Hi #waledchat! Julia here, preservice teacher from Trinity Christian College studying Elementary Education. Would love to invite my #troll209 to this great chat!
Intros: Welcome to #waledchat! Introduce yourself, where you are from, your role in education, and tag someone who you'd like to see join you here tonight! #waledchat
A1: Two wins this week with tech! 1st was introducing resources to 6th grade for digital feedback along with @Screencastify, #EquatIO from @texthelp & digital portfolios.
#waledchat
A1: Utilized some things I learned from #LearnLAP and a video I got from @MrsAsztalos to help teach my students about Sketchnoting! They really seemed to enjoy it! Definitely want to use it more often. #waledchat
A1: My best win was really a student win. Watching Ss teach each other how to use the pneumatic station in our @SmartLab_tweets was the greatest way to end the day. #waledchat
A1: A win with Ss involved us using @KidblogDotOrg as a platform for Ss to blog about their reading. A win with me technology wise is finally setting up my blog. First post it up! Thanks for the encouragement @MrPStrunk#waledchat
A1: Tech win? So much happening every day in the lab. Kids did amazing things with @tinkercad and connected their passions to their projects. #waledchat
A1: I finally am getting the hang of using GoFormative and seeing what it can do. Was able to give and return a check-in to students in the same class. #waledchat
A1. In my Technology in Education course, we are working on our Digital Stories with the help of WeVideo. I have enjoyed exploring this new tool and look forward to sharing my finished video! #waledchat#troll209
A1: My students love @GetKahoot. So this week, as a part of our mid-year review, they created their own as a class. Then, we played it! Transformed what could easily be a daunting, stressful review into an engaging light-hearted review driven by students! #waledchat
A1 Using Google Forms to assess my Ss & provide instant, meaningful feedback. I can track tough Qs & fine tune my teaching and re teach as needed #waledchat
A1 I had Ss make 8-bit animated gifs in my Dig Citizenship class. The creations ranged from basic to elaborate, but all Ss worked very hard and were amazed at what they created! #waledchat
A1. Iāve been out sick the two days that weāve had school this week, but I didnāt want my kids to lose learning time. I used two different Edpuzzles with my two different level classes, and the results were on point! #waledchat
A1 Our Ss connected locally between two of our elementary schools for a @Buncee#skypebunceebuddies Peace Poem activity. Often I look for connections far and wide so it was nice to think global but act local. Also remembered all my passwords! #waledchat
A1:
Iāve been out with the flu all week, so I think my win has been creating a model of an assignment in Slides and leaving hints in speaker notes. I also tried out the record on the iPad to make some tutorials. #waledchat
A1: Bridget here! 6th ELA. Still glowing from the fact that my kids ask to take notes now we introād sketchnotes! Also, FINALLY did @Flipgrid I know, embarrassingly behind the curve - but it was worth the wait! #waledchat
A1- technology win... having my kids read their opinion writing ...... using @Flipgrid...loved hearing their voices and seeing their expressions while they read! #waledchat
A2: The biggest win-win with technology is the double edge of success and failure. Success = happiness and triumph. Failure = time to #failforward and embrace a #growthmindset. Win-Win.
#waledchat
A2: Tech opens the doors to knowledge that we as teachers can use to create authentic learning opportunities to prepare our students for a future full of innovation! #waledchat
My one win was that my students demonstrated great empathy putting themselves in the shoes of WWI soldiers and that they are excited for their upcoming Socratic Seminar on War. #waledchat
A2: Provides infinite opportunity to differentiate, so win for me. For Ss, it's meeting them at their interests AND preparing them for their inevitably tech-heavy future careers. #waledchat
A2: On my end, it consolidates our work, cuts down on copies, and pushes me to present my lessons in new, engaging ways. For students, it allows them to utilize their technology-savvy minds to engage in learning in a whole new way! #waledchat
A1: So, I just walked in the door from a blogging conference in North Carolina! (Super excited about all I learned today - Twitter & blogging are very much out of my comfort zone!) #waledchat
A2 My Ss love using tech naturally, theyāre good at it & prefer it to other methods many times & I love it for the instant feedback & ability to save time, re teach and do things more efficiently #waledchat
A2: It allows for teachers to facilitate learning in a way that can provide differentiation, and an infinite amount of resources. For students, it brings them beyond the 4 walls, and helps them to explore and learn. #waledchat
#waledchat A1 Two day chat with a third grade class in Tel Aviv, Israel. Not a Mystery Hangout or Skype, just questions ask between both classes. At the end they sang the Israel National Anthem for us!
