Hi. Christine from the Sunshine Coast, BC Canada. Math educator, sessional instructor, and school trustee. First timer with #OrEdChat my BIG FAN of #InnovatorsMindset
Q1: I have always struggled with seeing myself as a writer. Did you, or do you still struggle with seeing yourself as a learner? #OrEdChat#InnovatorsMindset
A1: I don't see myself as a writer either...but I am totally a learner...I'm always learning new things and striving to improve my teaching practice and my personal self :-) #oredchat
A1: Hmmm...I don't think I've struggled to see myself as a learner, but I did struggle with seeing myself as a writer for sure! Also, didn't consider myself creative for a long time. #oredchat
A1 - Not difficult to see myself as a learner...I rather like it. Difficult to see myself as a writer, though, that's increasingly becoming a real thing. #OrEdChat
A1. I struggled seeing myself as a writer, reader, and learner. But my PLN, chats like #OrEdChat on Twitter, blogging, and my dissertation... helped me to realize that I am a learner... curious, really... with lots of questions. Makes me excited. All students have this potential.

A1. I think I still see myself as a learner because I am always looking for my next thing...that is learning....today is the start of my tomorrow #oredchat
A1 Hi jumping in late #oredchat I didn't start out as a lifelong learner as I really disliked school at a young age but now I love discovering new things while teaching and in life in general
A1: I may be considered weird, but I have grown up knowing I was a writer (maiden name Laura Ingalls-yes, related), and I am a knowledge nerd too, so I've embraced both fully now! #OrEdChat
A2: I try to give specific feedback whenever possible. Reflect 1 on 1 with each team after each lab as they bring me their finished creation concentrating on strengths. #oredchat
A2: Through sharing. Whether it be through conversation, publication, or celebration. It takes people applauding our talents to help us realize we have them. It takes feedback to help us reflect on and refine them! #OrEdChat
A2: Creating more opportunities for students to use their talents and gifts in the classroom. Teaching them to have a growth mindset is really important as well. #OrEdchat
A2. I take time to look for things as a principal I don't see kids at the same time every day so I make sure to engage with meaning when I can #oredchat
Q2: By praising students not when they succeed at things they’re already good at, but when they persevere with things that they find difficult #OrEdChat
A2: By praising students not when they succeed at things they’re already good at, but when they persevere with things that they find difficult #OrEdChat
A2: I try to point out successes they might miss...this week one of my Ss was named a leader of the Buddy Program...when I told him how excited I was for him, he beamed and he has actually been working harder in class since I made that comment #oredchat
First grade teacher from Iowa here for first chat. New to twitter as a pln. Yes I see myself as a learner. Always reading and trying new things. #OrEdChat
A2: I push Ss out of their comfort zones to try new things frequently, to go beyond the limits they set for themselves, and I encourage & model risk taking. #OrEdChat
Q2: Observation not praise. Writing and reading in interest area not to specific prompts. Share my own interests and passions. Be a person in the classroom. #OrEdChat
A3 - I don't know if it's 'telling my story' (I really don't care for that phrase), but I blog about my learning and how I apply what I'm reading to my classroom. #OrEdChat
A1: Always the learner. I struggle with trying to learn too many different things. I'm trying to get really good at something before I move on. I have taught all subject at the MS level, but I was a PE major. #oredchat
A3: The main way I share my story is through #EduSnaps (Join the 30 day challenge now!) I also have a blog that is starting to grow :) #OrEdchathttps://t.co/4IvXdWIa7I
When I model risk taking I make mistakes from time to time but having Ss see me model how to fix mistakes and/or look for another way to go about something is so encouraging for them too #oredchat
Yay! My great grandpa is her double first cousin! He's in the first book as her baby cousin. Peter and Eliza are my great great grandparents. I have their family Bible. #OrEdChat
A3: Been reflecting by blog writing. My site: https://t.co/oTM1rLVBgt
Also, super honored to be writing a book for DBC to be released sometime in 2018! #oredchat
We try to Tweet out teacher stories using our hastag: #cbsdtech Please check it out to see what we are doing. We have also added #cbsdpd to talk about PD opportunities. We try to Tweet 3-5 items each day. #oredchat
A3. Blogging. I journal when students journal. I make my reflections public to model. Embedded in my blog are my stories. I also share my “stories” or rationale in the class learning intentions. Being transparent, vulnerable, and authentic. #OrEdChat#InnovatorsMindset
Q3: Twitter has helped me gain the confidence to publicly share my story. I am in the midst of writing my first blog post, which is very exciting. I also like to intertwine it through presentations that I make. #OrEdChat
A3: I blog and post to #EduSnaps and #EDUdailyTweets so that I can share even what seems normal to me with others. Found I need to write, not just think I should. I crave it. #OrEdChat

