Welcome to #mnlead. We're glad to have here. Tonight we'll be talking about celebrations! But first, please tell us where you're from and what you like to do on Memorial Day weekend.
Hi #MNLead Kory, Elem. Innovations teacher down in Bryon. Usually we use Memorial Day weekend to catch our breath and get caught up on things around the house.
What’s up #mnlead!! Jen, elementary principal from central MN joining tonight on a drive back from Iowa. Headed camping (glamping) near Mille Lacs for Memorial weekend. Hoping to relax and enjoy a campfire or two. Plan to remember those who served too... 🇺🇸🙏🏼
I am VERY excited that this Memorial Day weekend I will get to listen to @JessicaCabeen give a book talk! If anyone wants to come down to Rochester on Saturday and meet me I'd love it! #MNLead
Akram, Dean of student and soon to be AP. Looked at my June and July calendar today 😳 and decided Memorial Day weekend will be spent at home cleaning and getting ready to finish the school year strong #mnlead
Don't want to jinx anything. One daughter will be in the 300 Hurdles and then the other, Nell (the one in State last year) is attempting both the 400 and 800. We'll see how it all goes! #FingersCrossed#MNLead
Hi #mnlead Steph Dill elementary SPED T in Colorado, jumping in a bit late. I'm looking forward to teaching summer school and doing a great amount of PD reading, all of which will make me stronger and smarter. I'll try to get in some hiking as well.
A1) I'm excited to have time to reflect, read, learn, connect, rejuvenate, develop plans, and collaborate with others in order to have a great year next year. #MNLead
A1 I'm excited to read some books and meet the new director i will be working with. I plan on being productive and finishing as much paperwork as i can so i can be in classrooms more next year #mnlead
A1 I am looking forward to some vacation time with my family, several @twins games, reading a lot, and starting the @AASAHQ National Superintendent’s Certification. #mnlead
A1 I’m teaching CIS Econ, both Micro and Macro next year - I’m very excited… But my summer will B spent putting together the curriculum… I usually create 75% of my own. Oh, and Im taking classes this Summer. 1 is “The History of Drugs” Should be a real page turner! ;-) #mnlead
Sounds like a good plan. Filling your cup and others. #mnlead One thing I did to get in rooms more was to block it into my schedule like an appt. It worked. #mnlead
A1: I’m super excited to go on a trip to visit a school in Costa Rica with my brother @ken_essay in June.. I’m interested in learning about their schools/culture. Ken tells me it will be a different/fun pace of life there. #MNLead#PuraVida
A1 I don't know if excited is the right word, but I know it's going to help make me a better educator, will be working on figuring out what I'm going to say. :) https://t.co/TYBcIYwff8#MNLead
A1. Lots of reading and planning for ways to improve PD experience for teachers. Also, focusing on deepening my understanding of mathematics and teaching mathematics. #MNLead
A1–Taking time for myself—SO important. Excited to catch up on some reading..both professional & personal reads. Also looking forward to decluttering the office and doing some long range planning. #AttemptingOrganization#MNlead

We better meet in person this year! The 800 should be a good race, I know Ava has been running well and Taylor K has had some good times so far too! #MNLead

