A3: Good oldfashioned talking and connecting. Personalize and don't be afraid to ask for more. Your rocks https://t.co/i47ylGMKQi
Q3 Question 3: What tools and resources do you use to enhance collaboration? How? Not just digital. https://t.co/am1FSZ3WlA
Yes Yes and YYEESSSSS!!! https://t.co/FOdY3Xicw3
I love how google drive automatically saves for you and you don't have to worry about it
chat. Yes! love this. My last podcast was all about using Skype. Hope you check it out. Good one. https://t.co/4QmXgkfNOT
Thank you for this idea! https://t.co/UvU0LSzG6v
A3: We are starting to use more to collaborate with Ts from all over the world.
THIS IS CRITICAL & WE DON'T DO IT ENOUGH (sorry for yelling; I got excited). https://t.co/gqVg0Pz0kX
A3: I wish we had more time to observe other Ts! I feel like I would learn so much from seeing how others structure their lessons.
It gets highly competitive to see which team can out theme the others!
has 2 chats and . They turn my commute into precious PD!
I know a principal posted that he takes Ts classes so they can go observe others. Wish I could remember who :-(
A4 wasting time talking to adults without talking about what helps kids
Loving tonight! Not only did I get my fix of as , but now I get to interact with this innovative educator!
A4: Find platforms and create nomrs where everyone, even the introverts, have a voice!
A4: Remain open-minded and reasonable! A closed minded person will only close themselves off from wonderful ideas!
YES! (sorry, yelling again). https://t.co/b1hIrjybBy
A3: A good old fashioned colleague observation can give a lot of insight into your practice b/c you already know it works with your Ss
I feel like that just makes the ideas better! :)
A4: Dangers could be we doubt ourselves or we don't take the risk bc others are slow to adopt. You still have to trust yourself
A4: A pitfall is turning a collaborative session into a complaining session! Save your drama for yo momma!
A4: There's always a fine line between integrating ideas and flat-out copying. The latter is not nearly as consistently effective.
A4: Forgetting the CO in collaboration is a big danger. Another is forgetting your collective purpose = the Ss.
A4: Oversharing w/hesitant, new learners can shut down their willingness to try. Share thoughtfully!
A4: I think the biggest pitfall lies in NOT collaborating. We all have something to learn & all have things to share.
ask to make a pineapple calendar to at your school. More T collab.
A4: be confident in your ideas & let your voice be heard - don't just agree to something, put your spin on it
A4: Inadvertently putting down others' ideas, fear of sharing for fear of people not liking your idea.
So true...trusting yourself could be difficult but something that must be done.
A4: Staying in your comfort zone or staying in your "area"; many times I learn the most from someone not in my discipline.
A4: Tangents always get us, we come up with a agenda and then we are way off topic and nothing gets done, not always a bad thing
Q4: One danger is thinking that your ideas are the ONLY way
A4) Hitchhikers and hijackers can mess up true collaboration! There has to be mutual participation.
A4: Avoid falling into traps like negativity and repeating the same mistakes we have made previously.
A4 I think balance is important in collaborating both in curriculum & input-the best experience come from working together & creating!
A4 be sure to collab, give = opps for input, voice, worry abt there not being = particp/contribution
A4: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. I but there are other resources and ways to connect https://t.co/vS2U9VuCKN
sadly this can happen too often. Leaders must shut this down with tact. Tips? I blurt out something pos. https://t.co/aUaiCYlpTX
A4: A pitfall is turning a collaborative session into a complaining session! Save your drama for yo momma!
A4. Sharing but not listening. Sharing with no action. I believe collaboration should come with a change in action.
A4:Other danger is you tend to hand with those with similar thoughts and ideas. You could limit yourself if you're not open to others
A4: We have to feel comfortable enough with other Ts to share fails and blunders. Growth mindset for Ss AND their Ts = more risks!
A4: I don't see dangers, but what we will see is if someone else's style or methods fits our passion and philosophy. If not, it's OK!
