Hi, Betsy. You go, Friend!
Good morning . Whats our topic today?
Happy Fri! "You're a new cohort of Ts starting personalized learning. What resources/supports/coaching do you need for success?"
Happy Friday!
Brian from Massachusetts.
I'm jealous. My school concert is over so that alleviates some busyness but it's still going to be a busy weekend.
Good morning to you Jessica! 11.30pm where I am - can't sleep! My mind is FULL
how was the visit with and ?
Good morning from Indianapolis. I've enjoyed online several x, and going to a https://t.co/rgfabv6ze9 workshop tomorrow.
Woohoo!! Looking forward to meeting you too! Brace yourself about "my crew" though, they're pretty edu-AWESOME!
Feedback. If I am a new teacher I need constant and actionable feedback.
Hey nice to see you! Holding down the fort?
Nice! Good luck with your lessons. So much to learn from each of them.
G'day Jessica from Denver in Philly! David from Sydney Australia! My Friday was great, and awesome. https://t.co/m2ZRf1I2gR

Happy Friday Lori from OH joining in!
I need a model to follow- kind of bumper rails or a formula- sometimes too much creativity and options make me spin
Here's today's topic! https://t.co/vKOyuCPmAN
Happy Fri! "You're a new cohort of Ts starting personalized learning. What resources/supports/coaching do you need for success?"
Shivan from NNJ here. Good am all

Personalised Learning...
I would like to SEE it in action - to observe how it works:)
Steve, will you write about or can we walk about it next weekend at B's? Want to hear more.
Today's question: https://t.co/XSRAwRGDhn
Happy Fri! "You're a new cohort of Ts starting personalized learning. What resources/supports/coaching do you need for success?"
I'm so glad! Any fun plans for the weekend?
Happy Friday! We have a field trip today.
Also I need to feel safe to vent. Too many new teachers carry it all on their shoulders.
Empower Teachers to be leaders, coaches and mentors who have focus improving student learning & prof. practice!
Good Friday morning! Lisa, elem ESE Support Facilitation checking in from central Florida.
For learning one certainly needs the Internet. I hear they have that on computers (sorry, bad Homer Simpson reference
I can hear a collective sigh... Gibbs free energy today. Ap freeze like deer in headlights when Gibbs is presented
We have so many new Ts in my building this year...is it unfair to say "everything!"?
I'm ready for it. Only the best come to .
Good morning ! Today is our 100th day ofschool.
Good morning friends! you might have to moderate for weeks at a time more often 😁 I think I made all 5 days this week!
Good Morning ! Deanna from PA
Time, mentors and each other!
Oh man it was SO great! What a warm welcome from awesome staff. Great Qs, great convos.
Resources! I would need books! 1:1 devices!
G'day Eric from New Jersey! Great to chat with you today!
Good morning friends! Happy Friday!
Let them know its Ok to go slow don't get overwhelmed. Go at your own pace
I need to see examples in action. Best way to learn is see possibilities for personalized learning
and in their hearts - then ppl wonder why talented colleagues walk away from the classroom after a couple of yrs
Goodmorning Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this question.
Yeeeah!! Nicely done! I'll be here Monday & Tuesday as well. That'll be the true test after this weekend :)
I'm with you on that Robbie:)
Haha, the deer I saw in my headlights last night just kept moving. Hopefully your Ss will do they same.
Hi friend!! Are you enjoying back to school time I hope? Kiddos on Monday, yes?
and the beat goes on at https://t.co/ylcmi1cr0n
Oh man it was SO great! What a warm welcome from awesome staff. Great Qs, great convos.
Solid advice foe new Ts. I would also add that you don't have to do everything ppl throw your way!
Congrats! Celebrate as if it were your first!
Ts need a blueprint for personalized learning. Guidance on how to do it. Support to make decisions they haven't made before
I like this morning's question, . It's also good for reflecting and revising our current practices!
New teachers need feedback that isn't tied to an observation. in fact, that goes for all teachers.
I remember as a new T I needed support with classroom management. Wish I'd known about Fred Jones and
Absolutely - as with any initiative - rushing it makes people want to give up https://t.co/rX9gV90PPU
Let them know its Ok to go slow don't get overwhelmed. Go at your own pace
A safe environment to practice
Not sure! It is suppose to rain all weekend, so may end up at a travel expo. They're usually interesting!
Happy 100th day! Special activities planned?
Guidance for how to optimize your use of Twitter to find your people and build / nurture - I know I fumbled around early on
Hmmm, interesting topic. PL for Ts? Ss? Both? Or is that up for interpretation?
many are scared off by the enormity of the information highway stay in your lane till your ready to pass !! https://t.co/xGH3ekPjX4
Solid advice foe new Ts. I would also add that you don't have to do everything ppl throw your way!
I'm so glad! I pondered & couldn't decide for a while last night, but it is very much on my mind so I went with it!