#waledchat A2 Technology + Internet lets you spread your teaching knowledge to a GLOBAL audience. I have emails form many principals all over my State that they use my videos and curriculum. #PrettyCool
A2. It allows for greater flexibility. Students can really take stuff and run with it in ways that make sense to them. It makes differentiation easier on my end. And it saves all the trees! #waledchat
A2: My students win because technology democratizes learning, putting them in charge. I win because I am less worried about putting on a show and can focus on what my Ss are learning. #waledchat
A1: I got a chance to help a class use the explore feature on @GoogleForEdu slides. They loved the quick add an image feature and the ability to search topics without having to open another browser window. #waledchat
Q2: I can identify studentsā weaknesses, intervene on the spot, and re-teach subjects to address the gaps in learning. Students then have an individual purpose as a contributing member to our classroom. #WinWin#Schoology#waledchat
A2 It allows Ss to create and show off their work immediately. It allows them different ways to interact w work and remain engaged in different ways. #waledchat
#waledchat A2 The ability to bring in outside resources such as primary source speakers. We have been fortunate to have history makers share their stories and engage our Ss.
A2: Tech opens the doors to knowledge that we as teachers can use to create authentic learning opportunities to prepare our students for a future full of innovation! #waledchat
Marissa does a GREAT job with her students when using tech to help personalize education. Worth a follow if you aren't following her already! #waledchat
Q2: I can identify studentsā weaknesses, intervene on the spot, and re-teach subjects to address the gaps in learning. Students then have an individual purpose as a contributing member to our classroom. #WinWin#Schoology#waledchat
A2: no more sub plans, Flipped Learning. No more snow days in our district, online learning days. No more being put on the spot for our strugglers, a place to share, relearn, find assists that no one else knows about #somuchmore#thelistgoeson#waledchat
A2: It provides students with more options than papers and multiple choice tests. With tech, they can choose their own adventure and I get to travel along with them. #waledchat
A1: A parent emailed me today on our school's website. I answered back fairly quickly. She wrote me back and said she appreciated me. Gave me the warm and fuzzies. #waledchat
A3: A challenge with tech this week was figuring out how to use a smart TV was a display board.
Enter a published #GoogleSlides presentation w/ on board smart TV browser = WiFi display updated from anywhere.
#waledchat
A3: Lots of snow/ice days this week, but I think right now in general my big challenge is that I did not build many opportunities in the class to put technology into the hands of my students. #waledchat
A2 It can empower them to own their learning. They have connections to experts and a world of information at their fingertips. Win-win bc it's then easier to #makeitreal from a teaching side of things through leveraging tech. #waledchat
I have been using @1secondeveryday. Itās a fun way to capture what is going on in my class and school. There is so@much going on in a day and I love seeing what everyone in my building is up to. #waledchat
A3: We want to be able to mirror our ipads, chromebooks, whatever on our projector (not Apple TVs) so it's frustrating trying to develop an efficient work around without spending a plethora of money. #waledchat
A3. Resources! I had to do a little scrounging today to make sure there were devices for my kids to do the edpuzzles in my absence. Thankful that my division is moving towards 1:1!!#waledchat
A3: during the exciting @Flipgrid moment, helping my sixth graders get over their need to cover the camera or hold the Chromebook away. We got there eventually! But the planned 15 minutes turned into most of the lesson #daybehind#videonotaudio#waledchat
A3: I took on the ultimate challenge - 25 students on a shared google doc where everyone has edit access. Let the craziness ensue! I waited a few minutes and things settled down - it all worked out in the end but I want to be better-prepared next time! #waledchat
#waledchat A2 One of the great lessons/interaction we had this year was a debate between our CE class and a class in Monterrey, Mexico. Discussed current issues. Ideas shared and we learned to disagree without being disagreeable!
