I’m Heather, I am a graduate student at Gannon and I am a site director for an extended school say program in Eric’s public schools! Excited for my first Ed chat #satchat#40CF
Good morning -- Dennis -- Middle School Principal from Long Island, NY. Just got the new @4OClockFaculty book, @RACzyz, looking forward to reading it! #satchat
The best PD I’ve ever been a part of was a workshop in close reading of informational texts for younger elementary students. It was meaningful because of the hands-on practice we engaged in. #satchat#40CF
G'morning.
Science teacher from New Jersey, still stunned by joy from #educon, and if not on my best behavior today, gonna lay blame/credit on @educonphilly students.
I thought I knew what agency was--and I was wrong.
#satchat
It’s funny the Left considered the memo, which went through all proper channels, a threat to democracy, but they sure do love unsourced classified leaks that wapo and the Times shovel out constantly.
#SaturdayMorning#satchat#MAGA
A1: The best PD I ever attended was a session on
#edtech. The session was hands-on, engaging, interactive, and built in reflection. It left us with extra resources, examples, and more members of our #PLN.
#satchat#4OCF
A1: The best PD sessions I've attended gave participants time to process what we learned, ask questions, and then apply it to our own classrooms. Anytime I can walk away with something I can use, that's successful PD in my book! #satchat
Greetings, #satchat. Ken G. from Boston. I create content, conversation, and community for @_Continuum. Hmm... that's a lot of Cs. Is there any extra credit I can do to get a B-?
A1: The best PD hasn't been a single session for me, it's occurred when I collaborated with my colleagues and gained a new lesson, pedagogy or tool 'just in time' to benefit my students.
#satchat
A1: Been to so many good PD. The best ones allow for participant collaboration about relevant topics. Also participants were vested in the process so PD was productive #Satchat
I’m Heather, I am a graduate student at Gannon and I am a site director for an extended school say program in Eric’s public schools! Excited for my first Ed chat #satchat#40CF
A1: Went to one by Time Ed that gave me lots of awesome resources to use immediately in my next lessons. It got Ts involved in the activities for the Ss so they could effectively explain and model them. #satchat
The most meaningful professional learning experiences are those in which we can interact, share, and collaborate. The learning may start there, but to doesn't stop. #satchat
Thanks Tim - I loved being there and connecting formally and informally .. great work going on in NJ and committed Educators like you making it happen #satchat
A1: The best PD I ever attended as a teacher was the project based learning PD for @AsiaSociety it transformed my thinking about how students in my classroom learned and I started teaching everything with a project approach. #satchat
A1: best PD I’ve ever attended was any session that gave me actionable strategies to use with my students right away. Any time I learn I s a great Pd #satchat
A1 Some of the best PD I’ve attended has been outside the field of education. Attending #ACT, #RFT, and #CFT workshops designed for psychologists meant I had to think critically and creatively about how I might apply and adapt the learning to my practice.
#satchat
Morning #SatChat. Debbi HS Technology from NJ.
Lets start with @steelers are the best franchise in NFL history with 6 Superbowl rings. #FactsMatter
Then I'll say best PD is Twitter Chats:)
A1 @burgessdave came to our district and we still talk about him and his impact on our staff. Love getting involved and not just sitting and getting. #satchat
Great week! We celebrated Groundhog Day in our Kinder class yesterday! So much fun...made tunnels and a burrow out of blankets, tables and a tent. 😊 #Satchat
A1: Lots of great PD. A memorable one for me is @Catlin_Tuckerhttps://t.co/xaKyEpzlgj Blended Learning sessions provide lots of takeaway because she models the method during her PD and shares tons of resources. #satchat
One of the best PD sessions was delivered by @MatthewFarber on the use of games in the classroom. Spurred thought in me and he also demonstrated a game and how it could be used in discussion #satchat
A1: Best PD were Lab Cohort classes with colleagues. Watching instruction with focus areas, debriefing over an afternoon and then building action plans. We would then reconvene several weeks later to dialogue. We work and serve with experts everday!! #satchat
A1: Best PD I attended was my first year teaching Brian Mendler. The workshop topic was motivating disruptive students. I still use the strategies 12 year later and they are still effective. #SatChat
A1 Considering the Steelers have 6 wins, rings...🏉😁 I’m going to say the best PD is when I am collaborating working with others, sharing ideas. Not just a sit and get!! #satchat
A1: our AP designed an institute day that was run like an edu conference where everyone got to pick out the sessions they wanted to attend, and all sessions were created and run by other teachers in the school! It was creative, fun, and really engaging! #satchat
A1: best #PD is relevant, collaborative, hands-on, open discussions, walking away with actionable items, new learning & reflective. #satchat@RACzyz@ScottRRocco
A1 best PD has been w/@columbusmuseum centering on growing creative thinkers. It has been powerful because it is PD @ every child’s strength and crosses all disciplines & ages. Everyone has a voice at this PD session. @YongZhaoEd#satchat
NISL training (National Institute for School Leadership) that took place over 1.5 years, deep conversation, application and action plans. Not a one day wonder. #satchat
A1 My best PD was a hands-on tech tools session. How better to learn than by doing! My Professional Development page https://t.co/EYf2WP39Rn Now great PD is the #edcamp model of, by and for the participants. #satchat#edtechchat#edchat
REPOST OF Q1 #satchat
Q1: The Patriots have become one of the BEST Football Franchises ever with 5 Super Bowl victories. What is the BEST PD session you’ve ever attended? What allowed for meaningful learning to take place? #satchat#4OCF
A1: I can’t think of the best one but when I go to PD sessions the good ones allow me discuss with others to get ideas, provides practical ideas, and the presenter INSPIRES! #satchat
The best PD I have had is through @participate. I chose the pathway for learning. It was on my own time, connected me to others, relevant for my goals, and provided me with the resources I needed. #StickWithParticipate#TeachSDGs#satchat
About 20 years ago, someone taught a group of English #teachers how to use Focus Correcting, which to this day is one of the most powerful lessons ever. It' showed me how to focus on what matters in writing and projects. #satchat
A1: Best PD ever came from staff at Joyce Kilmer MS in Trenton - their passion for kids was palpable and their ideas for student activism were inspiring #satchat#4OCF
#satchat Best PD I have ever had is personalized PD. Choice and voice. Time for schools to move away from one-for-all watered down PD. Anything that helps me move towards mastery specific to my discipline and teaching levels.
A1: best #PD is relevant, collaborative, hands-on, open discussions, walking away with actionable items, new learning & reflective. #satchat@RACzyz@ScottRRocco
A1. Our team attended one of Ron Clark's presentations and followed this up with a book study back at "the ranch" then set goals with many of the concepts. #satchat
A1: My best PD as a principal was when I developed an action plan based on Next Generation Learning practices for my building and then received the opportunity to obtain funding to implement the action plan. #satchat
#satchat A1. The best PD I have been a part of are the EdCamps I have attended - T's helping T's, talking, learning together...both in Ohio while I was there and now in Montana.
A1: when I learned to use Quality Learning tools to help find solutions to problems. The learning gave us tools to use & when to use them. They are easy to model & lead to solving problems. Still use the tools & training was over 8 years ago #satchat
Q1-I would have to say the best I ever attended was a teaching writing workshop. Meaningful learning occurred because the presenter modeled, it was tailored to our specific needs, and the session was collaborative which allowed teachers to share ideas . #satchat
A1 The BEST PD I ever attended was one looking at the disparity between teacher eval scores and standardized test scores. What made it so great was the way it was presented. It was done in a way where teachers were not put on defense and it was very interactive. #satchat#4OCF
A1 best PD takes me to a place where I can make something happen immediately for learning transferand I have a collab partner on journey with me to reflect with #satchat
A1: I enjoyed @Arsant10 PD session on Mindfulness & Design Thinking at @ECET2NJPA this past fall. It was relatable, practical, & gave ample demonstrations. #satchat
A1: I can’t pick a specific one. But in general, I love edcamps. Authentic learning from peers, and a great way to sample new things! Sadly missing @EdCampBlitz today #satchat
A1: My best PD as a principal was when I developed an action plan based on Next Generation Learning practices for my building and then received the opportunity to obtain funding to implement the action plan. #satchat
A1 Truthfully, it was an in-house session on #activelearning strategies where the presented engaged the staff the way students would be. Made me want to back in time as a teacher. Made learning so much fun #satchat
Good Morning #satchat A1: The best PD I have been in addresses a very narrow focus and is target to an area of need for me. Usually in a smaller group.
A1: The best I've every participated in was a full week deep dive into a topic... research meets real life... where you come away with a full plan and feel secure enough in the new learning that you're 100% ready to implement. #satchat
A1: Focus Correction Areas are set with assignment guidelines (think rubric but much better). You show kids precisely what to focus their work on, mostly ignoring other things you might typically grade. Foundation of impactful assessment.
#satchat
A1 Best PD was put on by @SpaceLabCO where I took on a Design Thinking project that was my choice. I was give time, tools, and support, but the learning was for me. I’m Ann from Colorado Springs, 5th gr. #satchat
A1: Recently had the chance for quick Pop of PD with our awesome instructional coach @McManimonS It was one on one, relevant, quickly adaptable to class, and we did it over lunch. #satchat
A1 (Steelers are better, just sayin ) Best PD was @WISSIT_DC . Not a single session, but meaningful all the same. We have time to explore what interested us and talk about it with our peers and with people who had been there before #satchat
#ptcamp a 6 week book study connecting people all over the country using Voxer. Many participants are still using the tool to connect today 3 years after the experience--on going PD 24/7/365 #satchat
Being a member of the @EdcampLI and @EdcampLdrNY planning team over the last five years has been a personal-professional game-changer for me. The learning is up to us! #satchat
A1: Best PDs I attended - when I worked w/ ppl who were just as passionate (or more than), working on the same goals, & a change of heart (mindset) after attending. They were meaningful bc I was open to try new things, & I was willing to listen. #satchat
A1: The best PD I went to was in Ohio! It allowed meaningful to take place by being with an open minded group who was always ready to learn more #satchat#barbersclass@barbersclass
A1 ~ Best PD - @beth_lakretz Training on integrated co-teaching methods! It was so effective because Beth and her partners modeled the co-teaching strategies and they are easy to turn key! My district has also provided for follow up trainings... #satchat
A1. Another one three sessions Richard Allington presented decades ago when I needed to become a literacy leader - it sustained me years into the future!! #satchat
A1: Meaningful PD has to be purposeful PD. What makes it great is to allow it to be personalized, applicable, and ability to have follow through. #satchat
A1: I can’t pick a specific one. But in general, I love edcamps. Authentic learning from peers, and a great way to sample new things! Sadly missing @EdCampBlitz today #satchat
A1 the best PD experience was participating in National T Fellowships, the relationships were forged & transformational learning occurred. The best PD session was learning from a colleague because I could ask for help whenever I needed it @HopeStreetGroup@AAEdVoice#satchat
A1: The best PD experience I’ve ever attended was by @EdcampNJ. It was awesome to be surrounded by so many motivated educators willing to share and learn! #satchat
A1 Best PD was put on by @SpaceLabCO where I took on a Design Thinking project that was my choice. I was give time, tools, and support, but the learning was for me. I’m Ann from Colorado Springs, 5th gr. #satchat
A1: Best PD ever to me is WdCamps. You’re around educators who are generally excited to be there, excited about what they want to do, are on fire for education, and want to change the world. That’s who I want to be around. Going to my 34th EdCamp this morning! #satchat
A1: Edcamp Wattsburg. We have had two so far in the last two years and I have walked away with so many great ideas and new information. It also was a great time to reflect on current teaching practices. @StephDeLuca16#satchat
A1 Best PD, hands-down, was "Science of Historic Preservation," by Save Ellis Island Fdn, National Park Service,Columbia Univ, & Georgian Court Univ. Science teachers analyzed south side hosp. buildings. Totally inquiry-based. Amazing! @Gooderg#satchat
OH OK. Thought is said best. My Bad:) Sorry.
Rooting for @Eagles to support a fellow educator @mrfieldmanchs who is an awesome contributor to our #BFC530 daily PD.
#satchat
A1: It was PD on intervention teams, and it was meaningful because they modeled meeting Ss basic human needs (connections, food, breaks) by allowing us the same. It showed us the importance of teaching the whole child. #satchat
A1: I teach @responsiveclass PD in the summers. I loved being a participant and I brought a lot back to my class... but teaching truly IS the best way to learn. Love learning from so many diff Ts across the country is amazing. #satchat
A1: Best PD...edutwitter discussions, offering global perspectives, great questions for discussion, international connections that can be sustained for years, with educators working at all levels. #satchat
Totally agree with you Jerry. Hands-on allows for more senses to involved in the process. #edcamp@EdcampUSA to is best PD I have ever attended. #satchat
A1: The best PD I attended was the 2018 SAS conference. @gcouros was awesome and the innovative ideas that presenters communicated were priceless.#satchat
A1 Best PD ever happened at 5 a.m. on Twitter--and then continued in a hotel lobby until it was time to go to some presentation somewhere. https://t.co/10Zz1kCfpQ#satchat
A1: My best PD experience has definitely been #USMSpark! Meeting and learning from my amazing PLN was an unforgettable experience! So blessed to be able to present this coming summer! #satchat
A2: Change the format, and give teachers choices. Allow the teacher leaders in the school to work with their colleagues. Make PD meaningful and relevant. #SatChat
The best PD session I have attended was was offered by the YWCA as a part of their Young Women with Bright Futures Program. In addition to begin introduced to a handful of individuals with similar passions, I also was given tools to reflect and learn more about myself. #satchat
To quote @ToddWhitaker: “Twitter is the best free PD for teachers I’ve ever seen.” It’s purposely designed for equity of voice and peer to peer interaction governed by the “rule of two feet.” #satchat
I suspect Comey will live to regret this outburst, full as it is of obvious exaggerations. And how, exactly, would the memo damage relations with the FISA court if the surveillance warrants were properly obtained?
A1: Best PD ever to me is EdCamps. You’re generally around teachers who want to be there, are excited about collaboration, are on fire do education, and who want to change the world. That’s who I want to be around. Going to my 34th EdCamp this morning. #satchat
A1: Best PD is the type when there is the ability to make choices for the needs of my classroom. Time to think, design, create, collaborate! Great recent PD #4OCF with @RACzyz and #ditchsummit with @jmattmiller #@AVID4College #satchat
We can change the fate of PD by continuing conversations about what has been meaningful for us and actively trying to apply what we learn after workshops. #satchat#40CF
Seeing other teachers teach and principals lead is very valuable... I often say that you can't understand a process or a philosophy until you see the environment in which it is being implemented effectively and envision how it can be adapted to work for you. #satchat
In reply to
@RalstonK, @donald_gately, @andyrgreene
Twitter animated a map for this teacher to show her students...
(Social Media multiplies. Good or bad, lots of people are going to see what you tweet.)
