#minecraftedu hey Joe Archer, from Port Dover, Ontario. I like the Edu version where Ss can bring me into the game and teach me stuff! Learning lots from them! Also love code commander too!!
Mark G, co-founder of the chat, next to @PBJellyGames Currently coordinated in Southern NJ. Just started playing WynnCraft, a MMORPG version of Minecraft, that I am obsessed with. #MinecraftEDU
Hi Miners, Farmers, Ocean Explorers, Witch's Hut Destroyers, Village Looters, Diamond Booters, Elytra Flyers and Nighttime Cryers :) Ben from Canada. I love Sandbox play the most. Few rules and all the creative tools! #MinecraftEDU
A0: Hi guys! Im very grateful to join today's #minecraftedu chat. Tbh, this chat is my favorite chat and ive learned a lot of new and meaningful #Minecraftedu things . Im really excited to learn and 'play' again in todays chat!
It’s educational-ish - you draw character cards and traits and try to create the greatest fighter to defeat your opponent-you have to argue why yours would win-kind of like Apples to Apples #MinecraftEDU
A0: Sarah, Digital Content Producer at the Royal Ontario Museum. Get to play every day teaching kids about museum stuff, but always looking for new ways to engage! #MinecraftEdu
Hi Aliff! Glad to see you here! I hope it is okay if in Singapore I show some of your students' amazing work in Minecraft for the Global Goals? #MinecraftEDU

Well about a year ago I mentioned here how cool it would be to have a template Build Battle world that all teachers could use flawlessly with incredible control and mobility within the world. I'm 90% done. :) #MinecraftEDU@PlayCraftLearn

A1) In kinder we have an hour of choice time-unstructured play time. I also gamified my Friday afternoons. Ss play board games to help w/ literacy & social skills #Minecraftedu
A1: offering playful options as student choice to complete assignments. Going to have students draw a map? Allow them to build it in game instead! #MinecraftEDU
I love this! We speak so much about gameful play that is educational, but at Kindergarten Students need time for unstructured play. Minecraft is perfect for choice and exploration! #MinecraftEDU
A1; build a culture of playing / learning by #Tribes games within #MinecraftEdu with Ss! We also jumped into creating our classroom world; #Archerville w/ stores (Tim Hortons for Mr A) rinks, shopping etc....

A1 - Driving home today I thought about how cool it would be to assign a teacher from the school to each student, & the Ss would have to build the teacher their dream home based on known personality, interests & some research. Then show them. School-wide engagement #MinecraftEDU
A1: My situation's a little different -- when classes visit, I have 90 minutes to get the kids on board with this total stranger as their teacher. Sometimes I "hack" by wearing nerdy stuff, like my porg shirt or minecraft jewellery, which starts conversations. #MinecraftEdu
We begin the year with an All About Me BreakoutEDU in which students play to learn about me, they then have time to develop their own All ABout Me Clues and Riddles to unlock the box. We also create Minecraft Skins and explain how they relate to us. #MinecraftEDU
Yes! Totally immersive and engaging! I use your examples all the time Glen! I love the world you have created with Narrative NPCs and Economics, etc. #MinecraftEDU
Hey Sean, have you played Disruptus with Students? I learned about it from @_Saul_Garza It is a game of invention, creation, and innovation. Great for talking about inventions too. I used it in 5th grade, Shark Tank Style. #MinecraftEDU

