Q1 No, this was my first in Denton.
Wow - can't count. Went to one and then was addicted. The learning is top notch - https://t.co/MWGCJ8HSbv
Q1: Have you attended an ? If so, how many and why did you go?
I've been to probably 5-10 edcamps. First because I was curious. After because I was addicted to format!
Here is Q1 in case you missed it ---->>> https://t.co/WLe3UDiTft
Q1: Have you attended an ? If so, how many and why did you go?
A1: I've attended two! Curious for the experience of open-ended learning and dialogue!
I love I try to be as many as possible. KS has very few though. I even attend other states via GHO
A1 yes and if you haven't what is holding you back. It WILL make you hate other conferences
Hey Alicia!! This is an incredible 1st year T, friends!
Have not attended an "official@ edcamp, maybe soon! :(
A1: I have been to two local technology/curriculum conventions, but not an actual educamp.
Opps forgot A1 -- I love connecting with Ts via
A1: Been to one...great learning experience as an introvert it was a more comfortable learning and growth time for me
A1: I take the "Rule of Two Feet" to every conference I attend. And my tolerance for lectures is quite low.
Great idea - Attend edcamps via GHO - I should have done that this weekend!!! https://t.co/bFiTLFPTB6
I love I try to be as many as possible. KS has very few though. I even attend other states via GHO
A1 I have participated in more than two hand full even if you have 6 fingers
A1: I've been to one local edcamp & will attend my 2nd one at the end of the month. Such a gr8 way 2 learn & connect!
A1 Yes I have attended 1, and my next 1 is next Sat. I wanted some relevant PD.
A1) I've been known to attend an Edcamp or two or three... I went because I enjoy learning! (i've lost count)
Bridget Visser, Literacy Specialist joining a little late tonight because of decorating heart cupcakes! :)
Going to my first edcamp this spring in Phila.
A1: Not yet but so excited to be attending my first on Feb. 27.
hello...you are one of the many Texas folks I know!! 😀😀
I have attended several and organized a few. I love that they're always so different, always worthwhile. https://t.co/HFW8HJmI8o
Q1: Have you attended an ? If so, how many and why did you go?
I am on the planning group for 4 of them
A1 Yes!! Just attended , the granddaddy of them all. Over 600 educators in attendance. Incredible experience.
never thought about it from that POV. Thanks for saying that. I Can see how this would be good for that reason
A1: love edcamps & have attended a few & hosted a couple. Biggest reason why, I control my learning & connect w/ other edus.
Hi, Barbara, k-5 art teacher from RI. Following along and seeing what you have to say
A1: yes, 1st was , went bc it was a new experience & I wanted to learn & grow
A1 Haven't yet attended any, but on my bucket list to do this year.
a1: I've attended some tech classes that were camp-like. But never an . I find I get most from interacting w/peers
I normally spend the day sharing when I attend . Ts are hungry to learn more & how to use in
My school district is starting to do some PD days in an edcamp fashion.
Dang... 600! How awesome. The largest in person one that I have attended was probably around 300
https://t.co/tHW5vmRzqJ
A1 Yes!! Just attended , the granddaddy of them all. Over 600 educators in attendance. Incredible experience.
urbie, instructional designer and drone pilot from out Arizona way
A1: I haven't! I missed the one in Katy this past year!
Hi from Pittsburgh, A1 attended several times, great learning, building, choices!
Any thoughts on ed camps now that you've experienced one Margie?
A1 going to my first out of state Edcamp later this year
A1: Going to edcamps are like being on an energizing twitter chat...but better! Cuz now you're meeting tweeps F2F! So cool!
A1: Wanted to attend , but I will be presenting to SpED teachers on that day! Will be following along.
A1 I've attended 3 edcamps & 1 global b/c I wanted to connect with like-minded educators.
A1 I have been to 10 edcamps. why? I am addicted to the conversations and ideas being shared between educators in various roles.
intro: Sean in . I run a monthly meetup (EdTech Austin). I love education, technology, and everything in between!
Woot woot! Which one? Please say California.
I've been to Nevada! Yay Vegas! https://t.co/lkGQdm6AgU
A1 going to my first out of state Edcamp later this year
A1: Did not attendd but definitely enjoyed seeing all of the tweets about it!
I learned from the most fabulous mentor!
If I can't be at an I following allowing via Twitter ... I love it when Ts share!
What elements make camps such a draw?
I've been to twice and met Edcamp Baltimore guru this week at
I agree. There's something so comforting about the atmosphere in edcamps.
A1: Sadly no, I helped organize one, but then wasn't able to attend... has a date set for 7/27
same here! Our tomorrow morning PD is semi Ed camp style.
I am going to in a couple months to visit my TN friends
Attending from afar is fun too!
https://t.co/Dh5hDdTO8Q
If I can't be at an I following allowing via Twitter ... I love it when Ts share!
A2: Meeting new people and expanding that PLN

If I can't be at an I following allowing via Twitter ... I love it when Ts share!
A1: Sadly, none! They haven't really taken off in SC... Interested in attending/hosting one
because they are comfortable yet make your brain think really hard - energizing, thought provoking https://t.co/54K2NGf1cs
Also attended Edcamp Southern Illinois. It was small but many passionate educators there.
A2: Edcamps are easy and accessible points of entry into dialogue and learning.
A2 - are popular 1 they are free unless you buy a shirt. ;-) 2 You learn, share & connect with like minds
A1-I've been to 6 and I've walked away with so much info & don't sleep well because my mind keeps going! https://t.co/A92xeHBFDZ
Q1: Have you attended an ? If so, how many and why did you go?
