A1: #TECHTalkGA Ge-Anne, Whitfield County, Instructional Tech Specialist and Media Specialist Liaison. I think the key is for us all to work together and have some conversations like at #futureready Institute (PLEASE say they're coming back!)
Heym #TECHtalkGA! I'm Angela, Dist ITS for MS/HS + French 1 T in Forsyth Co!
I'm certainly not on par with @thomascmurray, but I think it's important to think FORWARD, be INNOVATIVE, & find SOLUTIONS to the things we want changed.

#TECHtalkGA Q2: As someone who uses or coaches #edtech, how do you also stay focused on student data privacy?
Join @mrhooker, @thomascmurray, @PlayWell_LLC, and Chris Shealy from GADOE on Weds at 4:30 in Salon 6 as they discuss the important Ss data privacy consids for leaders.
A1: Hey there everyone! I'm Nadia, from @CobbSchools, where I serve as the Digital Learning Coordinator for the district.
The key to designing tomorrow's schools today is communication, IMO. Provide space for all stakeholders (esp. Ss and Ts) to design and create.

A1: Kim Hoy, secondary math instruction coach for Hart County Charter System. One key is preparing students for future careers that do not exist today by giving them opportunities for problem solving and communication. #TECHtalkGA
#techtalkga A1
Ryan White, lead #edtech learner from #floydpln.
I think that opportunity is the most important way to level the playing field. Schools that build relationships with students and create/maintain opportunities are the key for designing schools.
A1: Howdy #TECHtalkGA I'm Jaki Day an Instructional tech with Floyd co schools. Wow, the future of school has to be more about student learning and less about teachers teaching. I have loved self organized learning environments. Check out: https://t.co/I7V8PjDlf9
A1: Deborah, Dawson county HS, media and tech specialist, leaders need to help others find and use their individual strengths. Learning AND leading should be collaborative efforts! #TECHtalkGA
A1: Daniel from Forsyth County. Content Specialist for Forsyth Virtual Academy. The key to designing tomorrows schools is developing and creating amazing interactive content for student. We have to get rid of the sit and get model. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Sarah Stream/Forsyth County Schools/Science teacher. I think the key is teaching students to use technology in a way that empowers them rather than addicts them. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2: We have started SERIOUSLY addressing this issue with EVERYONE this year.
While it started out as terrifying & left everyone feeling like "welp no tech" we have found a great tool to help everyone navigate the murky waters in @EdFramework

A2b. Simple step is to create a district list of vetted apps/sites that are safe and supported. Lots of resources out there to get started (don’t need to recreate the wheel) #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2
data, data, data
Always be cognizant of where stakeholder data is stored and how they may use it. Read privacy policies, MOUs, and make sure they have data breach insurance.
Don't give data away to 3rd parties without completing due diligence.
A2: One factor that I think is often overlooked in protecting student privacy is teaching Ss how to guard their info as they navigate digital spaces (especially on the internet). 1 oz prevention = 1 lb. of cure!
#TECHtalkGA
Great tie-in to the questions @MmeBurgess!

A2: #TECHtalkGA I do think it is important to train teachers how to look into the privacy setting of apps and sites they may use in class. @CommonSenseEd has an entire tab devoted to this on their website. I show this to Tchs.
#TECHtalkGA Q3: The worst sight ever when leading PL is glazed eyes or active disengagement. As a tech leader, how do you keep tech-focused PL fun & engaging?
Make sure to catch @teach42’s session called “Fear the Sitting Dead: Bring PD Back to Life” on Fri at 8:30a in Salon 2!
A2: Share about data with Principals, APs, Parents, and teachers without using "Tech language". Most principals don't know what a EULA is....we need to take time to explain these things. #TECHtalkGA
YES!! And we have to make that a conscious effort in our practice! How to use it for productivity, not just distraction! They have to be TAUGHT that - it doesn't come naturally!

A3: I try to give them small tasks and only a digestible amount of information. Nothing's worse than having isolated "tech training" when Ts cannot see HOW this information is useful. #TECHtalkGA
A3: Short, sweet, and USABLE! As somebody who is still on the teaching side of things (and has just barely started running PDs), don’t waste an hour of my time if I can’t leave the room and immediately use something you just taught me. #TECHtalkGA
A3: I keep PD fun and engaging by remembering what I enjoy and what I dislike when a participant in a session. Music, jokes, opportunities to respond, and getting first-hand experience with something new are many of my go-to strategies.
#TECHtalkGA
A3 PL is more engaging when the teachers take on the role of student. Give them the hyperdoc, assign them a well packaged digital learning experience. #TECHtalkGA
A3: Try to avoid large group presentation. Effective ed tech sharing takes place in small settings. Large group settings are less than ideal. However, if needed humor goes a long way, and providing time for teachers to actually use the tech. #TECHtalkGA
A3 #TECHtalkGA I had success with teacher engagement using the same tools I encourage to help with Ss engagement . Today, I used @PearDeck I'm Google Slides.
A3: I work with an awesome team of instructional coaches. We always try to make learning fun and engaging for teachers by offering choices, differentiation, and active options. We even bring in games/play to engage. #TECHtalkGA#onehartbeat
This is so important. Relationships are built in this space. There's room for questions and for people to "catch up" if they get behind or didn't quite catch it the first time. #TECHtalkGA

