#tnedchat#shiftthis and #champforkids. Hi all! Kristen here. I teach 6th grade science. One of my ss gave me these today. How can you be crabby with these things on?!!!
Hello #champforkids family! So excited to be here tonight! Can't wait to connect and catch up!
Kelly from Virginia Beach, gifted resource teacher, founder of #champforkids and excitedly finishing up Champ for Kids 📕
Hello! Miguel from Texas. Proud ES principal of a top performing campus sitting right on the border. For this chat I will tag the best principal in the world, my wife @AlmaGonzalez . #champforkids
Hello #champforkids...Melissa from the good old USA🇺🇸❤️💙! Would love for @berngill to join in if she can from our wonderful neighboring country to the north🇨🇦!
A1: The learning is not confined to four walls. I always encourage teachers to teach outside the box and make it fun and exciting for students. #champforkids
A1 It means realizing you and your life is as full and detailed as everyone else’s, anywhere in the world! Love that word, SONDER. A student taught me the word about... 5 years ago! #champforkids
A2 Connecting globally is like trying on glasses, you are always amazed what a new lens can do! Collaboration helps you see routine in a different light #Champforkids
A2: I can only think of great things that come from collaboration! When students join with other students...there is nothing they can’t accomplish! #champforkids
A2: Global collaboration is the future. We prepare our Ss for their futures by finding opportunities. Drawback can be how cumbersome it can be to facilitate in a class at points. But the positives are INCREDIBLE! #champforkids
A2: The benefits are real, relevant and authentic learning. The ability to learn with and from a global audience. To experience different cultures, mindsets, ideas and lives. #champforkids
A2: Benefit would be..Connecting with others who have different techniques, behavior systems, curriculums, technologies, etc. Drawback would be..lack of interest or feeling of "no time" #champforkids
A2 Benefits - expanding our knowledge of other cultures, opening lines of communication, learning from experts and students around the world Drawbacks - Time Zones 😂😂😂#champforkids
A2 - The learning and sharing of ideas can transform education. Also, just meeting others from around the country and world helps us to realize the incredible benefits we have in our country. Drawbacks are difficulty in connecting and time to really get it going. #Champforkids
A2: PRO: I am no longer out of date. The product that I am offering my school is always the freshest and most cutting edge. CON: Time away from family. Sadly, there is a cost to wanting to be the best. So many hours chasing chats. Need to find some balance. #champforkids
A2. Benefits: growing our family, learning empathy, cultures, etc.
Drawback- teacher who has never experienced it maybe overwhelmed, anxious #champforkids
A2: Many kids are only familiar with what’s in their neighborhood.Going global opens their eyes to new possibilities, experiences, people, and even problems that they may not have known about. The only downfall can be tech. problems. #champforkids
A2: Learning from one another without allowing physical boundaries to separate us. Allowing opportunities to not only appreciate our differences but identify our similarities. I’ve heard people say language barriers & time zones can be difficult at times #champforkids
A2. Global Collaboration can expose teachers to new or different ideas to support our students. One drawback is consistently making connections #champforkids
A2: Benefits include learning about others, developing empathy for others, and finding things in common. A drawback is not being able to actually travel to these other places. #champforkids
A2~
~collegiality & friendship
~ideas&resources are plentiful
~ feeling of “ we’re in this together” no more silos!
~connection w/all different kinds of people who share in doing right by Ss
~sense of belonging ❤️
#Champforkids
A: A benefit is students teaching students. As a result, there is a feeling of empowerment and pride. A downfall is my school internet is not the most reliable. #champforkids
A2: I like how sharing through Twitter I have learned so many new things. A downside - I still like face to face interactions and conversations #champforkids
Q2 there are not too many things in my career that hae given me so much satisfaction and encouragement and motivation as collaborating all around this world. It is just incredible! Drawbacks are that we cant all meet up as friends when we're
Not working. #champforkids
Some of my favorite teaching experiences have been taking stufdents on trips to Europe, South America, and Asia. If you haven’t yet, DO IT. #ChampForKids
A3: Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, especially social media. If at first a colleague is no help, ask someone else, and keep asking! #Champforkids
A2: Expanding perspectives increases awareness and promotes growth. However, all learners are not used to being exposed to such differences. #champforkids
A3 First troll some friends on Twitter, then when you feel comfortable develop your #PLN on Twitter It can open your eyes to how to differentiate and change pedagogy #Champforkids
A3: When you are stuck, ask for help! Reach out to your PLN buddies and don't feel too proud or fearful to ask! There is so much help out there. #champforkids
A2: agree with Jessica on the time differences which also minimizes the specific places you want to globalize with... however. It is important for kids to learn each other’s differences and see what schools like in other areas #Champforkids
A3- start small, collaborate with a colleague and learn together. Look for a connection right here on Twitter, reach out to global companies to skype to Skype in and enhance your curriculum...you can do SO much with water filtration #Champforkids
A3 Begin by teaching out to your PLN! Ask what topics they may be interested in connecting on - literature, content, #mysteryskype, #gridpals through @Flipgrid are all great launching points! #champforkids
A3: sometimes we want to implement everything at once. It’s easier to start with small changes you can implement easily. Like more student collaboration or more hands on tools during small group time. Then build from there. #champforkids
A3: find out who your kids want to interact with, then reach out via any channel possible. Most people love to share and work together. Never be afraid to ask! #champforkids
A3 (take 2): TWITTER is how I have connected with so many great professionals and I continue to use twitter daily even though I am literally the only person in my building who uses it! #ChampForKids
Hey #champforkids I know for sure that I have a few Ts looking to connect for #mysteryskype it is a great way to launch global connections! Getting to know other classes around the country is a great learning experience! @apopp517@EALewis2016@nmgarzia@MsHoioos
A2: Twitter. And to be yourself. It can be intimidating and you don’t think you have anything to offer. But then you find yourself, almost a yesr into chatting, with 3 chats going at a time, and everyone knows how much you love chocolate cake and outrageous thinge. #champforkids
A3: Start small, another classroom, then school, state, & country. Connect with others through social media & ask for suggestions & feedback on what went well & what wasn’t so great. Be willing to make mistakes & know it might not go as planned but that it’s ok #champforkids
Q1: How do you get your students excited about testing? For me - I made a character come to life for my students 🧚🏼♂️ game changer @NWEA#TheMAPTestingFairy#champforkids
Technology is very limited in the small district where I teach...