A2: Why? Because they're fun, exciting, you meet new people, and you learn a ton! Plus, there's usually food!
EdCamps are self-directed learning, learner driven, they are transformative, positive, and fun. https://t.co/L2O2uYfHCy
A2 it is the essence of the idea of democracy of learning titles at the door
A2: the format. Topics are proposed day of, speakers are assigned based on experience, what they can contribute.
A2 and the people that are there want to be there, this is a game changer. Everyone is excited and wants to learn and help others
A2: Popular because they are the ultimate , led by educators who are in the field, free, and based on Ts needs
Carolyn Davis here from North Texas. Enjoyed spending day with great educators.
Is there a schedule of when all of the are for the year? So intrigued and would like to go!
A2 Since they are "by teachers, for teachers" they are immediate and relevant. Awesome to see the experts among us.
A1: Have gone to our district one each summer, but this year went to with b/c we love learning!
so what if Pearson asks to sponsor do you take the money?
Love that. Love learning from different perspectives.
https://t.co/DVwwEZG66m
A2 it is the essence of the idea of democracy of learning titles at the door
A2: You also have a chance to meet your Twitter friends in real-life. :)
Definitely great learning experiences John, believe some of my best learning in last few years came from camps
You can't beat free, fun & loads of interaction w/ fellow edutweeps!
Hey, ! Joining in late after Valentine’s dinner. was great yesterday. Here’s a tweet archive: https://t.co/JP1HTMaUCo
A1 Yes. 4 x 10^1. in '13 was my first.. I needed to learn innovative and engaging techniques. I got more: a PLN.
With hopes of you attending, no
:-P
A2: Edcamps are more of a conversation that a sit and get lecture. Loved hearing ideas from different educators.
A1: I attended the two edcamps I've been part of to push my thinking and connect with other educators. Success on both fronts!
A2: I hear they're a good way to network and to have an active role in your professional learning!
A2 while I haven't attended a real I am excited bc I have coordinated a campus for tomorrow!
3. for me. 2 X for & once to
You cannot beat free stuff.
Washington Teaching Ambassador Fellow from Leander ISD. In D.C. but Texan for life.
I will be there at I am already pre-registered
A2: Because edcamps are free and many teachers (especially new ones) don't have access to traditional conferences.
Hopefully we can continue to show those setting PD agenda the power of choice/personalized PD
A2 Because they are T led and the PD is relevant. If it isn't, they can use their feet!
A2: it's organic. Traditionally PD is something done to us. Edcamps do the opposite and ur surrounded w/ like minded peers
unless they were to give you money and free stuff.
A2) Edcamps are so popular because they are participant driven. Sessions are what you bring to them.
I'm also a co-organizer for
Ts know that they can get exactly what they need from EdCampSIL. If they don't see a good session, they create one
A2 Edcamps are popular because you choose what you want to learn. NOT a presentation.*Rule of 2 ft makes it more convenient.
Note that this list isn't always comprehensive. Do a quick google search for big cities near you! https://t.co/naU4nwnto5
THIS --->>> https://t.co/SO79paFtxJ
A2) Edcamps are so popular because they are participant driven. Sessions are what you bring to them.
Super excited about spring, there is an EdCamp almost every other weekend in my area, planning on attending 3-4 and presenting
Thanks for this! Just bookmarked it for future reference
A2 because you get to meet twitter famous people like and and possibly
Great way to put it Matt, we have the ability to drive discussion/topics/agenda in these formats
Yes. Many conferences that I want to attend are out of my budget. Highly recommend my favorite free conference, !
Hello from Texas Craig- hope all is well
A2: creates a more comfortable environment. Everyone's input is valid...no sage on the stage mentality.
. I like deciding on the spot what we're going to discuss. I like being able to guide the discussion.
A2 Voice and choice! We pick what we want to learn and we choose to wander through sessions, if need be. Personalization is 💯.
that's a huge factor! I didn't realize how pricey most are! My P is sending me to and I feel very blessed!
A2 I believe the concept of an "un"conference is attractive. In a world fueled by $ and position--it's refreshing!
A2 sessions are not canned. They are from the really real world
Interesting point: PD is done TO US but is done with like minded peers who want to be there. https://t.co/b7pYL22FAG
A2: it's organic. Traditionally PD is something done to us. Edcamps do the opposite and ur surrounded w/ like minded peers
A2: EdCamps are popular bc educators like control over their learning. We all have something to share. Connecting is powerful!
Mel Sailer 5th grade science A1 yes I have gone to 2, to learn
Q3: Does your organization award credit for informal learning experiences? Should they?
Congratulations! Yeah I'm very picky about the conferences I choose to pay for now. https://t.co/97bSdeK7so
that's a huge factor! I didn't realize how pricey most are! My P is sending me to and I feel very blessed!
A2) Edcamps are like a twitter chat, except in person!. It's a party with your PLN!
A2 They're messy and fun in the way mud pies are messy and fun. You gotta dig deep in the ooze to make the best connections.
Q3 retweet --- >> https://t.co/Cj2eXzJtE6
Q3: Does your organization award credit for informal learning experiences? Should they?
A2: EdCamps thrive because positive learning environments are contagious. The GENIUS is let loose and everyone is better for it!
Love this. Room is the expert, conversations are spontaneous, organic, and fluid. Can flow anywhere. https://t.co/msyHLY9w2i
. I like deciding on the spot what we're going to discuss. I like being able to guide the discussion.