It should work right? I've been looking for a way to introduce Minecraft to other teachers at school in the most positive and meaningful way possible. This might be it. From the students. #MinecraftEDU
Another great game that allows for creating, arguing and drawing is The Extroidinaires, where kids create inventions for particular characters. #MinecraftEDU
I’ve had to remove some cards (like any tv or movie character) because it decreased creativity as kids all got in the habit of naming Thanos, Galactus, or Goku. Too much power makes it less interesting. #MinecraftEDU
A2: If you don’t mess with #MinecraftEdu you have an amazing, creative game that can take you in a million directions...that to me is the essence of #playful
A2: I think what I loved about the most about learning in Minecraft is that we're always learning together, the student becomes the teacher #minecraftedu
A2: I think what I loved about the most about learning in Minecraft is that we're always learning together, the student becomes the teacher #minecraftedu
A2: Minecraft allows for so many avenues and choices based on player types, learning goals and outcomes, etc. Minecraft can be played in a variety of modes and has such a low floor but high ceiling. Almost anyone can pick it up and begin working in it #MinecraftEDU
A2: Amazing collaborative tools, being able to scale tasks based on ability levels, creating memorable experiences that contextualize learning, We're in the process of trying to use the in-game challenges to create analogues to more complicated mining concepts. #minecraftedu
And if you do mess with Minecraft, then what do you have? An amazing, creative game that is modded! Oh, and then their are command blocks! #MinecraftEDU
A2 - #MinecraftEDU is a safer choice for students than the rival Roblox which allows kids to chat with strangers and even kill prison guards in-game with guns etc.... Safety is a school and teacher's first priority. Minecraft is helping in that aspect big time!
A3: I do my best to collect qualitative data in the form of Surveys from students in which they respond in open ended answers. I have also worked in small "focus groups" to discuss games and learning in the classroom. However, we can just measure the smiles too! #MinecraftEDU
A3: usually the biggest (since it’s generally engaging) is making sure it is cognitively challenging enough and actually working towards learning objectives #MinecraftEDU
Hye @MGrundel would like to thank you for the great lesson activity. Im started introduce #Minecraftedu to educators in Malaysia by using your GEOCACHING LESSON.
Tqvm to @aliffothman04 for introduce me this chat session.
A3 - When assessing in a culture of play or any time at all it is important to base it on the Product but also Conversations and Observations during the process if possible. #MinecraftEDU#DataTriangulation
Thank you! I updated the GeoCaching world to include new updates to the game, I need to repost the world on the site. Thanks for joining! #MinecraftEDU
Brilliant. I feel like there should be some sweet spot in the middle of that pyramid, conjoining all three. But this is very brilliant Ben! #MinecraftEDU
It helps a lot. Product still dominates with 60% or more consideration but the other two are too powerful to deny them their impact on the overall placement and feedback. #MinecraftEDU
A4: I talk with my students and read literature on games and The Game (Minecraft). Is there a new mod or mini game that I can incorporate into my lessons to make it fun. In other words, keep current with students' needs and interests. #MinecraftEDU
A4 - “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”, a phrase originated by Peter Drucker -- It's all about what your students and teachers believe and how they behave. Not your strategies for success. #MinecraftEDU
A4: I try to let students self-determine whenever I can. Like, if we're learning about adaptations, they tell me what they're curious about, and frame the lesson around their choices. Having ownership in the learning process makes the fun personally meaningful. #minecraftedu
Cool. I've never heard of it. Is it kid safe? Like 7yr old safe? Because that's where 90% of my #Minecraft time is spent when not actually working specifically for #MinecraftEDU on @PlayCraftLearn lessons, blogs, mentoring.
Sounds amazing, how do you use Minecraft to teach adaptaions? I guess the Creeper is a form of evolution of the pig. Do you know that story? #MinecraftEDU
So far, yes, although, I have not engaged in chat with any other players. It is an MMORPG for Minecraft, almost no breaking or placing blocks. #MinecraftEDU
Eminem’s lyrics don’t have that large of a vocabulary (not even close to Wu Tang members), but I was impressed when I saw him rhyme orange-Aesop Rock though with ‘Flash that buttery gold
jittery zeitgeist, wither by the watering hole, what a patrol' #MinecraftEDU
I do! We're not there with an adaptations program (yet -- I have ideas!), but for the mining program, they have an end goal, and many different potential paths to reach it. The way they address the limited resources is totally self-determined. #MinecraftEdu
Thanks for those who stuck with us and those who did a little creepin. We really enjoyed you and glad you could participate. If anyone would like to host #MinecraftEDU please DM one from our team, @PBJellyGames@pickleberry1234 or Myself. Thanks and Good Night
