Hi #CollaborativePD! I’m Stephanie, a literacy teacher educator & coach from NY looking forward to chatting about online PD tonight! Who would I like to see author an online course? My pals at @litcoachconnect could lead an innovative course on making over classroom libraries!
Wow! What an honor for us to have you! Perfect chat for your first. Prepare to be addicted :) #CollaborativePD Here if you need us! @participate@spirrison
Hello Jennifer! Won't be able to stay for the entire chat, but want to come here to say hi to you all. Love this topic. And i am teaching 3 online classes this semester. Using Facebook Groups a lot and live streaming. Love it. #CollaborativePD
Nick from the Jersey Shore. Excited to get started! My fellow peeps that I tagged in earlier could all rock online courses. #collaborativePD@JenWilliamsEdu
I wear a few hats at school but most importantly I am a 4th and 5th grade teacher. Looking forward to reconnecting with some terrific edus! #edchatme#collaborativePD#PLNPower

A1: High quality online courses need to honor educators’ expertise, practice and time. They must be accessible, engaging, authentic, personalized and connected. #CollaborativePD
A1.
- A sense of community => this is SO crucial for an online class when people don't "see" each other
- I use various digital tools to connect w/ my students & create community, eg, weekly Facebook live Q&A w/ students.
#CollaborativePD
A1: Must allow for time to collaborate, time to apply, and time to reflect. One up if they can bring it back to their classes and use with Ss! #CollaborativePD@JenWilliamsEdu
Steve from NJ. I teach game design and development in NJ and am participating in a large scale study on #VR in the classroom with @Foundry10VR- also pretty excited about #EsportsEDU. Popping in from @ShopRiteStores#CollaborativePD
A1: I've come to see the value in community as a cohort, especially online. One of the greatest strengths of my masters program was the cohort. Good classes, bad classes came, but I always learned from the strong cohort around me. #collaborativepd

A1: Same as the classroom, it starts with the vision, passion and empathetic mindset of the educator authoring the course. From there, we can expand into community engagement and collaboration. Having tools that support this process celebrate delight also help. #CollaborativePD
A1 it can’t be all asynchronous. You have to have parts where you can come together and discuss. More than a forum or a discussion board #collaborativePD

Hi, Attiya here from Florida. Other than the flexibility of time and place, quality of resources and practicality of the strategies being taught during these online PDs are some important elements in my opinion. #CollaborativePD
i agree. I use facebook group and do "polls" to figure out a time that many students can join, and then schedule facebook live Q&A to hang out w/ my students. #CollaborativePD
A1 never been a part of an effective online course. Always just checking boxes to move on and droning on through boring discussions. Needs to bring the world to life with more active learning. #CollaborativePD

our calling! i think everyone participating in this conversation right now has the capacit to lead those types of learning experiences. #CollaborativePD

A1: Robin - IL, Interactive, during #HiveSummit, I used sketchnotes for the 1st time to record my notes! Relevant topics that support educators, online community. @mrmatera#CollaborativePD@participate

A2: Online courses need to empower teacher learning in innovative ways. Teachers deserve recognition for the reading, writing, planning and thinking they engage in to support students and innovate their classroom. #CollaborativePD
A2: I believe that online courses allow educators to complete them when they are able. it is so much about personalized learning and online courses allow for more flexibility. #CollaborativePD
A2.
- Technology helps break down the physical barriers of classroom walls.
- Use tech to help make meaningful connections & bring the outside world into the classroom
#CollaborativePD
Absolutely! I use @Schoology for all of my online modules. Works on mobile devices and allows me to award badges or take part in a discussion anywhere I go! #CollaborativePD
A2: The online courses have to be relevant topics that spark something, create ideas offer strategies if that is what is needed. #CollaborativePD#lovetolearn
Q2: Community participation is integral to the learning experience. Take this conversation, for instance. The more engaged the participants, the better the learning experience is for everyone. Some organization needs to figure out how to bottle that up. #CollaborativePD

A2: Choice with collaboration beyond the walls of your school AND control of your own time and pace. Hmmm...sounds like a winning combo to me! #CollaborativePD
A3: Districts and administrators can learn about effective PD and connect their teachers to online courses that fit their interests and lifestyles. Discard traditional methods of PD and encourage teachers to personalize their own learning journey. #CollaborativePD
A2: I have attended quite a few online Pds and I feel the difference comes in the way the content is organized and easily accessible to us. One thing that I really like about @participate is that someone is always there to chat with you if needed. #CollaborativePD
A2 as someone who create a university’s online program backbone, it is all about the community of learners. That is the most important part to me #CollaborativePD
Q3: As a speech language pathologist, some of the PD I receive in my school district is not always related to my profession and my needs. I believe that online courses may support my needs by giving me a choice etc. #CollaborativePD
A3: By allowing them to work at their own pace, pick the topics that most interest them, and find ways to extend the learning beyond the online course or module itself! #CollaborativePD@JenWilliamsEdu
That is wonderful to hear, Attiya! This is actually a daily conversation for us with our team--being present and active in all parts of the experience for our teachers! Grateful for you and your amazing feedback always! #CollaborativePD#relationshipsfirstALWAYS
This is such a great point, Lisa. Districts often have constraints that cannot be avoided, but they can encourage teachers to follow their interests and needs by offering creativity and flexibility. #CollaborativePD
A3 #CollaborativePD Curating online courses is nice, but so is allowing for personal choice in what teachers learn: we know best where we need the most growth. #edchat@participate
I write and teach online 3 credit grad courses for Professional Development Institute. https://t.co/Dtr3qqbwQU Gr8 classes, year to complete, less than $375 total. I have gotten grants to pay for teachers to take classes. #CollaborativePD

A3: Experiment with blended learning models that provide and choice to educators. This is a gradual process, but if you find a relevant initiative that an online course/community can support - be creative and make it happen. #CollaborativePD
Check-points are an essential part of @participate courses. This is such a great point. Celebrate growth and learning every step of the way! #CollaborativePD

Q4: In her post on online courses, educator Laura Fleming challenges us to think differently about PD. Thinking ahead, what types of innovations should we consider for the future of online courses for #CollaborativePD? @LFlemingEDUhttps://t.co/G24vNA7Fsy
A3: One way is by having discussion boards that act as digital parking lots. This way your district forms a community as the professional learning communicates with everyone #CollaborativePD I love using @Schoology to bring everyone together.
Tim check out some of my blog posts. Been working on revamping PD myself including how to create effective and engaging online modules. https://t.co/z9stA5Es47#CollaborativePD
A4: How can we innovate? Help teachers cultivate their PLN in connected ways, create their own vision & plan for teacher learning, create authentic learning opportunities that credit teachers’ reading, writing & planning & make clear connections to the classroom. #CollaborativePD

Each day #HiveSummit offered a speaker with a topic. I was able to watch it at my convenience, and able to watch the video. #SketchNotes were made available to get ideas, but I made a goal to try.#CollaborativePD

A5: I would like to see Genius Hour brought to Professional Learning. Challenge every educator to deliver a short module on their passion in education. You can use @Schoology or LMS to create a wealth of resources. #FlippedPD#CollaborativePD Maybe a #FlipgridFever challenge?
