The #TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create collaborative connections, share educational resources, and foster life-long learning.
#FutureReadyLibs "Techbrarians"should first work with students on finding, understanding, evaluating, creating & communicating digital information in a responsible manner. My Digital Literacy page https://t.co/om251GZS7c#txlchat
A1: We have to help our schools and districts address the Digital Divide. Check out hotspots, devices, and whatever our Ss need. We also must keep raising the issue to our leadership.
#TXLchat
A1 Equity of access is becoming a bigger part of our job. We are often the only ones trying to do something about access on our campuses. Even though the silence can be deafening, we must continue to speak up for ALL Ss! #TXLChat#futurereadylibs

A1: This week our middle school students have been coming into Library before school to finish up projects and print out research projects. I am so glad I can offer these before school opportunities. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
Thanks for joining us tonight, Sheri. Just passed through your area to and from #TCEA and heading back down again this weekend for volleyball. #txlchat
A1: I agree, we must provide students every opportunity to access information through hot spots, providing extra hours before and after regular school hours, and allowing check-out of devices too!! #txlchat
A2 Everything! We can offer all of our services online 24/7. Screencasts, clicksheets, links to free & subscription resources that are organized by subject. Making sure there are multiple access points-our info can be found not just on the library page. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A1. By providing multiple points of access, we offer a variety of resources. After all, some students may not have access to a pc or wifi, but many can sometime use phones. Not everyone, but a start. We can also extend hours, help w/ transport or check out devices #txlchat
A1: Holding parent/nighttime events providing resources and access, checking out HotSpots to students who need WiFi, and advocating for more resources. For me the struggle is real. #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
A1 We provide graphing calculators and Kindles for circulation but don’t have Chromebooks available for individual students. Need to look into hotspots for home and chargers for school use. #txlchat
A2: Provide state databases and supplement with others district/school databases to fill in gaps in resources. Provide a digital portal to research projects including any handouts teachers provide- like a one-stop-shop. #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
Love "One-stop-shop." That's what I called my HS library webpage instead of "HS library webpage!" Before I knew it, Ts and Ss called it that too! #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A3 Lunch and Learns, Toilet Paper/Potty Training, community newsletters, district events, staff and student newsletters, on the announcements... #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A3: The best way to shared digital resources and tools is to lead by example. Let stakeholders observe how Librarians are integrating tech into all aspects of teaching. Offer mini PD to teachers. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A3: Share digital resources and tools at every opportunity - use your school or district's social media hashtags, newsletters, weekly emails, posters, lessons, professional development, parent events, community events, skywriting, celebrity endorsements. #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A2 Sessions at #TCEA got me thinking about what our campus and district need to be doing for students AND families in respect to digital citizenship #txlchat
A2: Everything that will benefit our students! TexQuest, databases, sharing free resources and how to access them. I post a lot of info on ClassDojo, send notes home & teach Ss how to access these resources. Not where I want to be, but getting closer. #futurereadylibs#txlchat
A3: I share resources with my Ts via email when I come across things that they may be able to use. I also make @SmorePages newsletters to send to my staff about resources we are using in the library. #txlchat
Great idea! Many districts have implementd a digital badge program. Include library resources in the mix so Ts and Ss can earn badges by using databases. #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
A3. We are working on just finding out what we have available - a comprehensive list of state/fed provided resources, as well as free commercial programs or trials. A simple list of tools would be awesome - then develop easy access w/ multiple formats.#FutureReadyLibs#txlchat
Laura Zarsky from San Antonio. A1 need to think outside the box... Hotspots on buses- Rolling Readers digital books. Hotspot checkouts partnering with providers. #txlchat
Interestingly, QR codes have never really taken hold on our HS campus. I’ve had students look at codes I’ve put on books linking to book trailers and they say “What is this?” #txlchat
A3: I also have to add that collaborating and bringing classes in to the library is another great way to share resources with Ts and Ss #flexschedule#txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
A3: Promote, promote, promote! Social media, notes home in Eng & Span, flyers, posters, newsletters, ClassDojo, school and district website. Get the word out in any way possible. #futurereadylibs#txlchat
A3: we must meet them where they are and provide multiple access points through social media sites, webpage, digital news letter, blogs, podcasts or as simple as writing it on the library windows! #txlchat
A4: WE MUST support all of our district's plans - strategic, improvement, technology, etc. The time for us operating in our little LibraryLand silos is OVER. Nobody integrates tech. like we do - use the library as a laboratory to try ideas! Libratory?
#txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
A4 Educate yourself on what the plan is! Show interest and get involved. Many districts have a Technology Action Team that is made up of Ts, Ss, Community Members. Show up to the meetings and speak out! #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
A4: Talk with your Ed Tech school rep and find out what tools they are training teachers on and incorporate into a library lesson to model for them. #txlchat
Collaborate with other areas to find logical partnerships. Especially critical if new courses or content are being introduced. Is there a partnership there/relationship to cultivate #nosilos#txlchat

