-
what are the major points of your policy? do you have an example to share?
-
I don't have my thumb drive on me, it's at the school but I wouldn't mind sharing
-
If coaches would like to see your social media presentation, how can they contact you? https://t.co/m1qOX6mosl

-
Talk to them a lot and monitor accounts. Hold them accountable for material that is below our standard.
-
-
What are some important parts of your social media policies?
-
Danny Schaechter - Gonzaga (DC)... Giddy up!
-
At the HS level we see less of the Laker type issue and more inappropriate content issues.
-
. I completely agree Coach Williams. We must maintain a presence.
-
Explain how much you monitor accounts. What is expected of the monitor coach?
-
email me at crosales@crosbyisd.org
-
1/2 we tell them that they are held to a different standard. they are not athletes or students, they are Football players
-
I teach a class to all of our freshman student'athletes at UT. We focus on "brand value"..Is your stock price falling or rising
-

Hold them accountable. That is the key.
-
2/2 and Football players will always be judged differently, so think before you do it/post it.
-
Beyond the standards they are in the public eye more than most student athletes.
-
have a few coaches who monitor team page. All players required to follow. Check it a few times a week.
-
We stress keeping your feed clean, representing yourself, & your school positively. You are what you project to be online
-
Love this analogy..."is your stock price rising or falling?" https://t.co/yEyOG0tE9h
-
-

-
It's crucial to teach your athletes the importance of social media. It leaves a footprint that can always be found
-
Here's another great component - appoint someone on staff as the social media coordinator. https://t.co/Ah1BzwiEF5
-
-
have a few coaches who monitor team page. All players required to follow. Check it a few times a week.
-
U can monitor fairly easily by putting all individual accounts on one list then just checking the list
-
that is what we mean. we use the example when is the last time you heard about a swimmer cheating on a test.
-
Its a TOOL not a TOY. Can't treat it like 'normal' kids. Also talk about their 'brands'
-
make sure whatever you tweet/retweet is appropriate. No cursing, etc. Never know who's watching
-
social media policy should be simple: if you wouldn't want your mama to see it, don't post it.
-
Thanks, Coach Ginn. I got that from Herm Edwards. He talked about that every day when I coached for him. https://t.co/81xoUs9qYO

Tony Shiffman. Rossview High. Clarksville, TN. Late to the party! Apologies
-
One problem - - some of their mamas ARE seeing AND posting bad content https://t.co/cg2HETWa0t
-
-
social media policy should be simple: if you wouldn't want your mama to see it, don't post it.
-
I tell my students if you wouldn't put it on Principal's desk I don't want to see it, same rules apply here
-
ok, next time you're on the topic is coaching with Herm Edwards...he may be my favorite football advocate ever
-
When I was in high school the coaches were not allowed to follow/friend the athletes on social media. Idk whose rule that was
-
good point. Parents need educating too! Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but doesn't meet it can't be cultivated.
-
on social media, you promote not only yourself, but your school, coaches, program and family. Do right by them
-
Absolutely - amazing what some of RTs are from parents, older silblings etc.
-
I believe we as coaches are on the frontlines. These young men & women look up to us. I am proud to be a part of the fraternity.
-
must reprogram kids. Many forget the whole world can see what they post. It's not a text with your buds.
-
Nick, some states still have that rule - legal hasn't caught up with tech yet.
-
parenting, teaching, and coaching are the same if you're doing it right.
-
Coaching is an important relationship! https://t.co/NXCrWMMsXH

Let's move to another topic. Anyone remember James Harrison's comments last year about participation awards?
-
very true. Anything you use a phone for other than a call can be dangerous.
-
-
Even then you are a screen shot from being burnt https://t.co/lTVCl2xERM
-
-
must reprogram kids. Many forget the whole world can see what they post. It's not a text with your buds.
-
Coach Sterling,
Inside Linebackers Coach, Killeen HS, Killeen Tx. Life long leaner!!
-
Was James Harrison right? He thinks we shouldn't give our young people credit for merely "showing up"...I think he may be right.
-
I don't think that participation awards are necessary at the high school level. We have certain season awards we give out
-
-
I used to do some STUPID stuff on social media. Made me feel/look like an idiot. I've definitely learned from it
-
-
trophy? No,Only 1 winner in life. However, part of coaching is showing love/appreciation for the player. That's a must
-
He is right, IMO, that's a problem with our society right now, earn your paycheck... https://t.co/uVLpOdH2uP
-
-
Was James Harrison right? He thinks we shouldn't give our young people credit for merely "showing up"...I think he may be right.
-
We don't think they should be "awards," degrades the concept of excellence.
-
I know that was an issue w/ our team this year, as some kids thought b/c they showed up they should play, they didnt earn a spot
-
We don't do participation awards for our youth football. We make our banquet an academic awards ceremony. Awards for grades
-
Good point - ...we have to strike a balance. https://t.co/HNVnDP9upk

