The #coachapproach chat benefits school administrators and other school leaders wishing to lead with a "coaching hat." It moderated by the co-authors of the book The Coach Approach to School Leadership: Leading Teachers to Higher Levels of Effectiveness.
Cristina, Reading Specialist, from Virginia Beach, VA. In my role, I collaborate with Ts from all grade levels and would like to hear what is working for others and how they overcome difficulties in coaching. #CoachApproach#LoveLiteracyLearning
A1: I give teachers q's prior to our end of year meeting to be ready to share reflections on that include celebrations from this year, goals for next year and asking for feedback on my leadership as well. #CoachApproach
Awe, Steve - you are so kind. Was your nose itching or ears burning today. Talked to a group of coaches in our area that still go back to notes from your skype with us several years ago! :) #CoachApproach
#coachapproach here are my summer questions for principals withhttp://barkleypd.com/blog/a-summer-conversation-for-instructional-coaches-and-principals/ coaches
A1: I think what we do it pretty standard, reflect on annual goals and progress made formally. I think this could be much more of a celebration than a checkbox item. #CoachApproach
A1 We just spent a day reflecting with our Teacher Leader Network. The took a look back at this year and started planning for next year. The expressed the need to do more side-by-side planning with administrators. Common Vision! #CoachApproach
I agree....don't make it a hoop to jump through or paperwork to fill out. Make it about the reflective conversation and celebrate to build excitement for next year and ongoing professional learning for the summer. #Coachapproach
A1: When I meet with Ts, I have them reflect: I'm proud of my glow, an area I'd like to grow, I know where to go, I don't think I know. . .this helps provide me with areas to follow-up on individually, with a grade level, or even school-wide. #CoachApproach#LoveLiteracyLearning
Personally, I am a coach and see my job as facilitating reflection ongoing. The end of the year is no different from any part of the coaching cycle in that regard. #CoachApproach
#coachapproach just signed on with a principal to interview a teacher from each PLC, leadership team, secretary and para rep to develop the principals leadership goals for next year.... just did similar on head of a school in Spain... powerful modelling for staff
I meet with teachers and we discuss what they are most proud of, what they've learned the most from, what they'd like to forget, and what they'd like to do differently #CoachApproach#LoveLiteracyLearning
#coachapproach having teachers vertical set goals for students for the next year is celebration and reflection... described in this podcast https://t.co/C4Gl6p6g5f
A2: Team successes... we’ve got lesson study and curriculum topic study up and running, a new coaching cohort, project based learning initiative and have moved to proficiency based learning and reporting k-12 this year. #CoachApproach
A2: This year, our Ts were tasked with doing quarterly expository writing related to their SCI/SS objs. Ts used district rubrics but added specificity related to the writing topic. Our Ts and Ss performed better this year than ever before #coachapproach#LoveLiteracyLearning
I can't believe that I didn't know you had a podcast....just learned about it a couple of weeks ago. Now my phone is filled up to catch up on all that awesomeness! #CoachApproach
Wow! Lesson study, curriculum topic study, coaching, cohort, PBL, proficiency learning - can we talk?! Would love to interview you for our next book! #coachapproach
A3: My won goal is to improve the accessibility and quality of instructional coaching. And to work on structures and beliefs that limit equity. #coachApproach
A3: I would like to work with Ts to support them becoming more confident in making instructional decisions based on data, anecdotal notes, & observations. I'd like to see Ts decide on interventions/enrichment opportunities that their Ss need. #coachapproach#LoveLiteracyLearning
