  • mmatp - Moderator Mar 15 @ 8:15 PM EDT
frustrating. But it does carry weight with people ONCE they know what it means! #ATchat

    In reply to @mmatp, @rtopp
  • rtopp Mar 15 @ 8:18 PM EDT
A2 - very little. I have gotten some badges though school in a training. #ATchat
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:18 PM EDT
    Small - specific - bite-size - stackable - individual - personalized - learning paths. These are microcredentials. #atchat
  • JoanneSabo Mar 15 @ 8:18 PM EDT
feel ignorant but not sure what you mean #atchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:18 PM EDT
I think we have to differentiate btwn microcredentials and digital badges. #atchat
  • Shaun_SLP Mar 15 @ 8:18 PM EDT
#atchat I am admittedly very confused on the subject!
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:19 PM EDT
I gave kids badges in edmodo for performing certain tasks, demonstrating skills. Kids loved it. As adult learner- not so much. #ATchat
  • wernedat Mar 15 @ 8:19 PM EDT
A2: I wish AOTA would add AT as a digital badge and/or microcredential like it has for other areas of practice #atchat
  • lrdichiara Mar 15 @ 8:19 PM EDT
Happy to be here! Looking forward to learning tonight! #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:19 PM EDT
Digital badges are a way to be recognized for some kind of achievement - it might be effort, an accomplishment, or earned credential #atchat
  • Megmburns02 Mar 15 @ 8:19 PM EDT
    same! #atchat
    In reply to @Shaun_SLP, @bwwojci
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:19 PM EDT
@bwwojci Yes- I am thinking that they are the same #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:20 PM EDT
For example...I earned a digital badge for capturing 100 rock-type Pokemon the other day. It is an accomplishment #atchat
  • MaegeK Mar 15 @ 8:20 PM EDT
A2: I like the idea of both, but am not sure how i would communicate them to stakeholders #ATchat
  • lenettesprunk Mar 15 @ 8:20 PM EDT
Demonstration of ability to apply is a necessity #atchat
  • lrdichiara Mar 15 @ 8:20 PM EDT
Same! Glad I'm not alone here. #atchat
    In reply to @Shaun_SLP, @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:21 PM EDT
Microcredentials are based on competencies - skills that have been identified as necessary to be 'knowledgeable and skilled' #atchat
  • Shaun_SLP Mar 15 @ 8:21 PM EDT
#atchat while I do like the idea, it allows you to tailor your training and education for your interests/population...
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • JoanneSabo Mar 15 @ 8:21 PM EDT
    glad I'm not alone #atchat
    In reply to @Shaun_SLP, @bwwojci
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:21 PM EDT
@bwwojci So, If I can set up core words on an AAC device, is that something you would get a microcredential for? #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:21 PM EDT
Very true @lenettedsprunk - MicroCreds require a demonstration of knowledge or skill to be earned. Demo is necessary. #atchat
  • Shaun_SLP Mar 15 @ 8:21 PM EDT
#atchat how recognized are they by the gen pop?
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:22 PM EDT
    Get ready for Q3... #ATchat
  • mmatp - Moderator Mar 15 @ 8:22 PM EDT
common misconception. there is a difference. Microcreds have potential to change the way people view our skills #ATchat
    In reply to @bcdtech, @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:22 PM EDT
Great point! MicroCreds allow learneers to choose what and how they learn then demonstrate what they learned. #atchat
    In reply to @Shaun_SLP
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
Q3: MicroCred starts with IDing small, stackable, progressive competencies. What are examples of AT competencies? #ATchat
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
@mmatp Who are these "people" employers, people you provide services for?? #ATchat
    In reply to @mmatp, @bwwojci, @mmatp
  • lenettesprunk Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
How do you define what knowledge and skills are necessary? #atchat
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
Yes! If there are competencies that have been identified for Core Words or programming them into a device. #atchat
    In reply to @bcdtech
  • JoanneSabo Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
absolutely- to me this is most important- application knowledge is real - hands on proof - results #atchat
    In reply to @lenettesprunk
  • lrdichiara Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
I can see the potential of this. Just curious what the criteria to earn microcreds would be. #ATchat
    In reply to @mmatp, @bcdtech, @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:23 PM EDT
@lennettesprunk asks a good question...how do you define what are necessary knowledge and skills... #atchat
  • mmatp - Moderator Mar 15 @ 8:24 PM EDT
yes and yes! It would be anyone who might ask "what makes you an "expert" in AT" #ATchat
    In reply to @bcdtech, @bwwojci
