I like the accomplishment of getting everything done at school. If I have to take it home, it just goes on a field trip and returns to school n the same state it left! #bfc530
Morning #bfc530.
I would love to say that I can get it all done at school, but that would not be true. Sometimes I have to grade at home. Many times it's blog posts so I can be anywhere thanks to @Google
I never take grading home. Most of my feedback is through formative monitoring given to students on the spot. I walk the room while my students work collaboratively. This saves me TONS of time on grading and gives the students the needed adjustment in real-time. #bfc530
Since I return to school many evenings in any week, I am home for a short time in the late afternoon.
I try to delineate home and school time. Email and social media blur these lines tremendously.
It's a constant works-in-progress. #bfc530

When my first child was born I decided I was going to focus on being a father when I’m at home, and I quit bringing home work to grade. She’s 8 now and I’ve stuck to that. It’s a critical part of self care for me. #bfc530
Grading with rare exceptions happens at school. Planning done there too, but always being tweaked. Out of building time dedicated to family and professional learning and recreational reading. #bfc530
I make a To-Do List every day. I try to get most of it completed before I leave. What can wait another day goes on tomorrow’s list. What needs to be completed comes home. I try to keep that list as short as possible. My family needs me too. #bfc530
I leave everything at school. I normally arrive at school two hours early each morning so that I stay caught up, but I leave immediately after school to be a dad. The only work I do at home is read PD books, participate in chats, and think about lessons. #bfc530
It definitely comes home with me. I have an epic commute. Also working in the communal space of the library on these things, isn’t so productive. #bfc530
My goal is to get as much done as I can before I leave. It will be there when I get back! I try not to bring it home, as I think that is family time for me. #bfc530
I try to get to school early (between 7 & 7:30) to do most of it at school. I carry marking home way more often than I actually do the marking at home.
I get 75 minutes of prep per day but it seems. To disappear in the blink of an eye!
#bfc530
True! I used to have the bag of papers that I would carry to and from my car some days. Decided that was an ineffective workout, so I joined a gym instead. lol #bfc530
Many of u see the photos of me doing the planning/grading in the dancing school lobby for 2.5 hours a day, 3 or 4 days a week. I'd like to use that time to socialize or run errands like the other moms, but I sort of need the wifi there #bfc530

When I 1st started teaching I brought everything home. Then, after having kids, I became more efficient & used time wisely at school to bring as little home as possible. Still around big projects or assessments, I would have to. Now as a coach, I have much less at home. #bfc530
#BFC530 An objective is finishing grading papers and exams on-site. However, Ss working online may need off hour support during exams. Give spot checks.
I will add that I remember one weekend years ago, where I was up at 6 to grade papers and grades all day Saturday and Sunday. It was exhausting and my kids destroyed the house. I promised myself I'll never do that again even if it means assigning less papers #bfc530
I used to spend endless hours reading S drafts & giving feedback, then doing short conferences in writing workshop. I finally flipped it - Ss run the classes while I do in depth conferencing. Life changing #bfc530https://t.co/cNQ30RmjkE
Good afternoon from Israel guys! Weekend is here! About the original Q: in Israel, Ts don't have their own classrooms. The Ss stay in their homeroom and Ts go around the school. So there's not much quit space for marking and planning. Also, no time in our schedule 4 it. #bfc530

Somebody told me that nobody says on their death bed “I wish I’d worked more.” The regret most people share is “I wish I’d spent more time with the people I love.” #bfc530
I do a lot of my work in school libraries, as I have no office, or home school. Librarians and their spaces rock! PS-Happy National Library Week! 😊 #bfc530