A2: Edcamps are so popular because it creates discussion without boundaries. The conversation flows through the room & online
This was one reason I went! Happy I did too! https://t.co/F6TcsRSCRJ
A2: Because edcamps are free and many teachers (especially new ones) don't have access to traditional conferences.
our superintendent is a huge advocate of these types of learning experiences - https://t.co/PitsrsFmyp
Q3: Does your organization award credit for informal learning experiences? Should they?
A3 not really. Higher Ed doesn't value the Edcamp model
THIS --->>> https://t.co/TyjrZos6t9
A2 They're messy and fun in the way mud pies are messy and fun. You gotta dig deep in the ooze to make the best connections.
A1 Had a blast at yesterday in Denton - went bc reached out!! Loved mtg new & familiar passionate educators!!
A3 My school will if you provide proof of attendance.
YES! It's PD on your own terms! Kind of like ! You learn what U WANT to learn about!
https://t.co/ZkofdKRGGz
A2: it's organic. Traditionally PD is something done to us. Edcamps do the opposite and ur surrounded w/ like minded peers
Especially when it's free and you're not bored out of your mind. https://t.co/R78BYPXGnv
Who doesn't love an opportunity to learn with other ?
Lucky girl!! I went to the first one earlier this yr in Chicago...great learning...even had a mini edcamp rolled in!
that is the straight truth
A3: Unfortunately no. Yes, absolutely.
Yes! Knowing that the others in the room are in the trenches with us makes what they have to say more powerful!
A3) I'm not sure if they fully understand the Edcamp model. We don't really "need" credit right now.
We are hoping to break this down... :) That is the reason for having them on campus at a Uni https://t.co/CJURLky9Nw
A3 not really. Higher Ed doesn't value the Edcamp model
Overall, no. But I think a department within the district is changing that with Twitter chat for CPE hours.
if they did you may see a few fake edcamps pop up a mill
what boss wouldnt be excited that his teachers are choosing to learn, they want to learn, they spend their time learning
A3: Not really... It has to be "approved" - it absolutely should! Best PD learning comes from untraditional PD sessions
Very well put Samantha, it was wonderful to hear your views yesterday at !
A2 voice & choice & collaboration make edcamps the goto pd
A1 Terrie from mighty Bluejay land! Katy, TX 4th ELA/ss I left school late on Friday, so I couldn't attend! 😭 0
A3 This year, Webster University in St Louis offered an hour of graduate credit for the experience.
if it isn't AERA they don't care
Sorry to hear this... We agree with you that when learners are motivated LEARNING happens. https://t.co/xKouV92xoF
A3: Not really... It has to be "approved" - it absolutely should! Best PD learning comes from untraditional PD sessions
A3: No, unfortunately we do not...just hosted and really wanted to be able to give CPE credit, but not certified to
Here is Q3 in case you missed it ---->>> https://t.co/R7j2Yi2H4s
Q3: Does your organization award credit for informal learning experiences? Should they?
how excited are we as Ts when a S comes in and says look what I did this weekend-and theyve researched and created
We need to engage them in ed camps & show how they can grow/improve programs as result
A3: Please no credits/CPE for EdCamps. If you can't describe your learning you didn't. If you can, that's your reward, not a cert
Not necessary Reward comes from positive energy & learning. I see immediate improv w/ Ss after an EdCamp https://t.co/qJM36zhzBs
Q3: Does your organization award credit for informal learning experiences? Should they?
sorry folks has now been changed to
I think a hybrid model would work well too. Part prepared sessions and then edcamp
https://t.co/vb23t8I0AJ
A2 voice & choice & collaboration make edcamps the goto pd
A3 I'm not sure if we get credit....going to find out tomorrow.
A3 No, yes they should. Until the top people experience it for themselves and understand the value that will be up in the air.
most places don't acknowledge it as "learning" if they did, would it still be as valuable?
Being new to this ....What does this mean? event: EDCAMP INDEPENDENT ATX
It takes time/patience to get this conversation started. Research & publishing by and others helps
Nice, we need more schools doing this!
A3: I'm not sure, but one was hosted in a Katy school this year so I think they might!
A2: Choice in what you learn for sure! Getting to F2F talk with ppl really deepens relationships which deepens learning. :)
they would want to control it if they did
A3 Our District offers Tech Tuesdays, & Mac Mondays for informal sharing edu tech w/ peers & CEUs are provided for the sessions
Good evening all. Michelle Griffith, Lead Media Specialist for Brazosport. So sorry I'm late.
If districts want passion-driven learning, they can start counting Ts' learning experiences toward in-service hours.
A3: yes&all organizations sld,pd isn't 1 size fits all & you get as much or more from edcamps as you do from a traditional conf
is doing some awesome research on edcamps
Keep us posted. If you need anything from us to document your attendance we can do that https://t.co/E15oCQ6brb
A3 I'm not sure if we get credit....going to find out tomorrow.
A3: Planning an edcamp-style faculty mtg to promote teacher autonomy and expertise.
A3: ours does not aside from a tech badge, think it may prove beneficial to "get some toes in the water"
Its the convo and feedback from a peer that lights you on fire! Might not need that as CA is in a drought! 😏!
A3 Would be nice at the collegiate level...not sure how it would work.
They can't hope to control it... they can only hope to contain it!!!
https://t.co/TXKToUIgju
they would want to control it if they did
what if we created an "edcamp' for anyone attending a school board meeting one month
A3 Yes! We do have to enter it ourselves and have some sort of proof (like a certificate) and the hours/credits are awarded.
Brian, LMS Lakeside JHS Springdale, AR
Very true, we set the agenda and vote w/our feet in sessions so we are in control!
Is the credit system antiquated?? I want Ts who want to learn, not attending something because they need credit.
