A0: Jonathan Synnott, Tech Tosa for Perris Union HSD. My preferred method for completing my taxes is relying on my wife's expertise in completing them. #IEedchat (she uses Turbotax)
A0: Tom Ashley, Tech Coach TOSA from @PalomaValley HS in the awesome @puhsd. I've had others prepare my taxes for years & they all did a great job, but for the last 2 years I have just been using Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax kept trying to up-sell me to deluxe services :-( #IEedchat
Robert Guzman
Tech Coach @CMIPerris
I usually use a software to figure out my taxes, but I won't mention who they are. I don't do plugs for products #IEedchat
A1: Environment is not neutral; it shapes behavior. The "dream" classroom allows educators to be Learning Experience Designers. No fixed front of the class, flexible seating, spaces for collaboration or one-on-one interaction etc.
#IEedchat
A1: Best classroom? Way more comfortable/rearrangeable seating for students. Great sound, great video, great wifi for Ss and awesome LMS like Canvas to share content. #IEedchat
A1:
My best classroom would be set up like a cafe, where you have some lounge chairs and couches even some bean bags. I would also have two 80Inch Monitors to lead instruction. On another wall it would be a talking wall where students can write on it. Lastly some plants #IEedchat
A1: Easily adaptable furniture to provide a variety of setups; built in charging stations and indestructible computers in every desk (we said we can dream, right?) #IEedchat
A2: The average teacher worries about the basics: Copiers and paper. Good textbooks with great online components. Salary that is fair commensurate to their level of education. Classroom that has good tech and matching furniture and all the basic supplies. #IEedchat
A1) Outside. With Glass walls that we can write on with color markers. Couches. We need a roof so if it drizzles we can stay under the roof. Or use as shade on a really hot day. And mats for group work
#IEedchat
A2: Based on my understanding, teacher priority is to increase dollar amount per student in order to provide supplies, materials, curriculum, etc. #IEedchat
Average T's are concerned with basic every day supplies and learning resources for their Ss. They also think about PD or Conferences that will make them better at their craft #IEedchat
A2) Great coworkers with great minds who would collaborate with you and build great stuff. Students who work. Parents to want to have dinner with you.... at my dream school, this will be there.
#IEedchat
A3: Consequences: Community at large doesn't notice overcrowding at first, but there are all kinds of consequences that trickle through the student experience. Longer lines, overtaxed office staff, more student conflict, teachers sharing their rooms w/other teachers. #IEedchat
A3:Learning and Ss experience are minimized. The quality of education is dwindled for Ss of that community and its a loss for the area as a whole. #IEedchat
A3) Teachers being filled by long-term subs. No more pencils and notebooks and erasers when their children forgets to bring them. No more markers for their child's math work on the boards...
#IEedchat
A3: When a program goes unfunded or only partially funded as an example, it usually creates a waste of supplies and materials since the program these were purchased for was dropped and the materials often aren't repurposed #IEedchat
That is a huge one, long term subs filling in. Nothing against them, but the Ss do suffer by having a long term sub. Unless they are familiar with the content. #IEedchat
A4: Resources: It is essential for new teachers to learn "the system." There are a lot of site and district funds to tap into if you know how. Ask an experienced teacher that always seems to be getting stuff. #notkidding#IEedchat
A4: Site based Title I funds, site based discretionary funds, Educational Services Title I funds, program based grants, and probably many more I don't know about #IEedchat
A4: Site based Title I funds, site based discretionary funds, Educational Services Title I funds, program based grants, and probably many more I don't know about #IEedchat
A5: Advise on applying for grants is to work with a team to prepare the grant package. They need to have desired outcome, objectives, etc. No matter how small the grant, the benefactor should have a good understanding of your project.
#IEedchat
A4: Site based Title I funds, site based discretionary funds, Educational Services Title I funds, program based grants, and probably many more I don't know about #IEedchat
A5: Grants. Schools are littered with the comment "We should fill out this grant." No, if you want it, YOU should talk to your Principal and YOU fill out that grant. #IEedchat
A5: Just learned this week that there are grants out there that are awarded every year through organizations partnering with the CTA. Not many people apply for them so the chances of getting one if you do is pretty good. #IEedchat
A5: I worked with a colleague on a California Partnership Academy grant. It was time consuming, but worth it. The program was beneficial for our students. #IEedchat
A6: NO MATTER HOW HARD, LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. It is not what you make, it is what you save! Sorry, no handy links to share. Learn about your STRS account. #IEedchat
A6: Make sure you enroll in a 403b account and get a monthly subtraction, do it and you can thank me later. Annual limit is 18,500 if I remember correctly #IEedchat
Dream room: Adjustable desks for sitting or standing, alternative lighting, sensory items for those on the autism spectrum such as kinetic sand, a classroom garden, a supply station with tissues, paper, pencils, pens, a room where it is safe to learn & take risks. #IEedchat
FT: Don't wait for the state to build new schools and colleges. As far as I can tell, CA has gotten out of that business for now. We have to rely on locally funded bonds as much as that approach is imperfect. #IEedchat
