Hi, I'm Cindy from Corsicana, one of the #EDpiper co-moderators. One thing I'm enthusiastic about is kids. I love children and am grateful to have spent my entire adult life in the field of education. Our work matters!!!!
Lisa, speech language pathologist, from Minnesota. I am enthusiastic about many things, but really love watching my daughter do gymnastics and love watching my students participate in extracurricular activities as well. #edpiper
Intro A: Adriana Pruente, 4th grade teacher, Math & Science, Castleman Creek Elementary, Midway ISD. Hewitt Texas (originally Alaska).I'm SUPER Enthusiastic about teaching Science, my kids KNOW when we have science lab day! My lab coat, circuits in my hair, you name it! #EDpiper
Russ from Lorena, TX via IH35. Coming back from Austin so I may be a little quite tonight. Enthusiastic about getting home tonight! š¤£š¤£š¤£#EDpiper
I help schools get more life out of the computers they already have while increasing their cybersecurity. I am originally from TX but now in NYC. Enthusiastic about Triathlon, Chrome, Hummus, and Pizza - in no particular order. #EDpiper
Barbara Page, teacher and EdD student in Waco, TX! One thing I'm ENTHUSIASTIC about is learning- I am a forever learner & while it may drive me crazy most days, I could never imagine not being a student! #TXed#EDUchat#edpiper
Hi yāall! Jessica, Ed Specialist at ESC Region 12...very excited to have the opportunity to work with lots of Ts this week on #edtech tools and Ss #empowerment#EDpiper
#edpiper I'm Shari Dawson, live in Midlothian, TX, work for @desotoisdengage and I'm enthusiastic about innovation in public schools and preparing Ss for jobs of the 21st century!
Q1: If you had asked me that in my last school, I'd say yes, it was an uphill battle trying to connect and get them to care. But this year no, I have kids saying they want to stay longer, they love school, they WANT to try and CRAVE learning #EDpiper
GREAT read! Dealing with student apathy & developing student enthusiasm can be exhausting work for teachers & can lead to burnout. Here's a fascinating article about how a teacher group took staff turnover into their own hands at their school. #EDpiperhttps://t.co/TnTg6pAJVv
A1: Definitely think apathy is real in all Ss, kids & adults...most of it comes from a disconnect from the content or learning. Love this article that addresses! #EDpiperhttps://t.co/m8A2A9761B
I think it so hard to say it's #1 with certainty, given that there are different challenges in each classroom and school. However, I do think it is definitely a battle that we do face with many. I am interested in finding out solutions to help. #EDpiper
yes, for sure. I love learning. I am currently taking 9 credits, plus trying to get in as many twitter chats as I can. Never can learn too much for our students. #edpiper
A1: Absolutely- apathy, unfortunately, is just as contagious as enthusiasm. A classroom filled with apathy is led by Ts dealing with it. However, it's the inability to recognize and INITIATE self change that is the true issue. I call it complacency comas! #EDpiper#TXed#EDUchat
Barbara Page, teacher and EdD student in Waco, TX! One thing I'm ENTHUSIASTIC about is learning- I am a forever learner & while it may drive me crazy most days, I could never imagine not being a student! #TXed#EDUchat#edpiper
Rachel, 3rd grade teacher from Waco, enthusiastic about getting back to my kiddos tomorrow! Iāve been out for 2 days and I have missed them. #edpiper
Katie, middles school teacher from Burleson Tx. Something I am enthusiastic about is Creating engaging learning experiences for students and adults #EDpiper
Karmen Logan, Elementary principal from Waco. I am passionate about helping others reach their potential- both adults and students. I get excited seeing others grow and be their best. #EDpiper
I feel that Ss are apathetic towards their education when learning stops being fun. While apathy is a huge problem, I can't say that it's number 1. Creating engaging lessons combats apathy. #edpiper
Hi Courtney. I am so glad to have you on #EDpiper tonight. I love that you bring a very different perspective to the chat, and one that I constantly learn from in this field.