A3 Yes they should! It is authentic, relevant learning. Ideas shared by Ts who are in the classroom daily.
A3 Sort of. I can enter hours in our LMS (learning management system) but it's more personal for me than that. Sharing is IT..
I think the important thing is if we acknowledge it as learning, and does it improve Ss learning? https://t.co/CYsVR0uCbg
most places don't acknowledge it as "learning" if they did, would it still be as valuable?
Q3 Our district does not. I believe they should award credit. Many folks do webinars, informal "edcamps" etc.
. I like this model! I think I'd also like a mod for each decamp session to ensure the convo flows
exactly,& would you go? I have been waiting for formalizing EdCamp last year to cause issues, any yet?
Yes, it was! I had a prior commitment!
So true, reminds me of a question from an administrator once about why Twitter chats had value, explained just that!
good luck on that one. I have two faculty that are slightly interested
I also believe that when you are seeking out the knowledge, you are more apt to put it into practice
A3: at the moment, no. They should because attempts from educators to continue to grow should be recognized.
if they would watch just one twitter chat and the spark thats created they would understand (i hope)
. you're in SoCal? I'm sure there's are Edcamps in the LA area.
A1: went to 1 this fall-would like to attend more & bring them to my campus
I would go to make them hate me more
you could try to look a little different. Was your session called teach like a garden gnome?
Yes, my thought exactly! I attend EdCamps because I want to get better for me and my students, not credit https://t.co/5NRynn3yvP
Is the credit system antiquated?? I want Ts who want to learn, not attending something because they need credit.
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
A2 b/c unstructured, choose our learning, everybody can lead, build , variety of choices,
I might have a couple posted on but not sure because I'm mostly Texas-focused
Q4 retweet --->> https://t.co/BtzwLybeu1
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
We go the extra mile in our learning and it would be great for districts to recognize that. Makes us better teachers
Sometimes Edcamps can provide more value and resources than structured PD. Speaking from personal experience.
A3 I'm leading a 6 week book study 4 Ts in a blended learning format for CEUs Great way to share professional texts with peers
A YouTube channel - just the way the other teachers were using this. I knew it was a must https://t.co/VoMGz4kTjq
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
if we acknowledge it as learning what changes to accomplish that?Does it hinder EdCamp?
A3) No credit given for informal learning. We often are called upon to present at PD if we let someone in our informal learning
A4: So many things to list, but overall taking risks. Many times on , I mentioned that I took a big risk with Twitter. Now, <3 it.
A4 - How to use tools such as Padlet and Symbaloo with Ss.
A4) We participated in the Global Read Aloud as a result of informal learning.
Thanks
did you notice my rainbow weave on the side
Yep EdCamp Independent ATX is in Austin
A3 they definitely should I know that I got to so many outside the district that sometimes I take pics for proof.
Maybe I can attend this one! Jason, you had something earlier this year: I remember!
Participants’ motivations are intrinsic at . Would district credit or district-run unconferences change that?
rule of 2 ft was diff for me & hard to break my habit of staying put
A3: Our amazing district uses Personalized Lrning Plans & is amazing at "counting" evidence of our lrning in variety of ways!
A4 This year we have done a few STUDENT EdCampSIL with our kids. Turned out beautifully!
less people would show up due to being worried about narks
I also answered by asking who wouldn't want their Ts communicating on ed, reflecting, connecting to improve?
Good night . Need to bow out early. So. Very. Tired. Thanks for the chat & I hope everyone has an awesome week ahead!
. is in the Houston area March 5! And is usually in April.
So many tools, so little time! https://t.co/eYwje9ZOFf
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
let's say I don't follow the rules
A4: looking forward to trying out an edcamp at my school. Considering trying it w/Ts and Ss both
it is hard to understand until you have your a-ha moment
A4 I also learned about Rock & Suck via & how to ask questions and really listen to the feedback
And we are all better for it by having you adding to our learning!
A4 I started using Google Classroom with Ts to model how they can use it with their Ss in a variety of ways.
Here is Q4 --->>> https://t.co/kALAH3JTnZ
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
Agreed! So many things I cannot list them all.
A4: Self-refection for my & for me! It helps show me where they are in the process & the gaps in the material
A4: Edcamps helped me implement a flipped classroom with many iterations. Slowly improving over time.
A4 my class room is like an Edcamp. Students pick the projects they want to do and the tool needed to complete
A3 - SB members have a min nmber of SB trng hrs/yr...that nmber doesn't define me. How do we drive lrng culture? &sticks
have you even figured out what they are yet?
A4 This year we have done a few STUDENT EdCamps. They turned out beautifully
I think so. Or it would change the crowd and have negative impact on the learning environment.
A4: Ss run EdCamp in class with ss choice for my 2nd graders last year. They LOVED it!
A4: Because of Twitter and taking that first step, I am now encouraging others to take risks and partake in informal learning.
Absolutely. https://t.co/tHI6JtQ8Fz
A3 an organization should not stop using from learning elsewhere u r learning and bringing back your ur colleagues that's key#txeduchat
A4: , , , campus Twitter acct, so many great things... modeling constant learning for Ts
I haven't requested credit for an Edcamp but will try tomorrow. Usually need a certificate with hours . https://t.co/hBpreqUoVo
Q3: Does your organization award credit for informal learning experiences? Should they?
and the conversations on how others use tools with Ss is
Okay we need to do this! :)
https://t.co/W13vMTZMdG
A4: Ss run EdCamp in class with ss choice for my 2nd graders last year. They LOVED it!
This sounds like a grand idea! Procedures with Sts?
A4: As a Lit. Specialist, I was able to create a smore with some of my takeaways and send to the teachers I work with.
