Good Evening! Please go ahead and introduce yourself to each other and we will transition to Q1 in a moment. Be sure to tag your responses with #UCPSChat
Tonight we are taking a closer look at #EmpowerED teachers. When answering Q1 please be specific and answer with A1, your response, and tag w/#UCPSChat
A1: As a PLC we've really embraced our data notebooks- For setting and tracking goals with students and for using the data provided to help us reach all of our students, where they are with reading/math/writing. It's been a very powerful tool in the classroom #UCPSChat
A1 #UCPSChat Added written conversations that help structure discussion for students and allow everyone to have a voice - even the quiet contemplative students that don't often volunteer to speak out in a verbal discussion.
Well @ucpschat is just skipping intros and diving right in! Ok...A1: One new strategy I’ve seen (w/adult learners mostly) is the idea of a “Teach Back”. Test your lesson w/colleagues before you teach your Ss! #UCPSChat#TeamUCPS
A1: I’ve added goal setting into my toolkit! Students track their individual goals and we track class goals using scatter plots! Shout out to @AGHoulihan for showing SVES how to implement the scatter plots! Students ❤️ to see their growth! #UCPSChat
Let's take a look at Q2. When answering Q2 be sure to share some online resources (i.e. websites, Twitter handles etc.) if applicable to your responses. #UCPSChat
A1 qft- question formulation technique I’m with my 10th grade social studies teacher and we are tag teaming these responses. Look it up, she’s smart! #UCPSChat
A2: @ucpschat my Instructional Coach is AMAZING! She is constantly asking my "Why" which is huge for an administrator... once I have my why we push forward with next steps! #UCPSChat
A2: I love being with the @UCPS_ICTeam . They always know so much and give me great ideas. They also ask hard questions. My @ncmtss peers are awesome too! #UCPSChat
A2 #UCPSChat Being part of the NCDLCN has allowed me to come together with some great innovative teachers/leaders/mc across the state to share ideas that work. Our school @MarvinRidgeMSNC has always been full of innovative caring teachers too!
A2: my teammates, we plan together and model future misconceptions, and use our data to help drive our instruction. We bring resources that we find and share with each other. #TeamSpartan#UCPSChat
Q2. EVERYONE. Teachers at my school - we all hold each other accountable. Admin colleagues. Coaches. Friends in @NAESP - having that network helps me to think about of the box. #UCPSChat
A2: My PLC (they are fantastic resources for whatever I'm encountering throughout my school day) and I follow quite a few blogs/teachers on TPT/FB/Instagram.... A few I love our The First Grade Parade, Fun In First, Schoolgirl Style, and Lucky To Be In First #UCPSChat
A3: My go-to for help (w/education related questions/challenges)? That’s easy...my dad! @gthoulihan (Need to get him to work on his @Twitter game though). #UCPSChat#TeamUCPS
A3: My mentor (and neighbor) @BonnieMulkeen is always there for me whenever I need and happy to help! My PLC and administrators are also always willing to go out of their way to help me with whatever I need. Stallings is the best! #UCPSChat
A3: depends on the help I need.. my 2 year old does the trick with tough days when I just need a cute smile, but my go to teammate helps with everything else! #UCPSChat
Q3. I'm amending this to say "admin can be overwhelming"...I go to my elementary principal colleagues (@catperryNJ and I have had called each other simultaneously), @jttopp keeps me straight..but sometimes the BEST help I get is from the kids...helps me to refocus. #ucpschat
@ucpschat A3 As a classroom teacher I always leaned o. The wisdom of my department chair. As an administrator I go to colleagues especially the awesome @lgaddy72 for support! #stallingspride#UCPSChat
A2 Even though I’m not a Reading Recovery teacher anymore I still utilize the videos and resources on guided reading and early literacy that @ClemsonReads website offers. I showed several of their video clips in the BT guided reading session today.#UCPSChat
A4: Every day on my drive home I ask myself if the decisions I/the team made today will positively impact Ss and staff and make a difference...every day. Reflective practice is a must! #UCPSChat#TeamUCPS