A1: I agree to an extent. I believe that there are underlying issues, as well, but a lot of kids will honestly tell you that they donāt care about school. Itās a sad truth for some of them. #edpiper
A2: Make it real for them. Bring their lives into the learning. This makes it more relevant. Let them know you care about their learning. Give them voice and choice. #edpiper
Q2: I check to see who's voice I hear. Sometimes it's helpful to make tally marks for the number of times the teacher talks vs. students talk. If the teacher is doing all the talking, it's going to be a very, very long & dry lesson.... #EDpiper#sitquietly
A2: I try hard to find/create escape rooms or other types of interactive learning opportunities. Games solidify skills faster than most any other form of learning. #edpiper
A2: Relevancy is key for me...I want Ss, adults & kids to know why weāre using their time...making learning as close to real-world applications as often as possible #EDpiper
Q2: Humor keeps the more tedious class times interesting. Every class had inside jokes with me, little rituals & silly indulgences that made class special. Always hilarious to classmates & me. I spent a lot of time preparing for myself & my lessons to be interesting. #EDpiper
Rachel, 3rd grade teacher from Waco, enthusiastic about getting back to my kiddos tomorrow! Iāve been out for 2 days and I have missed them. #edpiper
A2: Giving students voice and choice. I know itās not easy, and some teachers struggle with what that looks like- but start with a menu. Giving students a little control in their learning is a start. #EDPiper
A2: Connect it back to THEIR LIVES! In education, we hear the term: REAL-WORLD CONNECTIONS. However, we need to make the connections to the Ss. It may be relevant to the real world, but not to them. If that's the case, learning is abstract! #EDpiper#EDUchat#TXed
A1: #EDpiper I don't feel like apathy HAS TO BE the #1 problem in classrooms. It can be overcome in many ways: give Ss a voice, listen, make content relevant to them, celebrate even the tiniest successes! #engage2learn@desotoisdengage
A1: I agree. No matter what tools I give them to help grow, they just donāt care. It shows in their faces as they walk the hallways, it shows in their demeanor as they are in class, and it shows in their grades. #edpiper
A2: One of the best ways to make writing relevant is through the use of social media tools or blogging...Ss should have the opportunity to share out their learning with others on a global level #EDpiper
Q2: We start our lesson with our objective, so they focus in on what our goal is, at the end, they tell me if they feel they met it or not. Next I help them tie it to real life, when will you use this, have you ever, this is how I used this yesterday, etc
#edpiper
I can say that educators can all be enthusiastic about their bed at night. This profession is full of passionate, hard-working people who go to bed each day with full hearts and tired to their core. #EDpiper
A2: Listening to their thoughts for their own learning. We recently did a change to our stations because I saw they werenāt engaged. They self reflected and told me what they liked and what they would change about stations. I then took their ideas and made it happen. #edpiper
A2.If you let your students have a voice, value their thinking and input, and show them that you genuinely care about their ideas, then you can make any lesson exciting and relevant. Donāt be afraid to be silly. Center your lessons around their interests. #EDpiper
A2: At the beginning of the year, I have Ss complete an interest inventory which gives me great insight. I use their responses to create engaging lessons that are focused around their interests. #edpiper
You are so great at having the Ss self-reflect. Not just for this particular issue, but its a norm in your class and I am convinced this is why you build such great relationships with them! #EDpiper
A2: Listening to their thoughts for their own learning. We recently did a change to our stations because I saw they werenāt engaged. They self reflected and told me what they liked and what they would change about stations. I then took their ideas and made it happen. #edpiper
A2: Listening to their thoughts for their own learning. We recently did a change to our stations because I saw they werenāt engaged. They self reflected and told me what they liked and what they would change about stations. I then took their ideas and made it happen. #edpiper
A2: Differentiate lessons for Ss and their interests! Go on a virtual field trip, give choice in how they show their learning, find out what makes them "tick" and monopolize on knowing what you know about them! Ss need to know WHY! #EDpiper@desotoisdengage
A2: I tend to go with incentives. IF we sing the songs I pick out for the Winter Concert without arguing or complaining, THEN you can vote on the spring show theme and help choose repertoire. We sometimes sing our music backwards just for a change of pace. #edpiper
Student activities and lessons should be driven to relate to their lives. This engages them and will give them ownership of their work throughout the study. #EDpiper