Thank you! :) So glad that I found
A4: as the principal it's allowed me to share ideas w/ staff & bring staff with me to edcamps.
More than anything, mindset, but so many tools resources & strategies. IE: and https://t.co/qKj0KSVlK9
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
I have decided that if I ignore them the rules will go away
Same here. came about because of a side convo during a Twitter chat!
YES! I loved this one! It was seriously my favorite! :)
A4: Learned about KidBlog, Quad Blogging, Blab, flipping classroom, Minecraft, makerspaces, Genius hour, and so much more
Leadership & culture can certainly empower us as learners ourselves
Q4 Dot day, sessions, , hour of code. PLNs too many to list. Most important - connections!
A4 Flipping and blending: all because of one of our previous chats!
To add 2 Q3 do any of you have districts that allow twitter chats as PD? Should that be allowed?
that generally works for other unwanted things right? Except glitter, which is never unwanted
Been bouncing this idea around w/ my admins too. day for Ss. Biggest problem = Ss running to class! https://t.co/Xrz5rAQC5v
A4: Ss run EdCamp in class with ss choice for my 2nd graders last year. They LOVED it!
YES! Never heard of until recently. :)
Here is a good question: Can you help https://t.co/5LhRe8hcdn
To add 2 Q3 do any of you have districts that allow twitter chats as PD? Should that be allowed?
sometimes its not even just something 2 implement in class - its the passion that the people attending the camp embrace
maybe I should be the rip torn of edcamps
A4: As a preservice teacher, I hope to implement a flipped classroom.
A4: best idea was bringing the idea of back to district and hosting a like campus edcamp w/ peers
, looking forward to bringing edcamp opportunities to my Ts and Ss. Any advice?
Our district does and yes it should be allowed. Superintendent is if you have questions
Good question. It seems Katy ISD has a district-supported chat . And Lancaster ISD https://t.co/Ehsf1AfGft
To add 2 Q3 do any of you have districts that allow twitter chats as PD? Should that be allowed?
That is a SUPER problem to have! :)
So true but isn't the same choice and voice available 24/7 to each of us? https://t.co/JzMk8f539k
A2 Voice and choice! We pick what we want to learn and we choose to wander through sessions, if need be. Personalization is 💯.
A4 I've started using & in my classroom due to informal learning. Fab resources
A4: Reading everyone's answers about implementing new things makes me even more excited to attend my first edcamp!
Q5: How have personal relationships from your informal learning experiences or changed your teaching?
A4 Moviemaker; AR; ; ; Twitter; Google sites; blogging;
It simply be the action of the leader asking "What do you want to learn" that changes the culture of the school
A4 Plotagon came out of Region 14 . brought me to . It's a long list o' stuff I can do now, esp prototyping
Just realized that March 5 would be a busy day of learning for a lot of Houston Ts.
you have to trust students and let them personalize their work
Oh yeah! Love learning about new tools and thinking of different ways of using them through
https://t.co/BZj1juJJRS
A4 I've started using & in my classroom due to informal learning. Fab resources
How about start w/unconfernece/self selected PD option in staff meetings/training days in addition to mandated?
If admins ask about edcamps invite them! Never met an admin who complained after attending. https://t.co/F2kmSqrg7l
Will you share when you do? I'd like to try it!
Q5 retweet --->> https://t.co/yyP7dBn0gj
Q5: How have personal relationships from your informal learning experiences or changed your teaching?
THIS!
And is leading the charge making meaningful change happen like always! https://t.co/h38PoEWOvx
A4: best idea was bringing the idea of back to district and hosting a like campus edcamp w/ peers
I just want to post the image
A3 - SB membs have a min nmber of SB trng hrs/yr...that nmber doesn't define me. How do we drive lrng culture? &stcks
. oh? What else is happening March 5?
I know who to go to for what. Who is the expert in this or that. It's the best and the friendships :) https://t.co/Zs4dP58Wd6
Q5: How have personal relationships from your informal learning experiences or changed your teaching?
Yes, we can submit these as evidence in our PLP! Screenshot! Chats should absolutely be credited- IMO! https://t.co/M0NNickpNb
To add 2 Q3 do any of you have districts that allow twitter chats as PD? Should that be allowed?
A4 - Learned at how to use my own YouTube channel and Google drive to share info. What a difference.
A4 more new ideas read books Ss try classrm
We host twitter chats in our district and I hosted one with my PLC - no credit was awarded, but none was sought.
I hear you but it felt weird, like I had bull's eye on my! Hoping I'll be better next time :)
A4 By a strange combination of fortunate events an led me to which brought me to . It's all good..
A5: Where else would I find all the people I go to for specific problems except in edcamps (and now Voxer). Easier than Twitter.
Me too. Gotta pick someone's brain about how to use that at the campus level.
A5: Personal relationship serve as a great to lean on & to turn to if you need help.
. and are happening on March 5.
A5 the connections made with other educators have opened the doors for exciting global learning opportunities.
A5 - building a relationship with like minded Ts have changed how I see being connected really means. I try to model that for Ss
I use for flipping and blended learning!
I'm always thinking about how I want my classroom to work as a preservice T, attending brought my ideas to life.
Here is Q5 in case you missed it --->>> https://t.co/wkjFSD9TYS
Q5: How have personal relationships from your informal learning experiences or changed your teaching?
A5: More than anything in the last 2 years, the relationships developed from connecting online & at EdCamps have made me who I am
a5 I encourage my Ss to share ideas with each other.
Oh yep but is in the Dallas area so bring everyone to in Houston! https://t.co/hQTc7N6YfQ
. and are happening on March 5.
