A2: ENGAGEMENT ENGAGEMENT ENGAGEMENT! A master teacher once told me that was key. I think he was on to something.

a2. Engagement and frequent measurement for data-driven instruction
A3: When I had a kid call me mom… multiple times in one day. Or, when ur Ss BEG you to go to MS with them!
A3: The first time I was invited to a qunicinera! :)
A3: Moment I heard my tech helped a T save TIME! TOSA success is partially defined by the amount of time I can save overworked Ts.
A3: getting excited over collaborating while using data
A3: The first time I presented an tool to Ts at my school. Couldn't wait for the chance to do more.
. I've used the team sport analogy for years! We all need to be on the same team!
would love to find a way to do this across the district, offer some kind of incentive
A3 when the 8th grade students walk by my room and smile and nod when they see what the 7th graders will be doing that day
A3: Finally becoming a 1st grade teacher was that moment. Helping kids learn to read, like my 2nd grader T did for me.
A3: My 3rd yr parents wrote a letter to the superintendent to keep me at my 1st school when I was being moved to another building.
When I saw my MOST at-risk student (in a gang in 5th grade) playing wave tag & being a kid on the beach at outdoor ed.
A3:When my ss told me they liked me BECAUSE i was strict. They knew the limits & appreciated them.
Lots of models out there. We’re currently restructuring our club to fit changing needs
Same here. and I started leadership program. Sts teach peers, teachers, and admin.
A3: Best moment was seeing hope in a defeated 6th grade boy. Many had given up and was re-energized by being given a chance.
A3. I'm a big believer in "classroom energy," and those subtle moments when you can FEEL that you've got them.
A3: Another time is when former Ss asked to be MY friend on FB. Ss from student teaching a gazillion years ago!
mine was "never touch something twice, it just doubles your workload!" great advice!
Q3: Honestly I've never felt that way about a position, only about the people I work with. To me my team & leadership > job title.
Tom checking in late from work.
Love both those! Awwww! Warrants big bear hugs!

Hi Tom! Thanks for joining us!
A3: When my 3rd gr S who'd been retained told other kids that if u don't make mistakes u don't know you're learning .
That's fantastic news, Amber!!! You're gonna be amazing!
A2: Students learn 10% of what they read ... 90% of what they teach others. Continuum of learning
A3: I've never dreaded going to work. Always look forward to every day. Can't say that about previous jobs.
A3 edition was an eye opener that helped me stop worrying I have chosen the wrong path.
A3: don't know if that's my exp; several times I thought I was leaving educ but God keeps bringing me back. Love the kids though!
A3 two types:
1, seeing that "Aha" light bulb moment & smile on Ss face. 2, the random hugs & thanks you, & best T ever sketches
A3. When a SS u connected w/asks u to come to his graduation from HS.
A3: The first time a T told me, "Damn...that was way easier. I wish we had you a year a go." I know I've chosen the right
The & POWERHOUSE of awesome!
A3) From the first day I subbed a class.
A3:When a usually reluctant T came rushing down the hall to show me something she'd figured out on her own https://t.co/upS2x6GE6L
A3: Also, getting to sit in the dunk tank at school festival was a realization of the pinnacle of success.
A3: When Ss email me in college thanking about being prepared 2 write at that level. They hated it at the time but it was worth it
A3: The "Light Bulb" moment, in both students, teachers, and TOSA's......... Gets me every-time.
That’s it! Take risks & fail forward.
Have fun w your credential program! https://t.co/UKIfi8KhzH
A2: startin my cred in T minus 3 weeks! My fav thing: let student make something wrong, test, & learn. Don't jump in b4 they learn
A3 that and the group made me feel like we have so. I large struggles and wins, and that it is worth it.
A3: The day an 8th grader wrote an amazing Scifi piece in science class. And, it fit. Also, reg. visits from Ss I had two yrs ago.
A3: When I got to present awards to a few Ss at 8th grade awards during student teaching.
A3 hearing Ss say thank you for the lesson today. Actually had one say a lesson I did was the best thing he's ever done in school
A3 - I woke up and looked forward to going to work. So many can't say that, and I love that i can.
and I want to be one this team!!
A3: My 1st handwritten student note thanking me for being "the best teacher" they ever had. I keep a file of these little gems.
A3. The time a S yelled at me"stop asking me so many questions! Your job is to tell me the answer"No, my job is to make you think

Compliment on a summer school class?? Now that's saying something!!
We’re glad you’re a part of this group! is an amazing community

I really connected w kids thru some rough times over past year. We grew as community through loss. 2015 & 16 emotional graduations
Bottom line of all of this is - we are all indeed !
A3: in my new TOSA role, someone told me I was like their "tech therapist" and that I helped her to not be afraid & try new things

A4. Working in the inner city for 16 yrs, is hard to point to one... So many Ss.
One better for me, is when a Ss comes to me, 'cause I had a friend/relative, and the request me

It really is! Whole different vantage point!
A4: Had a S w/ major breakdown at camp. She didn’t want mom. Said I made big diff in her life than other Ts. Reinforced my ways
I'm battling this conversation right now...lots of reason on both sides... tough choices
A5 - The good days will outnumber the bad, but always have beer on hand for the bad
A5: Have the passion... do it... don't...then dont