A3: video sharing screen-0-matic Google hangouts nothing beats a round table F2F
A4: Collaboration can't be contrived. There has to be genuine Ts who genuinely want to help each other. It's organic, not a mandate
A4: do what works for YOUR students; don't be afraid to customize collaborative ideas
I guess I should learn how to not do this while I'm in college. I really like my comfort zone. haha
Yes, most of the Ts I work with aren't connected (yet) and have great ideas too!
Great point. Listening the most important aspect to learning from others.
A4) Jealousy, backbiting, gossip, insecurity. (wait, you said about collab, right? Maybe I was thinking of my middle school). ;)
A4: Sometimes Ts expect that their teaching partner or team will do lesson plans for them if they are out for extended period of time
A4: Dangers-allowing someone w bigger voice to take over & not letting everyone have a part or being unsure & afraid to share ideas.
A4: Negativity! It's easy to be pulled into, but you have to keep it all positive
Wow! Love this one! Read it. Share it! chat https://t.co/SLp1DKEvN8
I know a principal posted that he takes Ts classes so they can go observe others. Wish I could remember who :-(
You're too modest my man! Love listening and appreciate you taking the time to share with other educators!
A4:"Without trust we do not collaborate; we merely coordinate, or at best cooperate." Stephen Covey. True collaboration has depth.
A4: Collaboration can fail if participants are not willing to give true, effective feedback. Gotta keep it real!
sometimes it feels like we never left middle school! :p
A4 knowing that not all ideas are used & keeping communications positive- there is no Right! We all r learning https://t.co/YL4VzlZCDK
A4: Allowing everyone a voice staying on topic and staying positive
Such very nice comments Erica. Thank you so much. You are a fantastic educator & your Ss are lucky to have you
A4: You must collaborate with those that help you grow. Don't waste your time on those negatives https://t.co/cSmsdkaf2R
A4: I've heard of a lot of backstabbing, gossip stories that are shared during "collaborative" time.
A4: One thing we notice is fear! People are nervous that someone is better than them or are doing more and will take away from them.
A4: Watch out for communication breakdowns, inactive listening, passive aggression, personal agendas https://t.co/1W3zzLfGwl
A4: Pitfalls-forgetting task at hand & socializing too much, or too much focus on product & not process.
Great point. https://t.co/gMLfNBhdFn
A4: Collaboration can't be contrived. There has to be genuine Ts who genuinely want to help each other. It's organic, not a mandate
Sometimes we say we are collaborating but it's more like parallel play. Do Ts really know what it means to collab? Impt to define!
A4) Avoid walking the plank of "won't work", the alligator of "some day" and the noose of "fixed mindsets"
A4: Collaboration leads to an ownership of instruction as a school, & not just individual Ts. It allows us all to improve each other .
That's what tazers are for. Either that or a talking stick.
A4 Be mindful of egos, even your own. Critical minds will shut down collab quickly.
A4 It's always helpful to communicate clearly & often while collaborating & be clear about your goals & expectations up front
This is my life. Any hints to conquering it while I'm still in college and not in the field yet?
This! Awesome! https://t.co/OFL4oVzMCt
A4) Hitchhikers and hijackers can mess up true collaboration! There has to be mutual participation.
Was going to say something along these lines, but this is worded much more eloquently! https://t.co/ujBlgOuYsS
A4: You must collaborate with those that help you grow. Don't waste your time on those negatives https://t.co/cSmsdkaf2R
We have to ENcourage not DIScourage. Think growth mindset!
No fear here. Well aware of how many are better than me. I just get close and soak it all in.
Collaboration falls apart when the "We" is replaced by "I"
A4) Right now, I am learning THE MOST from THE YOUNGEST/MOST NOVICE member of our department. She ROCKS! Observed her today!
Encourage them to post ideas through Google forms - and share them through school blog if possible.
I love this! These are all traps that I have seen/heard people (myself included) fall into!
Ohh! I love this! Need a poster of this!!
we do 2-3 short peer observations each time we track in. https://t.co/vNbGFbnaGy