I haven't always had a beard. I change looks up frequently
A5: I look forward to attending one in the future for this purpose!
A5) There are so many within my PLN that stretch and challenge my thinking. They push me to be better.
A5: Expanding my PLN through Twitter & PLNs has been integral to re-energizing & re-creating my teaching continually.
A5 They've driven the fear of technology out of this veteran teacher!
: Oops. I should have said "Texas" area.
more info on Quad Blogging???
A5 It has expanded my PLN and made me more reflective of my own teaching practices.
A5 We find that we are not alone anymore. There are a LOT of like-minded teachers out there. It is validating.
Every preservice T should attend an just b/c of the amazing discussion & relationships gained w/ service Ts.
Q5 encourage Ss to work with each other helps build their relationships.
A5 Had a GREAT convo with at . We didn't know each other before that day and made an impromptu session!
And Twitter isn't even that tough! But I agree, it's the easiest environment for many to connect in
A5: I also like when I get to have the occasional chat about social justice issues at an edcamp. Need more of those.
A4 Helped me see how making connections & building relationships can help when you are trying to implement new things.
A5: Always love learning from , , , , , + other 's Ts + admins.
A5: Expanding my PLN has allowed me different perspectives, a large pool of knowledge to draw from and friends 4 motivation
A5a I design PD for clinicians. In that realm teaching was sit/get. My contribution post is being fearless with HMWs..
no but I know a few tweeps that do...think it should but I confess that I've not asked
A5: My empowers me. Has given me confidence as an introvert to get off my island and come out of shell. Helped me to grow
A3 growing is key Ive been to many that I forget to credit them. I enjoy learning but sometimes school politics get involved
I've 'borrowed' so many ideas due to the interaction/trust built with like minded educators https://t.co/IypSLbTHuG
Q5: How have personal relationships from your informal learning experiences or changed your teaching?
A5: Facilitating EdCamp sessions has been great for collaborating on topics with others plus always growing my PLN!
Voxer!! So many great discussions and bookclub stat have grown me. is the best Voxer facilitator ever!
. yep, I just know Tweets can often go out into the void. Especially if you're new and have few followers.
Agreed. Just like every preservice teacher should be required to participate in edchats
Check out and and add classrooms to your search.
this blog post/idea is FABULOUS! I've been grappling w how to use ELT time more effectively and this read my mind!
THIS --->>> https://t.co/k2BIeai9Fz
A5: My empowers me. Has given me confidence as an introvert to get off my island and come out of shell. Helped me to grow
It's essentially partnering with other classes to blog, comment, and learn from one another.
A5: it's the F2F interactions I look forward to, just as much as the learning.
A5b I prototype like nobody's business. When a description doesn't work a quick animation or green screen clip rocks it
True, but it's a great gateway for us introverts :)
A5 It's a way for me to build my PLN & connect w/ amazing people!
. Edcamps need move beyond just tech & delve into community connections, social justice, culturally responsive teaching.
most of the EdCamps I have been to, & conferences for that matter, have had a stark lack of diversity, limits that convo
a6 - yikes...it didnt really :(
I’m jumping in late to - Tracie in Texas!
have really opened doors for me to connect, share and learn from others. I've grown both personally & as a teacher
A5: From learning from 's Ts + admins, it encourages me to push myself to be the best T for Ss + leader for my campus.
A5 The connections with like minded Ts are limitless & boundaries are blurred due the informal learning.
A6 I learned a lot about being in the classroom during my time in my college ed program. I also learned a lot on the job
A5: It is the relationships from Twitter & edcamps that have COMPLETELY changed my teaching, inspired me & shaped my thinking!
A5: Making connections & learning from other Ts motivates me to take risks to try new strategies for the benefit of the Ss.
https://t.co/xOY97oVkGr
A5: It is the relationships from Twitter & edcamps that have COMPLETELY changed my teaching, inspired me & shaped my thinking!
A6) We can work to implement ideas that were discussed and continue to connect with others that we connected with at edcamp
A5 One thing I noticed during was the summary video clips. THAT was new and puts an exclamation point on it.
I have recently heard that referred to as "borrowing brilliance".
. yes x 10e30. Can't just spend all our time in "progressive" spaces ignoring our multicultural students/communities
A5 I encourage Ss to make connections outside of our classroom and building to learn more from others https://t.co/EGGwEfwHT8
Here is Q5 in case you missed it --->>> https://t.co/wkjFSD9TYS
Q5: How have personal relationships from your informal learning experiences or changed your teaching?
A5 College prepared me for the teaching of that day, but if I hadn't kept learning I wouldn't be able to teach the students today
Yep. That's a conversation that's tougher in person, but more valuable than most edu conversations.
and grossly underserved in my opinion...
I think if more parents attended they would truly get an idea of how T's r working to build a learning environment.
A5: met tweeps F2F & made connections that enable me to reach out to others to learn, changed bc they challenge me to grow
That all depends on the learners. There is not a standard for Edcamps. The people drive those conversations.
A4: I learned of Number Talks while co-facilitating a session at the EdCampDallas. Reveals Ss thinking https://t.co/Lo6qurrcDH
So many tools, so little time! https://t.co/eYwje9ZOFf
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
This is so important - we have to be life-long learners in order to teach. We must evolve our pedagogy https://t.co/JJ9kH8dIcp
A5 College prepared me for the teaching of that day, but if I hadn't kept learning I wouldn't be able to teach the students today
bring so many diverse people together.. It's like a reaching a critical mass of ideas
A5: Also met people dedicated to education, like , , + . Changed me for the better.
my timeline would have significantly less banana memes
A6: Wish I had opportunity to connect w/practicing educators in ed camp type forums as pre-service T, would have been beneficial
. oh you're not alone there. But as hard as they are in person imagine how hard they are on Twitter!