A1: late joining! Bridget from GA , 6th grade ELA. Hoping today will be my best PD @EdCamp_Forsyth! Prior times though, @rickwormeli2 sessions @AMLE (mind-changing) and almost daily here on @Twitter#satchat
A2: Get involved. If you want things to change and develop to fit Ts better, then help make that change. You don't get to complain about lack of change when you aren't doing anything to help it along. #satchat
a2| The best way to improve personal development, is to actually connect with those that are receiving it, all people don't connect with all trainers the same. #satchat
A1) one of the best PD I attended was conducted by @PrincipalKafele. We had an opportunity to share and discuss wins/losses with other colleagues from other school districts.#satchat
A1: Organized a mini #EdCamp last week for our staff. Staff embraced having a choice and great discussions were had. Feedback was very positive with requests to do it again. #satchat
Twitter animated a map for this teacher to show her students...
(Social Media multiplies. Good or bad, lots of people are going to see what you tweet.)
#SaturdayMorning#satchat This number has haunted me my whole life. I own this shit. This number was handwritten on my birth certificate & It has constantly popped up on me over & over again. Whatever it means...... I am 666.
A2: I think making sure you close the cycle of PD with follow-up, more practice, and monitoring. #satchat Even greatest session or training loses something without that.
A1 easily a staff day led by my curriculum coach. She started by goal setting and kept referring back as we planned for 2018. Then a month later Indy checked with all of us how it was going. #satchat
A2: PD can be changed first and foremost by giving teachers voice and choice. Eliminate all sit-and-get training in favor of interactive, hands-on workshops. Even think about PD for Ss, guardians & community.
#satchat#4OCF
Typically teacher inservice opening day speakers arent good. The 3 best who "got me pumped" for the new year were @jrochelle@burgessdave and @TeamCavuto all were encouraging, insightful, and made you feel great about being a teacher #satchat
A1: Bi-annual "sharing symposium" at my previous school. Ts prepare 15-minute sessions, other Ts choose 3 to attend. Bite-size, timely, actionable, relevant. Avoids "that won't work here" - it IS working here. #satchat
A2: PD is a continuous journey. If you're really trying to be great, you continue to learn daily and look at every interaction as a learning opportunity #mindset#satchat
A2: We can change the fate of PD by determining what the needs are and following through after the PD. Periodically reflecting on what works and what needs changing, so that it's appropriate and continuous. #satchat
#satchat A2. Everyone walks away with something they can use for professional practice and/or instruction. A strategy, how to use technology, reflection on a professional article or data.
A1: Best PD I get remains casual get togethers at a local pub with teachers who love teaching. Best formal PD was last week, at #educon, hosted and run by students and their families, focusing on conversations that matter. #satchat
A2: To change the fate of PD, we need to create a community of adult learners who want to expand their practices. Starts with leadership modeling. #satchat#4OCF
A2: Phase out the same old PDs that you see every time there is a conference of PD day in your district. Listen to your team and co-workers to see what they need and then build from there. Gather resources to share. Present the ideas. #satchat
A1: I’d have to say it’s a tough toss up between @marcbrackett ‘s incredible research and sense of humor, and @burgessdave ‘s pure energy and “real life” tales & ideas from the trenches #satchat
Step Dill from CO. This schoil year i attened Orton-Gillingham IMSE and my first ever #edtech. So much powerful learning in both that has changed me and better supported my Ss. #satchat
A2: We constantly talk about personalizing learning for Ss and giving them voice & choice. We must do the same for Ts- voice & choice, personalization, innovative approaches to PD. Also need it to be easily accessible- less structured. #satchat
A2: Keep pushing/searching for learning that is relevant to YOU! Talk with admin, if they aren't open, Go ROUGE with willing people in building; if no one will join, come to Twitter to find your PLN #4OCF#satchat
#satchat Start small with the early adopters and make some noise. Show your work. Energize the base. Change in big systems is hard and needs to be evidence-based.
REPOST OF Q2 - #SATCHAT
Q2: The Eagles can change the FATE of their Franchise with their first ever Super Bowl victory. How can we change the FATE of PD in 2018? #satchat#4OCF
A2: Think differently, and then do differently. Follow others for ideas. Listen to the naysayers, but don’t let them drive your decisions. #4OCF#satchat
Q2: we can change the fate of PD by building choice and differentiation in - not a one size fits all approach - with actionable outcomes made explicit goal = impact #SatChat
A2: PD should lead to action, not just creating memories. PD in 2018 should help innovate how teachers teach & students learn.
$$$ worth of PD just gets filed away in notepads & bookshelves.
#satchat
Another good barometer is how eager educators are to get back to their classroom because they are already thinking about how this is relevant for their own students #satchat
A2: students are at the forefront of every decision. Change the fate of PD by asking, “how does this PD relate to the need we’re seeing in our students?” #satchat
A2 Offer personalized PD!! Make it meaningful, give the why, allow others to share their knowledge, passion! PD needs to match specific learner needs, not a one size fits all!! #satchat
A2: We need to do what we can to own it. If the PD we’re getting isn’t working, we can roll our eyes from the back row and complain to colleagues at lunch, or we can step in, get involved, and help make PD better. #satchat
A2 we can change the fate by encouraging more teachers to participate in PD that takes them out of their comfort zone take risk, learn new things #satchat
FOR #GAFEFSUMAVA
Q2: The Eagles can change the FATE of their Franchise with their first ever Super Bowl victory. How can we change the FATE of PD in 2018? #satchat#4OCF
#satchat#40CF I think we can change the fate of PD in 2018 by allowing Ts to have more choice (we want to be surrounded by Ts who want to be there!), ensuring PD sessions are organized, inspiring, applicable, refreshing and energizing!
A2: We can change the fate of PD by encouraging colleagues to attend great PDs with us, and by being brave to advocate and even lead amazing PD sessions ourselves! #satchat
A1 pt2 I know el.ed. teacher and their least fav are when 'experts' come and model teach a lesson. Always ends with "well, if we had more time..." There is never more time... #satchat
A2: It's imperative to not only change WHAT we focus PD on (same thing every year) but HOW it's delivered. It needs to be interactive, relevant, allow for innovation/creativity, be engaging, and encompass the practices that we expect from our Ts in the classrooms. #satchat
A2: by working towards positive change. Doesn't happen overnight but this year we have had 2 division PD days driven by teacher interest in an Edcamp format that I helped organize because of #4OCF and the lessons I learned reading it. #satchat
A2 By being involved, vocal, and frequent contributors to PD! Share what we know, learn from others, and constantly encouraging others to participate along with us #satchat
A2: PD rarely has a follow-up component... Ts need a chance to reflect and discuss what they've taken away from a PD session after they've tried implementing a new idea #satchat
A2: The fate of PD is in the hands of each of us... Understanding that profession development is part of a personal journey seeking excellence. In my role I have to keep asking reflective questions, listening to staff, and pushing them to opportunities. #satchat
A1.2: And the best part (for me) was spending an afternoon given free rein while school was in session. If you want to know what makes SLA work, take a peek at @TheJLV's take:
https://t.co/gCbD0lM1fK#satchat
A2 We've been working on personalized weekly PD with our staff. We've faced some hurdles, but it's finally working. Ts of all levels sharing ideas, working together, choosing their PD focus #satchat
Q2: Personalize for what people need/want, ask their input as to what would be meaningful. Stop this one size fits all approach. Make sure it’s not sit and get but a collaborative experience and people get useful tools they can apply. #satchat
A2: If you are a leader, truly listen to the needs of your school or organization. Trust your people and develop a personalized plan that will impact student learning, growth and support. Harness technologies and networks to creatively connect to their needs! #satchat
A2: By making it timely and relevant to the long range mission and goals of a district. Teacher choice is important and collecting and responding to feedback as well as monitoring/follow up can change the fate of PD. #satchat
A2: Ask your teachers to create PD boards & have them work on them throughout the year. Make it fun & have small prizes (friendly competition). Here is an example: 👇 #satchat
A2: Changing PD is so easy, but as we say in #HackLearning, often the simplest answers are overlooked.
Admin must stop deciding what is best for #teachers and involve them in the process. Ask, "What would you like to learn, and how do you want to learn it?"
#satchat
A2- leaders change the fate of PD by giving teachers a safe place to admit where they need help. Embrace vulnerability and learn next to them. #satchat
I like that. What about matching teachers into groups of two or three and tasking them with personalizing it, together, for each other? Build lots of PD Collaboratives. #satchat#thistimeitspersonal
A2: To change the fate of PD, we need to create a community of adult learners who want to expand their practices. Starts with leadership modeling. #satchat#4OCF
Allow teachers to choose personal learning targets that connect to bldg goals AND that will directly impact their students. ...and then be the guide on the side (find resources, connect to experts, remove roadblocks & distractions). #satchat#FlyEaglesFly
A2 Encourage & validate non-traditonal sit and get PD. Twitter chats have been invaluable to me, reading books, etc. State's where you need continuing hours should recognize these practices #satchat
A2: Start a schoolwide or district or diocesan hashtag (like #12daysTwitter), and run a Twitter slowchat for teachers with one new question a day to show off the PD power of Twitter while teachers connect. Help then learn the platform as through the chat over time. #satchat
A2: our admin has offered choice boards for personalized learning PD this year - it’s been great. The one miss has been face-to-face sharing and mind-sparking. Our district chat has been phenomenal, wish I could get more of our T on it #weeklylearning#forsythPLN#satchat
A2: No longer sit and get. Create a community of adult learners who seek learning opportunities from each other. Provide choice in PD w/ a variety of modes to get there. #satchat
I love Twitter, having a hard time keeping up with Voxer. I often participate in chats while my family is watching TV, so I can't listen to anything and still be "hanging with them". #satchat
#satchat Thank you! We can change the fate of PD by making it relevant, flexible, and filled with possibilties for working beyond our team and content area! But please keep the food!
A2: By designing PD for our building or district that is relevant and engaging. #4OCF does have great ideas, and so do your Ts. Tap in to those. Create #EDCamp style sessions, pick a theme, incorporate great snacks & fun atmosphere. #satchat
If you have Verizon, they’re giving users $10 to donate to a #donorschoose project of your choice. Get on your account and claim the reward this month! #satchat#edchat#leadupchat#tlap
A2: Flip the learning; let the Teachers lead PD, utilize small group rotations that are focused around the vision or theme of the year. Make it personal and purposeful #Satchat
A2 PD needs to be applicable to the classroom and each classroom is different b/c Ts have different needs. Doesn’t mean every single T *has* to have own PD (I do think they have a responsibility to further their own growth too) but stop w/ same old info I don’t need #satchat
I like that. What about matching teachers into groups of two or three and tasking them with personalizing it, together, for each other? Build lots of PD Collaboratives. #satchat#thistimeitspersonal
A2) change the fate of PD by giving participants more ownership of their learning & differentiating whenever possible. Learner Agency & Voice is vital #SATCHAT
A2 We can change the fate of PD by stepping up as a leader and continuing to model as a participant. @TheBradCurrie nited the important of being a participant in his latest blog post! https://t.co/WhhHXDpSgr#Satchat
I think the EdCamp format provides so much ownership for the participants and learning occurs organically. It is really effective for all participants. #satchat
A1 Be the change! In our district, we started @NacleEdCamp because we want to show educators in our area to have more opportunities for authentic meaningful learning! #satchat#4OCF
That really was the game changer for me! I have always been okay taking some risks, but having "permission" from my admin and more experienced made all the difference #satchat
A2 We can change how we deliver PD in 2018!Use non-traditional methods and learn about new things! A webinar about mindfulness, or a Twitter chat about self-care for teachers. So many possibilities! #satchat
A2: Changing the fate of PD in 2018 requires us to BE THE CHANGE we want to see and experience. We must own the kind of learning opportunities we believe are best for our needs. #satchat
Absolutely. I love PDs that do a feedback form of some sort. I do it when I present. I want to know if I did not touch on something or if there are other ideas that I can take back to my class/school. #satchat
A2: By seeking to learn anywhere, at anytime. Stop blaming others or thinking learning only takes place on District PD days. In our connected world, why do we continue to complain and demand of others, when we ultimately hold the power to grow. #satchat#JustDoIt
A2 I thin we have changed the fate of PD ... simply by being here chatting #satchat ... teachers have started a PD Revolution by not having to rely on the district teet for information or knowledge.
A2: Ask your teachers to create PD boards & have them work on them throughout the year. Make it fun & have small prizes (friendly competition). Here is an example: 👇 #satchat
A2 Personalize PD & make it joyfully engaging & meaningful for teachers. We've had pop-up PDs monthly led by teachers & we learn so much from each other. #Proud2BMillstone@MillstoneElemen#satchat
A2 ~ I am trying to implement PD into my department meetings, limiting the time we spend on the logistics of running the dept & trying to provide opportunities for the adults to learn from one another! Also, our district has moved to T choice for mandated PD hours! #satchat
A2: I would say that you need to make sure you are giving feedback after each PD and that you are getting involved in helping to plan or support the PD's within the district. This is a great way to help with specific changes or ways to grow/develop. #satchat
The best way to use @Voxer, I think, is to create a small group of like-minded people and just talk openly about what you do and/or what you need to learn or improve. Keep it informal. Chat while driving or sitting in a waiting room. #satchat
A2: Outside speakers are awesome & often provide important perspectives/inspiration, but remember that every school is filled with experts & innovators behind our classroom doors every day! Anyone in the school- yes even Ss-can provide powerful PD #satchat
Create varied opportunities for meaningful engagement. Model the way learning can happen. And resist the urge to prescribe every aspect, before and after. #satchat
A2.2- Ts know their Ss and their learning encironments best- we need to trust in their ability to assess PD needs and empower them to seek out the most appropriate opportunities. #satchat
A2 Teacher PD should not be a horse & pony show so a district can say "Look what we did", it should be relevant, effective, and purposeful to those in attendance. One size fits all rarely achieves all of those points #satchat
A2: Yes! There’s a teacher shortage, & we wonder why? Changing PD would help some of that! I asked to meet with one of our district leaders bc I have so many ideas regarding PD, and hopefully we can make some things happen. Teachers need to speak up! #satchat
A2: PD can be changed first and foremost by giving teachers voice and choice. Eliminate all sit-and-get training in favor of interactive, hands-on workshops. Even think about PD for Ss, guardians & community.
#satchat#4OCF
2A) It involves a) taking a risk to do something different b) a readiness to "change the lens" - Through data, has the need been idenfitied? Have you asked how has that need been identified to do the above? #satchat
A2 Pd @ thinking! not content, data or ss deficiencies. Pd should focus on strengths of children & how to build on them. Not how to fix ss. Start w/PD on how to grow ss creative capacities. Pd where every ts has a voice. #satchat