I'm great! This month had flown by. I didn't know how many days were left in the year until I was on the phone with a parent. Crazy how it flies by. We need to get @willremmert to join #mnlead sometime.
In reply to
@AkramMosman, @willremmert, @willremmert
Yeah, I have a hard time saying no sometimes. :) This will definitely be a challenge, I have to talk for a whole hour! I'm not sure I can talk for that long and stay focused! :) #MNLead
Ava is just a beast… I know she’s on another team… But #Respect! Gotta appreciate what she and other athletes can do! #mnlead She won the IRC conference meet in the 800 by 150+ meters… LOL #mnlead
Leaders of Their Own Learning, The Book Whisper, The Limitless School, Culturize, The Innivator's Mindset. There are more that is the stack sitting on my desk right now. #mnlead
A1 #mnlead I'll be creating a 501(c) that will be used to better create educational experiences and offer scholarships to students for travel classroom enhancements etc. I want to eliminate a lot of the "middle man" & "well, we've never funded that story of thing before" mentally
A1 I am looking forward to some vacation time with my family, several @twins games, reading a lot, and starting the @AASAHQ National Superintendent’s Certification. #mnlead
A2 #mnlead I'm really proud of how we're starting to really grow the foundation of our WEB program. It entrusts students to take on leadership roles & be an active member of their school community.
A2 we had more graduates this year, we improved our IEP writing, we had sports teams head to state with Ss supported by our department - we will celebrate and improve in additional areas - goal writing and progress monitoring #mnlead
A2 - going with a PBL Type class. Being voted most inspiring teacher. Making kids laugh and smile. Generally loving each day. Our jobs rock!!!
Hopefully finishing my book, lots of podcasts, continuing to promote happiness. #mnlead
A2 A highlight for @LMECats was winning the 2017 National Blue Ribbon Award. It was an amazing experience for our school. Our staff works so hard and this was a great way to recognize it. #mnlead
A2.1 So thrilled with much of the hard work in #nfldedu. Started teaching @2ndStepProgram in PreK-8. Planned implementation of @CollabClassroom for K-5 literacy in 18-19. #nhs659 developed a “Flex Hour” plan to support HS Ss in 18-19. #mnlead
A2) Highlights include seeing how excited teachers are about maker-space activities and environmental education learning indoors and outdoors. They are creating memorable experiences for students. I need to give teachers more freedom and time for planning. #MNLead
Leaders of Their Own Learning, The Book Whisper, The Limitless School, Culturize, The Innivator's Mindset. There are more that is the stack sitting on my desk right now. #mnlead
A2: One of the highlights of my transition to a Tech Integrationist @isd47 was definitely the amazing #StormRace PD that @MariaBurnham4 and I created. So many positive comments and even better inspired Ts to bring new tools into their classrooms #MNLead
A1 I'm looking forward to presenting about #PrincipalsinAction at #USMSpark as well as attending #ISTE with some colleagues. Learning and connecting with others always makes me better. #mnlead
A2: Highlights of the year attended @IMSEOG training, got the rest of the K-3 staff sent to the training as well. Seeing huge growth in students. Hoping to get to the intermediate level training in the fall of 2018. #mnlead
A2 I think I did OK with my class changing from a 55 minute class to a 25 minute class. I am looking forward to continue to make improvements and make it even better for all the Ss. #MNLead
A2: I’m going to miss the RELATIONSHIPS I’ve developed with Ss, staff, and families in one short year at Burnsville High School. I received a note this week from a student telling me that I’ll be missed next year. Made my week! Looking forward to continuing next year! #MNLead
Funny how you mention time. I was part of a study looking at how we eliminate the issue of "I don't have time." It looks at how we communicate changes and permissions. I'm looking forward to what it uncovers. #mnlead
A2.2 Also thrilled about our community passing a generous operating levy to ensure #nfldedu’s programmatic stability for the next several years. More important than ever with the dysfunction at #mnleg. #mnlead
A2 The leadership of our students, the collaboration of our staff, and the regular classroom visits and conversations with students and staff. I'll be putting time on my calendar to make sure it happens again! #mnlead
A2 @ASCD Boston was good. But kidwise, getting 3 8th graders and 1 senior to believe in themselves enough to take pride in their work… And then watch their grades improve ;-) “Why are my grades better?” 1 of the 8th graders “Because you believe you can” #mnlead#tearsmoment
I see each class for that amount of time every 3 days. It really does go fast. We've done stations for most of the year and that's really helped with using time efficiently. #MNLead
A2 A highlight for @LMECats was winning the 2017 National Blue Ribbon Award. It was an amazing experience for our school. Our staff works so hard and this was a great way to recognize it. #mnlead
A2–started out strong with #GoodNewsCalloftheDay and need to do that more. Also need to be more deliberateabout getting into classrooms—get it on my calendar and make that time sacred. Biggest plus was finding authentic ways to connect with students. #powerfulconnections#mnlead
A2. Proud of the time I was able to spend in classrooms and meeting with Ts to discuss their professional growth. Also, loved seeing Ss continuing to take initiative to serve our community and others who are in need. #MNLead

