Nancy Greenwood Central HS Art, I hope that students say that they enjoy being in my class and that they learned something. I also want my students to know that they can talk to me about anything. #gfedchat
A2: I think that students feel comfortable and know that they are welcomed and cared for and that we, as teachers, will always have their best interests. #gfedchat
A2: I know some people say that a home-like atmosphere is set with the arrangement of the classroom. It’s difficult to do that when you teach in a gym. I try to set the learning experience with clear expectations. #gfedchat
A2: I believe that creating a home-like atmosphere sets the tone for the class. The decor, lighting, seating, and temperment of teacher allows the students to feel comfortable, meaning they can be themselves in the classroom.
#gfedchat
A2: It can allow students to be more at ease when they come to school. It also can allow students to be more successful in a place that they enjoy being in. #gfedchat
A2- When students feel comfortable and trust you as you show interest in them and passion towards your students just like parents should, students will start to take chances and go above and beyond for you. #gfedchat
A2: Creating a home like environment means that my students feel cared for, safe, and comfortable to be who they are. I want my students to know it's okay to fall, as long as they get back up.#gfedchat
A2 If you create an atmosphere that is comfortable, organized - to a point - and inviting, I think most students would more likely be able and ready to learn. I'm a better teacher when I feel comfortable in my own setting.
#gfedchat
A2: Home should be a place where a student feels safe, cared for, and accepted. If I can create an atmosphere which fosters the learning experience because it feels safe and the students are loved then I have succeeded. #gfedchat
A2: Creating a home atmosphere serves as meeting the Ss basic level needs - makes them feel safe and cared for. When those needs are met, Ss are ready to learn. #gfedchat
A2: have fun, dance, be goofy, show them they are loved and that what they have to say is important, give them a say, set limits, set high expectations #gfedchat
A2: Ss feel comfortable finding what they need, taking risks, contributing to the group, sharing what they know/can do, build a sense of responsibility, agree/disagree but always support one another #gfedchat
A2: creating a home like classroom is important to help kids feel comfortable and welcomed. I seat my kids at round tables and I have lots of decorations and plants to make it homey. #gfedchat
A3: I feel that both are important for when working with students. Though, when you think about working with a variety of students ranging in age and maturity you have to have the highest of patience for each and every student.#gfedchat
A3: I believe that hope is the most important because you need to show the students that they have hope for their future. You as their teacher need to express they have hope to succeed.
#gfedchat
A2: Comfortable seating, plants, student created work on the walls, greeting students at the door every single day, engaging student voice, choice and leadership in the classroom. #gfedchat
A2: Just creating that comfortable atmosphere...letting kids get to know each other so they are comfortable sharing. I also like lamps instead of overhead lighting. #gfedchat
I think patience is more important of the two as it takes a lot of patience to work with students who are disruptive on a daily basis, but then you also hope they learn from their choices figure out what works for them #gfedchat
A3: I think patience is important because when demonstrating skills, you have to have patience with the kids who might struggle with “picking it up”.#gfedchat
A3: Tough choice, but I have to say patience. If you're not patient Ss will see this and they themselves can lose that hope. Ss need to know things don't happen instantly but patience can pay off. #gfedchat
A3: In Kindergarten, patience. Giving Ss time to respond... giving Ss time to make personal connections, patience in learning routines and procedures. #gfedchat
A3: I think patience is important because when demonstrating skills, you have to have patience with the kids who might struggle with “picking it up”.