A2: yes and it’s happening now with choice, voice and multiple opportunities through different resources on and offline #4OCF#satchat WE all OWN our PD
A2 We change the fate of PD when we change its delivery and application. We have to transition from just receiving PD to actively participating, questioning, and revising these learning sessions, so they readily apply to our daily work. #satchat
A2 PD should more often be in the PBL model where teachers are asked/challenged to create something and the facilitator helps coach and thought partner through the lens of inquiry. #satchat
Yes, we must participate & model what we expect from our teachers. Show them during the PD sessions HOW to implement things in the classroom. We are learning then having an instructional strategy challenge every wk then Ts get to share out! It's becoming competitive! #satchat
#satchat Q1: The Patriots have become one of the BEST Football Franchises ever with 5 Super Bowl victories. What is the BEST PD session you’ve ever attended? #satchat
A1: I loved the #edcamp model and obviously #gafefsu#gafefsuclasses w/ @csheil
A2) we have to create opportunities for staff to have collegial conversations, which will open a greater chance of engagement and excitement. More of our teachers leading PD.#satchat
A2: I am trying to change the fate of PD by encouraging others to share! I am using my prep to go in other rooms and tweet out the amazing things happening. It is a slow step but crucial for them to see the benefits. #satchat
A2 We tell teachers to design their instruction around what we want s to know and be able to do. PD should do the same. Make connections to T evaluation standards. Get after what GREAT instruction looks like in your building and get after it #satchat
It makes no sense to WE THE PEOPLE looking at THEY the republicans and trump and wonder why they are so hell bent on compromising US national Security to score few political points. Protect America republicans, not Russia lol. #YoMemoJokes#SaturdayMorning#satchat
I collaborate with #HackLearning team members on Voxer, and it's amazing how productive we are. The idea for the series was hatched in a few @voxer conversations. Three years later, we have 15 books (#16 coming very soon). #satchat
A2 we talk about Student centered design, well teachers are students of PD so make it teacher centered, driven by their needs & voices It’s OUR profession so we should be the ones to Develop it, #satchat
Good morning from Mt. Vernon, IL! A1: My favorite PD is the Illinois Reading Conference. Authors, teachers, & lots of choice of high quality, applicable content. #satchat
A2 We change the fate of PD when we change its delivery and application. We have to transition from just receiving PD to actively participating, questioning, and revising these learning sessions, so they readily apply to our daily work. #satchat
A2: A lot of administrator fall victim to low expectations for teachers (ie. If we give teachers too much freedom, they’ll just online shop the whole time) Give Ts autonomy and see how they’ll amaze you!! It’s a foundation of good leadership. #satchat
A2- Continue to look for ways for self improvement. If you seen an opportunity, go for it. Put yourself in the position to learn and improve. #satchat#4OCF#barbersclass
A2: End "one-and-done," "sit-and-get," and "one-size-fits-all." Build on strengths. Give choice. Follow up and push. Model good instructional strategies. #satchat
Problem with education system is unequal funding of public schools based off property tax zip codes, promoting inequality. Republican philosophy of punishing poor performing schools funding rather than reorganizing and investing in technology & teachers dooms our system #satchat
A2 in addition other ways for PD book studies with @voxer@Twitter chats. Think differently on PD, so many other ways to learn and grown then the traditional ways!! #satchat
A2: Visit other schools, businesses, and organizations to view what they are doing- stop blaming problems and start seeking/suggesting solutions #satchat
A3: Time is teacher's most valuable resource. A school needs to have laser focused clarity on what student learning SHOULD look like in order to take away any initiatives & meetings that don't help teachers create that type of learning.
#satchat
A2
1. Ask what they want
2. Ask what they need
3. Don't chase the latest trend
4. Tech is a tool,not a solution
5. I'm a professional and dont need a motivational speaker