I love your honesty, Genna. It is true. I don't think all instruction has to be loads of fun. However, Ss need to understand the purpose behind it for sure. #EDpiper
I feel that Ss are apathetic towards their education when learning stops being fun. While apathy is a huge problem, I can't say that it's number 1. Creating engaging lessons combats apathy. #edpiper
A3. My college roommate said she used to hide in class: sit low, hide in jacket, hold book in front of face. Never a behavior problem, very smart. A few observant teachers paid attention & sought her out, praised & encouraged, but mostly she slipped through the cracks. #EDpiper
A2: Adventure is the spice of life and in the classroom too. Bringing in novelty or connecting to students real life are key. Vary teaching styles to spice things up and reach all kids. #EDpiper
R1: Apathy is in full effect. I think that a T response to a topic they are teaching can spur enthusiasm or apathy. Talking about endoplasmic reticulum night not be exciting to one T, but to another might be the best thing. How I react can affect the Ss. #EDpiper
Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic & faithful.... Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. #EDpiper#Emerson
A3: I have worked with students with selective mutism along with many students with ASD that struggle to be heard. I provide them many different ways to be heard that isn't always requiring verbal output. Choices are big! Gives the Ss POWER!! #edpiper
& this is how I know the man upstairs placed me where I NEEDED to be! Your constant encouragement, advice, and safe space to let me vent have been such game changers for me!! #EDpiper
R2: I allow my Ss to ask ?s about any subject in bio and we will discuss. I also try to incorporate lab activities into the class frequently to tie in curriculum with a hands on project. #EDpiper
I think this is wear iPads are a great resource. Some S are not able to get their voice out there, or are uncomfortable doing so. The iPad can allow them to share their thoughts in a way that makes them comfortable. #edpiper
A3: This is when conferencing during small group instruction is so CRUCIAL. Those are the times that Ss come out of their shell and feel comfortable enough to flourish! I build and support those relationships daily! #edpiper
I was this kid in school! I NEVER talked in class. I LOVE sticky notes and using them to write the kids a quick note of encouragement. I try to do a few a day and get through the whole class each week. #edpiper
A3: Thereās nothing more powerful than relationships w/Ss...when Ss know you care they are more willing to ask for help or to share what they know #EDpiper
I think that letting Ss work with a partner while the T circulates the room gives them an opportunity to become confident and have a voice, as well as receiving feedback right away #EDpiper
A3: I keep a list on my phone of students that donāt tend to speak out. I use that list to call on them in small ways. This allows them to show what they know w/o putting them front and center like my showier Ss. They know that so long as I hear the A theyāre good. #edpiper
Q3: By finding different ways to facilitate and express themselves! They have such varied gifts and talents! I had a student that really does not talk AT ALL and was so excited to present her Keynote to our Principal, she was brave enough to narrate it herself!
#edpiper
What gets tough is constantly planning the most innovative lessons. There are times for this type of investment planning. However, small groups will help student engagement. Sometimes, teacher closeness brings interest greater than anything else. #EDpiper
A3: Taking time to connect with the quiet ones is important. Find out interests, talk about what they are reading, make sure they know they are seen. #Edpiper
A3: Use various forms of formative assessments that do not require the kids to speak in front of the group. I do a lot of turn and talk, sticky note responses, and individual conferencing with my students. #edpiper
I am telling you, while she was talking, you could hear a pin drop! The other students had gone to school with her for years and had never heard her do that, she was so proud to present that keynote, I'll never forget that.
#edpiper
That is sad and the real reality for some students. It takes extra love and motivation to create an environment they want to come to each day. #EDpiper
A1: I agree to an extent. I believe that there are underlying issues, as well, but a lot of kids will honestly tell you that they donāt care about school. Itās a sad truth for some of them. #edpiper
A3. When pulling students in small groups, I strategically put some in different groups in order to better hear them and not let one dominate personality take over. #EDpiper
A3: #edpiper Even quiet Ss can like the spotlight. They may need a little encouragement, but they may surprise themselves. A student from 4 years ago recently shared that his favorite memory in school was when I encouraged him to share his writing with another teacher/class.
TRUTH! I remember going over a fifth grade reading staar passage and stopping because it used yacht...my kids had never heard or seen a yacht before!
