  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:31 PM EDT
Q0: Introduce yourself and share your preferred method for completing your taxes #IEedchat
  • jswilliams Apr 16 @ 10:32 PM EDT
Hello #IEedchat Joseph Williams from @puhsd
  • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:32 PM EDT
A0: Jonathan Synnott, Tech Tosa for Perris Union HSD. My preferred method for completing my taxes is relying on my wife's expertise in completing them. #IEedchat (she uses Turbotax)
  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:32 PM EDT
A0: Deatra Lee, Tech TOSA @puhsd, a friend from high school has been preparing my taxes for the past several years. #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:33 PM EDT
A0: Tom Ashley, Tech Coach TOSA from @PalomaValley HS in the awesome @puhsd. I've had others prepare my taxes for years & they all did a great job, but for the last 2 years I have just been using Turbo Tax. Turbo Tax kept trying to up-sell me to deluxe services :-( #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:33 PM EDT
Robert Guzman Tech Coach @CMIPerris I usually use a software to figure out my taxes, but I won't mention who they are. I don't do plugs for products #IEedchat
  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:35 PM EDT
Q1: DREAM - design your best classroom(s). What would it look like? #IEedchat
  • Chrisjlara24 Apr 16 @ 10:35 PM EDT
A0: Chris Lara 8th grade history. I use the Tax Place in Fullerton for all my taxes and off shore account needs 👍👍 #IEedchat
  • Dale_Chu Apr 16 @ 10:36 PM EDT
HAPPENING NOW: @ieedchat moderating an chat on taxes. Follow along at #IEedchat!
  • jswilliams Apr 16 @ 10:36 PM EDT
A1: Environment is not neutral; it shapes behavior. The "dream" classroom allows educators to be Learning Experience Designers. No fixed front of the class, flexible seating, spaces for collaboration or one-on-one interaction etc. #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:37 PM EDT
A1: Best classroom? Way more comfortable/rearrangeable seating for students. Great sound, great video, great wifi for Ss and awesome LMS like Canvas to share content. #IEedchat
  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:37 PM EDT
A1: I would get input from students. It would probably have indoor space, outdoor space, some furniture for individual & collaborative work. #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:37 PM EDT
A1: My best classroom would be set up like a cafe, where you have some lounge chairs and couches even some bean bags. I would also have two 80Inch Monitors to lead instruction. On another wall it would be a talking wall where students can write on it. Lastly some plants #IEedchat
  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:38 PM EDT
Q2: PRIORITY - Based on your understanding, what do you think the average teacher considers to be Highest priority with school funding? #IEedchat
  • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:38 PM EDT
A1: Easily adaptable furniture to provide a variety of setups; built in charging stations and indestructible computers in every desk (we said we can dream, right?) #IEedchat
  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:38 PM EDT
    Yes, definitely plants! #IEedchat
    In reply to @rguztec
  • jswilliams Apr 16 @ 10:39 PM EDT
A2: The highest priority is to increase funding levels through the LCFF base grant. #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:39 PM EDT
Need that O2 to fill our Ss lungs and brain to learn and they just make for a better environment #IEedchat
    In reply to @DeatraLee
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:40 PM EDT
A2: The average teacher worries about the basics: Copiers and paper. Good textbooks with great online components. Salary that is fair commensurate to their level of education. Classroom that has good tech and matching furniture and all the basic supplies. #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:40 PM EDT
A1) Outside. With Glass walls that we can write on with color markers. Couches. We need a roof so if it drizzles we can stay under the roof. Or use as shade on a really hot day. And mats for group work #IEedchat
  • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:40 PM EDT
A2: Based on my understanding, teacher priority is to increase dollar amount per student in order to provide supplies, materials, curriculum, etc. #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:41 PM EDT
    HI! Been a while! #IEedchat
    In reply to @AshleyMSJC5
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:41 PM EDT
Average T's are concerned with basic every day supplies and learning resources for their Ss. They also think about PD or Conferences that will make them better at their craft #IEedchat
  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:42 PM EDT
Q3: CONSEQUENCES - share a consequence that the community at large might not be aware of when something goes unfunded? #IEedchat
  • jswilliams Apr 16 @ 10:43 PM EDT
A3: PUHSD has increased graduation rates to 93%. We have been successful in increasing achievement. #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:43 PM EDT
A2) Great coworkers with great minds who would collaborate with you and build great stuff. Students who work. Parents to want to have dinner with you.... at my dream school, this will be there. #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:44 PM EDT
A3: Consequences: Community at large doesn't notice overcrowding at first, but there are all kinds of consequences that trickle through the student experience. Longer lines, overtaxed office staff, more student conflict, teachers sharing their rooms w/other teachers. #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:44 PM EDT
A3:Learning and Ss experience are minimized. The quality of education is dwindled for Ss of that community and its a loss for the area as a whole. #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:44 PM EDT
A3) Teachers being filled by long-term subs. No more pencils and notebooks and erasers when their children forgets to bring them. No more markers for their child's math work on the boards... #IEedchat
  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:45 PM EDT
Q4: RESOURCES - what kind of funding sources / options are available for educators from site or district? #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:45 PM EDT
    worse quality lunches.. #IEedchat
    In reply to @AshleyMSJC5
  • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:45 PM EDT
A3: When a program goes unfunded or only partially funded as an example, it usually creates a waste of supplies and materials since the program these were purchased for was dropped and the materials often aren't repurposed #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:45 PM EDT
    true #IEedchat
    In reply to @JSynnott1
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:45 PM EDT
That is a huge one, long term subs filling in. Nothing against them, but the Ss do suffer by having a long term sub. Unless they are familiar with the content. #IEedchat
    In reply to @MathPrincessC
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:46 PM EDT
A4) Whoa! Can't think of any other than Title 1 funds when it comes to funding sources/options from site or district #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:47 PM EDT
A4: Resources: It is essential for new teachers to learn "the system." There are a lot of site and district funds to tap into if you know how. Ask an experienced teacher that always seems to be getting stuff. #notkidding #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:47 PM EDT
    Yup! #IEedchat
    In reply to @rguztec
  • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:47 PM EDT
A4: Site based Title I funds, site based discretionary funds, Educational Services Title I funds, program based grants, and probably many more I don't know about #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:48 PM EDT
    Yeah, what Jonathan said #IEedchat
    • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:47 PM EDT
A4: Site based Title I funds, site based discretionary funds, Educational Services Title I funds, program based grants, and probably many more I don't know about #IEedchat

