Are you concerned about our educational system only working well for some students and teachers. Read -> https://t.co/pm5M6O8uqp
-
A1 All behavior is communication. Misbehavior could be a result of unclear expectations, seeking attention, avoiding a task.
-
A1: Students misbehave because there is some type of need that is not being met.
-
A1. Misbehavior should be a signal to a teacher that student is crying out for help
-
Jamie from Mondovi. MS ss T!
-
- Thank you for joining us on this evening, we are happy you are here.
-
A1 Students misbehave due to unclear expectations, superficial relationships, attention seeking. https://t.co/kyWY7fT3Y9
-
-
Q1: Why do students misbehavior?
-
- Hi Jamie. I appreciate you joining us on
-
A1: Many times due to lack of engagement or connection to the task. https://t.co/XxmDgNfyHv
-
-
Q1: Why do students misbehavior?
-
A1 Lots of reasons for misbehaviors: Attention getting, lack of social skills, covering up difficulties, hard home life, boredom.
-
a1 their bored, material is not engaging, meaningful or relevant, they feel insignificant or like they don't belong
-
A1 To escape, because they can, to cover up some other issue -too hard to tell at the moment. Takes long time to process with them
-
well stated! How we communicate our expectations, and follow through has a big impact.
-
A1: could write a book on this! Sometimes it is a cover for insecurities. The class clown might not read so well
-
Students sometimes misbehave because of a lack of connectedness.
-
Q2: What behaviors cause the most significant disruption at the classroom level in your school?
-
-
-
A2 Refusal to make an effort then sitting and interrupting
-
A2 Interruptions that disrupt the learning environment for all. https://t.co/86DHAbmySu
-
-
Q2: What behaviors cause the most significant disruption at the classroom level in your school?
-
A2 For me it is Apathy and low motivation for engaging in the classroom
-
-
-
A2 Tardies is a major issue right now @ my school probably not your typical behavior issue but being in class is important to learn
-
A2: Attention seeking at MS level. Everyday is a social battle for some. Learning takes a back seat.
-
A2 This can lead to all sorts of physical acting out to cause distractions or to just plain shutting down
-
hey Marshall can't wait to touch base next week !
-
A2: I have been dealing with a lot of peer drama lately. Often it is a product of low social skills and a lack of listening.
-
A2 hardest 2 watch Ss that r severe BD but not yet qualify 4 assistance being in regular classroom 8hrs is 2 overwhelming
-
Q3: What supports are currently in place at your school for students who struggle with behavior?
-
Middle school peer drama is a great time to sit with students and teach social skills.
-
yay so excited we r planning little collaboration @ nitty gritty Friday night with & others
-
- Very true, but the hard part is that we are grossly out numbered.
-
A3. We have an alt learning center for student reflection or if chronic we will explore alt education program
-
-
A3 School counselor, relationship oriented staff, student support teams, special education when needed. https://t.co/EkYE2gku1J
-
-
Q3: What supports are currently in place at your school for students who struggle with behavior?
-
We may be outnumbered, but we can provide significant opportunities to learn.
-
Howdy from Barbara in TX. A3: We painted a conflict-resolution labyrinth to help Ss move through conflict. https://t.co/LZPRnMka7A
-
A3: We use PBIS based supports with students.
-
A3 Best supports in my school are teachers who go out of their way to create and review plans to support students.
-
A3: great pbis activities! Otherwise the admin and counselor deal with incidences and Ts are in need to know only.
-
a3 we just built a break room with swings puzzles trampoline some Ss just need 10 min, we also have child study team
-
A3 A-Team for attendance. PBIS starting CICO soon. PBIS has helped a lot in other areas.
-
A3 We started a mentor program with 20 of our HS students. They come to our elementary 1x/week to meet with their PAL.
-
A3 Also, building relationships is key. Staying calm can help, too.
-
The best supports are caring teachers, skilled counselors and admin that roll up their sleeves, dig in and do the work.
-
Another critical support is strong connections w/ families. If we are fighting against each other, it's really hard 2 help the kid.

