Well said. Everyone we come in contact with leaves an imprint on us one way or another.
A3: We will all make mistakes - as children and as adults. The key is our next steps. Can we recover? Do we have bounce back?

A3: Teach using music, it makes it easier to remember
A3: I once asked my friend how she got so smart. She said, “It’s not that I’m smart it’s that I try very hard.”

A2) I channel all the admins who looked the other way, encouraged me, and told me I would be somebody one day.
A3: if you have a Q, then likely 75% of the rest of the Ss have that Q. ASK the QUESTION!! ... I respect questions! 😀
. I think I’m still learning that lesson as an adult
I'm thinking magic school bus Ms. Frizzle
Well said. Great to recognize individual differences!
a3) Everyone is different; that;s what makes us unique. Got it from a Chili's coaster, but it's true!
Yes! https://t.co/AkxoN4K3jq
A3: if you have a Q, then likely 75% of the rest of the Ss have that Q. ASK the QUESTION!! ... I respect questions! 😀
I think it looks different at different stages in our life. Growth mindset is big - we must teach this to our Ss
Thx for the chat! Morning will be here soon. Time for some zzzzz. Later all! 🌙
Well said. Failure is part of life. How you respond is important.
Great wisdom often comes over food
. totally. The small bits we carry from each of our past teachers , what they poured into us, we pour into others!
Great message! Activate multiple modalities.
https://t.co/xYtNfGIoBU
a3) Everyone is different; that;s what makes us unique. Got it from a Chili's coaster, but it's true!
A3 Put yourself in the other person's shoes. I have to do that being out of the classroom. You forget the day to day life of a T.
Yes! It's always about effort. https://t.co/4WHbkqnA4V
A3: I once asked my friend how she got so smart. She said, “It’s not that I’m smart it’s that I try very hard.”
This is well said Karly! A good reminder for us all! https://t.co/sf24sNoIrZ
A3 Put yourself in the other person's shoes. I have to do that being out of the classroom. You forget the day to day life of a T.
deepest learning can come from the craziest places
. So true! This is one aspect I’m most nervous about as I step out of the classroom fully.
. we all add spice and flavor.. Or else life (school, education, etc) would be just like medium tofu unprepared
A3) One day, you might find this information helpful. Mr. Tanner.
And if you're the one "falling behind" remember to be gentle w yourself. People learn differently https://t.co/WxIzhKlrzW
A3 Try to be patient. Listen. People all learn differently.
You mean that nobody would ever like it? I see...
If I could include family, my mom/dad/nana all taught me how to be a great educator. My gdad taught me tenacity as an educator.
It really is the most challenging. You forget, really. Just take a class for a day sometimes.
I was asked once if I would want to be a student in my class & the honest answer was no. Time for change! https://t.co/YagQbt1EjG
This is well said Karly! A good reminder for us all! https://t.co/sf24sNoIrZ
A3 Put yourself in the other person's shoes. I have to do that being out of the classroom. You forget the day to day life of a T.
Oh yes. Learned my fractions in the kitchen by learning recipes.
such a good question to ask
When we were young we wanted to be adults, now we want to be kids.
learning in action! love it!
a good starting point for conversation.
A3 Ask the right questions, don't give the answer. Getting there on their own creates buy in and follow through.
A3) Don't let the things you cannot do keep you from doing the things you can do. John Wooden.
recipes helped us do a fraction question last week in ! right
yes!! I grew up cooking too. Easy to visualize 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, when you can see stacking meas cups
Such a memorable experience for entire family
I love going to IKEA too. Always get lots of ideas there.
3 day weekends will do that for you!
I think the only "bad" teachers are the ones that just don't care about kids. anyone who cares can improve.
I reject all things , unless they involve hanging with Ari
That's what I see on my TV stand. :(
Ahhh I could spend ALL day at IKEA. Our STEM Lab has TONS of cool things from there!
I'm pretty sure I'm still a kid...
A4: Someone who talks more than they listen.
A4: 11th grade Chem , only class I failed, told me “you’re probably too smart to get this the way I teach it.”
Thanks Ann. Definitely the reason I became a teacher!
love me some Swedish meatballs
I am no longer allowed to go unsupervised
A4: I had a teacher who did nothing but lecture and humiliated students when they got answers wrong. I've hated math ever since.
A4: Power-hungry teachers who demean students to feel better about themselves
A4) I have had a couple that like to embarrass people. Not cool.
