Online communities/learning networks help 1000s of educators learn, reduce isolation and access knowledge... why not all of them?
What makes you think it will NEVER catch on? ?
I don't think that being a connected educator is a concept that has gained acceptance with a majority of educators.
The majority of educators think they don't have time to connect with others.
Connected Educator - Can be ? What are the steps; what is the process for change?
. I don't think teachers really understand the benefits of being connected. Don't see the value being worth the time

WHEN a teacher connects with another teacher about teaching the teaching of both teachers improves.
Connected educators CONNECT THE DOTS -- stakeholders, content, places, and more.

Election Poll closing soon - Share your vote!
Too many educators view connecting with others an infringement on their time.
If the reasons educators don't connect is TIME and/or VALUE... what will change their minds?
. I think administrators have to lead in being connected. IF they share what they learn Ts will follow.
I can't speak for them, but...Skepticism of the new for sake of newness. Lack of vision for tech that seems relevant.
. Teachers who are connected beyond school walls have to share that within those walls. Can't ignore the local
THOSE of us in education who are 'connected' are the minority... much work to do closing the deal on value of connectivity.
Okay... the digital revolution is now in its third decade... how much time do educators need?
Too many edus view connecting w/others as another thing they have to learn w/little time to do it & little benefit for the effort
tomwhitby: Too many educators view connecting with others an infringement on their time.
so is lack of connectedness a technology problem? Field of education problem? A personal problem?
TEACHERS will embrace technology when they are convinced that doing so will help them be a better T and their Ss better learners.
I CHOOSE TO CONNECT because i am committed to doing everything i can do to help all my students learn. Why do you connect?

Many educators believe that Twitter is a frivolous App and are not familiar with its function in education collaboration.
How do teachers who don't attend conferences (ISTE, TCEA, FETC) going to learn about being connected w/o examples in their school?
Educators have so much on their plates already, so they have very little time to connect with one another
Wading through irrelevant info can be a chore. Just look at some of the things tagged with the hashtag.

Well might there be a more fundamental systemic reason why educators don't connect?
. say there r no good options for MA kids. Then why has MA been No. 1 on NAEP 4 yrs?
That is why it is important to consider who to follow. "Garbage in creates garbage out". Chk Twitter profiles.
Perhaps it's time for a new educational model, one that effectively utilizes tech in teaching and learning?

. You get what you reward. Do Admins reward Ts who connect and bring in new ideas?
Teachers help students realize their ability to find a better way. …
For a teacher, GETTING connected is the first step, BEING connected the second step, LIVING and TEACHING connected is the journey.
Well I share educators concerns about the educational value of current technologies, most do waste time, etc
systemic reason? It's calledLACK OF LEADERSHIP.IF ADMIN isnt' connected tchrs won't be either .
I think it's more of their mindset. They see it as just another thing to do and just assume they dont have the time

time to stop using 'excuses' Ts need to live in the same world as Ss
Educators are reluctant to recognize social media Tech apps as professional tools for collaboration.
Should become part of JOB DESCRIPTION for tchrs?
. One has to prioritize. Chats like this have a better ratio of good stuff than random Twitter feeds.
Necessity drives everything. If professional growth is built into teaching culture, connections are critical.
... If fad is short-lived enthusiasm and without basis; a craze-- then perhaps they are correct to not connect.
I think we (educators) could use blogs more often. Better long form sharing, comments are helpful, good use of time

Teaching seems solo & can feel disconnected. Dynamic lifelong learners not drawn to a daily bell schedule routine.

Today's message 2 Ss: Want 2 take the difficult path. Expect more from yourself &don't be afraid 2 try. Connect more in person
sure but that's a subjective determination by you (me). Little consensus within the field of education about such value.

Why opt to limit collaboration to face to face within a building when there's a global connection at hand thru tech?
so Tom... what is the source of that 'reluctance' to view SM apps as prof tools for collaboration?
you mean there isn't consensus in education? 😂