#edpiper
Oh, I love this, Barbara. Thank you. I feel the same way about you and all the teachers at CCE. I feel like I've been placed there to be inspired by all our staff. #EDpiper
& this is how I know the man upstairs placed me where I NEEDED to be! Your constant encouragement, advice, and safe space to let me vent have been such game changers for me!! #EDpiper
A3: Making connections with students by finding out about their interests, attending outside events to support them, and knowing their strengths / learning styles! #edpiper
A4. Jumping in late! This may be no brainer but what about the old fashion "anticipatory hook"? I'm a big fan of costumes and accessories personally. #edpiper
A1. Apathy is def a factor and problem... I feel like times are a changinā and unless we allow our students to watch you tube all day then theyāll be bored. Technology is misused at home and changes students perspectives on learning and work ethic. #EDpiper
R4: I think that instead of always giving notes and having Ss take quizzes and tests, we give real live scenarios and projects that make learning relevant. I did egg drop boxes to teach force and reinforce distance/displacement, velocity, and acceleration. #EDpiper
A3: I love our morning meetings. Ss share how they solved a problem. They love finding different ways. Guided math groups are smaller circles of conversation and learning. Letās not forget technology. There are awesome ways for Ss to have a voice! #EDPiper
I greet my students each day as they walk into my classroom. I ask the students about their weekend and activities that take place out of school. I conference with my students about their education and I encourage them to meet their goals. #edpiper
A4: I try hard to create honest relationships with my Ss. I donāt sugarcoat things, but I do make sure they know theyāre MINE! I tell them when I brag on them and when we have to work on things. More often than not, I brag. They ā¤ļø that! #edpiper#treatshelptoo
A4: Making eye contact and calling students by name is a start. When I taught- I made sure I knew students interests and extra curriculars to talk about with them. I shared my life with them. Community circles built trust. #Edpiper
I love to watch teachers teach with a sense of humor. However, I was never quite as witty as most. So, I learned fast to let my funny students help me lead. Using their humor to help motivate others. #EDpiper
Q2: Humor keeps the more tedious class times interesting. Every class had inside jokes with me, little rituals & silly indulgences that made class special. Always hilarious to classmates & me. I spent a lot of time preparing for myself & my lessons to be interesting. #EDpiper
A5: CELEBRATIONS & RECOGNITIONS! Today was a day where all Ss passed a quiz in my classrooms & they were celebrated- I saw them walk a little more confident & thrive under this recognition. They all left saying, "we can't wait for tomorrow!" #Edpiper
Q4: A few years ago we adopted a new math program. I was so EXCITED to share the students ever day. When they saw that I was having fun they naturally joined in the fun. A teacher's attitude is huge. #edpiper
A4: enthusiasm is critical. If kids are not excited to learn, they won't. Get them excited by using something that will touch their lives to bring them in. Show them the "why" for what you are doing. Sometimes if they know the importance,it will help.#edpiper
We just had a situation this morning where a trainer told a Ts hi and they said nothing back in return...made us worry abt how the response would have been to a child. #EDpiper
I think making sure S feel important to you is one of the first things a T needs to do. Greeting S by name, giving them a compliment. Another thing to start with is making sure the S see you as a person. Seeing you be silly and make mistakes! #edpiper
A3: By greeting them in the mornings, finding out their interests, attending outside activities they participate in, eat lunch with them, etc. #EDpiper
A4: connecting with a student on something non-school related and actually following up later with a question or comment to show the student you were really paying attention... so important and parents appreciate it too. #EDpiper
Q4: PLAY WITH THEM! Yes, we have to teach, we have to enter grades, we need rigor...but they are also kids, be silly, admit mistakes, let them know it's ok to make a mistake. Get dirty, play football, dress up, look goofy, get them AND you excited!
#edpiper
I like how you often give choice and voice to your students. You also motivate your students (even in Kindergarten) by empowering them to do more than what most people believe they can do. #EDpiper
A4: Enthusiasm is contagious- so model it! No sit-and-gets! More student centered classrooms and less teacher centered classrooms! When Ss own their learning, they tend to get excited about it! #edpiper@desotoisdengage
A4P2: High fives and hugs let them know that you care. 1-on-1 convos lead to real moments of trust and learning. Donāt lie to them! Be real and theyāll be real too. #EDPiper
A4: Making connections and building the relationships. I greet my students at the door every day and I have conversations with them about life outside of school. When my students are talking I stop and actually listen, I donāt rush them on so I can move on. #edpiper
Humanizing yourself to Ss is definitely a key point- laughing alongside them, joking, even making mistakes. It allows for a safe space for learning to occur. Great point! #EDpiper