A2:
Students can get the details and facts online, and we can spend time in class ādoing thingsā with the details. Itās easier for all of us to stay organized digitally. I was one of those kids w/ crumpled paper in my book bag, and a teacher w/ scattered papers. #waledchat
This is a vastly under-utilized tool - bringing eyewitnesses to history into the classroom. More examples & their impact on the learning: https://t.co/5QilHTmkYe#waledchat#sschat
#waledchat A2 The ability to bring in outside resources such as primary source speakers. We have been fortunate to have history makers share their stories and engage our Ss.
A3: Challenge turned into a win. Kids working with @koduteam and couldn't save their work. @brooksscistem figured out how to export their games and allow them to work on it another day! #waledchat
A3: We went full scale 1 to 1 at my school a couple of weeks ago. Some kids are still getting used to the new routines and forgetting their devices or forgetting to charge. #waledchat
A2: It creates an atmosphere of engagement and offers choices for students to take ownership of their learning . While they have a blast , I can assess where everyone is . #waledchat
A3.1: Frustrated because I wish Google Slides would offer a longer slide transition time than 1 minute. I want slides to automatically transition after a 20 minute period. Help! @GTeacherTribe@ShakeUpLearning#waledchat
A3 Oh itās an embarrassing one but I had the classic āPlease Clean Filterā notice (which I ignored) & now my projector wonāt turn on for more than a few minutes. Time to address the issue! #waledchat
A3: A challenge this week with technology is having to learn a new IEP writing system, and getting used to it. It seems like itāll be a great program that will make creating the document more seamless, but will have to get used to the minor details #waledchat
A3: This whole week has been a challenge, technology and otherwise! Day after a SB win Monday, field trip containing most of my students Wednesday, and the champions parade today! My struggle this week has been how to use tech effectively w the little time I had. #waledchat
A2 - The opportunities are endless w tech! Kids are engaged & can work independently or collaboratively. They pick up on new apps quickly, & they often teach US how to best utilize them. #waledchat
A3: We are a 1:1 district. I have so many Ss that come to class with dead or nearly dead (out of charge) chromebooks. This even includes 1st block. #waledchat
A3: Posted an assignment on GClassroom but somehow removed the files attached from my Drive. This was for a day I was out at PD, so Ss had to improvise. Luckily they managed to get their work done anyway! #waledchat
Also have been fortunate to have guests come to school. Brad Long, Buddy from the movie Hoosiers and Philo Barnhart, creator of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. #waledchat
I love this! Once that foundation is built it allows for a constructive conversation...and once it goes global....ššš. Our team calls it "Emotional Equity" #waledchat
A3: I used a quizizz for my algebra class today but the graphs were too small on studentsā phones for it to be effective. Had to switch things up since many kids gave up. #waledchat
A4: Double....no, TRIPLE check what I post! Not the first time I've made file mistakes. I'm pretty literate when it comes to tech, but when I multi-task or try to move too quickly, mistakes happen. #waledchat
A3 My Challenge was last week actually, Skype was installed on my smartboard laptop and it wasn't working ā¹ļø Had to use my iPad as a work around for World Read Aloud Day, it worked š #waledchat
A4: As I plan for the next unit (and even plan as our school moves to 1:1 next year) I want to try to give them appropriate, authentic opportunities to utilize technology. Not every day needs to be filled with tech, but it is a tool Ss need to be able to operate. #waledchat
A4: The key for me in conquering tech challenges is to think outside of the box and play with possible fixes. I treat failures as stepping stones on the way to inspiration. Optimism, Positivity, & Belief... always.
