#EdTechAfterDark Archive
"Welcome to EdTechAfterDark! Our community was born out of discussions for a rich EdChat type gathering for those of us who are thinking about the digital edu-landscape long after the sun has gone down. For us night owls, when the clock strikes 10PM EST, you’ll find us on Twitter over at #edtechafterdark. All are welcome! Our discussions range from our philosophies about EdTech, digital best practices, and simply sharing our stories." --www.edtechafterdark.com

Jumping in a tad bit late!

A1:
“I don’t know how to do this.”
“I need help.”
“Something else is a priority at home over schoolwork and I would appreciate you respecting me enough to find out what it is and why it’s important to me and my family.”
-
A2: cannot solve the face-to-face interaction that is a critical skill needed to compete in today's global market. Technology can be used in many unique ways to collaborate and interact across the lands but it lacks a human element available in person.
-
-
-
A2: congratulations! You’ve made a safe & comfortable environment that your Ss feel safe speaking up in! Now step 2 is supporting the voice you provided a forum for, by not shutting down conversation through public discipline or shaming. Try !

A3: our students communicate in a variety of ways. Acting out or shutting down is speaking for the child in some way. Could be good or bad! By you won’t know unless you ask them to share with you.
-
-
-
A4: look them in the eye, kneel down to be on their level when you speak to them, pull up a chair when they ask for help to show they have your time and attention, use your active listening skills!
-
-
-
A5: if it didn’t matter, computers would have replaced us by now. When your students are ok being vulnerable with you, admitting when they need help, sharing accomplishments they are proud of, you’re doing it right!
-
-
-
A6: yes in this world where so much of what we do is published online and scrutinized publicly, I think it is natural to want to LOOK productive. But I think it is more important to ensure we are truly making a difference.