Professional Learning must be strategic - that way you reduce the amount of clutter to throw out! Focus Key
an ear to listen for new teachers. Had a student teacher this fall. Guide them to find their way
To try a new strategy Ts need to see it in action, then try with coaching support and lots of feedback.
I would start w Rdg and wrt workshops and continue w math workshop...after I had classroom management tucked under my belt a little.
morning Bud! ready to go again ??? https://t.co/xgPpja2T3F
Absolutely - as with any initiative - rushing it makes people want to give up https://t.co/rX9gV90PPU
Let them know its Ok to go slow don't get overwhelmed. Go at your own pace
Sounds neat! (The expo, not so much the rain)
A model also helps me better understand what others see as personalized learning. We need to be on the same page before I add to it
Ts also need to know how to build student autonomy
Lots! Starting with a 100 year old T (me in costume) is showing up to teach today.
Perhaps after a month of teaching we should just ask new teachers what they needs and then provide it.
$$$ to buy good books. New. Best sellers. Ss get tired of the same old books
wish I could be two places at once would love to be with everyone at for sure!
For personalized learning: need reliable, rich digital content, ways to manage delivery to Ss, means to assess
Yes back in Monday! Will start with a 'deconstructed classroom'! What makes 'good' c/room design? Then GO FOR IT -YOU DO IT!
Starred, hearted, and two thumbs upped - it all doesn't have to be done in the first year https://t.co/EbxS970WyT
Let them know its Ok to go slow don't get overwhelmed. Go at your own pace
support, encouragement, time away to discuss with and observe others
Your call, but in my mind I was thinking "How can I support Ts & give them PL so they can implement PL for Ss?"
glad you did !! https://t.co/QOrBJ16yT4
I'm so glad! I pondered & couldn't decide for a while last night, but it is very much on my mind so I went with it!
Specific and constructive feedback. Much modeling. Time to play w/tech & other resources.
Convince them to make it their own
freedom to make mistakes and learn from them! Excellent!
I wish we got more time to do this though:(
hmm oh, I thought this was for us!
Also choose a lens. One place you could change or add. many new Ts are working on just surviving this week.
Re-focus the purpose of evaluation - its about professional growth. We have made observations punitive, not supportive!
Great mentor text for new and veterans teachers is "The New Teacher Revolution" by . Check it out for sure
Good morning friends! Don't forget next week is Global School Play Day. Register at https://t.co/89C444XHbF and follow
You'll definitely be here in spririt & via the Twitters! Excited to follow along with everyone's learning this wknd.
I loved 100th day when I was in elementary - I wonder if I could get w doing something at the HS level? Hmmm...
This is so important - everyone learns at a different pace & we have to remember to be patient. https://t.co/rG9AT1V7R5
Let them know its Ok to go slow don't get overwhelmed. Go at your own pace
Some just don't know...but I am tired of that answer. Go find out! And by that I mean, see what others are doing.
Time to play is essential. Also, remind them that what works in one class might not work in another. https://t.co/p1cuHMvbBD
Specific and constructive feedback. Much modeling. Time to play w/tech & other resources.

Happy Fri! "You're a new cohort of Ts starting personalized learning. What resources/supports/coaching do you need for success?"
I think one of the most important elements necessary for a successful personalized learning experience is access to passion.
I think one of the most important elements necessary for a successful personalized learning experience is access to passion.
Yes! Many don't feel empowered to do that. They're afraid to get into "trouble."
Oh how fantastic! My friend did that a few yrs ago & won't go back. Document & share with us please! SOunds amazing.
Yes!! There is a fear that an observation from P would be "bad"
for sure would love to F2F again in April ?? https://t.co/xVzTxKEgAp
wish I could be two places at once would love to be with everyone at for sure!
as well as encourage other seasoned teachers to move forward to Twitter – would be awesome also
Some of the first things we need as a cohort are: a common goal, a starting point, and time/space to meet. Online or off.
Blueprint, yes. Funny how we encourage Ss to take risks in learning yet Ts fear the same risk taking in teaching.
I admit to that. I am very frustrated with teachers who have no idea where they need growth. But whose fault is that?
Any material needs support that ultimate goal. To understand your personal passions and those of others you need.. 1/2#bfc530
Well my job is PL for adults so I certainly won't fault you for giving me adult-focused ideas! :)
Must get to Philly one day. Rocky Mountains would be nice!
Yes just like we tell our Ss !! https://t.co/QzrtqmW6So
This is so important - everyone learns at a different pace & we have to remember to be patient. https://t.co/rG9AT1V7R5
Let them know its Ok to go slow don't get overwhelmed. Go at your own pace
will do - it will be videoed and blogged! An interesting experiment:)
might :)
Exactly! I know some admin who need to be reminded of that also. ;)
Guide, support, nurture, and love – what we all need! Great point
A New Trend, not new though, in PL are get togethers organized by Ts focused on specific needs on Sats = edcamps!
