This makes me think of the "old" model of education - the factory model that prepared Ss for work. Unfortunately, that model was so good at what it accomplished, we are still using it even though today schools are charged with preparing students for more than work! #fcpslearn

A1: Like a diamond, there are many facets that are addressed in school. Not everything is about the content, but it doesn't mean that it is not important. There are so many life skills that are discussed and shared throughout the course of the day. #fcpslearn

A2: Recently had to have some "real talk" with several classes explaining my concern over consistently choosing to not meet deadlines. Had to talk about life lessons. I want to make sure I am preparing them for success. #fcpslearn
It is such a struggle, isn't it? All about having support around us, and constantly challenging ourselves to break out of the mold in any way we can. #fcpslearn

A2: One thin I am is doing is developing the SEL curriculum for ESOL, Immigrant, and refugee students within my district. Plus, relationship building each day, budgeting and financial planning lessons, goal setting, and community involvement opportunities #fcpslearn
so hard to do in a HS math class. Not a lot of students are passionate about math, so I have to connect math to as many other aspects of their lives as I can. #fcpslearn

Students should not just acquire content, but develop the skills they will need for future success. Content is a part of that, but it is not all. And I want them to have the skills to further develop as they grow older. It's about life. But hard for many to see that. #fcpslearn
A2: I am no longer in the classroom, so I’m going to answer this in 2 ways. First, when a S is doing something wrong, I use it as an opportunity to model compassion/empathy/listening skills and help Ss problem solve for future improvement. #fcpslearn

A2.2 I believe this applies to Ts as well. I do not focus only on Ts quality of instruction. We discuss what’s going on in life, reflect, set goals for improvement, talk about S needs, & the future of Ed. Coaching becomes a convo to improve the person, not only the T #fcpslearn
Yeah. What to do about it? I'm exploring schools in my area that offer more experiential education, and trying to get my school to consider this as an option for a cohort of Ss. #fcpslearn
