I'm Rebecca from Merced, CA and I teach a tech elective. This year I have an almost blind student so looking for any ideas/resources for the visually impaired. #caedchat
A1 Assistive technology broke down the barriers that people had for us, it allows us to show people how AT can provide people with access, allows them to realize their dreams, & realize that physical limitations don’t define a person w/ a disability. #caedchat
A1 assisitive technology has helped my son write when he couldn't and show evidence of what he really knows without the stress of trying to be like everyone else #caedchat
A1: I have witnessed how assistive technology has allowed relationships to build between students who need the technology and those who don't. Assistive tech opens the world of possibilities #caedchat
A1: Assistive technology removes unnecessary and artificial barriers to learning and achieving. It attempts to make virtually every app and field accessible to those with disabilities. #caedchat
A2 Two words: barriers & believes; a student might have many barriers between learning, I had a hard time with learning how to read. Teachers need to take time to explore with their students. Then teachers must believe in their students & their abilities. #caedchat
definitely it's our profession, students shouldn't be accomodated by my needs as a teacher, instead we need to accomodate our instruction 2 their needs #caedchat

A2: I think about learning how to access the tools you use on a daily basis! How do we effectively teach the use of switch access and move beyond the simple one switch access? I think that is a mindset barrier to moving learners forward with switch access. #caedchat
A2: The challenges that Ss have to overcome depends on the disability. Deaf Ss need ASL interpreters and ability to text back and forth (with those who don't sign). Blind & low vision Ss need text reading or enlargement apps. Ss w/ physical disability may need mobility #caedchat
A3: I imagine your daily routine is very different from those without CP. I imagine you might need to depend on others more than those without CP #caedchat
A3: @sadyspaul so glad you met a teacher who helped you to find your true dreams! Your story is so inspiring. I wonder how your life might be if you had not met Mr. Chopin. #caedchat
A3: I imagine that you need assistance in physical mobility. Yet it appears that it hasn't lessened your determination or ability to achieve your dreams. Perhaps it has made your stronger. #caedchat
A3 I have a lot of challenges, but they don’t affect me anymore. I don’t think about it daily, I learned it won’t change anything. I don’t mind my disability, I can get to hang out with all of you. Also, I have wonderful friends & family to keep me in line. #caedchat

A4 I have too many favorites in my lifetime. My favorite moment is when I got my degree in Digital Cinematography @FullSail. It showed people that they can do anything w/ challenges. Inspiration to me: @AppleEDU#ADEChat & doing this #caedchat
A4 I have many as well, but one has to be meeting you and learning how you advocate for students with disabilities, it reminds me to do my best as a Tt #caedchat
A4:Anything I ever accomplished neither my professional or personal life was a result of the support of many amazing friends and family #fabricofmylife#caedchat
A4: Ten of us started an inclusion school September of 2001. It has been a passion project. So many stories, alum come back in Dec, has a documentary done. @Hopetechschool#caedchat
A4: When I was a reading specialist working with primary Ss w/ reading disabilities, I learned that Apple IIe computers helped them both write and read. We could print legible experience stories. Their frustration disappeared. The "floppy" was my inspiration. #caedchat
A4: It is inspiring to witness each of your accomplishments. I remember your story of Mr. Chopin's class, your graduation, and ADE. It has been a joy to see you accomplish so much in life despite your challenges. I am proud to know you! You inspire many! #caedchat
A4: I believe that any goal we accomplish is a blessing that comes more easily when we recognize those who are a part of the fabric of our life. #caedchat
you made that difference for those Ss, that's all Ss really need, a teacher who learns with them about their disability and how to best help them #caedchat
Q5.I am currently going to college, and I have many goals. What kind of goals do you think I want to accomplish when I am done with college? https://t.co/6jAzCtl4pm#caedchat@sadyspaul
I agree! With iPad it is so much easier to help all students find their talents. Sometimes is is something as simple as the color of the screen or the size of the font. Or even the actual FONT! #caedchat

A5: You have your whole life ahead of you. I would think you could be a great disability rights advocate. In the pedagogical spirit of "show, not tell," your cinematography could be a powerful avenue for expression and teaching. #caedchat
Q6 Being successful and independent in life is important for all of us, how can students w cerebral palsy or any disability achieve success and independence? #caedchat@sadyspaul
Q7.What kind of disability services are available in your state? How can you help families find services for their child with disabilities. I live in North Dakota do you think all services are the same in each state? #caedchat@sadyspaul
A6: Success and independence are linked together. Both require determination regardless of whether one has a disability. I would say we each need to discover our passion, and then move toward it. Believe. Some barriers can be our own roadblocks. #caedchat
A6: It comes back around to people believing that everyone can find success and independence. Teachers, parents, AT creators. Everyone needs to believe and dream of what is possible. #caedchat
A7 Every state has a program that serves individuals with disabilities, ours is The N.D. Department of Human Services. You have to ask what you qualify for and make sure you understand your rights. Services are different in each state for qualifications for assistance. #caedchat
Q8
Just like you I love technology. Can you share some of your favorite & how you use it? Can you guess what my favorite technology may be? #caedchat@sadyspaul
A8 My favorite tech nology is my MacBook Pros, I do everything on them. I have one for school & then another one for editing, work and social media. #caedchat