A4. Never realized how powerful Twitte could be until I saw George Couros speak. So much good stuff! Great way to connect to teachers in our region. #OrEdChat
A4:So just encouragement to jump in and try new things, be transparent with students and colleagues (I think I already was) lol...and don't stop sharing and encouraging each other :-) #oredchat
A4. I know after reading this book I need to think about what TRUE innovation is for me and how I can think outside of what I should do to what I need to do with kids at the forefront #oredchat
A4 I can get frustrated with the education system as a whole but the whole concept of 'innovating within the box' has helped my perspective so much #oredchat
A4. @gcouros has convinced me as a Director to open up more opportunities for our students at #cbsdtech. Our Ts and S are ready for the 21st century. We have a great staff and we want others to see us as leaders and innovators. #OrEdChat!
I grew up hearing "You look just like her!" & I'd say, "I'm not related to Melissa Gilbert." Then when Dad & siblings represented Laura's family at White House/Laura Bush Symposium, one of Melissa Gilbert's sons touched my aunt & ran off saying "I touched an Ingalls." #OrEdChat
Slowly, I'm telling it slowly. 😉 So far only through few and far between tweets and FB sharing. I am taking it all in but haven't quite made the leap yet myself. #OrEdChat
A4: #innovatorsmindset has been the springboard for many great conversations in our district #cbsd. It empowers Ts to take risk, and embrace change. @gcouros has challenged me to reflect on my own practices & provided a springboard for many necessary topics in education.#oredchat
A4: It has totally inspired me and changed the way I had been thinking. I think "inside the box," understand that innovative is different not always new, & I take charge of being the agent of change where it's needed. #OrEdChat
A2: I show kids their gifts and talents are important by mixing up instruction and assessment. I help them choose reading materials related to them. #OrEdChat
A4: Good...NESS! I was just reading back through part of IM this week (had been awhile) and realizing what a HUGE impact it has made on my journey! Also, if you get a chance to hear @gcouros present....DO IT!!! AMAZING! #oredchat#immooc
A5: I can still be innovative in spite of restrictions, my story is special and it is important that I share it with others, keeping Ss at center of what we do. #OrEdChat
I teach innovation. This book (and chat)has given me many more great ideas and encouraged me to take more risks for student success! 2nd time trough the book. #oredchat
A5 I think biggest takeaway is I need to be ready for what is next and how I can respond and get staff to be ready because things are moving fast and kids need the best from us #oredchat
A5 The biggest take away for me is the interaction I have had during our #CoffeeEdu F2F discussions. Lots of thought provoking collaboration has happened during this time. #OrEdChat

A5: Biggest takeaway=Positives need to be so loud the negatives are drowned out, work creatively within the system, and put yourself out there. We need to learn from each other by sharing with each other. #OrEdChat
A5. Creating our own learning opportunities. As mentioned in A4, I’m a knowledge creator. I don’t want to be a passive recipient of knowledge. I want to engage in meaningful professional learning for me. #OrEdChat#InnovatorsMindset
Local folks! Remember that we have our continuing conversation tomorrow at 4:30pm at Mellelo's behind the old Costco! Join us for more Innovative Chatter! :-) #oredchat