Great for Ss too https://t.co/CrxN3STUC7
I love how google drive automatically saves for you and you don't have to worry about it
A4-Definitely easy to get overwhelmed when a wealth of ideas are shared. Gotta focus on what's important in the midst of collaboration
Agree! We want to learn from others, that's why we are here. Some teachers just say it's my way or no way and that's bad!
That is awesome. We can learn from everyone if we are open to it https://t.co/6FHwBD2QGh
A4) Right now, I am learning THE MOST from THE YOUNGEST/MOST NOVICE member of our department. She ROCKS! Observed her today!
That's great! Our new Soc Stud Ts are absolutely rocking it w/ new & innovative ideas. Engagement through the roof.
It is easy to get overwhelmed when a part of good collaboration! Just like my first ! https://t.co/7W2AbNY8MS
A4-Definitely easy to get overwhelmed when a wealth of ideas are shared. Gotta focus on what's important in the midst of collaboration
It is bad because ones that suffer the most are the Ss. I want to give the best to my Ss no matter where that comes from.
Beginner's Mind, right? Approach everything as if a student & have something to learn. Can come from ANYWHERE. https://t.co/cf4m0gdIif
That is awesome. We can learn from everyone if we are open to it https://t.co/6FHwBD2QGh

A4) Right now, I am learning THE MOST from THE YOUNGEST/MOST NOVICE member of our department. She ROCKS! Observed her today!
Thanks. I throw a lot of 'stuff' out there - some of it works. Some of it not so much F.A.I.L.
Sometimes curating ideas and information from others will help us grow just as much. It's still collaboration
Good on ya for taking on two chats! Tried that once and could not keep up! Especially when they move as fast as !
A4b I think being a good listener and cheerleader for others trying new things is a great way to create a for Ts!
That acronym is so important to remember! https://t.co/fHMHmNHZeb
Thanks. I throw a lot of 'stuff' out there - some of it works. Some of it not so much F.A.I.L.
as a college student coming into this field, that is encouraging to hear!
IMO "experience" means "Life experiences" and we all have them to use as ways to connect Ss to content https://t.co/UGtXdODbfm

A4) Right now, I am learning THE MOST from THE YOUNGEST/MOST NOVICE member of our department. She ROCKS! Observed her today!
We forget. Teaching is an autonomous profession. Collab is just hard for some Ts. Be mindful and not pushy about bringing them along.
Okay, crew, must head out. You know where to find me if you want to talk. Don't forget the self-care as we head to summer. Peace.
Learn the basics of classroom management & be innovative w/ your teaching strategies. Ss want & need variety
chat: prepping Q5. Time sure is flying. Great discussion. Let’s finish strong!!!!!
Good method. chat. Any others.

Thanks. I throw a lot of 'stuff' out there - some of it works. Some of it not so much F.A.I.L.
We created a shared slideshow where other Ts nominated each other for great ideas! Reviewed at each staff meeting.
Keep it up - and good luck on your journey.
Thanks, Dan. I'm adding "Beginners Mindset" to my "Growth Mindset" Ts and Ss need both.

good ole’ face-to-face collaborations are HUGE. Gotta get those too. You are all so awesome tonight
A5b: Seems a fitting place to repost this. Get out of your comfort zones Teachers! https://t.co/WdPK1Zk2R9
Teachers: Step out of your comfort zone and attend a conference w/o teachers from your school/district.
Technology has helped us collaborate a lot. Like now with Twitter. And skype with other teachers around the world.

Would love to with someone to plan a for 5th Grade Math/Science! Any takers??
Going to first edcamp in a couple weeks as well. Heard only good things about collaborating there. Looking forward to checking it out.