#TECHtalkGA Q4: Building a culture of digital citizenship isn’t a one person job - it’s embedded in what we ALL do. What do you do in your role to model & encourage this?
Don’t miss @sgarton121 on Thurs at 8am in Salon 3 as he talks about practical steps to make this happen!
A2: I like @mycalfdoll answer of having vetted resources. I also think that it is very important to have a walled garden for our students. And like @iamryanwhite read read the MOUs and make sure to ask questions and don't be scared to ask for help. #itsabigdeal#techtalkga
Entertainment and food is helpful, but if Ts don’t think the topic might help them in their CR we lose them before we even start ( note the backup grading they bring “just in case”! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3:
Not to toot my own horn (which I'm asking you all to do), but I try to stay informal, to keep the lang familiar & fun, and to build in opps for interaction, exploration, etc.

Sometimes this backfires - small groups often don't know the subject and I get frustrated listening to what everyone is doing - I want to learn something new. #TECHtalkGA
A4: each k-12 homeroom teacher is responsible for teaching 5 lessons. @CommonSenseEd lessons are used and teachers have flexibility to expand. #TECHtalkGA
A4: We encourage all our media specialists to teach @CommonSenseED digital citizenship lessons and several have earned CSE certification this year. #TECHtalkGA

A4: I feel like I have a weird/terrible advantage as a millennial here because I deal with the realities of tech addiction and social media/data faux pas every day. I tell my kids the implications of their tech lives because I’ve grown up with it. #TECHtalkGA
A3: I aim to remind my colleagues that digital citizenship is like face to face citizenship, but it's also a continuous learning process. Think ahead. Follow the golden rule. Observe the norms. Don't be afraid to ask and research.
#TECHtalkGA
A3: I think one of the most powerful ways is to keep it relevant! Based on some ideas from ts @ECCHSAPGOV we are going to offer differentianted PL on Thursday and have choice. Lucky for folks like @dyesjr and @jasonkouns73 to help organize and make this happen. #techtalkga
A3: I work with an awesome team of instructional coaches. We always try to make learning fun and engaging for teachers by offering choices, differentiation, and active options. We even bring in games/play to engage. #TECHtalkGA#onehartbeat
I think it's always helpful to have different levels of small groups...sometimes by age-group or content area...and then later by skill-level.
#TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q5: Leaders also work to ensure digital equity. This is equally true for digital use & opportunity as it is access. How do you bridge the gap to tackle dig eq?
@msEdtechie will talk about how STEM can help w/this on Thurs at 8am in Salon 1! Add it to your schedule!
A3 Con't: I also think that PL has to answer the why question. The framework I really have seen to stick is SAMR. SAMR helps frame and answer the question when using Technology with students and teachers #techtalkga. Also a killer music playlist from @Spotify helps
Yes, for sure! And that message needs to be more prevalent! We *need* teachers like you to TEACH students (and sometimes adults!) how to manage their tech use!

#TECHTalkGA A5: I worked in a school where students would walk to campus and stand outside to complete their work on the schools' WiFi. I hope that one day schools are open longer hours and serve more stakeholders in a day.
A5: In my online courses, students are required to have a computer and internet access. However, within the course, I only use free resources for students. I buy cool stuff to deliver content, but everything they consume or produce is always free. #TECHtalkGA
#techtalkga A5
Having a solid human and technical infrastructure is the first step. Ensuring/maintaining access to online resources and devices is next.
We like chatting but would love to see you! Mark your calendar for a F2F meet-up for #TECHtalkGA on 11.7.18 at #GaETC18! - hotel lobby after the after-party, 8pm.
Come when you can, leave when you want!
We're so happy to have you join us! We meet every Mon at 9pm! I know...it's late, but it's the earliest I can guarantee LOL!
Come back next week too! Will you be at #GaETC18?
#TECHtalkGA
A5: Digital Equity opens up such a multi faceted conversation. In my classroom days, I offered options for accessing digital content at school if home access wasn't available. Lessons (for Ss and Ts) can also be put in offline form so the info is still accessible.
#TECHtalkGA
Q5 #TECHtalkGA I think this is truly a whole education issue. Tech inequality is just one symptom of a larger educational inequality Actually, I think community libraries and other sites have done a lot to help with tech equity.
Free to students, but the county has already purchased it. If it hasn't been purchased, it is approved first. I agree. You have to check your bases. #TECHtalkGA
Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to everyone who participated!
If you want you or your dist tagged for a reminder next week, fill out this form!
@gabolhuis will lead the discussion on conf best practices for #GaETC18!

A5: Teachers sharing devices is proving problematic for equity. ELA, science, social studies standards reference tech use for research, writing, publishing. That seems like a reasonable place to concentrate. What will it take to accomplish the standard?