#satchat
Agree, Rich. We have the responsibility to plot our own professional development plan, engage in the learning process, apply the learning to our work, and share with others to support their practice #satchat
Agree! I have always said I am more willing to listen to the expert who walks the same halls as me than an outside expert. The in house expert not only provides an opportunity to see their thoughts in action but a continuing easily accessible resource #satchat
A2: Outside speakers are awesome & often provide important perspectives/inspiration, but remember that every school is filled with experts & innovators behind our classroom doors every day! Anyone in the school- yes even Ss-can provide powerful PD #satchat
Micromanagement and packaged systems halter growth. The way to lead is to learn and the way to learn is from others. I learn as much if not more from those instances where I give my teachers the freedom to try something new!#satchat t
Mother of MS-13 victim on Dems sitting at SOTU: "They just don't understand the pain of a parent losing their child to this gang violence, and I hope they never will." @IngrahamAnglehttps://t.co/QJ3OKq7YwW
It should be based on reality too and practice. Sometimes PD is practices that look good on paper and you’re wondering how does/can this work in classroom with x-y-z which then becomes worse when no one can answer that #satchat
A3: Gaining more time for PD is possible though flipping portions of the PD through video, screencasting, @Flipgrid, digital discussions, and more. Let the time together be spent completely on interactive pieces as a whole community.
#satchat#4OCF
A3 Trying to find that balance is always hard but sometimes you need to make sacrifices and give up a tv show or going out to movie to find more time. #satchat
#satchat A3. Business type information that can be shared in another manner....flip the meeting with those items made in video announcement, an email, a newsletter....make the PD about adult learners walking away with tools to increase student learning and engagement.
Professional learning for teachers can build relationships between Ts and Ss. Engaging with #edtech. Sharing of new ideas. Teachers choosing their own path. #satchat
A2: Ask your teachers to create PD boards & have them work on them throughout the year. Make it fun & have small prizes (friendly competition). Here is an example: 👇 #satchat
A3- create a weekly e-blast to keep everyone up to date on what is happening, new initiatives, etc. Make #facultymeetings 1 hr of valuable PD. #satchat
REPOST OF #satchat Q3:
Q3: TIME Management might be the key to victory in Sunday’s Game. What activities can you take OFF of the table to make more TIME for meaningful PD? #satchat#4OCF