A4: she got mad at me because I missed a ton of school from being legit sick, yet I still had an A+
A4: I had a T who did not know my name at the end of the school year. As a result, I made a promise to know all 150 Ss in 1st week
whenever I talk to Ss I'm like 'don't grow up, it's a scam'
A5 I had a few HS Ts that were disinterested & it was very clear they hated Ss & teaching. It was a waste of time for us.
A4 Ahhhhhhhhh well someone who does NOT put themselves in their Ss shoes and does not reflect. =(
. Truth! As a coach, I keep in my <3 the belief that I cannot discount any teacher no matter how reluctant he may seem
Maybe it's time for a fantasy basketball league. You in?
A4: A H.S. ELA teacher who didn't believ we were going anywhere b/c we weren't Honors/AP
HA! You should make that into a shirt!!!
A4: find a way to support Ss advancing beyond what you're doing w/the rest of the class. Marking time might help u, but not the S
I'm with you. Mission critical.
I will gladly "supervise" you!
A3 But teaching is a human activity. Connection is necessary.
A4 cont: H.S. counselor who didn't let me attend college presentations Senior year b/c I missed a lot of school Freshmen year.
thats what makes it hard the people on the other end!
A4: be prepared/organized, care about kids, use a variety of learning strategies, give students a voice https://t.co/WJ0480kLTF
A4: Ts who think Ss CAN'T. all teachers should realize there is great power in the word YET... https://t.co/wEnaEHIAXo
Oh, I should have tagged on this too.
I have limited basketball knowledge, but I'd do it for fun!
How is it possible to teach a S for a year and not know their name?!? Crazy Def mission critical
A4: Consistency is key. Change of classroom management can create chaos.
A3: Don't talk down to me . Talk with me. Eye contact. Listen to Understand
A4: Don't make it personal with the kids. Treat everyone fairly
I love how brightly colored everything is. Ahhhhh IKEA
i feel so popular, HS me wouldn't believe this
Sounds like a field trip for the crew
A4) I have had Ts who think they know it all and never admit not knowing something. I admit that I am a learner.
Me too. I'll be forever young. 😊
A4: pre-assess, give students feedback, communicate learning targets, be engaging, build relationships https://t.co/WJ0480kLTF
Let's DO it!!!!! I bet we could find TONS of great STEAM stuff there!
Things that bother me in clssrms r lack of community, disrespect (both ways), & activities that don't match goals. All tchr driven
A4: At the end of the trimester, they only had 1 assignment entered into their online grade book. Not much feedback happening
A2: I channeled . A tech phobic. Attend CUE & now K Ss are Seasawing, Coding, Googling away.
live twitter chat in the ikea living rooms? they do have free wifi
seriously not cool. It's not worth a child's (or an adult's) dignity to be ridiculed if they don't know the answer.
You absolutely must do mission critical stuff. Like know their damn names!!!
>.< Ts that dont take education seriously & makes choices in their best interests instead of the Ss. https://t.co/trWmY8gbIK
A4: School doesn’t have to be a drag.
You are TOTALLY on to something Ari!!
Extra gravy for me, please.
A4 not modeling- someone is always watching/listening. Ss, Ts, parents.
I agree! Even on secondary level w/over 100 Ss! ...now if I see you in the mall 5 yrs later that's another story 😂😂
i.e., a revolution in class!
those are the hardest for sure
I love learning from my students... It shocks them sometimes tho. I'm happy to not be the learner
A4 Not having passion for what you are teaching! If you don't love it, why should someone else?
Yeah…I gotta B in Biology & A in physics…I know it’s not very to admit it, but Chem still intimidates
Seriously. That should definitely be the message to kids.
Whew - that alarm is going to be ringing soon!! Heading to bed now, thanks for a great as always!
A4: had T that was waiting to get a college prof position, HS Eng was his "fallback", that was a painful year
. yes. Those are the ones in most need of coaching
Sounds like some red bubble work coming up.
And my next child (not having more hee hee hee) will forever be Aloha Moura.
A4: Ts who "teach" from page 1 to 1000 of the textbook.
A4: Awwww --- Sitting behind the desk in funny clothing just reading the paper = Don't be that person
. I had tchr in Jr high that promised to know all and names and challenged us to do the same within the class
Let's start recruiting people for next season.
now i got that song stuck in my head. FOREVER YOUNG! I WANT TO BE FOREVER YOUNG!
I totally wanted to join this chat since school is over, but I forgot about it, I'll have to catch up
A5: Plenty of ideas for this one. Can’t wait to see others’ ideas.