My daughter who graduated from A&M in 2015 was in the classroom working with Ss every semester from her fresh year. Great Prep!
Number talks is definitely a powerful practice for both teachers & students.
A6: college lays the foundation & provides the theory, but I've always said you don't really learn the role until ur in the role
Teaching is more art than science. The more we try to make it a science, the more of the art we suck out of it.
Teaching is more art than science. The more we try to make it a science, the more of the art we suck out of it.
A6 - College just skimmed the surface. PD like in takes you deeper.
Agreed! One reason I enjoy having teacher interns is to learn myself. Plus, twitter, conferences, reading, etc.
A5: I've learned so much this weekend from to bring perspective into the classes I'm taking.
A5: I also feel these relationships have helped given me courage to try new things & support when they do not work! No fear!
My son who graduated from TXTech in 2011 was only in classroom last year. Not so great teacher prep.
Tough in any setting. It's a being concise vs feeling put on the spot trade off. But we need to talk about it either way
:( on a brighter note we have a Houston in the works that will hopefully include childcare!
A6: I can't imagine how much more supported I would have felt as a new T w/Twitter at my disposal
A6: College helped me pass the test. My student teaching mentors and connections helped me hone my skills!
A6: College has been preparing me thru observing classrooms & mentoring.
A6 I'm a TWU alumni! You can't get any better! They were at the forefront with the usage of technology! ❤️
what draws you to a flipped classroom?
Smartboard for interactive learning, QR codes, coding & eager to try things from yesterday's sharing! https://t.co/5yOqXf1iMJ
Q4: What have you implemented in your classroom as a result of informal learning or ?
That's for sure! Nothing like the actual experience to truly learn, esp since needs & ss change every year.
In fact, for any aspiring or current edcamp organizers, can we make child care a norm?
A6 I'm better at research at academic writing. I do tons of the former and zip of the latter now tho. I finished (BA & MS)..
how much did MntDew pay you to create their super bowl ads?
A5 I enjoy learning more from Educators rather than a paid person. I get an insight as to how they engage ss. Some are even admin
A6 Finance major, so. ...colaboration w/peers in final semester saved GPA & taghy me teamwork https://t.co/JaqYs43NIg
A6: By giving us our first PLN. Still talk to many friends who are now working in the same district as me.
Love this statement!! https://t.co/A1zJEABBGF
Teaching is more art than science. The more we try to make it a science, the more of the art we suck out of it.
A6: I wish there was more of an opportunity to observe multiple classrooms in one college class.
Q7: Are there ways that Universities could improve upon teacher preparation? Can edcamps play a role? https://t.co/l6tX2SqFr3
We'd have expanded beyond our small network and been in closer touch with what's going on in EDU today https://t.co/ioL7wDRgCg
A6: I can't imagine how much more supported I would have felt as a new T w/Twitter at my disposal
Agreed, ed camps might be eye-opener for pre-service folks & add to their PLN!
A6 Sadly I don't think it did. Besides my credentials. Missed the real world appl piece. Hopefully colleges will look into this.
Good thing we don't work in the same building! We'd blow the roof off!!
Doing practicum in my reading courses has been such a great experience b/c we get a 1on1 experience w/ our student.
A6: I felt like a better T after I got my Masters...the classes went deeper than undergrad.
A7: Get teacher ed students to edcamps! Share the knowledge with aspiring educators!
you don't want to know. (They paid me in Pepsi)
A6 Some colleges are doing a good job of prepping kiddos. Others are not.
A3: just approved twitter chats for PD! Great option for busy Ts & builds PLN. Looking 2 expand w district edchats
A6: Child Development major so it was very beneficial! 1st day in a classroom was my 1st day as a teacher.
A7 Feel as if AC programs could really use this model for current trends/convos about education https://t.co/X5YHRnrGzs
Q7: Are there ways that Universities could improve upon teacher preparation? Can edcamps play a role? https://t.co/l6tX2SqFr3
I hope that with rich dialogue and experiences like on college/uni campus this can change https://t.co/zhLSnyebw3
A6 Sadly I don't think it did. Besides my credentials. Missed the real world appl piece. Hopefully colleges will look into this.
A6 - College taught me that I had the ability to learn - anything that I want to...haven't stopped driving my lrng yet.
A6 As for administration & project management.. Serving six years in the US Navy taught me to do more with less, good life lesson
A6 College has given me vast knowledge on teaching pedagogy; edcamps have given me ways to make teaching innovative & relevant.
A7: Include as part of training. Give pre service Ts opportunities to connect with excellent educators often!
A7 I definitely think edcamps should be part of University experiences. It's the beginning of their PLN. https://t.co/hbUpDapiWs
Q7: Are there ways that Universities could improve upon teacher preparation? Can edcamps play a role? https://t.co/l6tX2SqFr3
A7: Would love to see more preservice Ts joining edcamps. How do we connect them to these opportunities? https://t.co/9n5y6PRhv9
Q7: Are there ways that Universities could improve upon teacher preparation? Can edcamps play a role? https://t.co/l6tX2SqFr3
A7 Powerful for those in the trenches to share passion & best practices informally
A7: Would be great for Univ to encourage or even host an edcamp for the preservice Ts...hard part is knowing what you don't know
A7 - I think can play a huge role in preparing new Ts.Connect them with others & start a conversation Allow them to grow
Yes! So important to keep in mind, no two years are EVER the same b/c no two Ss are the same! https://t.co/vLuw3SIA85
That's for sure! Nothing like the actual experience to truly learn, esp since needs & ss change every year.