A4: I'm so blessed to have been a part of a College of Education @UF where we were trained to be reflective practitioners. I reflect all the time. Maybe too much! But it makes me always look to myself first. #noblamegame#UCPSChat
A4: ALL DAY, EVERYDAY... to be an effective anything you have to be reflective. Constantly push yourself, look for ways to be better, and truly listen to your students to gauge effectiveness #UCPSChat@ucpschat
A4: Being in a new role I have to reflect daily. No way around it. You have to reflect to improve. When you stop reflecting you stop improving. It is like an airplane you are either moving forward or falling. #UCPSChat
A4: I’m reflecting pretty much 24-7, especially in the car (when children aren’t talking). I love great PD opportunities too bc they really push you to think hard about your daily practice and how you can get better. #UCPSChat
A4: I try to reflect daily, who got it, who needs more help, who needs to be pulled the next day for extra support, do I need to change the next lesson to accommodate student comprehension of material #TeamITES#UCPSChat
A4. Daily - I've been at this job for a long time, but every day brings a new challenge that I reflect on...learn from successes and failures. #ucpschat
A4 When I was in the classroom I made daily notes on my lesson plans in order to better prepare for the next lesson. As an administrator I write in a journal daily to reflect and refine #UCPSChat
@ucpschat A4: Every day, multiple times a day. I often talk with 1 of my talented counselors during the day for reflection, feedback, and perspective. #UCPSChat#TheyreNotJustForStudents
A4: I reflect daily. I run the day through my mind and consider if I did everything I could to make a personal connection with each student. #UCPSChat#TeamUCPS
A4 Reflection happens every day- really after each lesson! It helps me continually grow and do my best and also allows me to keep setting goals for my Sts and myself! This is a crucial piece to always doing your best! #UCPSChat
A4 I reflect daily on what worked and what I can do to improve a lesson, my PLC and I also bounce thoughts off of each other for future planning! #ucpschat
#ucpschat Constantly. In PLCs with grade level data- drives our lessons and assessments. Personally- drives behavior plans, methods of teaching, activities & grouping... Emotionally- Communicate with parents and Ss to build relationships & apologize when needed. @BentonHeightsES
@ucpschat A4: Teachers have become more reflective as they have how to better use data. Informed decision making comes from honest reflection coupled with authentic assessment. #UCPSChat
A4: I've been looking back at the end of each week to see how everything went by examining my student data and looking for ways I can support/enhance my instruction in the classroom. Weekly reviews allow me to plan my future lessons/plans to best support students #UCPSChat
@UCPSchat A4: everyday I am asking for feedback and guidance .. my motto is “do what’s best for kids” If what I’m doing doesn’t match that motto then I need to reboot- #TeamUCPS#UCPSchat
Hey @ucpschat, before we get out of here, how many Ts are using @Twitter chat to dialogue w/Ss abt relevant topics? Forum is a great way to collaborate w/colleagues and share best practices but can also be used as a teaching tool. #UCPSChat#TeamUCPS
A4: I try to reflect after round 1 and make changes, but definitely each lesson has to re-evaluated annually to accommodate all our great, new resources. Self-reflection occurs daily. #UCPSChat
A4: I've been looking back daily see how everything went by examining my student data and looking for ways I can support/enhance my instruction in the classroom. Frequent reviews allow me to plan my future lessons/plans to best support students #UCPSChat
A4: After each lesson and on the way home. Always thinking and asking: did Ss get it, what worked, what could I do different, where do we go next! Reflection is key! #UCPSChat
A4: we ALL learn best fr our mistakes... reflecting on how to produce a better outcome is a way of life & must b continuous. Being open to the reflections of others is vital in education. #UCPSChat
A4: One of my college professors said "You change what you can change to help students meet your expectations." I reflect daily on how I can do better, by either bouncing ideas off peers or while I drive home. #UCPSChat
