2 I attended my first NCTE in Houston by myself, read a TON of YA, overcame some adversity (and am working some still), published my first short story in an online magazine, and wrote the first chapter of a YA novel (which received an A in my #gradschool class). #OklaEd
#cpsreds 2018 high points #oklaed

Speaking of movies. For years, my husband and I would watch The Ref. I still cry laughing at some scenes. I think we will have to pull that out of storage this year. #OklaEd

A2) The elections were great! We substantially increased our number of 🍎s in office. Being invited by @joy4ok to participate in the @CCSSO family engagement consortium and the invite to the joint symposium @ Harvard by @okea and @NEA were both high points! #oklaed
A2 our kids have been very impressive this year twins are making a difference w young people in their careers & youngest made 3.6 GPA while being a college athlete #Proud#OklaEd
A2: District Teacher of the Year was a definite high point! Getting tables to replace my desks just happened. And seeing my family in Idaho over the summer was awesome - not to mention finally making it to Yellowstone!!! #oklaed
Ohh, that is sneaky and good! My siblings and I would make slits in parts of the gifts so we could try and figure out what we were getting. That so would have thrown us off. #OklaEd
A2 I also participated in our #oklaed walkout and recorded a video of "We're not gonna take it" that ended up on the CBS Evening news! https://t.co/a2XlUgkcQQ
A3: Repairing some bridges… Im not the best at handling tough situations.. with self care and many audiobooks later, I hope to repair some relationships strained from 2018 #oklaed
A3: I'm changing my research project again this spring- it'll be smaller in scope but more detailed with more focus on writing good sentences - learning from the students I have THIS YEAR. #oklaed
A2. Well improvement in education and Ts moving to congress is hands down one. I finished a book that comes out in april, was named NBCT at the beginning of this month and still love teaching all year long. #oklaed
“We have systemic and generational poverty in Oklahoma that's a result of low-wage jobs and underinvestment in public education. ... It's going to take significant long-term investment in our public schools. Enduring change happens one step at a time.” #oklaed

A3: With great power, comes great responsibility. I look forward to building on my listening skills and embracing my new role to bring about needed changes in #okleg#OklaEd
A3 I look forward to continuing my Master's degree, earning my #NBCT, and working on my book. I am hopeful that all of this will also benefit my students as I will be better equipped to lead them and facilitate their learning. #oklaed
A3: Being a better adjunct professor. Evaluations were great but always want to get students more engaged!
I also want to get my exposure and insight into the k-12 schools in my community. Anyone help me with this? #oklaED
A3: After thinking that my students were not meeting my expectations, I realize that I need to improve on informing my students of exactly what I expect from them. #oklaed
A3: Most of my greatest mistakes in 2018 were culinary in nature. I plan to cook 50% more, and 50% more healthy, with fewer injuries! #oklaed (My, my, that sounds like a hard one to keep!)
A3) I have been thrilled to have done a lot of work in 2018. Almost 100 leaders and 100 teachers in almost 6 months. We are in "execution" mode. I hope to do more thoughtful planning as we look at the future of TLI. #oklaed#newteachersmatter
A3) There are always so many things to build upon every single yr. both personally & professionally. I look fwd to improving my “downtime” game. New & improved fitness goals. Professionally, always looking to improve for Ss. We had a lot of + S stuff, grants, etc! #oklaed
A3) I won’t allow myself to be sucked into the negativity like I often did in 2018. I’ll also work harder on remembering my worth. Self worth has always been a struggle for me and it can often debilitate my determination. That’s changing in 2019. #oklaed
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
A3 I need to be more confident in myself and what I know both as a person and as an educator. I need to be a better advocate, and more intentional in my classroom. I have a lot of work to do. LOL! #oklaed
A4: I've committed to going to my classroom only one day this break. But I have been picking my family's brains on how to improve my research project... #oklaed

A4: I am intentionally trying to keep my responses in this #oklaed chat focused on family and personal things! Not so easy for me sometimes to unplug from work!
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
A4: Sorting, organizing, and cleaning out the garage to bring much needed order to @SpencerLenox chaos. 😘 Enjoying watching my littles be little and trying to limit my "to-do list tasks" to 2 or 3 a day. #oklaed
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
A4) Well .... I did none today :) - I am really really working on the DT - I do have some things to chip away at that will make getting back in the office better. Have bd communications to do. I am trying.... :) - read - read- play- play and PLAY!! #oklaed
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
A4: Last week, I didn’t do anything school related (1st week off). I did do some consulting work but relaxed and recovered from tooth implant surgery. Tomorrow I will start to pick up school but just a few hours a day. Still going to rest. #oklaed
A4: All the focus is on the family....eating, playing games, watching movies & sports.....work resumes next year. The time off has been earned and I plan on enjoying it. #oklaed
A4) I am not an educator but I know it’s hard to unplug from advocacy. I don’t know that I have ever fully unplugged since I began this. I need to try to figure out what it means to take care of me so I can do it sometime. #oklaed