More than happy to share our resources as it can be adapted fit into any district...our main goal was to have Ts do an exciting intro into a variety of #edtech tools as Ss - while playing a collaborative game. If you want the resources we created just DM me :) #StormRace#MNLead
A3: I started using @Flipgrid with my 3rd graders this year and they love it. I'm going to create a board just for the summer so they can check in and talk about what they read, where they went, just anything. I just want to keep the connection going this summer. #mnlead
A3 We have great summer school options, but we can do more to get more students to continue their learning, like connecting with them individually before the school year is over. Maybe a book chat or two would be fun. #mnlead
Thanks. :) I do know I am doing some good things. :) It's always fun when people come to visit and check it out, I enjoy being able to share what we do. And believe me, I tweet a lot of pictures and videos of the classroom and Ss. :) #MNlead
A3 I email and text w/ kids over the summer… checking in on them… That goes a long ways. I’ll see them at games etc… Build the relationships, then talk about goals and how to get there… #mnlead
Check out these amazing summer buckets for our students! What a great way to help support reading during the summer. @SweeneyElem@ShakopeeSchools@SupAnger
A3.1 We offer some excellent targeted services programming for kids that involve both academic and recreation. Our city re-invested in a new BookMobile and even a BookBike! @kimbriske has set up a summer learning challenge through @Schoology. #mnlead
A3– this is a tough response to simplify. They all need something different. Biggest thing I can do is be a cheerleader for them and let them know I believe in them. Challenge them to take chances & find something they enjoy doing. #mnlead
A3 We offer a "Launch into Learning" for 2 4-week sessions. All project based learning wrapped into reading, writing and math. Last year our summer slide was much less for the students who attended. #mnlead
A3 Because I now have like 700 students I haven't done as much with them for over the summer stuff. Also, I'm a pretty big believer in just letting kids have summer to themselves and not over-bearing them with too much "official" school stuff. Let kids be kids. #MNLead
A3) Not enough. We offer targeted services to support continued learning during five weeks of the summer at our school. We need to get better at supporting more of our students and families during the summer. #MNLead
And I know that there are gaps we are trying to close and we don't want them to lose what they've learned, etc, but I do believe in giving kids a break. Encourage them to read, that's about it. #MNLead

A3- Middle School Associate Principals are involved in targeted services in our district! I’m excited to join students and staff and see all the learning that will take place in July in #One91 ... let’s see which book will be the most popular amongst Ss this summer 😀 #MNlead
A3.1–we offer some targeted services support and I absolutelylove going to their ball games, recitals and I’m hoping to do a few “Principal in the Park” days to connect on their turf. Play, read, & enjoy a popsicle or two. ☀️#mnlead
A3 #MNstudies I love inspiring my students to @exploreminn, so I offer a #MNstudies Summer Bingo activity. It's awesome when I get emails from students & texts/FB/Twitter messages from parents. Learning doesn't stop because you are outside of the classroom walls. #onlyinmn
I think it's more a "help them learn how to read and do math" issue. Trying to get them ready and prepared for when they get to that 9-12 level. #MNLead
A4 I take a "sabbatical" over the summer. I still do some Edu stuff, but not a whole lot, my goal is to read just one edu book per summer. I really try to just take a break and enjoy life. Doing that helps me want to continue to learn and be ready for my Ss come fall. #MNLead
A4 I'm also heading to the #BWCA for two 6 day trips. No phone, no worries. Just peace, fishing and nature. That's my best time to reflect and plan. #mnlead
A4: In the past I really haven't had much support, or gvien myself any. However now that I have found such a wonder #PLN with Twitter life has really turned around and I have a great amount of support. #mnlead
A4 Time with my PLN in real life to be inspired, learn and chat in relaxed summer mode but also enjoying the outdoors while being at the cabin! #mnlead
A4–set some time parameters but also be forgiving if I don’t make it. We are often hypercritical & need to cut ourselves a little slack. Hoping to continue conversations with PLNs & maybe do a better job at taking part in a book study or two. (Totally owning it @bretdom) #mnlead
A4) For the first time in many summers, I'm not attending any national conferences. I'm allowing myself to slow down, reflect, spend time with Kip and friends, connect with others, read, learn, explore passions, and plan for a great 2018-2019 school year. #MNLead
A4: Love this question! Connecting with other leaders fills my bucket, reading, running, going to games, family time, especially with my nieces! #MNLead
Twitter changed my professional and personal life. Knowing how many people in the Twittersphere care, work so hard and share freely opened my mind to so much goodness. #mnlead
Absolutely. Most of the #MNstudies Summer Bingo things are applicable anywhere. Change out the #onlyinmn stuff like visit the polar bears at @ComoZoo or the @visitduluth Lift Bridge with something else. #mnlead
In reply to
@bretdom, @posickj, @ComoZoo, @visitduluth
I agree…this side of @twitter…has been a revolution in connecting educators across the world. No longer have to wait for “the district” to “do PD.” We now own our PD. No excuses. #mnlead

