  • Meffscience May 10 @ 9:08 PM EDT
A1: Talk about playing the game of school and how we are going to focus on learning and not the grade. Goal is learning #sblchat

A1 With parents I emphasize that SBG prepares students as learners not "grade grubbers" and "through hoop jumpers” #sblchat
  • Meffscience May 10 @ 9:12 PM EDT
Give them a score based on a proficiency scale (4 point). Sadly that has to convert to a letter grade at end of term #sblchat

A1 I find books help t show that we all have different strengths but then standards (& sometime rubrics) give us a map to follow #sblchat
  • WillCounty92 May 10 @ 9:13 PM EDT
A1. A lot depends on age and amount of experience with traditional grading systems. It can be bigger challenge with older Ss. #sblchat

Important to emphasis with the students the growth needed to meet standard. Be clear about the different levels. #sblchat

A2: In a perfect world, I would only use yet and not yet #sblchat
  • JayeBarbeau May 10 @ 9:16 PM EDT
We do self-assessments on each assignmentbased on the standard to reflect on the learning with quarterly reflections #sblchat
  • RoweRikW May 10 @ 9:17 PM EDT

Teaching students about SBG is an ongoing process...but it's really about teaching them how to learn, how to study, etc. #sblchat
  • RoweRikW May 10 @ 9:17 PM EDT
I really need to incorporate more self-assessments FOR our Learning! #MHSLearns #sblchat

A2- Single point rubric for formative, 4 point scale for summative. No labels. #sblchat
  • kenoc7 May 10 @ 9:17 PM EDT
Which is hopefully the end of year/course. (?) We need year/course long grading periods NOT terms or quarters or trimesters. #sblchat

  • leeannjung May 10 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A1 I intro'd it 2 this group in Bali as a way 4 Ts & Ss 2 assess TOGETHER in a way that helps Ts & Ss know what 2 do next 2 grow. #sblchat
  • KatieBudrow May 10 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A2 District has on 4 (not meeting, working toward, meets, exceeds). My Ss prefer 3. We drop the lowest one when we make rubrics. #sblchat
  • garnet_hillman - Moderator May 10 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A2 In my current district we are using 4 levels - exceeds, meets, working toward, and not meeting. #sblchat
  • Meffscience May 10 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A2: I used 4 levels. See the cool graphics below #sblchat
  • garnet_hillman - Moderator May 10 @ 9:18 PM EDT
So you don't use descriptors for the four levels on a summative? #sblchat
    In reply to @CoachLesterBHS
  • Perednia May 10 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A2. We had 4 levels; basically no evidence, little evidence, getting there, oh wow! are you showing evidence! #sblchat
  • RoweRikW May 10 @ 9:18 PM EDT
    In complete agreement! #sblchat
    • kenoc7 May 10 @ 9:17 PM EDT

    In reply to @CMiller_CSArts
  • CMiller_CSArts May 10 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A2: for ts who are at district with normal grading how do you implement this? #sblchat

    A2: 0= unattempted 1 = not meeting yet 2 = met #sblchat
  • kenoc7 May 10 @ 9:19 PM EDT
Need to be careful with strong words - “no” means one tiny little mistake knocks them out of top level. Why errors - very limiting. #sblchat
    In reply to @brian_arnot
  • leeannjung May 10 @ 9:19 PM EDT
I used 3 in my college classroom: 3=met, 2=minor revisions needed, 1=major changes needed #sblchat