A3. "I don't have time" is the adult version of "the dog ate my homework." You find the time for the things in life that are important to you. #satchat
the problem in education is that we keep looking to someone else to provide us the answer when we should find our answer on our own ... we are what we complain about in our kids "They always want me to give them the answer." #satchat
A3 Make data more accessible so less time's spent acquiring it & more time on planning. Lots of programs out there. We use @eduCLIMBERcom, Also if it doesn't impact instruction just get rid of it! #satchat
A3 We can replace one-off PD days with meaningful, coherent PD units. We can use essential questions to focus and align PD, the same way we use them to focus and align curriculum for students. Here’s what that could look like: https://t.co/3xO8C5atrM#satchat
A3: Many things can be automated or facilitated through tech to free up time for other learning:
planning, repetitive processes, communication, etc Use tech to ease and create efficiencies #Satchat
A3: That’s the first excuse we hear. “I don’t have enough time.” We do need to take things off Ts plates, but we also need to simply make time for new ideas, knowing that they will eventually save us time if we implement them properly. #satchat
A2: First, we change PD by recognizing that it's one of the few times teachers get to live outside a schedule set in concrete. My favorite PDs featured lunch outside of a school building with the presenter(s). Treat teachers like professionals and we'll work harder #satchat
The question about time management is really interesting because it’s hard for me to notice how I’m wasting my time! I think it’s more about committing to engaging in PD. #satchat#40CF
A2: Using the staff in your building to share what they’re doing is a powerful way to change the fate of PD. It’s relevant, powerful, and teachers trust their colleagues. Also, knowing a colleague has tried something and it worked encourages others to take risks. #satchat
A3 take time off by attending meetings that could be an email, and staying focused during my conference time, don't get sucked into the negative zone at the copy machine #satchat
#satchat As someone that delivers PD, I try to infuse examples from my experience to engage participants. I try to give them tools they can incorporate into their classroom tomorrow.
A3: I don't feel something has to necessarily has to come OFF the table but administrators need to recognize everyone's table looks different and therefore the PD needs are different. #satchat
A3 - we try to do all of our compliance PD at the start of the year w/online tutorials. They can be done at any time, leaves room for real PD work. #satchat
A2: Thinking outside the box to develop new forms of PD. Providing choice is what Ts are asking for. Also, modeling personal PD through twitter chats and getting ideas from hashtags like #4OCF#satchat
A3: Time is precious- flipped faculty meetings, virtual department meetings, training Ts in leveraging Google (and other) tools to maximize workflows will all free up time for more meaningful PD opportunities. #satchat
A3: I have cancelled the May faculty meeting in lieu of teachers conducting “Learning Walks!”They just have to visit two teachers and tell them what they like about their class! Last year, many watched 3 or 4 of their colleagues teach! #betteruseoftime#satchat
Funny you say that! This week for #EPNOh I am going to ask that participants share a resource that has helped them to organize their approach to creating educational pathways. I love seeing what tools work for others and learning from them, making them my own. #satchat
A3 Less meetings! Stick to agenda meetings! Action orientated meetings! Shorter meetings where you can get up and go as soon as the agenda is over! #satchat
EXACTLY! Just a check ✅ and then wonder why aren’t Ts doing this...we had a PD about it. I think involvement (in many ways) from Ts is important #satchat
REPOST OF #satchat Q3:
Q3: TIME Management might be the key to victory in Sunday’s Game. What activities can you take OFF of the table to make more TIME for meaningful PD? #satchat#4OCF
Looking for all the questions from today's chat? Click here: https://t.co/K84yty7NR3
A3 Take off the table all the minutes shared gushing over each other, which some take as having a captive audience. Instead, set up a Padlet or the like. #satchat
A1: Our @NCCVoTech Tech conference. Not only the focus but the amount of Ts hosting sessions that opened many of our eyes to the incredible work being done for our Ss. @terrivilla2#satchat
A3: talk of meetings that share things that could be emailed...and don’t hold PD just because, if not valuable engaging purpose you are wasting others time #satchat
A3: tough question for this crowd as we are clearly prioritizing PD by participating in this chat , #edcamp, #coffeeEdu, etc. - for others maybe just building it into schedule, maybe a little less TV? #satchat
A2: Second, encourage teachers to dress comfortably. For some reason, wearing jeans makes teachers happy. When I facilitate PD, I encourage it. #satchat
A3- create a weekly e-blast to keep everyone up to date on what is happening, new initiatives, etc. Make #facultymeetings 1 hr of valuable PD. #satchat
A2: Outside speakers are awesome & often provide important perspectives/inspiration, but remember that every school is filled with experts & innovators behind our classroom doors every day! Anyone in the school- yes even Ss-can provide powerful PD #satchat
Boom! Too many leaders don’t display the trust in their staff to do this. We need to model personal learning as leaders & celebrate the educators who do it well so others can see what it looks like #satchat
A3. "I don't have time" is the adult version of "the dog ate my homework." You find the time for the things in life that are important to you. #satchat
A3: Some routine training and information dissemination can be flipped. Ask Ts to read an email or watch a video about safety training etc and respond or acknowledge receipt. #satchat
A3: To make time more meaningful in PD you can share resources. Therefore everyone can be engaged while together and still can go home and think about it #satchat@barbersclass#barbersclass
Q3-It’s imperative to be reflective frequently and eliminate activities (busy work) that don’t promote teacher/student growth and achievement. #satchat
A2: Start a schoolwide or district or diocesan hashtag (like #12daysTwitter), and run a Twitter slowchat for teachers with one new question a day to show off the PD power of Twitter while teachers connect. Help then learn the platform as through the chat over time. #satchat
One way to get creative is learning partners. Make sure they have opposite planning times. At least every other week, they commit to 1 day where they visit each other. Debrief after school. #satchat
#satchat A3 We brought in food trucks for an amazing PD a few years ago; it is amazing the collaboration that coccurred over lunch that day. Not driving somewhere for lunch gave us so much more time to communicate and plan.
A3 Less meetings! Stick to agenda meetings! Action orientated meetings! Shorter meetings where you can get up and go as soon as the agenda is over! #satchat
Q3: Removing nuts and bolts from staff meetings is imperative. Put information into weekly staff communications, use video to communicate, etc. This allows for dialogue and growth with the people serving students in the classroom. Time together is the resource!! #satchat
A3: Exploing meaningful PD through PLN's in the comfort of your own home. With a busy work day, kids, and my own schooling, the opportunity to grow from home is essential! #satchat
A3- create a weekly e-blast to keep everyone up to date on what is happening, new initiatives, etc. Make #facultymeetings 1 hr of valuable PD. #satchat
A2: By engaging peers and designing PD experiences that allow for choice, collaboration, and creativity! Use twitter chats for books studies, design an #edcamp! Do an #coffeeedu#pottypd Read #4OCF#satchat
A3: Requiring 1x a week grade level collaboration meetings during teacher prep time. This is a great way to catch up on important things, share information, collaborate with team, work on curriculum, PD training specific to grade level, etc. #satchat
A3 I think planning time can be better used. Often there are more social elements to areas people use for planning so just being purposeful in your planning time will save time. #satchat
A3: I have cancelled the May faculty meeting in lieu of teachers conducting “Learning Walks!”They just have to visit two teachers and tell them what they like about their class! Last year, many watched 3 or 4 of their colleagues teach! #betteruseoftime#satchat
A3: I believe that teachers tend to get stuck in the "This is how it has to be done" zone just because it was done that way before. As a leader I think it's important to identify the things your Ts are still doing that they no longer have to do and explain to them WHY. #satchat
#satchat I think somethings that can come off our list as educators are meetings where updates are just given out- if you’re reading off a paper save my time and email it to me.
A3) Wow, addition by subtraction 🤔 I feel Schools/Organizations need to focus on their goals & anything that is not aligned can be ➖ to allow more time to ➕ to Practices that will have an impact on teachers and students #satchat
A2: Seeing new initiatives in action can be a real eye/opener. Visiting other schools and classrooms is a great thing to do. Seeing is believing and it is powerful in getting buy-in from Faculty and staff. #satchat
A2: Visit other schools, businesses, and organizations to view what they are doing- stop blaming problems and start seeking/suggesting solutions #satchat
Agree! We need to see what others are doing so we can visualize what we can do in our environment. It may not be the same, but even a portion of change is good #satchat
A3 Housekeeping at faculty meetings or PD should be sent in an email or kept to a minimum and reading slides to people they can read for themselves too, Save your time for hands-on and discussions. #satchat
A3: Use a Staff Google Classroom for any and all updates, documents, forms that need to be completed - use tech to our advantage to free up time to meet face to face #satchat
How about a targeted community? Invite in an expert to interact with students about their projects, have sci students speak at an environmental organization meeting or submit a conference proposal. My 5th & 6th graders just presented at #ANJEE! #satchat
#satchat They say that we need to differentiate learning for students and less that 10% of time should be us...How about following that rule for faculty meetings. 90% meaningful interactions and discussions with our colleagues.
A3: I think if you frontload some of the information that you want teachers to process before the PD, it will help with the time management aspect. #satchat
A3. Do the prep work. Like a good lesson plan that invites inquiry and sets the table up for max involvement, get info, activities, and base ideas planted in your T’s world BEFORE you engage them in PD. They may just take things and run with them. #satchat
A3: PD doesn’t have to be just on half-days. Replacing faculty mtgs for a bite-size PD, or even visiting colleagues’ rooms via a #pineapplechart is still an opportunity for learning! #satchat
A3: Better questions....why are we still having these discussions in 2018 and still thinking low level? The world is drastically changing with AI, robotics potentially taking jobs and we are still talking about how practices that are out dated.... #satchat
A3: It is so hard to take away, but when you can, adding something new does become more palatable. #satchat Sometimes if you can make something more efficient, that also counts.
A2 loved watching teachers make for their classrooms earlier this year and learn Maker learning strategies for use w kids at same time — embedded prof learning #Satchat
don't use meeting time for information dissemination. make sure any time you have teachers f2f together you maximize the benefits of the space for them to collaborate & co-construct knowledge (vs. sit passively hearing updates) #satchat
A3: get rid of time wasters in your day, take advantage of tools to stay super productive, audio books, podcasts, voice notes, don’t have a meeting for an email #satchat#4OCF
Key point here, Rovez. We have a responsibility to create purposeful PD that is timely, effective, and meets the immediate needs of our team members #satchat
A3 Faculty Meetings can be split...first a short time for housekeeping and then time for PD. Keeps the ‘I just went to meeting that could have been an email’ to a minimum. #satchat#4OCF
I find it interesting that teachers who complain about NOT having PD ... usually done after school or weekends, but say "I don't have time to be on Twitter!" #satchat
We had a problem with this at first too - our personalized PD became too individual & Ts missed the sharing (even though we all meet in one place) We had to tweak it to make it work #satchat
A3: Better questions....why are we still having these discussions in 2018 and still thinking low level? The world is drastically changing with AI, robotics potentially taking jobs and we are still talking about how practices that are out dated.... #satchat
A3. We're looking to provide small opportunities for learning during the week. Techtuesday- bookstudy coffee. Keep looking to grow, learn. It is a mindset. #satchat
We did this once where I loaded the teachers with the items that could be covered in an email then sent a google form survey out so that I could get their feedback on the topic then focused on the things that they wanted & needed to know, not what I thought they needed. #satchat
A3 Time? This might be helpful. Reclaiming Your Day: 3 Simple Digital Efficiency Hacks For School Principals - TeachThought PD https://t.co/eZDLzKBioa#satchat
A3 have Ts use this time to visit their colleagues rooms to look at S work, share Anchor Charts, talk about best practices. Like ‘Share and Steals’ #satchat
A3: start using screencasts as leaders to share information w/ staff instead of calling meetings to read things to them. Use the time to showcase excellent instructional methods & innovative practices #satchat
A3: Use a Staff Google Classroom for any and all updates, documents, forms that need to be completed - use tech to our advantage to free up time to meet face to face #satchat
A3: I have cancelled the May faculty meeting in lieu of teachers conducting “Learning Walks!”They just have to visit two teachers and tell them what they like about their class! Last year, many watched 3 or 4 of their colleagues teach! #betteruseoftime#satchat
Agree 100%. Back to basics - teachers got into the profession to teach kids, so let them focus on and do that as much possible. Remove obstacles and streamline your organizational procedures. #satchat
Q3-It’s imperative to be reflective frequently and eliminate activities (busy work) that don’t promote teacher/student growth and achievement. #satchat
A3 mandated Meetings are an easy target, so many tasks are antiquated but time honors like HW. I stopped 3 years ago and get a lot more done without it, things like that can be reshaped or stopped to make better use of a precious commodity like time & energy #satchat
A3: Spouse time, baby time, family time, F2F time with friends, religious activities, holiday celebrations. Wait--Those would all be the wrong answers. #satchat#4OCF
A3: We have to “take off the table” anything that lends itself to a fixed mindset...life-long learning is a necessary reality. We can never think we know/understand/can already do enough! #satchat
Q3: I'm still trying to figure out how to "take off" things to do, but I do put the important things on my calendar. #satchat for instance, is an ongoing alarm every Saturday. Monday chats are on my calendar, like #tlap#learnlap#edtechchat#edtechafterdark
Chatting about students and PD using metaphor of Superbowl without acknowledging its indefensible damage to young men's brains is like discussing PD without acknowledging the indefensible damage our current systems incur on our students, particularly those of color. #satchat

