#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.
I'm Noah in Denver. Currently teaching at UC Denver. Digital Badges community organizer and right now super focused on #BadgeSummit June 23 in Chicago #badgechat
A1 Experience is the best teacher - I failed a lot when I learned to walk, but here I am crushing it! We teacher with examples - the best examples are the ones we experience #BadgeChat
Great point Dodie! Teachers' failures can be especially valuable if we take the lessons learned and share them with others who can avoid our mistakes #badgechat
A1 We all learn all the time, mostly experientially. Failures are really powerful learning moments, if you face them front on.. OK, maybe after a bit. #BadgeChat
A2: Just the attempt itself! It's all about the process, more important than the product most times. How did we get there? What did we learn? #badgechat
A2 I've been contemplating this question all day - looking forward to everyone's thoughts... I love this concept! Maybe some type of effort points that is contingent on the next try - Encourage them to take a chance and push their learning #BadgeChat
A2: I think one great skill for overcoming failure is a willingness to ask others for help. Perhaps a "Seeks Assistance" Badge could do the trick:) #badgechat
A1: When I fail, I take the time to reflect on the failure. Often, I realize it wasn’t a failure at all because I learned from the experience. Provides me with the opportunity to answer Why? How? When? Will? Should? Could? style questions. #BadgeChat#LoveLiteracyLearning

Q3: A superpower of Digital Badges is the ability to attach evidence. What artifacts can we imagine “baking in” to Failure Badges to prove users meet criteria?
#badgechat
Used that vid for something this morning and still had tab open so took opportunity to recycle it with you. 100% sophomoric opportunism, not serious at all:) #badgechat
A3: Testimonials and Reflections could be powerful for these particular skills AND, depending on the school, could be products students create that get used in other places as well #badgechat
OOOO, really like this idea of a plan Dodie. With a graphic organizer template or #hyperdocs we could easily help scaffold the planning evidence to meet students where they are #badgechat
A3 Structured reflection, e.g.: What? So What? Now What? Or video reflection, a little less structured. Or failure badge as a pathway marker toward a milestone badge... "you ain't successful 'til you've been a failure" #BadgeChat

A3: evidence of reflection- not only was the past analyzed but a plan created for the future. There has to be time spent thinking about what happened, why it happened, could it be prevented & what are you going to do? Who could help you? #BadgeChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
Hi #Badgechat -ers! Kim here. Sorry to pop in late to such a fun topic! Jumping right in, A3: I like the idea of “do-overs” or “mulligan” badges that could include evidence of how you’ve improved.
TA: For all the talk about failure, at a granular level what we are really talking about are the skills with which we confront and overcome failure. These are skills we can Badge and that might be a valuable practice for learners #badgechat

A4 Failure can be opportunity. It can clear the decks of excess baggage and refactor your thinking. Demonstrate you can learn and come back stronger from failure and you'll have a great career, working for others or for yourself. #BadgeChat
Fun #BadgeChat y'all! Small but mighty:) Super appreciative to have such thoughtful partners in my PLN. Thanks for being here and sharing the learning!
TA: I love the idea to help others see the possibilities in reflection on failure and “rewarding” effort for overcoming the failure. #BadgeChat#LoveLiteracyLearning
Thanks for mentioning the future benefits! I think this hints at our last question that I had to skip...future employers are the most likely consumers for stuff like this #badgechat