I think making sure S feel important to you is one of the first things a T needs to do. Greeting S by name, giving them a compliment. Another thing to start with is making sure the S see you as a person. Seeing you be silly and make mistakes! #edpiper
If the T is truly enthusiastic, then the kids will usually follow. Do you ever notice that when you arenāt into it, neither are your students? #EDPiper
A1: I agree. No matter what tools I give them to help grow, they just donāt care. It shows in their faces as they walk the hallways, it shows in their demeanor as they are in class, and it shows in their grades. #edpiper
R4: if you are talking about non scholastic hooks, we discuss current events. I let Ss talk to one another. I listen to them. We talk music, sports, current events. #EDpiper
We did a classwide chess tournament (they've been begging me to play), and we did a boomerang video that I posted on my page. Our AP came by to do a walk-through, & celebrated them as well! It was a great start to the week. #EDpiper
Love all the thoughts and heart in this group!! Would love to have you join me and the #r12digin team on Wednesday to discuss coding and computer science. #EDpiper
A4- It starts with the passion of the teacher. Amazing how that passion is carried over to students. Bringing in real objects or a problem needing solved gives students a purpose and reason to learn. We all want to know why are we learning something. #edpiper
It was great to see. They had a budget and had to find a certain number of items and calculate a rate of inflation for next year. They also helped a fellow teacher find a deal already for her kiddos #edpiper
A5: That's a tough one. I think you can't take it personally; maybe there's something else going on in their lives. You just have to keep digging and making connections. #edpiper
A5: Persistent apathy is usually a much deeper problem including possibly depression, disconnect, frustration with the learning process...these kids need a connection, a relationship with someone who can help them understand how to process their feelings #EDpiper
Conferencing to help students see where they were, where they are now, and where they are headed. This strategy is one of @robertjmarzano top strategies for student learning. It can connect the student's level of effort to outcome. #EDpiper
Q2: We start our lesson with our objective, so they focus in on what our goal is, at the end, they tell me if they feel they met it or not. Next I help them tie it to real life, when will you use this, have you ever, this is how I used this yesterday, etc
#edpiper
R5: apathy or enthusiasm starts with internal drive to improve yourself. When you are negative, you flock to those of the same mindset. When you are positive, you flock to those of similar mindset. Apathy or enthusiasm is a choice you make daily. Whatās your choice? #EDpiper
Itās important to recognize that apathy can be related to many underlying issues such as depression, anxiety, tough life circumstances, etc. Sometimes a referral to school counselor or mentor can make a huge difference. #edpiper
A5: Donāt give up yet! Thereās so much more to learn. Weāre only scratching the surface and yes, you will use this lesson some day! Be willing to learn and never ever give up. Do those two things and youāre over halfway there! #EDPiper
A5: everyone likes to succeed; the key is finding what they can SUCCEED at. With parents, many times, it's been their experience that has made them apathetic- we need to change the experience for them and their children & we will see ENTHUSIASM! #EDpiper
A5:I work with HS https://t.co/gYqNAqSD95 is hard when they don't care. Sometimes stress, anxiety, and tough class caseloads look like apathy. Need to really sit down and ask how you can help. They need to see how important things are now so they can see their futures.#edpiper
A3: I love our morning meetings. Ss share how they solved a problem. They love finding different ways. Guided math groups are smaller circles of conversation and learning. Letās not forget technology. There are awesome ways for Ss to have a voice! #EDPiper
Q5: I think I would share a real time that I struggled. I spoke to my students before about being homeless, and loosing everything when I was in 6th grade. Sharing how it was hard to be hopeful, loosing friends,a home. I tell them how hard I have worked now to move fwd.
#edpiper
I think sharing our real experiences and struggles helps connect and let them know struggle happens, but that is when the magic can happen. And how amazing it feels to look back and know you pushed through and what you have because you pushed.
#edpiper
I think we are confusing the āI donāt careā attitude with āI donāt know what to thinkā. We are expecting Ss to be excited about everything we give them. They have been told since day 1 in K what to do. Then we want Ss to think independently. They donāt know how. #EDpiper
A5: Sometimes you canāt address apathy until some immediate needs are met... is the student rested and fed... clean clothes with some stability at home... because when my life is a whirlwind- I experience the most apathy then. Being overwhelmed leads to not trying. #edpiper
So when we want them to be excited about some project or whatever where they have to be creative, their āI donāt careā is more āI DONT KNOW HOWā. Itās fear more than anything. #EDpiper
Final thoughts: How do you maintain student enthusiasm this time of year with so many distractions? #EDpiper
Feel free to share resources, articles, blogs, websites, etc.