An incredible memory ... thank you, @fablepaul.#satchat
A3: We give our student pre-assessments, and teach to their gaps. Why don't we do this for our teachers and principals in PDs? Why spend times repeating things they already know? I think this is often where negative attitudes towards PD comes from. #satchat
A3 principals such as @deninejones have flipped staff meetings to ongoing intentional teacher-owned PD time .. sch biz lives in a fab online space they’ve created in her school #satchat

A4: Ask what they want to learn about, with the understanding that what we want to learn about isn't always what we need to learn about. Mix the two appropriately. #satchat
A3- Stick to a schedule and allot myself more time to research techniques that could be beneficial in a potential classroom! #satchat#4OCF#barbersclass
A4: Poll the teachers. See what they are reading, are passionate about, and/or need for their students. See if they have something to share that has benefited them and have them present. #satchat

Q4: Fans can help carry their team to victory by being LOUD! How can we amplify Teacher VOICE & CHOICE when it comes to PD? #satchat#4OCF
Right, Jeremie. Investing in the preparation before the PD, ensures that we reach the desired impact of the sessions. Irresponsible preparation leads to wasted time and frustrated team members #satchat
#satchat A4 As with all things, our collective voices have an effect. When we stand together in reminding #administration that our choices matter, we have moved in the right direction.
Nope. But there's something so smart and motivational about going public with a project. Hard to forget that. #satchat Would a communal element make PD more compelling and effective? Maybe...

Yes! Visits have been a great learning experience for our district and our consortium @BeaverCountyILC . Visit #makerspaces and amazing libraries. Also engaging with companies like @Inventionland and @BoXZYcnc to learn and grow. #satchat
A2: Visit other schools, businesses, and organizations to view what they are doing- stop blaming problems and start seeking/suggesting solutions #satchat
A4: We could send a survey to determine their knowledge and what they want to learn. The key to this approach is listening to their answers and responding. Giving a survey and not following through with what they want and need is just a waste of time. #satchat
Great point; schools need to create a culture of high expectations coupled with championing forward progress. Change isn’t easy, but it is what is best for our students #Satchat
A3: Better questions....why are we still having these discussions in 2018 and still thinking low level? The world is drastically changing with AI, robotics potentially taking jobs and we are still talking about how practices that are out dated.... #satchat
A3 ~ Maximize time at Faculty & Dept mtgs. This year we have tried flipping our faculty meetings ~ sending out screencastify videos on impt managerial items and having Ts complete a google form after viewing the videos. This allows us to focus attention on instruction #satchat
Q4-A google form could give teachers an opportunity to determine areas that would like to grow in and PD could be aligned with the results. That’s giving teacher choice and voice. #satchat
A3:We need to get outside of thinking we need a set time & day where we all come together for the learning part. Offer choice: learn X from a video, an article, see it in practice, or come to a mini-lesson. Maybe the debrief/reflection/ questioning time is all together #satchat

A4: Ts should always have a voice in PD. Find out what they are curious about, what they need help with, what they would implement in their classrooms if they only had time to learn more about it. PD buy in goes way up if Ts are learning about topics they selected. #satchat
A3 We can replace one-off PD days with meaningful, coherent PD units. We can use essential questions to focus and align PD, the same way we use them to focus and align curriculum for students. Here’s what that could look like: https://t.co/3xO8C5atrM#satchat
A4: Twitter is the best for this! Share the great stuff going on! T's gravitate toward the good stuff, give them a reason to want to join in. As far as choice, I love the idea of using #Hyperdocs to allow T's to choose what they want to learn, or EdCamp style PD #satchat
. @EdcampUSA style PD is excellent. Ditto for providing significant time for peer-to-peer debrief after instructional rounds! And the @gatesed problem of practice protocol really helps minimize death by PowerPoint and keep participants at the center of the learning. #satchat
A4: Tip jars, Google Form surveys, Ts presenting to Ts...What about an admin & T panel to redefine what PD is and re-establishing the norms of acceptable PD..Twitter Chats? Micro-credentialing? #satchat
we have to teach them what they need/want ... not everyone is going to make videos, podcasts, code regardless of the PD being shoved down their throat ... and that doesn't make them bad teachers. #satchat
A4 When planning for the year be sure to ask what are the needs of your staff!! What do they want to learn, what are their passions!! Take time to invest and build relationships at the beginning and then tap into their strengths!! #satchat

A4: #EdCamps are an amazing way for teachers to take control of their learning! Since it is teacher driven they pick topics and where to go. They can utilize the rule of two feet and leave if it’s not what they need. @EdCampQC@EdcampMagic@EdcampUSA#satchat
A4 my teachers have loved “choose your own adventure PD” time. Our PD team designed several options, or a teacher could create their own and submit. #highengagement#satchat
A4: Need a venue for T voice & choice to be heard. We leverage #Googleclassroom for shared best practices and encourage/empower Ts to provide multi-week PD sessions for colleagues several times per year sharing best practices #satchat
And if the concern is that some teachers won’t read their email, how about checking to see who’s doing the thing, who can’t and needs help, and who won’t and needs to either be held accountable or be heard? You know—assessment. #satchat
A4: give Ts a voice. Empower to take ownership of their own learning. Surveys, convos and (it’s not the last time I’ll say it!) #edcamp style PD a few times a year (if not more!) #satchat
I agree. We try to do about 3 edcamp style PD throughout the year. Ts love it. Another popular one is PLAYdate PD to let them play with tech (many are afraid of it and this helps) #satchat
A4: We can help amplify teachers voice and choice in PD by always taking a questionnaire at the end of the meetings! On the questionnaire we can also have a comment section open on it! #satchat@barbersclass#barbersclass
A3 Remove forced PD. After each EdCamp PD we ask 4 feedback and closely read/analyze. When I follow up quickly, teachers are pleasantly surprised that anyone even read their feedback, never mind acted on their words too! #satchat
A4 Don’t just think of “PD days.” (Yawn) Ask: How can we create sustained, systemic PL that responds to Ts’ expressed needs? How can they be involved in co-constructing the PL? #satchat

A4: I mean a good start would be to ask. That might seem pretty basic, but you’d be surprised how infrequently the powers above would say, “well what do you need?” Trust me, I need things! #satchat
A4: I think we could survey teachers & find out what's relevant to them & plan accordingly. It might look messy but everyone would feel valued as they grow & meet their own goals #satchat
A4: Encouragement to do. Sometimes forcing them to do, when you know they can, but they just need to be told they can and should. #satchat I am not afraid to push my staff in this area at all.
A4: Any adult can have a voice in their own PD- they just have to get past their own mental roadblocks or traditional thought process that others have to do it for them- Better question- how do allow Ss to have a voice in PD?????? #satchat
A4 By letting teachers tell you what they need/want from PD and really hearing them! By having your teachers who are experts in something lead the PD. We need to always remember the PD should be focused on building teachers up not breaking them down! #satchat
A4 This is the big question in the pool. In order for teachers to lead their students to success they must find their Voice, model their instructional moves, and provide choice. Solid PD is the path to do so. Voice quote attached by @ERobbPrincipal#satchat
A4: Trust that we know what WE need. I have extreme gratitude for all learning offered me, the stuff that sticks is the stuff I chase after not the stuff laid out in front of me. #4OCF#satchat
A4: Drive by PD isn't overly helpful. Ts connect better with a resource they know will be available at a moments notice for questions, feedback, concerns. #satchat
A4) Learner Agency is just as important for adults as it is for students. Voice & choice will create more buy-in and engagement! I have witnessed this through attending several EdCamps and seeing how participants truly dive into the discussions & learning. #SATCHAT
A4 T’s are notorious for being silent experts, we are conditionedto blend in, but almost every T is an expert in something & flipping that switch turns them into T’s of teachers, leaders, we build relationships w/ S’s to teach them, let’s use relationships w/ T’s for PD #satchat
A3- I can definitely cut back on my Netflix episodes to allow myself time to research techniques, that Will eventually be useful in my future classroom #satchat#4OCF#barbersclass

A4: Teacher voice & choice can be heard via PD surveys of topics they would like to see and attend. It would also be awesome districts offered an “unconference” conference a few times a year to empower staff to share their own knowledge. #satchat
#satchat A4 Fear keeps some Ts paralyzed: of retribution, of not being heard, of having their thoughts heard and dismissed. Loud doesn’t always bring change. Responsive leadership does.

#satchat As innovation coach, I get about 20 minutes at each faculty meeting to have a teacher present a new idea, strategy or tool around a theme and then tables discuss implications for their disciplines and suggest similar strategies then share. https://t.co/z8LPj9tVz6
I can see a small group being easier to manage. It's the combination of text and audio that gets me. You have to listen to understand the convos you've missed. Large groups can be overwhelming. #satchat
A4: Amplify YOUR OWN VOICE by leading the charge - be fearless, go to admin with ideas, be passionate, be relentless - Make a choice and proudly discuss its successes or failures without hesitation so other staff feed off your energy and transparency #satchat
A4 empower ts 2 lead PD @ interests/?s/ideas that build on ss strengths. Encourage integrated PD where all Pd is designed to include aspects of whole child. Artistic, musical, physical, scientific, poetic, etc. every ts feels valued, more importantly ss benefit most #satchat
A4 Be willing to speak up. Years ago district tried something different for PD & voices our admin heard were negatives ones in a mtg afterwards. Felt like I was only one who liked it. As year went on , found out I wasnt, many others liked it too but afraid to speak up #satchat

A4 Ts were very engaged in an EdCamp style meeting -TWITTER, SEL , ENL, new math techniques. Just a few topics that they were interested that made a very well received early AM PD #satchat
A4 We are doing far fewer stand alone “entertrainments” now and doing much more creating courses and programs with schools. Sustained, systemic, responsive professional learning. This is the way forward! #satchat
Begin with an Edcamp-style approach, based on topics that are personally relevant to teachers. Expand outward by identifying themes, to get people to "cross-pollinate thinking and learning. #satchat
There are so many online resources that we can use for our own PD. Would rather do it on my own, on my own time, in the comfort of my home. I still love to meet my PLN at #edcamp. #satchat
A4 - Used an online form to gather ideas for EdCamp sessions and used Ts own words when organizing sessions. It was new to everyone and staff felt empowered. Just ask what is needed and go from there. #satchat
#satchat A4 I need to remind colleagues how much we gained from choice-based PD. If there is enthusiasm for the process, change can happen. In the meantime, I have 2 #edcamp sessions on my calendar! #edcampct#edcampswct
A4 Teachers don’t have to wait for admin to give us a voice. We can use our voices through Twitter, blogs, videos, podcasts, websites, newsletters, local papers, and professional periodicals. The more we tell our stories, the harder it is to ignore our experience.

