Q4: What should Middle schoolers (grade 6-8) be doing to look ahead for college material? How can educators help?

-
A4: Ts should share college stories with Ss. Their faces are priceless when they hear they have to write 24 page papers

-
Teach students to use their social circles to support their learning. How to create group help - great skill to have for college.
-
-
I didn't graduate college until I was 32, always tell Ss that they may change their mind
-
A5 alumni connections help out so much
-
A5 Ss need to see feel experience college campuses b4 making decision... so much education happens outside of class

I'm glad you jumped on with pics. It would have been creepy if I'd have stole and posted them!
-
Love this! I want to visit next year with the little ones!

A5: For KOTC this Wednesday, Freshman will research/explore careers, complete an interest inventory and create a 4-year plan.

-
More visits to not just the "popular" schools. There is a campus for all kids, just need to find the match
-
A5 I found lessons online that promote budgets, coping skills, living with a roommate, time management etc.
-
A5: As many college visits as possible! Field trips - even virtual - are great too!
-
A5: work at Starbucks - they pay (in full) for your ASU degree! while you live and ride bike to work and save a boatload of cash

A5. People now have multiple careers. I am on career number 3. No one would have ever thought about me in education SURPRISE!
-
Roommates
something people really need to experience. So many life lessons.
-
so much I would do different as a teacher now. Everyday is an opportunity!
-
-
Okay....off topic....I'm loving this "chat" thing which is new to me. You guys are incredible!
-
Yes, I didn't decide until after visiting the campus my senior year https://t.co/EPMprbTMDO
-
-
A5: As many college visits as possible! Field trips - even virtual - are great too!
-
having someone not your teacher gives a fresh perspective. Kids don't listen to us 😝
-
The campus size was important for my daughter too. Smaller is working so well for her
-

-
Q6: Final Lap: Seniors. Share your list of things that need to be done before graduation, and haven't been addressed yet.

A5: Guest speakers with whom our students can relate too, who can inspire & motivate them towards greatness.
-
A5: For 9-11, mentors, job shadowing, opportunities to get 1st hand experience with careers/colleges
-
-
A6:
So many apps to do.
Nice to have things like the common app or CCGI (https://t.co/wpJ1dRIMXI)
Do lots of apps in one place.
-
A6:Seniors, let me be clear as possible: Do not go to a for-profit college for your undergrad work. Quality is low & price is high
-
A5: At stated that we devalue other options for kids after HS by pushing the 4 year college pathway.
-
A6: Don't procrastinate! Take advantage of all the support. College Applications and FAFSA before winter break
-
A6 Completed classes: financial responsibility, character/morality, basic law 101, did I mention financial responsibility?
-
A6: easy: good grades, Fafsa, visit/explore schools, enjoy HS!
-
best advice ever… Don’t procrastinate!
-
A6 cont'd:
And scholarships!
Ss need to be on point w/ this. I worked hard, was able to get lots of little ones. Every $ counts.
-
A6: as much as we all love undecided, it won't fly anymore on applications these days
-
A6: college and scholarship apps, continue to seek guidance, think about your digital footprint
-
A6: lots of research and exploration and soul searching. I remember I changed colleges last minute because of a change of heart
-
Gotta remember that last one.
Try to enjoy life while finishing all the things.
https://t.co/tlTViWD1Wy
-
-
A6: easy: good grades, Fafsa, visit/explore schools, enjoy HS!
-
A6: Applications and more apps! Never too many. Don't forget and maybe a final SAT for some. is providing resources.
-
A6: pass economics and eng 12. It's amazing how some don't believe this 😣
-
A6 cont: Seniors, general for profits are accredited by https://t.co/qQyDln24b9 Stay away. They will prey on your FAFSA Aid.
-
A6: has chimed in-sole focus on A-G & not the bigger picture=adulthood after HS where's the true preparation?
-
A6: visit the campus before you accept. Go on school day and not on a tour. Sit in cafeteria. Listen and ask ?s of avg s.
-
A6: Do something stupid. You're only allowed to write off dumb decisions for a limited amount of time.
*not pregnancy/tattoos
-
A6: try to enjoy your life if at all possible in the rush of Sr. year
-
I think applying for scholarships is often missed by seniors.
-
A6: grades Sr. year still count, calendar of deadlines for applications, list of information needed for FAFSA
-
a1: Unfortunately, it wasn't until the spring of my senior year. A had a wonderful counselor that helped me.
-
Gather your final thoughts...
-
-
A6: HS seniors should read 's entire blog and learn how money really works before they ensnare themselves in debt
-
a2: For me a great challenge was the cost of college. And that was when college was cheap.
-
Any final thoughts on and life after high school?
-
A2:
General Financial planning is something overlooked
Like money management and other important issues
-
a2: Cost is still an issue. In addition, knowing what majors will acutally result in a job.
-
is the cooliest!!! Thank you for the intro. More students should get involved.
-
a2: And understanding that you probably won't get a job with that directly connects to your major.
-
Love having you, Alex! Spread the word!
-
Final thought: It's never to late to get your education as long as you are detrmined and believe in yourself.
-
Every student deserves to have dreams and goals. We need to help harness their talents to maximize their potential.
-
a2: So plan on a field and then get a broad education that will make you marketable in that field.
-
-
FT: college is awesome and amazing but not for everyone. We need to be sure Ss know all the options they have after HS
-
A6: All Seniors need to fill out their FAFSA. From there they need to apply to a UC, CC, CSU, private, military, or trade school.
-
FT: looking forward to and it was great chatting a whole hour
-
Understanding of how to overcome common obstacles that come along,as there are mistakes that lots of young adults make
-

-
Enjoy learning for sake of learning and not just $$$$
-
a3: I think we have one of the lowest rates of college attendance in the state.
-
FT: Love the emphasis on college and the balance with career readiness at with .
-
Final thoughts on on : "You are braver than you believe. Stronger than you seem. And smarter than… https://t.co/wc9jMny3lN
-
Final thoughts: encourage and inspire our kids to dream big is a great opportunity explore for the future
-
a4: I think the AVID college trips are great. I also wish there were more job shadowing opportunities available.

-
Thanks for joining ! Next week our topic will be the Art and Science of Feedback
-
FT: We can all find a few kids to take under our wing that need the extra guidance and/or inspiration!
-
A4: colleges should be a part of every family vacation, even if it is the local ones. Go see free stuff at colleges.
