I currently work with teachers in birth to five classrooms. We have the youngest learners so I want new Mamas to know how important it is to talk to your babies as soon as they are born. Talk, ask them questions, help them learn language. #ECEChat
A1: Kindergarten. Modeling and inspiration are key factors in writing success for our Little’s. Tell them they can and they will exceed the requirements. #ECEchat
A1: I work with teachers of PK 4's mostly. When we look at our Ss as writers, it is important to be able to see their progression so that you can make important decisions about next steps to grow them as writers. #ECEChat
A1 Pre-K Program Director… I want others to know that we must meet & accept our young writing where they are, beginning w/ the need to strengthen fine motor skills & not trace letters over & over again. #nomoreworksheets#ECEChat
A1: I work with 4th grade this year & I’ve really seen the importance of working on fine motor strength & looking at sentence basics (capital letter, period) before this age. After: we are working on connecting thoughts & organizing information #ECEchat

A1 before (preschool) exposure to variety of text/environmental print, opportunities for FM development, authentic/relevant writing opportunities; after (1st) how far we’ve come!! #ECEChat
A1 As a Kindergarten teacher I would want 1st grade teachers to know I put focus on the foundational skills of writing and the writing process. I focus on teaching students how to write a quality sentence and provide an illustration with it that makes sense #ECEchat

In doing the handwriting portion of ABC bootcamp on plain white boards I have found it to be so much more freeing than when I have taught handwriting in the past. I am amazed at how many of my kiddos can now write their name and we haven’t traced at all!
A1: A1: Teachers, before and after grade level, know that what you do matter in each of the young, aspiring writers you have in your class. You are the role models they look up too! #ecechat
A1: As a LAS, I’d want all teachers (K-5) to know that it is important to model writing, model your thinking throughout the writing process and conference with students about their writing. Also, to provide scaffolding to EL’s. #ECEchat#lisdlas#Lisdbilesl

A2. I love the book Library Mouse. It can be long but it’s all about seeing yourself as a writer. I love using mentor texts that boost confidence. Everyone has stories from their lives. We just need to embrace them! #ECEchat
A2:Any age appropriate books. At least a book day to cover major components of ELAR and listening. This can tie into all content areas at times. #ECEchat

A1 PreK 3 & 4; I especially want kinder teachers to know that the #prek kiddos classes come to them with a lot of great writing experiences from their time in #PreK They are ready to keep growing when they enter kinder, not stall. #ECEchat
A3 Children can use iPads to record themselves telling their stories for the other kiddos to play back. There are lots of apps (i.e. Shadow Puppet) they can add in their own illustrations. #reading#writing#speaking#listening#ECEChat

A2 so many great books! I like to share some of my fave books & Tell Ss they are authors & illustrators; also multiple books by same author- they always seem to get excited to know it’s another book by same author/illustrator! ... #ECEChat
A3. I am really interested in responses to this one! I am 100% open to trying new things and using technology to enhance the process. I plan on using Seesaw to share with families, any other ideas out there... send em this way! #ECEchat
A3: In order to write a story, you first need to be able to oral tell a story in the right sequence. I think technology is a great way to help our students become great story tellers first. Book Creator & Chatter Pix are 2 great APPs for this. #ECEchat
Technology apps like Book Creator and Chatter Pix can help our students become great oral story tellers. You need to be able to tell a story orally before you can transition to writing one. #ECEchat
A3 My students use Seesaw for many writing activities. They can record themselves explaining a drawing or telling a story. They can add labels to pictures. They can move words to label pictures. They can orally narrate or type a sentence for a picture or drawing #ECEChat
Q3: Effective writing instruction takes place throughout your school day and is connected to storytelling and oral language. Share successful strategies. How might technology be integrated with writing? #ECEchat
A3: we connect technology by having Ss type what they’ve written into docs, slides, posters, etc. to expand the ways they can share their writing! (and practice typing skills!!) #ECEchat
A3: effective technology integration could include videos or drawings or pictures recalling details or making predictions of events or developments using graphic organizers portraying student understanding of the book #ECEchat
A3: shared writing!! Model model model during morning message and throughout the day. I also recently discovered the Draw and Tell app, students are drawing community helpers and then telling about them. #ECEChat

A3. Our district implemented this strategy from the book Talk, Read, Talk, Write as a way to gradually prepare them to write by encouraging them to orally share what they plan on expressing before writing it down #ECEchat
A3. Using @seesaw to create sentences by moving coded labels with words for each part of speech then adding their own to extend and enhance sentence #ECEchat