A5: Definitely my Grandpa. He inspires me daily!
We still have 17 minutes! Jump in!
exactly - it is fundamental to building community. How can we collaborate if I don't know who you are on a basic level?
A5: Don't know if the leadership tips would be good, but I'd love to learn courage lessons from Nellie Bly.
A1: Father Luigi. Youth leader.Struct but inspiring. Taught me 2 believe in ME! Wherever he is always finds time 2check up on ME!
Yes! Still looking for a good one.
I had that too. Laughable experience!
those people leave the best marks
Thankfully social media wasn't as big during high school. My mistakes would be more pronounced.
A5: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Thx Joe! Sad to be missing tonight. Again. Boo!
that's why I"m here, but I'm trying to multi task, that was what I looked forward to summer for, non multi task chats
I took the truck last time...might be why I have to be supervised in the future....
A5: I would love to chat with Ben Franklin, he was a brilliant inventor and a leader.
I would just love to spend time hanging with you girls. too.
oh I totally would have been the victim of cyber bullying & my mom the psycho parent about it
I am thankful of this as well.
Ha ha ha I feel like is ALWAYS a multi-task! Too many awesome side convos!
A5: I'd give anything to have more time with my grandparents. Life lessons. Leadership lessons. https://t.co/OGtwMbhZCO
Oh man. Can you imagine that?!?!
Right!? "Don't let the door hit'cha where the good lord split'cha!"
That WOULD be awesome!!! We would have fun =)
but even bill paying, planning, and painting
wow! a powerful man for sure!
Oh oiy yeah that's way too much for me!
As a teacher, I worked with a principal "Bob" who was an inspiration for me-calm, positive, learning 1st https://t.co/5LXU1p7tyW
A5: yep, Ganna say it! Jesus ... Bringing grace AND truth! It's easy to be the hardass or the friend. Hard 2balance both
A5: Def. MLK - he lead a movement, which took courage, persistence, strategic thinking&hope during a time when many were hopeless
A5
JFK- how to inspire others while encouraging cooperation
thanks Ann! will read for sure
A special kind of meet & tweet.
Oh Man, labs were disaster. Even the T couldn't figure out what I did wrong. Made my P do it all by end
A4: That mean teacher taught me what I did not want to to teach through actions. I choose TO TEACH RESPECT, TRUST, & have fun
A5: I know I’m jumping universes…. but Albus Dumbledore, hands down. .
A5 I would love to chat with Winston Churchill, FDR, Lincoln, & Susan B Anthony. Really too many to mention!
A5: NBA coach - Phil Jackson.
Both. Definitely love the original.
A5 Ada Lovelace, the computing pioneer
A3: do things that you like/love
passion is causing me to consider teaching middle school again, SFUSD is rolling out COding in all middle schools
DO YOU REALY WANT TO LIVE FOREVER & EVER?
I love this answer!!! I would add Snape too. Definitely would like to talk to him! https://t.co/HYuWnn8pcP
A5: I know I’m jumping universes…. but Albus Dumbledore, hands down. .
my elem Ss this year noted how into it I was
Keep singing it all night love.
yeah. Mine were gone way too soon.
. Ah, I have all the feels right now.
. wow in all MSs https://t.co/4tJTdXi1L5
passion is causing me to consider teaching middle school again, SFUSD is rolling out COding in all middle schools
Oh man. You're one of those people. 😊 just kidding.
. …And his wife’s depression and grief.
I never planned on being in any leadership roles! Lol! Now I'm trying to learn fast.
Yes! I notice that more & more too
having that conversation. The kid has been in your class all year & U still get the name wrong. Not cool!
That's funny. So easy to get lost in there - literally & with all the stuff we buy.
a few vacancies for great middle schools making me consider switching
A6. That I listened to them
Seriously. AIM was bad enough for me.
A5. Not sure on historical leadership. I've had gr8 teachers. I've followed people thinking they were great leaders bt was wrong.
A6:That I cared about them
in order to teach coding and computer science all day, current school not collab +
A6: That I held them accountable, but tried to extend grace as well. They'll probably use other choice words in their memoirs.
A6: I want my Ss to say, “Mr. Young never stopped caring for me, challenging me, listening to me, and growing with me.
A6) It would be awesome if they said they loved me.
Ooooo YES! Let's do that!
+ orative enough and no plans to do more collaboration or team teaching :(
Classroom management is 80% of your instruction. can vouch for that
A6 That I believed in them, inspired them and made them want to get to the next level