Nifty idea! I talk with my STEAM lab students about "gleaning" ideas from others. No more "He/she copied my idea!" Together students and teachers can make our work stronger, and more joyful. #satchat

Some in the #bfc530 chat said "Cancel all meetings that can be handled with in an email." I feel like a lot can be and it seems like a good plan to open up time for real PD.

A3: Many things can be automated or facilitated through tech to free up time for other learning:
planning, repetitive processes, communication, etc Use tech to ease and create efficiencies #Satchat
I generally focus better when I read than when I listen (mind drifts). But I'm also severely hearing impaired. I can hear podcasts in my car with the sound up VERY loud. Podcasts are more professional than Voxer. Often people are harder to hear & I get frustrated. #satchat
Also, how do you introduce teachers to ideas & tools that doesn't initially interest them so they don't choose to learn about but appreciate learning about it afterwards?
#satchat
A4: As a district, limit the amount of mandated PD you roll out annually. Be transparent about the why, how, and success or lack of success. Use rest of time for choice PD. Ask teachers what their goals are? Build PD around their goals. #satchat
A4) Learner Agency is just as important for adults as it is for students. Voice & choice will create more buy-in and engagement! I have witnessed this through attending several EdCamps and seeing how participants truly dive into the discussions & learning. #SATCHAT
A4 Ask and actually listen to their answers. I can't tell you how many times I have been asked what I would like to see in PD and then never had the opportunity to explore. Encourage teachers to lead sessions on things they are passionate about! Passion begets passion #satchat
A4: I love edcamps for educators choosing their professional learning. But admin might say: "Where's the accountability?" Is there a strategy, plan, or path to apply and prove your learning post-#edcamp? Will that meet a common or unique learning target or goal? #satchat
Many can identify with this. A lot of professional organizations offer journal abstracts w/ great info. That said, you have to strike the balance between when your brain is "on" versus "recharge." Get after the research, but don't burn out. That's counterproductive. #satchat

A4 PD is fluid in a learning community! In my school PLC are everyday of the wk & Ts are provided several days built into the schoolyear for PD/Share Fairs, and share common preps to encourage coaching and sharing ideas #satchat

#gamification has incredible potential. Immersive trainings where entire faculty does things like The Marshmallow Challenge or @breakoutEDU are so incredibly effective at modeling the power of collaborative learning, communication, and play. #satchat

A4 We started our last PD unplugged. No ppt, no smartboard, just ok’ fashion paper articles & chatter. Topics: Is flexible seating a fad? How can we teach Ss 2B the 1s 2 return the shopping cart 🛒 in the future? It emphasized that relationships matter the most #satchat
We do the same. The buy in for the PD is much higher when they are seeing the need around the school, when it is a data-based decision. Of course, differentiation and choice are still important. #satchat

A4 An entertaining PD doesn’t always lead to better Ss outcomes. We need to be designing sustained PL with Ss outcomes in mind. It’s not just about what topic is of interest to Ts, but what do our data say we need. Ts can best answer that question #satchat
We do this in my school board, but one thing that’s missing IMHO is to set up structures to help Ts keep up the momentum throughout the year. Learning buddies sounds like a great idea. #satchat
A4- I think that we should continue to provide our students with opportunities that will increase their PD. Whether that be a speaker, reflection, or whatever else you have in mind #satchat#4OCF#barbersclass
A5) I am a big fan of @MarciatateSit & Get Won't Grow Dendrites #Satchathttps://t.co/WPV9HjOQqI′t-Grow-Dendrites/dp/1412999340/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1517663363&sr=8-8&keywords=marcia+tate+books
A5: To make it must watch, make it useful - change up the way a session is presented, use Ts from your own building to present, get people to interact and get active! Think of how you would entertain kids, and then make it 10x more engaging #satchat
A5 how humans learn across all time ... through image, story, movement, modeling, practice, talk, humor - fresh air and natural light whenever possible #satchat
@Flipgrid would be a cool way to do a #StaffBookTasting Each person can do a video of their favorite and why they think others should read it. #satchat#4OCF
A5 By making them more must do's than must watch! I want teachers to get their hands on the learning and not watch me do all the teaching! To me, great PD is where I can watch and guide! #satchat
Late to the party, but A4: we should start asking Ts what they can share 1st, the bank of knowledge and expertise among staff is incredible. Then those Ts can turnkey to others who want to learn from them, eventually it will all be reciprocal. #satchat#allin4NB
This is so true! Walk into our buildings with a learners lens! I love journaling at the end of the day all the things that I learn just from walking through my own teachers classrooms and labs and how we could share those practices out. #satchat
A5 PD should NEVER be “must-watch.” It’s not a product to consume. Great PD is experiential (learn a technique by doing it), collaborative (tap into diverse experiences & capacities in the room), and generative (leave with something you created and can use).
#satchat
Sharing at staff meetings! Like that! But how about the before part? Do educators express goals in learning before attending #edcamp, get their #PD, & then report back? This could be a good model in the making, & a way to celebrate the total learning process in edcamps! #satchat
I love how you stated it as a positive from an admin perspective as well and how it turn allows you to encourage the teachers under your charge #satchat
A5: I think when you can touch on someone's emotions if possible and allow for reflection of their own practice. Something I need to allow more time for. #satchat
A3 We extended our school day from Mon - Thurs by half an hour, allowing Ss to go home 2 hours early on Fri. Ts have 2 hours per week to focus on PD. Adding food makes it popular! #satchat
A5 Maybe not must-watch but must do or engage? Definitely want teachers moving from compliance to commitment in PD planning.
7 Characteristics of Great Professional Development - TeachThought PD https://t.co/pgqhCwveWs#satchat
A5 another idea is to have a student tech team create “teaser ads” -host mini camps - like Thirty Minute Thursday with a specific focus ex formative assessment. #satchat
Bang. That's it. PD must set the tone for instruction: it cascades. Must ignite interest, must be exciting, must NOT be about compliance. A5 #satchat@MrJSellen "Model it after your school's vision for classroom instruction."
A5 Model it after your school's vision for classroom instuction. Staff need to see and be engaged the way students should be engaged. Think of it "selfishly:" If you wouldn't want to sit through it, don't conduct it that way. #satchat
A5 Stop making it “another thing we have to do” it should be something to look forward to. And that happens by being invested & causing a stir/excitement #satchat
6) While everyone was rummaging through the memo, we learned that the PRESIDENTIAL DAILY BRIEF was being delivered to Cankles' server. What we don't know is if this was the one in her bathroom or other unsecured location.
Survey, F2F, ask those that play School the best and those that play it the worst. To often we don’t hear or want to hear what Ss say because we are to caught up thinking that we adults know best..... #Satchat
A5: PD has to be engaging and people need feel like they’ve gained a new perspective or new tool they can apply to their instructional practices. #satchat
We've had great luck with 20 minute lunchtime PD sessions. Quick intro of a new tool with 15 minutes for attendees to try it themselves, with a tech integrator or teacher-pro there to answer questions and brainstorm uses for the tool #satchat
Not used either one, but have heard about pineapple. Do you have any links that describe these? Or will searching the hashtag be enough? Thanks! #satchat
Yes!!!! Focusing on the good shows people how far they've come. Focusing on the bad holds them back. @RushmoreAcad we do a Glows and Grows session every week with our Leadership Huddle and the Teacher Success Team Huddles! IT's POWERFUL! #satchat

