A0:
Jed Tech TOSA / math geek @puhsd@HeritageHSPats
I remember seeing local minor league @VisaliaRawhide (back when they were the Oaks, and then the Rockies). $2 tickets, $1 churros. Great times with dad and friends.

A0: Jonathan Synnott, Tech TOSA for PUHSD. Cherished baseball memory was Kirk Gibson hitting a walk off homerun in the world series in '88. Made me a Dodger fan for life. #IEedchat
A0: Tom Ashley, Tech Coach/TOSA @PalomaValley. Baseball memory: On August 12,1974 I was at Angel Stadium and witnessed Nolan Ryan strike out 19 Boston Red Sox. I was with my Dad, my Grandpa, and my brothers. It was #magical. #IEedchat
Robert Guzman
TOSA @CMIPerris
My cherished memories was that of the early 80's Los Angeles Dodgers and my dad taking us to see them at the Ravine #IEeedchat
A0: Chris Lara 8th grade history. I’m going to rebel and say that my favorite NASCAR memory was getting to see my dad finally get Jeff Gordon’s autograph after 20 years of trying #IEedchat
A1: Deatra Lee, Tech TOSA @puhsd. The first organized sport I played as a child was softball. I loved it immediately. I was 9 or 10 and it was fun being outside in the dirt. #IEedchat
A1: I feel mixed. Juniors are more ready for ELA SBAC than Math one mainly because they get the Interim Assessments and the Ss are ready to use the testing "tool." Juniors in math are mixed with other grade levels & it is hard to get them accustomed to e-test format. #IEedchat
A1:
I'm excited for this years CAASPP / AP.
@arceheritageHS is working with staff and students to build incentive goals for students too. Ownership and investment is growing.
#IEedchat
A1: I think some of the new math and ELA curriculum is better preparing our Ss for CAASPP style questions and thinking. Agree with @jswilliams though, this is just one form of feedback. #IEedchat
A1: I don’t think you can ever prepare them fully because tests are so flawed and create such an artificial and arbitrary sense of what was learned. The best I can do is provide as much moral support as I can #IEedchat
A1B: I think I would remind them to just relax and take the exams in a calm and relaxed mindset. Just making sure to try their best and not stress out about them #IEedchat
A1B: We have to do a better job giving our math Ss the SBAC Interim assessments. Also, the state making senior take the NGSS CAASPP test is challenging. They are only a month from graduatin and know it will have no bearing on grade. #IEedchat
A1B: With my Ss in the past, I wish I would have focused more on hands-on, learning by doing activities rather than focus on test taking strategies like eliminating answers. #IEedchat
A1b: They are as prepared as they need to be. We should not be narrowing of the curriculum to one focus. Students will do fine. Teachers have been doing the good work.
#IEedchat
Start small and and try building 1 lesson with OERs. When you Ts see how many resources are out there and how easy they are to access, hopefully it will be a start. #IEedchat
A1: Our staff has weekly PLC meetings & weekly collaboration time. Staff has worked extremely hard to prepare students, not just for the assessments. #IEedchat
A2: Honestly, my biggest success is building relationships with my students and respecting their autonomy. They are not just vessels that I need to fill, but passers of the flame of knowledge #IEedchat
A2: Motivating Ss to do their best, to take pride in their work and accomplishments, preaching that the test is just one avenue to show how brilliant they are #IEedchat
A2: My role is more of the test coordinator, so my concern is perfect preparation for the huge test: No confusion, great proctors, snacks, encouragement, and lots of quick support when something unexpected goes wrong. #IEedchat
A2:
Small group teams, common goals, formative assessment.
Really digging into the grind as a group over time. It can take years to build but I've been with groups that made double digit jumps in proficiency % when whole team works #bettertogether#IEedchat
It's so simple, but so effective. Changing mediums for assessments causes anxiety for the Ss, so this would allow them to minimize it and feel comfortable. Thanks bud! #IEedchat
Q2B: Do you have a favorite resource such as a website, tech tool or routine that you feel is very effective for preparing students for assessments?#IEedchat
A2B: I found these awesome assessment tasks good for getting our students ready for the science component of the CAASPP https://t.co/QnUVYTWtS6#IEedchat
A2B: Giving Ss time to dissect how they did on a benchmark, going back through their thinking processes has always been an eye opener for Ss. Often times they knew way more than what the question was asking but just need strategies on decoding the question #IEedchat
A2: one strategy I use is laughter. It’s a great way to get students to de-stress. Last year I had a student break down crying on day 3 so I had her step outside and got her talking and laughing which calmed her down a lot #IEedchat
Q3: There seems to be so much downtime during assessment season, do you have any lessons or activities that you would recommend for students to continue their learning during this time?#IEedchat
A3: Everything we do in our class needs to be on purpose. There is no downtime and there is only purposeful learning. If teachers are finding “downtime” during the testing schedule, then maybe they can design some project based learning.
#IEedchat
A3: One focus could be continual learning on Digital Citizenship on Common Sense Media or even having the students create graphics to promote good behavior online and in school #IEedchat
I know this seems to contradict what I stated in an earlier questions, but Ss need some steering in the right direction to be successful on these tests. Just wish I didn't dedicate so much time to it in the past. #IEedchat
A2: Like @jswilliams & @Chad_Shaner said, interaction with the test format & using the website is important. Most important is using the school year to build solid relationships. #IEedchat
A3: I did a lesson last year where students researched famous historical conspiracy theories and then they created a poster on one they had researched or they could pick a new one. Students loved it #IEedchat
A3: Testing time is the perfect time to break out some fun group, hands on learning. I'm thinking of some of the design challenges that @Dizon_Harris has her Ss do, where Ss attempt to redesign and invent a backpack out of paper grocery bags and household materials #IEedchat
Q3B: What can we do as educators to help our students with post assessment blues in order to motivate them and help them finish the school year?#IEedchat
Q3: There seems to be so much downtime during assessment season, do you have any lessons or activities that you would recommend for students to continue their learning during this time?#IEedchat
A3B: Teach them relevant things that sparks their interests such as allowing them to do things like PBL or 20% projects. Let them own their own learning #IEedchat
A3B: Be honest with Ss that Ts are tired too. Ts need to remind Ts & Ss to be on the alert to avoid having a short fuse. Also, daily encouragement to students that they can make it to the finish line works more than you think! #IEedchat
A3: Students could work on a 20 time project. @MathPrincessC has her students do this during the school year. Or, brain breaks, yoga, a walk outside. #IEedchat
Q3: There seems to be so much downtime during assessment season, do you have any lessons or activities that you would recommend for students to continue their learning during this time?#IEedchat

#IEedchat
FT: Learning should never stop, it should be a continual process that is incorporated in our daily lives. Promote more learning for them even in the summer, create activities for them. You know they are bored and want to learn more #IEedchat
FTs on State Testing and Assessment: The struggle is real. LOL. We need to support each other. The end of the year is only 40ish school days away. #IEedchat