TOM, first thing I see when I see you're here and it's brilliant
Resources are built in Gooru-need to figure out how to pull them out and share. I'm on it
A5) Forget everything they teach you in your credential program.
Don't try to do it all! Pick just a few things to focus on. Give yourself a break and lean on your colleagues.
A5: Answered this for a friend just today. Being a T is a passion and a calling.
A5 patients and there's always another day and your first year will be the toughest year ever and it's ok
A5 (seriously) - Surround yourself well, if your the best/smartest in the room, you in the wrong room.
Yes! Although, I’m still banking on you having a daughter named Aloha.
Q5: Never stop learning. Teaching is like working out. Don't get out of shape!
A4: This one student "Blake" from my year 1 of teaching. As it turns out, engaging lessons are important. https://t.co/jwDR5tFCVA
Don't worry I'm 1 for 4 so far...
a5 You get by with a lot of help from your friends in & out of edu. Find a tribe, learn and grow https://t.co/JCk0h3iGxL

RIGHT!? I even gave my sister a list of banned names before my nephew was born.
A5: this isn't a backup plan
Q5. Find passion, find your peeps, be reflective, be prepared to change.
A5: Lean on your PLN. We’re all here for each other.

me too!! I think about going blake to the classroom a lot recently. not next year, but sometime
A5: Don't stay in your classroom during lunch. Make that time to connect with colleagues. Oh yeah, & wear comfortable shoes! 😛
Reflecting is so important!
A5:The best prep I got for teaching was subbing. Then join twitter and find your tribe!
A5: You have to fully commit to this VOCATION. It is more than just a job. Ss become apart of your lives. Don't let them down.
Maybe you can Google-nerd-out with us at a Summit in Modesto in June, or maybe Mountain View in July :) https://t.co/UPeUBnvvem

A5: Don't stay in your classroom during lunch. Make that time to connect with colleagues. Oh yeah, & wear comfortable shoes! 😛
A5: Create consistent, predictable systems. Always ask, "what else could it be?" And don't take anything personal, no matter what.
A5: Don't stress the content, enjoy the kids, don't take anything too serious. Ask if you want to be a student in your room.
Then an animal? Or a unicorn????
A5 "They" don't have the power everyone thinks "they" do. Follow your passions. It will translate in your teaching
This is AMAZING advice! https://t.co/rKrNfkLVHn

A5: The only thing that doesn't change in teaching is change. Be a lifelong learner!
A5 don't be afraid to ask the Ss their opinions
Ohhhhh I am SO all over this!
A5 slow down. Trust your gut. Stay away from politics. Do what's right for kids.have a mentor (or 4)!

A5: Number 1: Become a connected educator.
A5: Stop. Take a moment to listen to Ss. Sometimes that's all they really need.
Not sure if I follow "crater blog" post
A5 your words and actions need to match. Integrity is something you can't get back. It builds relationships.
Agreed. You either got it, or you don't. Subbing helps one cut their teeth.
You gotta say Karly’s unicorn’s name out loud… Aloha Moura

A5: Read the books that your students are reading! (Plus more!) Best thing I ever did-bring real life reading skills to your class

Story of my life' WHY????
A5: New Ts - Be yourself! Don't teach how you were taught. Always reflect. Always be genuine, sincere, and transparent.
Ahhhh yeah I could see that. I guess i depends on how she did it.

A5 don't be afraid to ask the Ss their opinions

You’re on fire! So quick with all your images!
Mitch and Murray want their steak knives back.
Agreed! Smile a lot. Have fun.

Credential program should be all in-front of Ss.
HA me too! I wanted Pre-K!
Yes! ... and genuinely learn about what your students are learning about too! Model that enthusiasm & curiosity.
is my mantra. Maybe I should design the shirt?
A5: Be fair and genuine. Students have a keen eye for justice.
I think it should supplant credential programs in some way. They are antiquated & mostly irrelevant.
Something about the last name… huh. ;-)
That was a great decision during my credential year. Got great experience.
A6: Cheese! And for dessert, chocolate. Pure happiness
Baaa-daa-baa-daaa-baaaaa (not really making that noise come though on a tweet!)
Yes! When I bump into former Ss, I always ask for book recommendations.
w/o their regular T behind you making the "I'm gonna hurt you" face
that's an interesting concept...i'll have to reflect on that one.
A6: Easy answer! My family!!
A6 - My team, can't say they are 'small' but I couldn't do what I do without them.
Great advice. Reminds me of my earlier tweet about Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford. https://t.co/mqrykxJENp
A5: go with your heart and only stay in if you are lighting up kids' days. If not, find another passion.
so glad to have you in my tribe Lisa

A6: Hard to pinpoint… hmmm ... 1 thing - my !
A6: One little thing? I could no do what I do, the way I do, with focus and intent with out my family! They give me strength.
A6: Curiosity. If I ever stop wanting to learn new things, I don't know what I would do with myself.

Oh and I'm up to 2 for 6 Qs tonight