I agree that scheduling can make collaboration time a reality
A great chat tonight! Glad to have hopped over right from ! Thanks!
You should connect with and be unstoppable forces in the teaching world!
We read “Focus,”Drive,” and a lot of schools I work w/now are reading “blended”

A6: Wish I had more TIME. Gotta check w/the boss man. ; )
I read most of those :) now on Pure Genius, book study was Invent to Learn
A6: more time to observe my own team teaching, my principal can provide it, will be asking!
A6: WOW - Great Q! I think we all need an open mind and schools need similar tools. It would be great if all schools had tech for Sts!
A6: A firm and concrete understanding that the ultimate goal is to benefit the learning of the students. Leave the ego at the door
A6: Humility and confidence. I have a hard time breaking down my pride to ask for help, and too shy to speak up.
A6: To collaborate more effectively, we must continue to expand our PLN, so we can bring a more global perspective to the table.
A6. Opportunities to see others teach. Our district is doing this by allowing for PD days.
A6 I'd like to go to an edcamp someday. Lil kids at home make that tough but with time I'll go.
YES! Time is the BIG need for most of us!
I enjoy reading, 2 book studies now and 1 coming up :) via
I enjoy reading, 2 book studies now and 1 coming up :)
A6: I need the time to collaborate and someone who is willing and able to focus that collaboration into a real collective effort
A6: An stay-cation(I want to come home & see my family each night.) for a week each quarter. Can you imagine!?
A6: Open-minded collaborators willing to step away from the tight constraints of the pacing guide, and time!
A6 Yes. Time. That’s really the answer isn’t it? How do we schedule it? Master schedule change? I think so.
A6: We need time, open minds, technology/resources, innovative ideas, passion, desire to learn/grow, ability to leave our ego behind.
A6) Help Ts maintain positive atti. to create & work on ideas that are purposeful & game changing: keep sailing, horizon is there
Definitely, always diff perspectives, help us reflect, grow, meet new , all benefits!
A6: I’d love to do a session for collaboration. Hmm...
A6: simply to keep it open minded
A6: Time to observe other Ts, ask questions, read innovative blogs & books... but then... mostly a whiteboard & a shared goal
A6: Time and understanding. Ts worry that taking time to collaborate might not come across as productive with admin.
A6: Time, can-do attitude, hint of humor, touch of tenacity, lust for learning, and a confident captain https://t.co/TGUvYUzj1o
Q6 Question 6: Last one: What do you need to collaborate better? Name it? Who can provide it? https://t.co/J3hEDBxFsq
A6: Tech collaboration is great! Truly though we need & would value more face-to-face TIME.
A6 Time... So much to learn and making time to grow professionally is important to me but more so for my Ss https://t.co/AUTIGDlRp5
Q6 Question 6: Last one: What do you need to collaborate better? Name it? Who can provide it? https://t.co/J3hEDBxFsq
A6: Time schedule it! Leadership that motivates encourages new ideas and allows one to first fail in order to succeed
great chat this evening! Sorry I missed it live. Will read the archives. Next time!
Makes me wonder if admin are collaborating? Interesting…
I love ! Collaboration would be an awesome breakout. My 4th graders love that stuff https://t.co/lCoNpMuDsa
A6: I’d love to do a session for collaboration. Hmm...
I'm admin. and I'm here collaborating! I promise we do!
A6: Need to build a video library of Ts best lessons & practices. Ts can access anytime. Connect w/ those Ts for follow up Q & A time
A6 Collaborating with teachers from other schools or districts.
A6: Time to collaborate with innovative educators. Accountability partners are also good to have!
Innovative scheduling! Look at other countries. They spend more time on teacher PL and the impact on Ss is huge!
I agree-Time to learn & collaborate
Wish I was organized enough to iron the night before! Always in a rush in the mornings! Lol
been a great chat! Thank you! 👍🏽😊
We're using badges for PD next year. I'm building a schedule where Ts can see new being used in class to observe its use.
Glad to see you here. Do admins put focus on connecting w/ other admin as well?
A5: We build in collaboration time each day in the master schedule. T's embrace the additional time.
Great chat. TY for bringing us all together on best ways to collaborate.
been a great chat! Thank you 👍🏽😊
Definitely try to get to an edcamp and sign up for great opps!
I do. I have a Facebook chat group with a bunch of assistant principals where we chat all the time.
The perfect leader understands those in the ranks. will take all of the credit for that I'm sure!
Competition so hard to shake - need to focus on making education better for ALL Ss. Not just the ones we see every day.
its been a great chat! This was my first time, I was super encouraged, and can't wait to join again another time!
Preach! The students will get so much more from us if we work together and not against each other!