  • The_app_guide Mar 15 @ 8:24 PM EDT
    me too. #atchat
    In reply to @lrdichiara, @Shaun_SLP, @bwwojci
  • wernedat Mar 15 @ 8:24 PM EDT
A2: AOTA has board certifications in Peds, and Specialty certs in School systems-but nada for AT-I wonder if it would be helpful... #atchat
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:24 PM EDT
Microcreds can be created by anyone...there are pros and cons with this...to have value they must be recognized as 'credible' #atchat
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:24 PM EDT
@bwwojci But since tech changes constantly - devices, delivery methods, etc... and same is not equal... how to make this list? #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci, @bwwojci
  • lrdichiara Mar 15 @ 8:25 PM EDT
Yes perfect example of badges! #ATchat
    In reply to @missmyersRR
  • wernedat Mar 15 @ 8:25 PM EDT
A3: In FL we have competencies that are recommended for school system AT providers, but they are just recomm not required. #atchat
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:25 PM EDT
So who might create MicroCreds? What competencies are there in AT that might need to be learned, demo'd, and recognized by others? #atchat
  • mmatp - Moderator Mar 15 @ 8:26 PM EDT
A3: AT Competencies include: AT Consideration, AT implementation, expertise in learner need+features of tech #ATchat
  • lenettesprunk Mar 15 @ 8:26 PM EDT
for me this changes daily, hourly. Depending on area, district, staff, kid. #atchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • Shaun_SLP Mar 15 @ 8:26 PM EDT
#atchat so then does there need to specific bodies who create these? Do we need to have the ability to say "that's a __ cred?'
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • wernedat Mar 15 @ 8:26 PM EDT
these competencies cover consideration, implementation, data collect, etc. and knowing things like programming etc. #atchat
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:26 PM EDT
True....but what skills are needed when you go into those environments to serve students? #atchat
    In reply to @lenettesprunk
  • lrdichiara Mar 15 @ 8:26 PM EDT
It would be meaningless if there aren't regulations of some sort to deem who is credible #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • MaegeK Mar 15 @ 8:27 PM EDT
A3: I think we are still figuring that out. I think it depends on the population you work with as well. #ATchat
  • The_app_guide Mar 15 @ 8:27 PM EDT
AT competencies? When you find solutions and people thank you. That means more than certifcations and degrees. #atchat
  • EGraniero Mar 15 @ 8:27 PM EDT
would a microcreditial include googl/ or apple distiquished educator? #atchat
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:27 PM EDT
Yes and no. There are some bodies that are doing it - NY Pub schools, Digital Promise, and others. But.... #atchat
    In reply to @Shaun_SLP
  • mmatp - Moderator Mar 15 @ 8:28 PM EDT
Did you know #ATchat has a @voxer group too? Check out https://t.co/4NWoxLzrWg to sign up
    In reply to @voxer
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:28 PM EDT
Anyone could create a MicroCred. The credibility comes from the transparency of what is needed to achieve the MicroCred. #atchat
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:28 PM EDT
@EGraniero I would hate to have a cred tied to an OS... I used to be really good at Internet Explorer :>) #ATchat
    In reply to @EGraniero, @EGraniero
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:28 PM EDT
For example, if I was learning to crochet, I could earn a MicroCred when I demo'd a single crochet stitch. #atchat
  • JoanneSabo Mar 15 @ 8:29 PM EDT
skill to determine barriers Ss facing based on needs #atchat and need to know how to remove barriers provide access
    In reply to @bwwojci, @lenettesprunk
  • Shaun_SLP Mar 15 @ 8:29 PM EDT
#atchat I almost wish there could be some sort of standard when it comes to this. Anybody could make something sound great!
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:29 PM EDT
Who gave it? What did it take for me to earn it? These things are transparent. Credibility is judged by being explicit and open. #atchat
  • mmatp - Moderator Mar 15 @ 8:29 PM EDT
good point. tools change but a competent AT person focuses on features. ability to match those to needs #ATchat
    In reply to @erinngilmore_
  • bcdtech Mar 15 @ 8:30 PM EDT
@bwwojci I kind of like using the WATI considerations and then, regardless of tech... figuring out how to help #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • EGraniero Mar 15 @ 8:30 PM EDT
    why? #atchat
    In reply to @bcdtech
  • rtopp Mar 15 @ 8:30 PM EDT
so who would you demonstrate to to get the MicroCred #ATchat
    In reply to @bwwojci
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:30 PM EDT
Did you have a standard for learning to operate an AAC device? Did someone set that standard? Is it an imp. skill? #atchat
    In reply to @Shaun_SLP
  • bwwojci Mar 15 @ 8:31 PM EDT
Get ready! Q4 is coming up... #ATchat