There were a couple studies conducted a few years ago doing something similar. They called it the 2 x 10 strategy. You intentionally give student 2 min. of time daily for 10 days. The results showed significant gains in student achievement by just this one strategy. #EDpiper
I greet my students each day as they walk into my classroom. I ask the students about their weekend and activities that take place out of school. I conference with my students about their education and I encourage them to meet their goals. #edpiper
I read a journal review that spoke about individuals not even knowing their own apathy because of their own circumstances limiting that self-recognition. You don't know what you don't know- how can you be enthusiastic about something foreign to you? #edpiper
A5: My husband says, āIf you always do what youāve always done, youāll always be what youāve always been.ā What do you hope and wish for your life/your childās life and what can you do differently to reach that dream? #EDpiper
A4: Have Ss create personal and academic goals. Listen to what your students are saying to you. Enthusiasm is contagious so letās not forget it starts with YOU! Letās also be real, itās not always fun. My Ss know they are in charge of their learning. Itās hard work! #Edpiper
A5- First I would want to know if student was capable and apathetic or a struggling student and apathetic. With capable S, I would work to see how the S could best show their learning. For struggler, I would see where weaknesses are and work to help S build skills. or #EDpiper
Final thoughts: Donāt fight the distractions, use them...work conversations in abt the holidays, abt worries that come from the holiday stress...incorporate more stress relievers that Ss can use at home. #EDpiper
Final: Use the distractions to your advantage. We didn't do 'Halloween' at school, but the whole week before was red ribbon week, so I went all out and had so much fun and my kids LOVED it, I'm telling you teaching while wearing a crown and a big pink tutu is engaging!
#edpiper
FA: Itās hard, but being willing to laugh a little and listen to their stories for a few minutes letās me connect with them. They see I care and so theyāre willing to work for me & w me. #edpiper
Hello, Donna. Yes, our excitement can make anything interesting. Attitude can be our friend or foe. It's all in how we put it in the hands of our students. #EDpiper
Q4: A few years ago we adopted a new math program. I was so EXCITED to share the students ever day. When they saw that I was having fun they naturally joined in the fun. A teacher's attitude is huge. #edpiper
Final Thoughts: High interest topics and texts, as well as heavy student-led lessons to gain enthusiasm and engagement over all the distractions #EDPiper
Ss wont learn from adults they don't feel comfortable with. We start our mornings with a "tell me about it." They get to share anything they want me and the class to know about- it really gets us off on the right foot! #edpiper
There were a couple studies conducted a few years ago doing something similar. They called it the 2 x 10 strategy. You intentionally give student 2 min. of time daily for 10 days. The results showed significant gains in student achievement by just this one strategy. #EDpiper

You are exactly right! Use those distractions to your advantage, but acknowledge that all students may not be excited about an upcoming break/holiday as you. #edpiper
With so many distractions this time of year, teachers can help students with visual reminders of due dates, rubrics to show options & expectations, lots of positive feedback, frequent checks for understanding, tons of shoutouts & smiles. #edpiper
We just had a situation this morning where a trainer told a Ts hi and they said nothing back in return...made us worry abt how the response would have been to a child. #EDpiper
WU: Distractions are going to happen. Donāt fight them. Everything is important but realize we are dealing with kids. I tell mine to be kids. Sometimes we expect them to āgrow upā too fast. Relax and have fun!! #EDpiper
We just had a situation this morning where a trainer told a Ts hi and they said nothing back in return...made us worry abt how the response would have been to a child. #EDpiper
What a great way to celebrate by playing chess. Fun and educational! I bet your kids loved it. I love the idea of playing a game with kids as a celebration, especially because it's free! #EdPiper
Final thoughts: How do you maintain student enthusiasm this time of year with so many distractions? #EDpiper
Feel free to share resources, articles, blogs, websites, etc.
Final thoughts: When you sense Ss are feeling drained and apathetic... keep doing the same work but change the environment. Lights off with only natural light, shoes off, take it outside, etc. A little change from the routine can provide lots of energy! #EDpiper
Hi Tasha! Yes, this does make a huge difference. Our day can be directed on a new path with just a hug or a caring word or two. Just a little bit can make a big difference. #EDpiper
A3: By greeting them in the mornings, finding out their interests, attending outside activities they participate in, eat lunch with them, etc. #EDpiper
Hey, Courtney! That is a great idea. It makes me feel good whenever people remember the things I've told them. I can only imagine how it will boost the confidence of a child. #EDpiper
A4: connecting with a student on something non-school related and actually following up later with a question or comment to show the student you were really paying attention... so important and parents appreciate it too. #EDpiper
Final thoughts: Focus on strengths and celebrate growth. I had a student say āI got 5 out of 10 right this time. Thatās better than 2.ā Iād like to thank Rita Pierson for that.#Edpiper
Yes, I do notice this. It's the same with teacher PD or initiatives we are trying to do, too. Tonight I am reminded that I need to always be excited about what I am leading as well. #EDpiper
If the T is truly enthusiastic, then the kids will usually follow. Do you ever notice that when you arenāt into it, neither are your students? #EDPiper