#gfedchat
A3: I feel patience and hope work beautifully together. Hope means many different things to each student, patience is the key to getting there. #gfedchat
A3: Patience is huge for me. Kids feel nervous and uneasy when they do some of my assignments. I tell them it's okay and we will get there together the best we can. #gfedchat
A3: patience- students need to know that you believe in them and will be by their side through their struggles because you know they can succeed #gfedchat
A3: Hope - Students should have hope for their future, ability to lead, grow, learn and make a impact outside of themselves. When you approach each day with hope - anything can happen. #gfedchat
A3: I'm going to say showing and demonstrating patience is really important in education. By doing this students will know you care and believe in them to continue to try even when things are difficult. #gfedchat
A3: Gotta vote for patience here. So many of our students don't experience an adult who has the patience to teach them something, listen to them, or help them. "Good things come to those who wait." #gfedchat
A3: Patience! Letting kids work at their own pace and giving them more than one chance is important and helps the kids learn that you care about them!! #gfedchat
A3 - Patience. Ss need to trust that you aren't going to give up on them - regardless of how long it takes for them to get to the finish line. #gfedchat
A3: Both are extremely important, but I believe patience is important not only for educators to have with students, but for Ss to have for themselves. Things come so instantly in today's world that when things aren't immediately understood Ss tend to get frustrated #gfedchat
A4: I let them know that not everyone is successful in certain mediums of art--find they medium that they are successful in and flourish. Listen, care, and be a role model for them #gfedchat
A4: Just being there, whether supervising games/activities, coaching, helping with homework, you are showing them that they do matter and they are more likely to work with you. #gfedchat
A3: Patience in their learning because then they know you won’t give up on them and gives them a sense of growth mindset to know the teacher believes in them has the potential and knows they are trying their very best #gfedchat
A4: Listen more and talk less - allow students to do the talking, problem solving and modeling of their thinking. It's a little thing to open our ears and hearts. But, so impactful! #gfedchat
A4 - Check in with them. Talk to them. When you notice Ss doing the RIGHT thing, recognize it, and praise them. Don't let that moment pass by. #gfedchat
A4: One of the little things we can do is to really listen to the students when they speak...many of my students feel like they are not heard.
#gfedchat
A4: Say good morning. Have meaningful conversations with them. Learn their interests. Show them you care about them. Teach them it's ok to make mistakes. So many little things really can make a difference. #gfedchat
A4 - with preschoolers, a simple hug or a pat on the back - greeting them at the door every morning - taking an interest in their hobbies and likes #gfedchat
A4: I think what we can do as educators is support our students. Sometimes it's easy to forget that we are some students only supportive adult. It is important to take the time to acknowledge the students and what they are involved in and what they have achieved. #gfedchat
A4: Little things can mean a bowl of fruit on the desk to grab from, no need to ask. Welcome each child as they walk in your door, each time, like it's the first time you have seen them in a week, even if they are scowling! #gfedchat
A4: Listening to them, make them feel welcome and heard, take time to have a conversation and get to know students on a more personal level. Not every day has to be business like. #gfedchat
A5: Attitude wears off on people. If you are a positive mindset and work hard, people & kids will notice and sometimes help them with their day. Plus us adults have been through their ages. We can help them! #gfedchat
A5: Having a positive mindset helps Ss see/hear the kind of impact it can have on our mood & attitude. Just like we model so many other things we want our Ss to learn/demonstrate. #gfedchat
A5: I feel that the more positive you are with Ss the more fun you will have with them and they you. If you are negative Ss sense that and feed of it as well. #gfedchat
A5: I firmly believe every moment is a new moment to begin again. Modeling this for Ss is teaching Ss to have a positive outlook and a growth mindset #gfedchat
A5: I think that displaying a positive mindset will help our students to put forth a positive attitude towards everything that comes their way.
#gfedchat
Positivity and negativity are contagious. If you are negative, they will be. Likewise if you are positive and upbeat they can feed off of that #gfedchat
A5: If you model a positive outlook on things it has to be contagious with your students!
Show them that with a little positive reinforcement much can be accomplished!
#gfedchat
A5: when I make mistakes or when things don’t go as planned I tell my kids that it’s okay and that we can roll with it. Display positivity and the kids will follow suit. #gfedchat
A5: Having a positive attitude shows Ss that things are all about perspective. I have started class many times being honest with my Ss about when I'm having an off day. I don't dwell on it and I hope it shows them that they it's never too late to start the day over. #gfedchat
A5: By modeling the ability to embrace "failing up" we give students the amazing gift of becoming self-directed learners. Learning by trying, revising and making it better is the best learning. #gfedchat
A6: Failure is the opportunity to try again and make it better. If we improve because of our mistakes - we are truly successful. You only fail if you don't get up and try again. #gfedchat
A6: Every single day I point out my mistakes to Ss. I feel they need to know mistakes and failure are a part of life and that we learn from them. It's oka to fail as long as you try. #gfedchat
A6: Failing is just a set back. But also, I can't remember the last time I felt like I failed. All we can do is try our best and do the best that we can. Be good people and show that to our kids. #gfedchat
I don’t consider a non-accomplishment as a failure. In fact, it’s a learning accomplishment. Students may “fail”, but these failures can be used to correct the wrong in the future, if one so chooses to view it that way. #gfedchat
A6: In my engineering class I tell the students they have to fail in my class to be able to pass my class! Engineers always have to try try try again before they get it right!