#waledchat
I've tried this with my 6th graders. Yes, crazy! But also a valuable learning experience for them both in how to navigate tech in real time together AND in the interpersonal skills to make that work. Granted, I have used smaller groups since then... ;) #waledchat
General question. Has anyone done a Skype or other interactive interview with a Holocaust survivor? I think my students would be really interested in hearing a survivor speak. #waledchat
Q3: tech don't work without power. And while research might be easier, teaching research skills isn't. #waledchat gotta get better ELA strategies @gett_marissa
A4: Anytime that we make a huge discovery, we love broadcasting the wins to everyone that comes into our lab. So many new revelations happening on a daily basis. #waledchat
Have you tried Google Cast for Education? Works through wifi. It will work for the Chromebooks. We use AirServer for our iPads. No Apple TVs for us. #waledchat

@MrPStrunk, @MrsGuerrero307, @PHausTech
This can be extremely frustrating. At my old district a frequent quote was āIf you can remember to charge your phone, you can remember to charge your chromebookā. #waledchat
A4: For now, we are making do with what we have and having students share their work with us via Google, and then projecting it that way. It's just frustrating knowing there could be a simpler way! #waledchat
A4: Iām going to give students time to get it out of their systems. Then, once itās time to focus on our shared google doc, they feel less inclined to act silly AND theyāll have a clear mind with which to approach their task. #waledchat
A3 - using edulastic to give a test, I accidentally deleted the 2nd question off of a 2 part question. New kids that signed up in google classroom didn't have access to the test. #waledchat
A3- As a parent, I try to find a balance with my sonās use of tech (our iPad). I love that heās into technology but know that too much is not healthy. Quantifying ātoo muchā is tough. I keep it to a minimum but try to encourage his desire to learn more. #waledchat
A4: Iāll look at new things with an open mind and find the ways that it is helpful. If you canāt change it, embrace it and make it work for you. #waledchat
This is an EXCELLENT question! So often we recognize what went wrong, but rarely do we then see that as leverage for something greater. A much-needed perspective! #waledchat
Yes, I just did this w my 6th graders for the 1st time 2 wks ago. First time around they enjoyed messing w/ each other's slides. Now they understand how frustrating it is to work on something & have it messed w/ so they are a lot more respectful of each others' work! #waledchat
A2: Since I tch at an inquiry-based schl & focus much on authentic lrg experiences, my forte is sharing powerful moments alongside Ss, capitalizing on their ideas, questions & passions. But, I am lrng that tech can exponentially enhance those engagements for us all! #waledchat
A4. Fortunately, taking notes on what is learned and then bringing it home has worked well for me! Reminded me of how grateful I am to have access to internet at home because not all students do. #waledchat#troll209
A4: my Algebra and Geometry classes primarily use their phones as their tech in class so I will try to test out the activities on my phone prior to using them next time. #waledchat
I did a shared Google Slides, and overall they did well. It helped that I showed them the revision history after we started working. Google knows all and isn't afraid to tell on everybody. They had no idea. #waledchat

A5: Lots of fun apps that @PHausTech has shared through conferences and I found an app that can create online books. Would like to play around with a few of them and see if I can use them as a student choice option. #waledchat#differentiation
A5: Next week I want to continue working on @Flipgrid certification, push myself to choose conference sessions outside my comfort zone at #PETE2018, & try at least one new tool that I've never used before!
#waledchat
All screen time is not created equal. Unplugging is important but if you can help them #usetech4good, it could actually help them more than hurt them down the road! #waledchat
A5: Next week is shaping up to be low-tech in my core classes, but I'm hoping to focus more of my time in the @SmartLab_tweets with the stations I still struggle with. I want the expert students to teach me so that I'm prepared to help more Ss in the future! #waledchat
A5 We just got new T iPads & I requested that @Flipgrid be installed. Def want to start using this neat app!! (Sketchnoting is close second but that might require more research on my part) #waledchat
A5 Setting up @FreshGrade for my Ss to reflect and share with parents and @Flipgrid CoPilot grid for a grade level Black History Month project #waledchat
A5: I want to look into and start to figure out flipgrid. I see some pretty cool things and think my l ittles would really like showing their skills with it. #waledchat
A5: We recently discovered @quizlet live and are obsessed. Seriously, we use it daily now. Next step: students make the study sets for the whole class to play live! Can't wait! #waledchat
A5: not sure if it counts - but I want to grow my @Flipgrid experience and do a group challenge using it. Get them used to it with friend support. Also planning on using Orange Slice for the first time and am toying with screentastic #waledchat
A5. To be honest, I'm at the point where I want to become more effective what I have already added to the toolbox this year. My goal is to more fully harness the power of @Seesaw in the classroom this week/year! #waledchat
A5: I want to use the video record addition to padlet to act as a flipgrid work around. I also want to use screencastify to record comments. #waledchat
A4 - āAll screen time is not created equal.ā Great comment on my last post. Ensuring that screen time is an learning opportunity is key. #waledchat
A5: Iād really love to use technology to help with IEP goal data collection. Whether itās for collecting behavior data or providing passages and math facts for academic goals, I donāt want to drown in paperwork anymore! #waledchat