Q3: What supports are currently in place at your school for students who struggle with behavior?
-
- Sometimes we just run out of day.
-
anyone is welcome to bring concerns team gives ideas sets up a plan, u check in later
-
A3b: We've also got a Sensory Room where high-anxiety kids can de-escalate, get mindful, focus & center. https://t.co/yuoH89Ar7y
-
A3 Working together with families is the most important way to change student behavior. https://t.co/RE1d96vjH6

I know what you mean, but there's always tomorrow.
-
Hey - sorry I'm late - Brett, middle school music/band
-
Q4: Let's get specific. Is suspension an effective "consequence" for student misbehavior?
-
- Thanks for joining us on
-
A4. Suspension is a punitive consequence that offers little in the way of actually correcting behavior through reflection
-
A5: What if that's their goal, to go home? We've been looking into restorative justice as a viable alternative.
-
A4: Consequences are only effective if they lead towards a change in behavior.
-
A4: Most often NO, esp for the student but sometimes it's not about that 1 student
-
A4: "you dislike my class enough to misbehave! Now you get to miss it!" Sounds strange. Being Devils Advo. https://t.co/J3Og49JKn7
-
-
Q4: Let's get specific. Is suspension an effective "consequence" for student misbehavior?
-
A4 Not a fan of OSS at all. ISS may be acceptable if there is an adult supervising Ss and working with Ss directly.
-
A4 - Always had trbl w/suspensions- I get it, esp. when Ss R @ risk, but 4 others, there must B better alt that keeps Ss @ school
-
A4.Restorative practices allow for reflection and repairing a relationship. Need to explore why misbehavior manifests in 1st place
-
A4 Each student reacts differently to consequences for behavior. For some it will work, for others, not. https://t.co/HXCaSGcOEv
-
-
Q4: Let's get specific. Is suspension an effective "consequence" for student misbehavior?
-
A4: sometimes a S needs to be gone for the other Ss sake.
-
A4 Suspension needs to be more than a time out. Let's offer help and guidance to the students.
-
I wonder if the period for this sentence should come after the word met Behavior could be a manifestation of home
-
A4: We still suspend far too often. In most cases, I would not argue that it is effective. Sometimes it is temporarily necessary.
-
a4 consequence has 2 b relevant, realistic & must fit the crime "apology of action"
-
agreed could be at home and Ts should be aware of what S's brings with them in classroom
-
We have begun to implement more restorative practices, but that can be very labor intensive (and perhaps it should be).
-
-
Would love to see this, great idea! https://t.co/NjaMitzh9w
-
-
a3 we just built a break room with swings puzzles trampoline some Ss just need 10 min, we also have child study team
-
I'll catch the feed later but I'm out for tonight! Thanks. Have a great week Ts!
-
A4: Don't know that suspension is always best for the student that is being suspended, but sometimes needed for the other students
-
Q5: Under what conditions is it appropriate to suspend a student from school? (out of school suspension)
-
Yes! I'm going to advocate for this at my school. Would love to know how you started & logistics for running smooth
-
absolutely social curriculum is as important as academic Ss come from diff backgrounds assume nothing
-
Violence and safety concerns definitely=OSS
-
A2. I think when the behavior is harmful to the point of threatening physically others
-
A5 OSS is acceptable to protect students and adults in the building
-
-
I will take a pic c and DM u later this week :-) very inexpensive
-
A5 I am not a fan of leaving kids under the influence in school. Should be sent home for the day
-
A5 Physical fights, threatening behaviors, possession of illegal substances. https://t.co/53bVDce9Ts
-
-
Q5: Under what conditions is it appropriate to suspend a student from school? (out of school suspension)
-
A5:(drugs/violence) are 2 most frequent for suspensions.Safety issues Really try other options 1st Sat school,In-School restriction
-
A5 - Drugs, weapons, physical harm, extreme disruptions, blatant disrespect. When a students behavior is out of control.
-
a5 I think if Ss was treat 2 himself or others even then apology of action is important the fix it plan 4 a new start
-
I've encouraged my Ts to use it, too. Soft lighting, soothing music, sensory toys, feelings books, what's not to like!
-
A5 Only if he/she is a danger to other students.
-
-
a5 I think if Ss was threat 2 himself or others even then apology of action is important the fix it plan 4 a new start
-
Q6: How is your school dealing with the rising tide of mental health issues that are impacting children and schools?
-
A6 Student support teams, school counselor, and working with families helps. Much more needs to be done. https://t.co/XiZmZ5JfXn
-
-
Q6: How is your school dealing with the rising tide of mental health issues that are impacting children and schools?
-
A6: This is a growing problem in schools right now. We are ill prepared to deal with these mental health challenges at the moment.
-
-
a6 we finally have school social worker in staff so nice she gets 2 work with families
-
A6. We are training staff in mental health first aid but needs far outweigh supports
-
We are in the process of training how best to deal with these mental health issues, but the kids are here now.
-
A6 Twice weekly meetings abt student concerns, working to make sure all Ss are connected w/a T
-
-
A6: Starting w/conversations about matching services w/ community needs. Long way to go here, but a start. https://t.co/1FW3umle8S

-
-