Checking out just a little early #MNLead Thanks for a great chat! And remember, if anyone wants to come down on Saturday to hear @JessicaCabeen talk about her book, let me know! 12-1pm at the Barnes and Noble at the Apache Mall right off of Highway 52! Make it a great week!
A5 plan and prepare for next year (make PD videos as references for Ts)... everything I can finish over the summer will increase my time to be in classrooms and coaching/working with staff #mnlead
A5 - Reflect on ’17-’18, keep the good, learn from the “not so good” and make adjustments where necessary. I don’t think I’ve ever taught the same way 2 yrs in a row… #mnlead
A5 Executing our plans…finalizing details, anticipating hiccups, and doing whatever else we can to ensure a smooth start for our students, families, and staff. And we will actually start planning for the 2019-20 year. #mnlead
A5 Keeping the momentum going! We are trying our first Kindergarten Readiness Night on Wed. We went from an idea to 32 staff "volunteers" coming in to assist from 6-7:30. That blows me away and shows how much educators will give for kids. That's momentum I'm talking abt. #mnlead
This approach…what to keep, whats to stop, and what to start…is simple yet so incredibly powerful. It doesn’t take much more than these questions to commit to continuous improvement. #mnlead
I've already started on the reflection and thinking how to make changes. One way is I'm writing in class minutes into IEP's so I can support Ss in their classroom and also support Ts with our Ss. #mnlead
Q5: Lots of learning, reading, planning, reflecting, and growing with @smcparland2 as we start a new journey at Metcalf Middle School in the Fall! #Excited#MNLead#HopeDealers

#mnlead will be on hiatus this summer but it doesn't have to stop. Feel free to host or make informal chats anytime. @mahillmann and I can help in any way.

I’ll add to this by saying, anyone can host/facilitate a discussion. #mnlead is a Great PLN, volunteer when the ’18-’19 sign up sheet is posted and tweeted! Hosting is awesome!
Let’s give a huge #mnlead shoutout to @bretdom. He was one of the chat’s founders and the engine that has kept it going for a long time. His encouragement means so much to so many! #bretisawesome

A6 my start and share are the same... I'm going to start writing notes and sharing my appreciation for my staff every week (every teacher will receive at least one during the school year) #mnlead
CTA: I will start by building relationships with our new staff members right away. I will share all the knowledge and experience I have to help others. #mnlead
A6 I need to encourage and provide more leadership opportunities for our students. They have so much to offer our school and community and it often goes untapped. #mnlead
CTA: I’ve become and absolute believer in sharing anything I believe will help someone! I’m constantly texting/emailing/tweeting articles, curriculum, data to my peers… I’m going to Start (trying, to say “No” more often.. #mnlead
Anything by Jason Reynolds, Kwame Alexander, Rick Riordan! “Amal Unbound” + “The Night Diary” + “Ghost Boys” + “Escape From Aleppo” would be awesome titles to read over the summer, too!
A giant shout out to @bretdom and @mahillmann for wrangling the last #mnlead of the ’17-’18 SY! You guys Rock! Have an impactful last few weeks everyone and Terrific Summer!
