#formativechat A1- any lesson needs to meet learners where they are at and either scaffold understanding or extend learning. Also, putting the learning back into the students hands through self paced activities will help ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn.
  • AndreaKeenan13 Jul 23 @ 7:37 PM EDT
#formativechat Q1- It's important to relate the concepts to the Ss every day lives. Give them the opt. to apply concepts.

A1: I think a good hook or set induction is where it all starts. If I don’t find a way to connect students to the learning then too much of what we do is just Ss jumping through hoops. #formativechat
  • yelena585 Jul 23 @ 7:37 PM EDT

  • MikeDOstilio Jul 23 @ 7:37 PM EDT
#formativechat A1 knowing your learning target for your lesson and helping students accomplish it and certify that they in fact learned it and know how to apply it is what I they is key for a lesson.
  • edtechease Jul 23 @ 7:37 PM EDT
A1: deciding the objective. Without this theblesson is just an activity. #formativechat
  • cclark421 Jul 23 @ 7:37 PM EDT
A1 I think starting with ss in mind is important. When we can connect what we have to teach to what ss want to learn they are more likely to be engaged. Content and standards are only the what, as ts we must connect the what to the how and most importantly the why #formativechat

  • LScumpieru Jul 23 @ 7:42 PM EDT

  • nathan_stevens Jul 23 @ 7:42 PM EDT

A3. By creating quizzes for peers/teachers. I found that students enjoy sharing what they have learned by preparing more questions on the topic, which often leads to more learning opportunities. Kahoot is perfect for this. #formativechat

Great point! Peer reflection is essential to self-reflection! It can teach Ss to ask themselves the right questions and critique accurately #formativechat

I often offer it as a choice. It is not for every Ss, but for some of my students, they just shined showing their understanding this way. #formativechat

A3: It starts with student choice, but I do make suggestions. One of my favorites that I am trying to masters is having students create memes. Usually as a reflection connected to a key concept. #formativechat

Mr. Steinmetz uses #goformative to help create a setting in which Ss feel comfortable sharing their thoughts to open-ended Qs! Genius! #formativechat
    • Blended_Math Jul 23 @ 7:53 PM EDT
I like to ask open ended questions using @goformative and then hide the names and project and discuss the answers to the class. This allows students to answer anonymously yet still get immediate feedback. I also use @Flipgrid to ask open ended questions as well. #formativechat