-
I think kids need to understand the difference between Ws & Ls, trying hard, or not and the rewards/consequences of both
-
Participation award, I think kids are smart enough to know what they are, I personally would do it but that's because I'm cheap
-
I think it can be an issue...it can set bad examples that you are owed something for not putting in the work
-
I know personally i didnt want to be given a participation trophy, as it took away from the real thing that i could of had
-
If kids start playing sports as 5 year olds, then start teaching rewards and consequences
-
I hate participation awards. It takes the value out of winning if everyone gets a trophy just for showing up
-
A caring culture is a winning culture.
Something to think about.
-
balance in little league has to be learning the game & having fun over Win at all Costs... No Friday Night Tykes!
-
-
i want kids who have a desire to win and compete, not kids who think they already won because they showed up.
-
reward excellence. Appreciate commitment. Every generation looks down upon the next one b/c they have it "easy."
-
Here's a question...how has recruiting affected the respect level of your athletes?
-
I agree. Participation awards are meaningless. You see it in the NCAA too. 72 Bowl games and 31 post-season basketball tournys.
-
We are blessed. We have great kids who have gone on to play at the next level and have done it the right way. Set the standard.
-
Players that receive a lot of recruiting attention is great for them and the program. It provides a goal to attain
-
Coach could you define what you mean by "respect level" for the kids who are following the chat pls?
-
However, recruiting attention does bring consequences of some kids thinking they should get the same attention for no reason
-
I love it when kids get recruited/scholarships, cause I know they'll be better off in life!
-
Recruiting is a great motivator. Have the kids visit a local college. Talk to the coaches and players.
-
What is the most pressing issue facing our sport today? I'd love to get everyone's opinion on this.
-
This is what coaching is about. Teaching and providing an opportunity to improve on their life! https://t.co/6vdAXVXf81

The only meaningful "participation award" is the one seniors get.

as a player I can assure you we don't want a participation trophy, we want to earn it.
-
concussions and the way many parents are afraid to let their kids play.
-
Concussions and staying on top of injuries is a pressing issue...to me, its not something to be swept under the rug
-
Concussions and fear from parents about what can happen to their children
-
concussions and elite 7 on 7 teams
-
Honestly biggest pressure Is this concussion Hysteria, people who hate the sport have now found a way to spread hate.
-
just a little late Hahahaha
-
As the attention grows for athletes at earlier ages, do coaches see kids losing respect 4 the game? https://t.co/2OeQNfzqFA
-
-
Coach could you define what you mean by "respect level" for the kids who are following the chat pls?
-
in our area, I would say the balance between running a big program, while keeping what makes HS FB special.
-
YES!!!! https://t.co/rDpU3Tg5i0

John Mitchell TE/H-back Midwest City HS Midwest City OK. Sorry I'm late fellas was doing my dad duties. What did I miss?
-
I personally don't agree with Coach Arians' perspective about concussions and injuries (part 1 of 2)
-
Health in general, all aspects, head, knees, supplements, body weight(too heavy)
-
The only important "participation trophy" is the one seniors get. Very few people can say they played 4 years of hs football
-
-
Until we address the issue head on, parents have the right to be concerned about letting their children participate
-
The stigma surrounding the game and safety
-
seem to be a recurring theme.
-
Outside of concussions, it's kids and their lack of a work ethic and a sense of entitlement and their unrealistic logic.
-
1/2 Concussions are something that need to be talked about w/ both players and parents. before and during football
-
I think the safety of the game and concussions are the biggest issue and topic with all levels of football right now
-
Agreed, I think we all see parents who don't have the facts though and just the headlines -?
-
I am SO EXCITED for the FIRST EVER ! All coaches please stick around! We start at 8 pm Pacific time!
-
yes! Cannot practice/coach the same we as 5,10,15 years ago. But knowledge is increasing.
-
Something I tend to disagree with are these "elite" 7 on 7 leagues that are starting to pop up to "promote" athletes
-
Concussions have everyone scared, we go above & beyond to protect with gear & teach fundamentals. https://t.co/5mUYXJoKb3
-
-
What is the most pressing issue facing our sport today? I'd love to get everyone's opinion on this.
-
2/2we had a few players who didnt tell us or there parents that their head hurt after a game.some parents didnt notice symptoms
-
We as coaches can handle concussions thru proper instructions & care, but the way kids think and act that's more difficult.
-
are you for or against them?
-
Any of you have the budget for the tech that tracks impact for concussions?
-
personal trainers... Some are good. Most are sharks.
-
Stay hydrated, not even kidding. when I host I'm wrecked after... https://t.co/kxNNPX26Ow

I am SO EXCITED for the FIRST EVER ! All coaches please stick around! We start at 8 pm Pacific time!
-
I'm also not a fan of academies that might start popping up that take away the value of academics and focus solely on athletics
-
Concussions, over-the-top parents and unrealistic expectations from players seem to be the Top 3
-
Control what we can control, tech, equip, train, baseline,,,,,,everything. Perfect coach!!!! https://t.co/bVA3C9Y6vD

If our athlete's mindset/expectations/sense of entitlement is a problem, how do we fix that?
-
If our athlete's mindset/expectations/sense of entitlement is a problem, how do we fix that?
-
yes we do. Every player takes the test on registration day.
-
community service projects are usually very humbling and effective to diminish any sense of entitlement https://t.co/1BiSytMish

just wanted to let everyone know that our first chat is scheduled for this friday @ 9pm EST.

I've really enjoyed this session...I don't believe there is a better profession on God's green earth than coaching.

couldn't have said it better myself