I'd love to try some of these ideas but I'm not sure of our technological capacity. #champforkids
A3: Connect with someone else who is already connecting globally and learn from them. Also, start in a place that interests you, or a place you may have visited - it will be easier to make those connections. #champforkids
A3: I started by reaching out to a friend who started her own business. She invented something using magnets which connected to our magnets unit. It was comfortable for me because it was a friend and powerful and real for my students. Start small. #champforkids
A3. Start slow. Ask for help. Take the advice you give your Ss, learn from your mistakes, never give up, be respectful, learn how to troubleshoot. Twitter friends will guide you and encourage you. Warning: this may change your life for ever!!#champforkids
A3: Like @TaraMartinEDU says, “Cannonball in”! Ask a PLN member outside of your school to join you and enjoy the impact it will have on your kids! #champforkids
A3~start on @Twitter ... follow people who you gravitate to, peeps who seem to speak to what ignites, inspires, supports you ~dive in and don’t look back
#gamechanger#Champforkids
A2: drawback - sometimes, like with any social media, you feel inferior. But that shouldn’t stop you from being your awesome self. Because the benefits? It gives you ideal, sparks your own, challenges you to be better version of yourself, you find people like you.#champforkids
A4: I’ve promised my 6th graders a connection with @AllysonApsey at some point in the year. 😍 She’s incredible & we cant wait to chat with her about #PrincesofSerendip#champforkids
A3: I would love to invite you to join The Empathy Project if you teach 7-11 year olds. Applications are OPEN! Apply today here: https://t.co/fhQFcBxDQd#ChampForKids
A4 Were sending out messages of hope this month by having groups create and share videos. I hope students from all over will let us know their thoughts! #champforkids
@hayes_melisa Q3: this is where the new age technology comes in.. numerous platforms of social media that allow research. However I would find an easy way to communicate with them and help try to explain a few things #Champforkids
A4: my goal is to do a mysterychat or Skype with a scientist. My kids are very interested in the solar system and paleontology this year, so they would love to talk with a scientist. #champforkids
A4: Continuing to engage my students with room transformations and topics they are interested in! This Friday is glow day and next week is Jurassic Park! I would like to pull in more technology with Google Classroom and Edpuzzle. #champforkids
A4: My commitment and promise to my students, staff and community is that our school will climb to the top and achieve academic excellence for every single child. #champforkids
A4: To make connections between our education and the education elsewhere in hopes of lighting a fire under some! Helping Ss realize that they are fortunate with what they have and shouldn't take advantage but instead..care! #ChampForKids
Thank you @hayes_melisa and @khoggardGRT for the great questions. For all my colleagues out there, don’t forget to do what you do with passion and have fun at the same time. #champforkids
A4:We are doing our best to connect w/all 50 States #USABuddies 🇺🇸 thru #MysterySkype but are also SOOOO wanting to meet some #GlobalBuddies 🌍🌎🌏🗺️ - if you are reading this #PLN Ts reach out because we want to meet/learn from you & your Ss! I will reach out too! #champforkids
A4: I am all about positively impacting others. One of my goals for 2019 is to create pathways for student to connect with others so that they can also take action and impact others. #ChampForKids
#champforkids A3 Check out @GooglePlus community Connected Classrooms Workshop. Teachers and classes looking to connect from throughout the US and World 🌎!
By the way, #champforkids If you could respond to my kiddos via Twitter or @Flipgrid code: c8dab5
Sh code: 4252
as to your location & temp where you live- would be amazing. They will be collecting 🌍 data & graphing this month;) #globalconnections#realworld
A4: Would love to help provide enrichment opportunities connected to literature for ALL kids. Learning can go beyond the walls of a school building #champforkids
