Howdy Gents!
My name is Zach Herbst QBs Cypress, TX Founder of My GA Online and Tonight's Guest host of #TXHSFBCHAT
Tonight's Topic is scouting and game planning for an opponent! We will be kicking off the 1st question in 2 minutes!
Q1; What is your process when you first turn on the film of a future opponent?
Do you have a particular procedure for analyzing a new opponent? #TXHSFBCHAT
Both! I watch a lot of the offense to break down the film and then I have to watch the defense to label. So really I watch each play almost 5 times! #txhsfbchat
A2: I want to know the tempo of the offense and defense as well as how they get the calls. Wrist bands/signals. We tradiationaly only send scouts when it comes to playoffs! #TXHSFBCHAT
We don't live scout it, lol. We keep the freshmen coaches with us. They all have gameday duties. We have no ability to require our ms coaches to go either. #TXHSFBCHAT
Teams are consistently who they are. Every game is different but if they show a tendency to have a let down after a bad play, it can influence my play calling. If I see bad body language, I’m going for the big play. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: I am going to say 75/25. I always assume that team or kid is going to get coached up and get better during the week. But sometimes they are just going to be outmatched! #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: There are things like effort especially behind the play that can be hard to gauge just off film. We are a staff of 3 people 7-12 so we don't live scout. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: We stick with our bread and butter plays...if we adjust anything, it may be to switch out some passing concepts to take advantage of their coverage. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: We are going to run our offense. Obviously certain fronts are better for certain plays, but ultimately we will take what the defense is going to give us. Not above running the same play 40 times if it's working #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: There are things we hold back from using in non-district, or things we've been saving for specific opponents, but when it comes down to it, you have to use whatever you need to win #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I always fear when the opposing staff runs the same schemes that the coaches and players can think along the same line as your team! Always something to take into consideration! #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: I think the worth of the game plan is determined through the week of practice. How are the kids picking it up and executing against the scout team? How are the slight alterations or additions being picked up? And then how do they perform during the game? #TXHSFBCHAT