My mother said being a grandmother was the best thing ever. Was a little hurt but understood once she explained more. Have fun with the grandchildren! #oklaed
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
A4) I am going to argue that we are working... on a break. But we are continuous students that will never quit on behalf of our students. We take care of ourselves by doing the learning, reflecting, and connecting that keeps us balanced. #oklaed
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
A5) Well od course!!! Because it’s me!! Lol! I will however take it slow! Won’t do it every day! There are always things to get done - it will make time back in the office a little smoother. #oklaed
A5) I am keeping score at a basketball game at the end of break. That’s really not work, though; I enjoy it. I’m pretty well caught up at school, so there’s no need to begin until we return. Besides, why should I work to get ahead? 😂 #oklaed
@da_alex72 So you can only imagine @SheDunno 's snub of that choice for the family Christmas movie. @SheDunno was pretty new in the family! @Coach_Mike_D still proclaims it has great literary value! #oklaed
You are by far the hardest working advocate I have ever met. I guess I won’t ask you to join me in possibly starting @ParentCamp’s in OKC metro area. #oklaed

A5: I am not planning to work, but I have to keep checking my email to see if I won the Extra Rewards of Honor! I haven't seen that email yet, but there they are - all the unopened ones!! #oklaed Maybe I'll just keep up with those, just a little bit!
A5: Not doing any work until the 27th. (Although I have been returning emails and messages. 😬) I want to model the behavior I hope for my kids to carry forward. The holiday break is about traditions, reflection, and goal-setting. #OklaEd
A6: YES! No matter what was originally planned, those plans change based on the current students. I thought I'd use the same project, but it's going to have to be tweaked quite a bit. #oklaed There's no time to do it during the school day.
A6) I don’t feel pressured. It is just necessary in my leadership role. I will purposefully unplug some and on some days. But realistically, I always have something I can be working on for our district. I am also writing a couple of courses for MACU Master’s program. #oklaed
A6: I think you do when you are really wanting do your best for students. I am at least not working the entire break. Learning to pace myself after 13 years of teaching. #OklaEd
A5) I will work over break. I know this is not a popular viewpoint but as a start-up organization, I know that we need to be scrappy. This means starting the processes for hiring teacher trainers starting in January #shamelessplug#wewillbehiring#oklaed
A6) I think most working adults feel that pressure no matter what the profession. It’s never a good feeling to kick off a new year behind in work. #oklaed
A6. I feel pressure from the “perfect” teachers online who never seem to need/take a break. I have to repeat to myself: social media is not real life. #oklaed
A6: I am very fortunate to have a boss who urges me to leave work at work - not just during holidays but all days! Thanks @grendelrick#oklaed No pressure to take it home, except self-imposed!
A2- I received some pretty big honors in 2018. All of which felt weird & unwarranted to me, but they gave me a bigger voice & I appreciate that for sure! #oklaed
A6. I feel pressure from the “perfect” teachers online who never seem to need/take a break. I have to repeat to myself: social media is not real life. #oklaed
Kind of putting the balance things on the back burner for right now. Just don’t think it is possible given my nature. Instead, I am trying to do anything for a few hours a day. #OklaEd
Q4: Educators are notorious for bringing their work home. How are you putting your educator role aside and taking care of YOU this holiday break? #oklaed
Q7: In years past, many teachers have had to get part time jobs to supplement their income. Since the pay raise, IYO, are more teachers able to enjoy their well deserved break? #oklaed
Q7: In years past, many teachers have had to get part time jobs to supplement their income. Since the pay raise, IYO, are more teachers able to enjoy their well deserved break? #oklaed
A7) I have heard of some doing some things they have not been able to do. Some are still working the same, some less. They have definitely been appreciative of the raises! #oklaed
Q7: In years past, many teachers have had to get part time jobs to supplement their income. Since the pay raise, IYO, are more teachers able to enjoy their well deserved break? #oklaed
A7: No. I've seen more teachers working retail this break than any in the past. I'm not, but that's because I refuse to give up more family time than I already am working on school stuff... #oklaed
Q7: In years past, many teachers have had to get part time jobs to supplement their income. Since the pay raise, IYO, are more teachers able to enjoy their well deserved break? #oklaed
A7- Honestly, no. I still know many Ts w/2nd & 3rd jobs. The raise was a GREAT 1st step, but the reality is that it wasn’t even a cost of living adjustment since the last one. #justbeinghonest#oklaed
#oklaed
A7: I am fortunate that I have an educational consulting business on the side. More flexible than a formal part-time job. However, I can’t give it up even w/pay raise. It is how my students have things they need as well as my family not going without. #OklaEd
Q7: In years past, many teachers have had to get part time jobs to supplement their income. Since the pay raise, IYO, are more teachers able to enjoy their well deserved break? #oklaed
A7: #oklaed My teacher friends who usually work 2nd jobs are still working 2nd jobs. Oklahoma teachers are still below a comfortable family salary. I'm grateful for moving closer, but there is still a gap to fill.
Q7: In years past, many teachers have had to get part time jobs to supplement their income. Since the pay raise, IYO, are more teachers able to enjoy their well deserved break? #oklaed
Q7: One of my "part time job" is being an NBCT. Another one is being a state trainer for NBCT Math candidates. Third is signing up for paid PD opportunities. Every little bit helps. #oklaed

A8- There is a fun light show in Norman off highway 9 at the Downs Family Farm. You park, turn the radio on, and enjoy!! My boys LOVED it and they donate to the regional food bank! #oklaed
A8: #oklaed should plan a First Day Hike for new year's day! It can be short or long, depending on your skills, but it's a great way to start the year with a healthy activity.
A8: I know it sounds strange but just walk around midtown in Oklahoma city. I have been hanging out there the last few months. It is so amazing. #OklaEd
A8: #oklaed I am so anxious to get back to The Gathering Place in Tulsa. We only saw one small corner of it on our first visit. I would also recommend my country music friends to visit the Stockyards in OKC for steak at Cattlemen's and an evening at the Rodeo Opry.