A7 you can't dump tenured faculty so change is sometimes slow in higher Ed
THIS --->>>
We are trying to address this with https://t.co/dxEQpC6sqW
A7: Get teacher ed students to edcamps! Share the knowledge with aspiring educators!
A6 I didn't originally go 2 school 2 teach but from I learned that engagement, discussion, & Ss ownership are key 2 learning
A7: Also if more teacher ed faculty attend they can help connect latest research to practitioners.
Ideas for connecting with them?
how exciting for Ss in college to come and see an edcamp and just dive right in to the middle of passionate educators
I have to get back to my paperwork! I was really bummed I didn't get to go to Denton! I just couldn't get up at 3:30 a.m. ❤️
Congrats! What's your major?
Yep, I worked in DentonISD and we had your students in our school every semester for extended periods of time. :)
. nice! A few of us have an in the works that will likely be at the University of Houston. Right there w/ you!
In my reading classes I've taken, we've always powered down. But this isn't reflective of the environment we'll be teaching in.
A7 - as a professor, I always make sure to implement applicable learning experiences that go beyond test preparation
Shout out to Texas Woman's University for hosting yesterday - FORWARD THINKING
A7 Edcamps n college will keep them up to date with tech Nothing like starting out using old tech cause that's what the prof use
see all of you next Sunday!
Ooooh We need this! We had many new teachers at
https://t.co/2TE00V4UGk
A7: Would be great for Univ to encourage or even host an edcamp for the preservice Ts...hard part is knowing what you don't know
A7a I'm not a T so take this with a grain of salt.. It's a vicious cycle.. Teacher development for industrial sized teaching.
I agree, but there has to be a better model to help new Ts see the teaching experience more before serving
Had opportunity to do just that w/ & yesterday! Hope that the preservice Ts benefited
Host events at colleges with teacher ed programs like did yesterday.
A6 studied all foundational thinkers in ed. So important to see where ed. started to understand where it's headed.
Also talk to professors beforehand so they can let students know long in advance.
Didn't know that connection was there. Not surprised you are leading in this area!
Provide child care (get HS volunteers maybe!) so that a huge attendance burden is lifted
A7: More partnerships with universities and stronger ACP.
A7) Universities hosting edcamps helps to make connections where our future educators will be working. It just makes sense.
A7b New Ts want jobs at graduation so role in higher ed teacher development might best be like genius hour..
Looks like I missed a great ! I will definitely catch the archive!
Q:6 college is preparing me in content for the classroom-EdCamp blew my mind in applicable teaching methods for the classroom.
does a great job of getting their preservice Ts in classrooms as soon as they enter Tching program
some faculty aren't making that jump because edcamps are not considered real conference in tenure process
A7 Yes, they can collaborate to see what the students needs are. What skills or experiences would help them be successful Ts.
A7 Yes! Require preservice Ts to learn from the progressive Ts found at EdCamps, not the most traditional Ts in the building
Q8: What is one takeaway from an that you would want to be sure to share with others?
Hey looks like we have a pre-service teacher! https://t.co/Z5PVDYa0bF

Shout out to Texas Woman's University for hosting yesterday - FORWARD THINKING
this was discussed at the ISTE Edcamp session. More like what edcampldr did
A7 in NW Ohio we're moving to a year long co-teaching model for student teaching instead of a semester phase in & out format.
A7 university prep programs aren't the problem. We need schools to treat educators like professionals.
A8: Take charge of the convo when necessary. If the moderator isn't stepping up, it's your job.
A7: I think they should make sure the professors themselves are continually learning & guiding these Ts to be self-guided lrnrs.
I'm so grateful to have met you. I hope to continue learning with you!
A8) Twitter. It's worth your time. Invest and grow.
A7 Bringing diverse educators together to encourage innovation for next gen schools, like advocates

It seems like the ans to my initial Q is "reach out to community"
A8 - When you attend an use your voice and join in on the conversations. It is about connecting, learning & sharing
A4: Voxer, Todaysmeet, Google Build, Zaption, Educreation, ShowMe, GAFE . . . but it is only added if it makes the lesson better
A8 tacos are the only acceptable lunch at an Edcamp
Any resources out there to help us grow and educate the youth are good resources!

A8 try it you will like it. Great way to network. Get new ideas. Be with people that love to learn and love to teach.
The clarity of Ss thinking revealed by Number Talks is amazing. Spreading to 1st and 2nd grade soon. https://t.co/Td3LuTlp9L
Number talks is definitely a powerful practice for both teachers & students.
I liked the conversation & I had about peers peer unconference with content in mind with an edcamp style
Edcamps/Twitter can bridge divide between higher ed & K-12. We can learn a lot from each other! https://t.co/3FPllSTXik

We were honored to have you there representing pre-service educators at Samantha!
A8 don't follow He been crazy
A8 Edcamps are valuable but if you can't be there, staying connected on twitter is PRICELESS. You can learn alot from a hashtag.

I liked the conversation & I had about peers peer unconference with content in mind with an edcamp style
A8 Most of the I participate in are at least a day's travel away from home. Coming n going it's lots of reflection.
A8 I learned about at an edcamp. Great digital portfolio app.
A8: mindset makes a difference, putting people together w/ an organic convo can be more beneficial than a planned session
A8- lurk if you must, but everyone has something to share to start a conversation at decamp!
Q9: Give a shout out to people you have connected w/ at or Twitter that impacted your teaching. https://t.co/yIWlj9RPed