A5 Look at ala best sites for teaching and learning then use them with kids in the library so the teachers want to learn more. Offer tech tidbits to teachers in baby simple steps BC they don't have much time for learning curves. Never stop learning tech! #txlchat
A5 District recently went 1:1 for HS and #Chromebook carts for MS. I showed interest, asked questions, and offered to help. That turned into librarians training all Ts and Ss on not only the device, but #DigCit too! #txlchat#futurereadylibs
We are at the beginning but we are starting off running. Started purchasing digital videos, ebooks, & eaudiobooks and are HEAVILY promoting. About to start a Kindle checkout program and putting the finishing touches on makerspace carts. WE ALSO GOT A GREEN SCREEN. 🎉🎊🎈#txlchat
A4 - We are trying to work with tech dept to combine resources where possible to save $$ (multiple campus licenses vs. district combined) Also working on making the most w/ what we have before begging for newest & most expensive without a plan

I’m wanting to take a page from @_MichelleCooper ‘s playbook and implement Lunch & Learn with parents next year, especially as we add more devices on our campus. #TxLChat

A5: I helped chair our Digital Citizenship week at our school this year. Planned “cyber bullying” lessons for each grade level, taught “fake news” extension lessons in the library, and facilitated daily announcements. #digcit#txlchat
A5: Yesterday I helped a teacher understand a memo that came from her principal about a student portal the tech services department was launching, without any explanation. We found it, & she was happy to see LIBRARY at the top of the portal! #neversayno#txlchat#FutureReadyLibs

Q5: converting office into a production studio that gives as access to 3d printing, green screen, podcasting has been great! Ss owning their own learning. They book time in the studio through LibCal #txlchat
A5: After being moved to curriculum this year I am proud to say that I am currently partnering with #techCITs to embed direct content links and tools into our K-12 Curriculum guides #longtimecoming#txlchat#futurereadylibs
A5 I plan to help present sessions to our incoming 9th graders last week, but trying to figure out what I really want to focus on to help prep them for HS. Suggestions? #txlchat
A5. I've worked with 3-5 grades on using Google Doc Explore feature to do research projects (some teachers were hesitant at first, but excited when they had help with equip, student support & tech advice) - now doing 2nd too! #COLLABORATION#txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
No it isn’t, and Ss need to hear it over and over! One S said during my lesson, “didn’t we already talk about this?” But she was remembering the time I taught reliable sources for research earlier in the year. 😉 #txlchat
A5: Every library lesson, rotating through ELAR, SS, and SC classes, incorporates tech, LMS, O365, databases, Discovery Education, digital citizenship, etc. Our JH students need lots of practice using the basics of MSOffice... #txlchat
YES! I collaborate w/ Ts at beginning of year with older grades on using all @GoogleForEdu apps, just don't call it Chromebook Academy with the older kids :) #txlchat#futurereadylibs
A5: Provide training to Ts, model usage to Ss, model being a lifelong learner, and implement new resources as I learn them. Ts so busy-not always easy to show them new things; be a support. I never thought of myself as tech savvy but I’m a techie now! 😊 #futurereadylibs#txlchat
A5 I have been working on expanding types of devices and tools to facilitate creation with technology-green screen, stop motion, video game creation, 3D printer, bots, etc. I look at the curriculum to see how it can be integrated and help teachers find ways to integrate. #txlchat
I think I might make a case to teach more computer skills next year during lesson time, not just tools and library/research skills. #futurereadylibs#txlchat
A5 Using Tools that students can translate into a skill set rather than just knowing another tech tool. I remix a variety of tools for instruction & offer choice for students that showcase their creative efforts and learning. #txlchat
