A2: The benefits of mentorship are almost to many to list. On the top is the opportunity to find their genuine selves - to speak with self-advocacy, to recognize they are not lazy or stupid and to share their view with the rest of the world. #LDChat
A3: Our Mentors are honest role models for Mentees to look up to. Sharing stories of both success and struggles, Mentors relate to their Mentees on a unique level that most parents/educators cannot. #LDChat
Be the mentor you would like for your own child, grandchild, niece, nephew or neighbor. Raise the bar of expectations, be proud and boastful. Set up an environment where, together, you can thrive and feel confident in your ability to take risks in class and in life. #ldchat
A3- We all identify with people who have had similar experiences. So,it will forge a common bond. Also,a mentor with similar experiences can offer advice and strategies that have worked for them. #LDchat
A3: When you feel accepted, understood, recognize and appreciated - you naturally thrive. A mentor that shares your condition and has made strides will offer insight, hope and a roadmap. #LDChat
popping in #ldchat on mentoring. Mentors are important for students in all walks of life. I know from my professional journey... finding an OT with autism was extremely helpful in hope department. I ended up finding on my own after my faculty failed to find me one of such.
A3: The mentor will "get it" when the child is struggling. When a mentor doesn't have similar issues, that mentor might struggle to provide appropriate guidance and could be insensitive to legitimate issues. #ldchat

I will use from adult perspective... sometimes it's reassuring that you are "on track" even though you feel that you are behind your other peers in school. #ldchat
true... sometimes the hard part is finding the right one! Personally that took me almost a year... and it took a Facebook vent to make it happen! #ldchat
I will use my adult perspective... the fact that I have direct involvement in my search gave me a lot of autonomy... so no feeling of being forced with a mentor. #ldchat
A4: Stephanie, here with us today, is one of the stars on “Being You,” a documentary that follows the journey of three students with LAI as they seek to define success. https://t.co/g18wPHDyPS#LDchat