A4 When I still taught first grade, each child maintained a writer’s notebook (binder) with in process writing. When we would publish, we could then add to the classroom library. Old school! #ECEChat
A4: each student has a writing journal (plastic pocket folder w/Brads) where we save samples. Also a little book "me in prek" to track their name and self portrait each month. Writing small group each week! #ECEChat
Great ideas! We love sharing the pen on the Interactive White Board too. We can shared write on it and print the screen to send home with a child to show their parents what their child wrote at school that day. #ECEchat
A4: Journals!!! They are a great way to see students progress throughout the year with their writing strokes, meaningful pictures, idea development, etc. #ECEChat
A3: @SnellBusyBees is a 4th grade T and she uses The Shadow Puppet app. Her students create shadow puppets to orally present their published writing pieces. Great way to integrate technology! #ECEChat#lisdlas#lisdbilesl#ELPS
A4 I utilize a writing binder for each student. The binder has word lists in the front. I keep all their writing in the binder and use a date stamp. At the end of the year I meet with each student and we look at their progress for the year #ECEChat
A3 Model, Model, Model and have an amazing writing center w/ various opportunities for students to explore what was modeled. I love this center’s materials! ❤️✏️ #ECEchat
A4: When I was a classroom teacher we wrote in a journal daily. I kept them month after month. It was a great way to show growth or lack of growth. You can even see a difference in students' drawings as their writing develops. #ECEchat
A3: @SnellBusyBees is a 4th grade T and she uses iMovie as an engaging way for students to orally present their published writing pieces. Great way to integrate technology! #ECEChat#lisdlas#lisdbilesl#ELPS
A4. When I taught Kdg we used Lucy Caulkins program. The publishing parties were always so special and a great way to keep samples of finished writing. #ecechat
One thing I started this year is what I call “Free draw Friday”. It’s a time where the children can draw whatever they want and add eventually also add words and sentences. The kids absolutely love it ! To make it more exciting they get to use colored pencils and markers #ECEchat
A5 Encourage parents to incorporate writing into every day life. Headed to the grocery? They can make the list. Need to remember to do something? Sticky note reminders. Thank you notes, vacation planners, ideas for weekends. All authentic writing opportunities. #ECEChat
A5. Talk. Read. Ask questions. Accept your child as a writer where they are at. Don’t shove workbooks and tracing down their throats. My daughter loves to draw and make letters, so I embrace it and give her the tools to explore! #ECEchat
A5 I encourage parents to reply to students work posted on Seesaw. I also take photos of their work and share it with parents on Seesaw so they can talk with their children about what they drew or wrote. #ECEChat
A4: each student has a writing journal (plastic pocket folder w/Brads) where we save samples. Also a little book "me in prek" to track their name and self portrait each month. Writing small group each week! #ECEChat
A5 I also provide parents with a paper that explains the developmental process of writing in Kindergarten so they can support their child’s writing and understand that words do not have to be spelled correctly and such #ECEChat
A5 We must educate our parents regarding the writing process & accepting where their child is in that process… Refrain from belittling a child for ‘scribbling’ and forcing them to trace letters when they simply around ready yet! #ECEchat
A5: Help parents see that writing can be natural and fun by sharing ways to incorporate authentic writing at home. It shouldn't be workbooks and tracing. #ECEChat
A5: read read read! Sing it from the mountain tops! Read labels at the store. Read books. Read recipes while cooking. Read street signs! Write shopping lists, write to do lists and more! Make reading & writing a part of routines #ECEChat
This is very important.. If we constantly focus on correcting everything then the students may feel as if their writing isn’t good enough, or wrong… I fear the words ‘I can’t’ coming out… #ECEChat
In doing the handwriting portion of ABC bootcamp on plain white boards I have found it to be so much more freeing than when I have taught handwriting in the past. I am amazed at how many of my kiddos can now write their name and we haven’t traced at all!

A5: Help parents realize how to integrate writing into their day and discover ways to make writing fun! Ryker writes in the bathtub every night! #ECEChat
A6: I work with teachers rather than directly with Ss. I would like to get better at helping Ts confer with young writers to make instructional decisions to nudge them along the writing continuum. These are two great resources I've been using lately. @Mattglover123#ECEChat
A5: As a parent of a kinder this year, I appreciate her teacher openly communicating with me via email and newsletter of words the class is working on each 6 weeks period. We draw pictures of words at home bc she loves to be an artist when she grows up ☺️ #ecechat
A5 Parents can support their emerging writer...
By talking about things in their child's world.
Reading, reading, reading!
Let their child draw and draw and draw and write and write.
Talk about their pictures & having their child tell them the story in their pic. #ecechat