Isn't it true that you are writing your own life story and YOU are in charge of your learning? Grab a book - talk with others about the book - READ! #satchat
Just a thought..I'd love to see Ts get the chance to read a great book like #kidsdeserveit or #tlap or #culturize and hold a Socratic seminar to share their takeaways #satchat
If something is not working stop waiting for someone else to come fix it, fix it yourself. That is what happened around here literally after Hurricane Sandy. The same lesson can be on PD. Get it yourself and then share with others #satchat
A5 I do this all the time! And WhatsApp for international schools. And online short recordings so we are engaged together in a sustained way over time to solve issues. #satchathttps://t.co/EVSdAOkMys
A5: Google Hangouts/Skype can be used to bring in speakers/ facilitators from outside your district! Twitter friends/authors will do this for free! Just ask/connect! Did it for a PD day for my building and it was awesome! @MathDenisNJ was our "keynote." #satchat
A5: I think this @burgessdave quote could be applied to PD as well. If teachers didn’t have to be there, would admin be talking to an empty room? #satchat
A5 make Pd different every time. When we get into a rut of same delivery, same place, same expectations, same outcomes. Fresh, new, innovative Pd every time keeps people excited to see what’s next. SB commercials evolve, so must Pd. #satchat
A5: I over prepare for PD, but just touch on what works best for the group in the room. Then you can still share all the other resources for later viewing. I've also created Google Slides w/links to a table of contents - a choose your PD (from @GTeacherTribe Podcast). #satchat
Hello everyone, my name is Elyse Croyts. I am a Special Education mild to moderate major at Kent State University. I am excited to participate in this chat this morning. @barbersclass#satchat
A6: One big takeaway is to always think of the attendees first. Just like we put Ss first in planning a great lesson, we must put PD attendees first alongside learning goals. Teaching and people first, technology and test scores second.
#satchat#4OCF
A5: Make professional learning a mindset, it is always occurring. Then when you have a PD event, make it memorable. Use guidelines from Heath Brothers in "Power of Moments" - connect emotionally, break the script, surprise people!! #satchat
Sometimes, yes. It was just an example of: How can we have educators express goals pre-edcamp, attend, and then report back afterwards? How can we leverage #edcamp-like prof learning as a process to get more personalization and differentiation out of our #PD opps? #satchat
Food is always a motivator! Also, a light and entertaining environment while beginning a PD session will allow for more comfortable participants #satchat#40CF#barbersclass
A5: back to personalization. If someone has skin in the game (needed a Fball reference), they will be into it. If not, no matter how you bedazzle it, they won’t. #satchat
Nope that’s too easy of an excuse—- I’ve grown over the past several years at no cost to many of my disitricts and did things at night, weekends, and any time I could. I found solutions instead of saying, poor me.... #satchat
A4: Amplify our voices by leveraging our PLN to share what we are learning with our peers in a pineapple chart, lunch and learn, book club, 5 min Pd! #4ocfhttps://t.co/xjHTnNDr6f#satchat
A5 Stop making it “another thing we have to do” it should be something to look forward to. And that happens by being invested & causing a stir/excitement #satchat
Agree! Goes back to a district taking advantage of the experts they have hired. We all have learned and executed great ideas, more often than not, we just need the opportunity to share them #satchat
A5: We started Twitter chats at my school and the teachers are loving it! Many have come and asked to co-moderate with me! Our next chat will spotlight my principal @principalethan ! #EParkchat Check it out! #satchat
A6: As a director I will be purposefully choosing PD opportunities for my teachers that align with their PDPlans and I'd also love to use a PD board like @jacq_mccarthy shared! #satchat#40CF
Not sure about you #PA18 but I prefer my candidates to be fit, energetic and fully engaged like @ConorLambPA. He wants to protect our Social Security and Medicare.
A5: PD should be practical and engaging for the learner. If Ts know they walk away with something new they can implement, and get to see how it works for the learner it is more likely to be not only “must watch”, but “must try”!!! #satchat#allin4NB
Fantastic! That is so encouraging. I think the next step, in terms of deepest PD, is to encourage teachers to develop their own, legitimate relationships with authors. To make yourself a student of someone with the deepest knowledge of a subject is a fine goal. #satchat
a6| I think it's pertinent that we all work together in communities to build schools, not looking for accolades, but always doing the right thing. #satchat
One more idea - give teachers the opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices while doing something fun and creative - art cooking, working out, yoga #satchat
And the moral of the story is this ;
Never give control of yourself to someone not on control of him/herself and don’t give control of yourself until you are in control of yourself

LOVE @Flipgrid. I think a #flipgrid reflection right-there-on-the-spot would be valuable, but also how about a #FlipgridFever reponse of demonstrating the newfound learning experienced at #edcamp applied in action in learning spaces? #satchat
A6 the idea of building a PD board for Ts to share what they want to learn and then have other Ts who can share information about those topics do mini PDs #satchat
Join @_StephenFujii & myself this Thursday at 8:30pm EST for our NEW chat focusing on creating educational ecosystems within your community to inspire college & career pathways within your district & instructional designs! This week sharing practices & resources! #EPNOh#Satchat
#satchat A6. I will take away looking at my "learners" - the teachers and, ultimately, the students. What do they need to be engaged in the learning process, how can they be involved? #Brownsin2018
Totally agree that you can learn on your own (and do it myself all the time), but what about PD in schools? Do you just leave that out and hope everyone gets experience in their own little bubble? there is something to be said for PD with colleagues. #satchat
Former Clinton Aide on Fox News callling the FISA memo “disturbing” and how Comey is a national embarrassment. Haven’t agreed with a Dem in a long time... 👏👏 #SatChat
Using Doctopus for emails with attached work products. Push of one button allows passive spot checking and scaffolded support rather than forcing everyone to attend an all hands meeting where everyone is expected to learn at the same pace. #satchat
I agree. Punishing poor public schools is not a way to handle the education rating system. All schools should have a good rating and should give students a place where they can succeed. @barbersclass#satchat
#satchat A6 Thank you for this idea. I am going to organize another #book group for #teachers. In addition to that, I will continue to expand my #PLN with #twitter
A5 what we see, hear, and feel has to impact us. It has to mean something. From there I feel like #responsiveleaders help guide their personalized connections to making learning relevant to their students #satchat
Instead of radio, listen to YouTube channels and podcasts-- learn while I drive. So it's not that I'm not auditory. It's that it reminds me of VM and isn't concise or focused enough for me. #satchat

A6: Was already working on an "Appy Hour" staff meeting, but now thinking of ending with T's sitting with departments to list ways they might use those apps in the classroom. Smartest person in the group, is the group. #satchat
If I can get my kids excited about fractions and expository text features then please do the same for me if it’s PD I may need yet don’t choose myself #satchat
A6. You could join #BookCampPD each Saturday morning at 9:00 AM EST when it fits into your schedule and discuss books with other educators. It will be a game changer for you! #satchat
A6 We hope you'll ask loads of beautiful questions about, during, and after your PD to make it more valuable and impactful.

A6 the idea of building a PD board for Ts to share what they want to learn and then have other Ts who can share information about those topics do mini PDs #satchat
A5. Some PD could be standardized for convenient access. Cisco maintains an absolutely huge vault of corporate videos for employees on equipment, processes, etc., and the audio portion is text searchable. This could have application in ed for strategies, processes, etc. #satchat
One more idea - give teachers the opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices while doing something fun and creative - art cooking, working out, yoga #satchat
Appreciate this & also think it goes both ways. We should also understand why admin wants teachers & students to keep doing some things the way they’ve always been done. #satchat
A6: I want to reflect on the PDs I've been running every Friday with my staff and make sure that I am providing what's needed, that they are engaging and that they are teacher owned. I plan to send a survey out to see what my staff wants and where they stand with PD. #satchat
A2: Changing PD is so easy, but as we say in #HackLearning, often the simplest answers are overlooked.
Admin must stop deciding what is best for #teachers and involve them in the process. Ask, "What would you like to learn, and how do you want to learn it?"
#satchat
Do any other middle school leaders utilize the National Schools to Watch rubric to help generate PD and school improvement efforts? If so, how? #satchat
A6. You could buy three copies of this book - one for you, one for another teacher in your building and one for admin - game changer for sure! #satchat
A5. Teachers are more in tune with PD when your are putting it in their hands and/or basing the session off of some of the schools relevant data. #satchat
Agreed&that’s so sad that egotistical, out dated admins are still doing this. People need to work as one,not top down.Sad that many Ts jump up to admin position and keep doing what they learned. The cycle continues because it takes guts to DO instead of talk about it. #Satchat -
I know a new elem principal in a big district who, while turning her school around, kept 100% of the PD in her school. She refused to let her staff go to district pd because it was disjointed and mixed messages. Very brave, she became principal of the year #satchat
A5: Beyond “must watch”, PD can be “must do” when it is engaging, relevant, timely, practical, collaborative and personalized. Let’s learn about helping our students BELIEVE... #satchat
A6: Plan with the why. What do you want teachers to walk away with? Imbed questions for them to reflect on their practice and share real-world examples. #satchat
A4 Teachers don’t have to wait for admin to give us a voice. We can use our voices through Twitter, blogs, videos, podcasts, websites, newsletters, local papers, and professional periodicals. The more we tell our stories, the harder it is to ignore our experience.
#satchat
We get specific. We set goals for wk that we want to accomplish then the following wk we share a glow on that goal. We then share how we think we can grow in this area as well. We also do an "ask for" support from each other. It's a positive approach to accountability. #satchat

Recall @realDonaldTrump saying the NFL is wussifying football by penalizing hits that are likely to cause concussions and refs call hard hit penalties so their wives can see them on TV?
Agree. This month we have our PD in the form of online course but it's the exception not the rule. Plus we have the whole month to do it. ON our own time schedule:)

A6 Choice Boards like at @EdCampLi are especially good for PD. Let the learner choose their path to grow as a learner. Maybe start with a limited set of choices. #satchat
Agreed. People like #BetsyDeVos, & her worthless party want to shut down public schools located in poor areas and replace them with for profit charter schools. Republicans represent a clear and present danger to public education. #SaturdayMorning#satchat#Resist
A6 I love the idea of engaging students in teacher PD. Worth working out logistics. My students have amazing skills to share, especially tech-related. They can share what's engaging to them, what captures & holds their attention. Build a "we're in this together" mindset. #satchat
Have always said there is more learning going on in and out of the classroom than academic content. Always felt being a baseball coach was an extension of my teaching and the diamond a classroom without desks and whiteboard #satchat

Portion of PD for teachers should be required through Social Media so it is driven by what teachers deem essential to their own advancement in the classroom and content they teach. #satchat
A6 The why always powers up the learning. My desk is filled with professional texts to lead me on the path to learning, Jacqueline. It is the how that I am struggling with because time is limited. I need to get the most accomplished in the limited time. #satchat
Isn't it amazing how much wisdom is shared during one #satchat on a Saturday morning? @RACzyz you are appreciated! Many thanks to all who shared their ideas and comments!! @TheBradCurrie and @wkrakower your consistency in providing the chat is marvelous!
A6. I have just started using @flipgrid with some of my staff (coalition of the willing)to reflect on the PD session that just past. Ts provide some feedback for myself and the admin team to review and to take into consideration for next PD. #satchat