    Great advice #IEedchat
    In reply to @AshleyMSJC5
  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:49 PM EDT
Q5: GRANTS - Please offer some advice for someone looking for funding outside of their local organization. What other options are available? #IEedchat
  • jswilliams Apr 16 @ 10:50 PM EDT
A5: Advise on applying for grants is to work with a team to prepare the grant package. They need to have desired outcome, objectives, etc. No matter how small the grant, the benefactor should have a good understanding of your project. #IEedchat
  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:50 PM EDT
Agree with what @rguztec said about what @JSynnott1 said #IEedchat
    • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:48 PM EDT
      Yeah, what Jonathan said #IEedchat
      • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:47 PM EDT
A4: Site based Title I funds, site based discretionary funds, Educational Services Title I funds, program based grants, and probably many more I don't know about #IEedchat
  • MathPrincessC Apr 16 @ 10:50 PM EDT
A5) A lot of my friends use https://t.co/rZZipKt0jY. Any organization related to your subject offers grants, like CMC and CUE. #IEedchat
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:51 PM EDT
A5: Grants. Schools are littered with the comment "We should fill out this grant." No, if you want it, YOU should talk to your Principal and YOU fill out that grant. #IEedchat
  • JSynnott1 Apr 16 @ 10:51 PM EDT
A5: Just learned this week that there are grants out there that are awarded every year through organizations partnering with the CTA. Not many people apply for them so the chances of getting one if you do is pretty good. #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:52 PM EDT
A5: I know our local affiliate @IACUE has a grant that they give to educators every year, but you have to apply to get it #IEedchat
  • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:53 PM EDT
Q6: SAVINGS - what can/should educators do to help manage personal funds for long term? Share resource links if possible. #IEedchat
  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:53 PM EDT
A5: I worked with a colleague on a California Partnership Academy grant. It was time consuming, but worth it. The program was beneficial for our students. #IEedchat
    • ieedchat - Moderator Apr 16 @ 10:49 PM EDT
Q5: GRANTS - Please offer some advice for someone looking for funding outside of their local organization. What other options are available? #IEedchat

  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:55 PM EDT
A6: NO MATTER HOW HARD, LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. It is not what you make, it is what you save! Sorry, no handy links to share. Learn about your STRS account. #IEedchat

Any final thoughts on Money in education? #IEedchat
  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:56 PM EDT
A6: Make sure you enroll in a 403b account and get a monthly subtraction, do it and you can thank me later. Annual limit is 18,500 if I remember correctly #IEedchat
  • YoungDyanna Apr 16 @ 10:56 PM EDT
Dream room: Adjustable desks for sitting or standing, alternative lighting, sensory items for those on the autism spectrum such as kinetic sand, a classroom garden, a supply station with tissues, paper, pencils, pens, a room where it is safe to learn & take risks. #IEedchat

  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:57 PM EDT

  • rguztec Apr 16 @ 10:57 PM EDT
FT: Make sure you got those taxes in, because the IRS is no joke. #IEedchat and Education should also be no joke, so take it serious kids.
  • AshleyMSJC5 Apr 16 @ 10:58 PM EDT
FT: Don't wait for the state to build new schools and colleges. As far as I can tell, CA has gotten out of that business for now. We have to rely on locally funded bonds as much as that approach is imperfect. #IEedchat
  • DeatraLee Apr 16 @ 10:58 PM EDT
I like the kinetic sand idea. #IEedchat