#gfedchat
A6: Failure is a step along the path to success. I often talk with Ss about failing to accomplish something doesn't mean it's the end; it's a pause until they find something else to try and hopefully make different mistakes. I also tell them "practice makes better" #gfedchat
A6: failure is a part of life and it helps us grow, when I make mistakes I tell me Ss that even teachers make mistakes and that it’s okay we just need to learn from them #gfedchat
A6 So many new things are "discovered" because of failures or frustrations. When working hard on something, I just tell the kids "look at how good I am at not doing this correctly!"
#gfedchat
A6: Failure is important for growth!! I always tell my students that it’s okay to fail and that they can always try again. I allow my kids to redo all their work/tests if they aren’t happy with their results because they can grow from the mistakes. #gfedchat
A6: Depending on the failure, it can be extremely frustrating, but it's always a learning opportunity. Remembering this helps to connect with the Ss when they face failure. #gfedchat
A6: I view failure with empathy, acceptance, and encouragement. Accepting failure with empathy and encouragement will allow a Ss to keep trying until they succeed #gfedchat
A6: Kids are afraid of failure. Many won't even try something they aren't 100% sure they'll succeed at. So I guess our challenge is to make "failure" less of an f-word. Create classes where they equate it with growth. Who was it who said "I either win or I learn"? #gfedchat
A6 We have to teach kids how can they learn from their mistakes, what can they do better next time, even from spilled milk, we teach that maybe next time they can pour only half a glass or to keep in in the safe spot #gfedchat
A6: Failure is part of the learning process, let them know it’s okay, mistakes tell us what we still need to work on & show that perseverance can pay off, Ss that always find school to be easy have hardest time with failure & perseverance never have had to work for it #gfedchat
A7: I feel that when we are straightforward and honest with not only ourselves but with our Ss it helps them in the long run. I feel that the seeds that we can plant are seeds of truth and honesty for what we expect for and from them. #gfedchat
A7: I like to plant seeds of positive reinforcement. I know many students can go through the day without hearing something positive. I try to speak kind words because they positivity grows positivity.
#gfedchat
The seeds that I want to plant in my students is that the real world is different from what they experience within the school walls. Actions have different consequences outside of the school than they do within the school #gfedchat
A7: I give positive feedback. If a student messes up during an activity or learning a new skill I will try to reinforce their performance, but then give suggestions for next time.
#gfedchat
A7: they are smart & kind, being kind human beings is the most important thing they can learn, hard work pays off, mistakes are there to let us know what we still need to work on #gfedchat
A7: accountability, work ethic, critical thinking, humor, hopefully a sense of acceptance, not all subjects are their favorite but it makes them a well rounded and prepared
#gfedchat
A7: I try to plant curiosity in my students. I want them to never let life grow mundane because they were afraid to ask questions or to dig deeper into something that interests them. #gfedchat
A7: I've shared a couple personal stories about big mistakes I made as an elementary student. The kids gasp & say things like, "But you're the school counselor!" Yep, but I made some of the same mistakes you guys make. You, too, can do better. #gfedchat
A8: There aren't many original ideas in art--but to take concepts/ideas and created your own it will become better than the original. From The WIld Card! #gfedchat
A8: YES! We are preparing our students for jobs that don't even exist yet. They need to be problem finders/solvers and think outside of the box #gfedchat
A8: Yes but I also feel thinking creatively and out of the box are all ways of being innovative. I don't know kids always think of the word innovative. Just a different way to look at things. #gfedchat
A8: I think it depends on the age of the student. As they get older and have the basics mastered is when they can start to focus more on being innovative!!
#gfedchat
A8: Problem solving and critical thinking - making your learning applicable for your success - all about taking what you know and spinning it into something new that work for you, solves the problem, creates opportunity, etc. #Innovation#gfedchat
A8: I do think it’s important for students to think in innovative ways because they are knowledgeable about applications and sites we as teachers might not be familiar with.
#gfedchat
A8: Introducing innovation to students can be done through encouraging them to think outside the box, demonstrate learning in their own way, setting them up with a growth mindset. #gfedchat