I actually prefer to do my planning on Sunday night after everyone has gone to sleep. There’s not much else to take home with me at the moment. #bfc530
#bfc530 As a member of the #leadership team we would be on deck by 7am to welcome staff and students from 8am on. I would get my work done in the 1st Hr & from 4-7pm Mon-Fri. Rarely took work home. It's about boundaries. Diary & To Do List critical in looking over horizon.
I wish every school was funded well enough to have a library. It makes me sad for so many students that they have been cut due to lack of equitable funding. So much magic happens in the library. #bfc530#NationalLibraryWeek
Sure ... I could do all my planning and grading if I stayed at school longer ... my “free” time at school usually about putting plan into action, duty, or meetings #bfc530
I was on a block schedule last year. Our classes were too long, but we had the advantage of having a long planning period. I was able to get most of my work done then. #bfc530
Now that my oldest is in school and they are all typically aslee by 830, I use the 2-3 hours a night to get things done. Sometimes school things, other times my things. #bfc530
When I began teaching my principal, friend, and mentor @Hemmings4Tom gave me some great advice. He said, “don’t take your work home with you. It’ll be here when you get back.” I followed his advice the entire time I taught. #bfc530
I try to finish as much paperwork and planning as possible at school by staying late, but I am still connected at home for the bigger needs of staff or the school that come up. I focus on my family by being present when I am with them. #bfc530
If I am able, I go in early, I go in. I am WAY more productive and efficient in the morning. Hence I am heading in soon! Have a great day and a great week next week- I’m off for April break. Be well. #BFC530
Need advice: how do you kindly keep from being interrupted when you want to get stuff done after school? I find many pop in, but then my work is not done. #bfc530
One time last year it was suggested at school that I should do some planning once my kids were asleep. I was less than thrilled with being told that #bfc530
When I have a deadline I need to meet for CO, I close the door. I don't do it often (maybe 3-4 times a yr) but that helps minimize distractions #bfc530

I envy the teachers who have the ability to grade while kids are doing something at their seats ... when my kids are working on something at their seats I am usually circulating the room. #bfc530
It is hard, but I have started setting aside blocks of time when I shut my door so people know I am trying to get things done. If I do that, I can be present more frequently for people instead if always playing catch up. #bfc530
This is absolutely true, but also easy to poke holes in with questions about providing certain opportunities for those people, achieving personal goals, and other conflicting subsets of a happy/balanced life. #bfc530
Whatever works! We each need to find a way to do it! My commute is way too far so I bver considered it, plus I think out school is locked up on Sundays. #bfc530
My husband is a night owl and can work late into the evening. I cannot do that ever! I’m so much better in the morning... even at 445 like it is right now in Chicago! #bfc530
When I flipped feedback I put Ss in charge - they love that! Every second week I circulate the room, the other weeks I do in depth conferencing. The deeper conferences enhance understanding & Ss have become far more https://t.co/M7aWBq8JCi#bfc530
We don't use textbooks & most Ts change up the way they teach each year, so there's a LOT of lesson planning & collaboration between Ts going on . Plus giving feedback to projects is time consuming. There's no easy answer #bfc530
I just keep working when people come in to talk to me. I say, I hope you don’t mind, but I need to multitask.
If it’s important or really demands attention I stop, otherwise I work and listen. People won’t bother you with the mundane then. #BFC530
Maybe put a sign on the door with the time that you'll be available: Free to meet at _:___. I keep my door open most of the time, but lock it when I need to get something done. #bfc530
I always get to school early (morning person) around 6:45 to get a lot of work done. I also use Saturday morning to prep for the week ahead. Amount of prep depends on how many of my courses are new or courses I am wanting to revamp #bfc530
I’m not a morning person, so my usual arrival at school was usually “on two wheels” right at (or slightly after 😳) the expected arrival time. I would stay late but still worked at home. Or went out for a few hours on the weekend. #bfc530
In this role, with an 8-5 schedule, if it’s an office day, I can most of it done at work. If I’m in a school providing PD, I’m working at home - but not nearly as much. #bfc530
I have done that in the past, however, relationships are the cornerstone of what we do... it may be worth it to stop what you're doing, or set up a time in your day to talk with people. Just my 2 cents #bfc530
I try to finish at school. I’ve got little ones and when I’m home, I want my mind on them. Now, if something funny happens at home where I think of my classes, then I send a @RemindHQ . #BFC530