What would that look like? Are there any supports you would want form others, either central office/peers/leaders?
butting in: I'll be there, thx to
I agree! They would need teachers who are modeling the approach and opportunities to observe. https://t.co/dAFnkcGL6A
I need to see examples in action. Best way to learn is see possibilities for personalized learning
To be able to listen, empathize, question thoughtfully to gain clarification, & reflect 2/2.
To be able to listen, empathize, question thoughtfully to gain clarification, & reflect 2/2.
I'd like to see some best practices/coaching on curating resources for Teachers. How to organize so not repeating yourself
There's that word: nurture. Our new teachers definitely need that.
Ss don't know what probs they're passionate about solving unless they experience the world & meet diverse people. Skype is our tool.
So happy to be with all of you on this ! Chris here from Ontario.
Time. Ts become better at time management with experience, new Ts are bombarded w/ meetings, etc. Free time to learn and ask ?s
And plenty of humor! Have to remember the value of being able to laugh at our mistakes and enjoy each other's company!
How about monthly debrief meetings for our new teachers. Where they meet and discuss the struggles.
Have fun tonight! Hoping to stop in!
W experienced Ts-their own. It's no longer ok to teach in a fortress of solitude! Get out & learn from others-incl new Ts!
I'd imagine you want to help create common goal by coming together few times as cohort w/ ppl who've done PL well?
Feeling free to ask questions VITAL !! https://t.co/9J28OAoUPW
Time. Ts become better at time management with experience, new Ts are bombarded w/ meetings, etc. Free time to learn and ask ?s
Exactly. We all need nurturing and recognition for efforts. https://t.co/DTsOzJMMrM
There's that word: nurture. Our new teachers definitely need that.
How do we gain greater access to these resources? Any collections you can recommend?
We're trying to organize one in Santo Domingo...scary and exciting! https://t.co/kIl75iEvwm
Ts also need to know how to build student autonomy
I also think a move away from the 'giving of rewards'. We want our learners to become intrinsic.
Lost track of time this morning! Just finished 30 parent emails for incoming Ss on Monday. What's the topic?
Philly is great, & of course you're always welcome in my Rocky Mtn state! Colorado is best enjoyed in fall/spring/summer
Absolutely! Veteran Ts also feel the time pinch as well. BTW, good morning!
invited 1 awesome vp in to watch my flip classroom/ risk taking. He was awesome! More As need that reputation
I think 1st and foremost we need a safe environment that says if I bomb on this lesson it won't end up on my eval
Spend lots of time getting to 'know thy students'...observations, conversations, documenting...learning from and with them.
It's going to be a full and impactful weekend. Make sure you both get plenty of sleep tonight.
Oh fantastic! I hope the video will be saved & on blog so I can catch it! I am really intrigued by this!
Yes, so important! Create life long learners.
Focus is so important. Shared focus even more so! https://t.co/2nYbSwfxV4
Also choose a lens. One place you could change or add. many new Ts are working on just surviving this week.
Have a great day all. Remember to share your moments. Sure to be lots today!
High-performing schools embed professional learning opportunities into daily practice - not separate! https://t.co/1zRsKt2xre
excellent hope to see you both here !!
funny. I used to think that all teachers wanted to build their own little kingdoms. Not as true as I thought.
good morning! was telling an admin in my district how fab your Ss are - their blogs might get a bump today
always documenting - it's that highly reflective personality!!
Have an awesome weekend friends.
We need time to be able to meet and learn from each other. We need the funds to purchase resources to help our students.
What's happening this weekend? I missed a whole bunch! PLN events?
Change is scary, but don't worry, all new things have kinks, just keep at it!
Too often, I think ideas get stuck in committee.
Hey, made it in the nick of time for east coast edition!
Like this perspective on how to support & provide professional learning. Ask Qs, be engaged, learn together https://t.co/nggbztFY8U
- Supports? Ask questions of the cohort, be a 'critical' friend, be interested, have convos for big ideas. https://t.co/TEA9X2qc4n
being present and validating is essential as well.
true, hopefully moving away from that. Open our doors let everyone in see, share grow https://t.co/1S6t1nBcwH
funny. I used to think that all teachers wanted to build their own little kingdoms. Not as true as I thought.
Maybe like an old-fashioned coffee klatsch where it was informal & supportive. And snacks, of course!
This is true, I think we are sometimes STUCK in our own fortress of solitude bc of schedules-this is also shifting!
And students. Power formative learning opportunities!
This is why teacher leaders are critical in schools. Teacher leaders are advocates for resources and support Ts need!
After 15yrs+ experience, more support in technology, more resources for myself & Ss, more coaching on differentiated groups.
Imagine the money saved if we just used that committee money and took action, used data, and adjusted https://t.co/1hmsBVNJQx
Too often, I think ideas get stuck in committee.
