Q1: How can we design Student-Centered activities that leverage technology and diverse learning resources to enable personalized learning? #formativechat
A1: Project-based learning such as choice boards, hyperdocs, breakouts, etc. both leverage technology and diversifies learning resources to help personalize learning. #formativechat
1. We as educators cannot under estimated the power of involving students in the “design phases” of an activity... this naturally promotes intrinsic interest and motivation for learning.... call it planning agency....#formativechat
Hello #formativechat, Excited to join tonight from Pittsburgh, PA--tech implementation coach w/ @EVERFIK12 👋 Don't forget about the holiday classic--Hippopotamus for Christmas!
A1 Think about who are students are, by knowing them and their specific needs, we can come up with the right tools, asking for feedback as we work through too #formativechat
A1: Learning playlists can be a great way to leverage tech, differentiate materials, and help support individual paces of learning.
https://t.co/FGcPve9m8K#formativechat
#formativechat A1: quality, research based PD, SAMR model of instructional strategies, combined with a well defined technology direction from administration
A1 If we fully understand the FUNCTIONS an assignment serves, we can be more flexible about the FORM it takes—thus making room for more modalities, technologies, genres, materials, and audiences. #formativechat 1/3
A1 If the function of writing an essay is to demonstrate content knowledge and make logical arguments, could making a podcast serve those same functions? Could students show what they know about cells by making a board game instead of filling out a chart? #formativechat 2/3
A1 Even better: host curriculum hackathons where STUDENTS articulate the functions of their assignments and design alternatives that serve the same functions. #formativechat 3/3
A1: There are so many awesome tools to be able to reach Ss at all different learning levels. One of my favorite tools I've learned about so far is google forms and nearpod. They reach different learning styles in unique ways!
#formativechat
All is good. Making the final push in grad school work, starting a new trimester at school, and enjoying my new kindle. Any good reads you would suggest? #formativechat
A1: By remembering the “why” we are having kids do something. Making it digital doesn’t automatically make it high yield or critical. Technology doesn’t replace pedagogy. #FormativeChat
A: There are so many different tech tools to design student - centered activities with! Right now I'm a personal fan of using QR codes in the classroom #formativechat
Q1: How can we design Student-Centered activities that leverage technology and diverse learning resources to enable personalized learning? #formativechat
A1: It definitely depends on your students! You should be considerate of their funds of knowledge and know that everyone is different and unique. Knowing this will help you determine what will work best with your class! #formativechat
A1: That is the beauty of #edtech. You are able to tailor your instruction to each stduent by providing resources and freeing up your time to conference w/them. #formativechat
A1~
~ know where your Ss interests lie which supports set the stage to engage the diverse group of learners by matching the Learning needs/skills to be taught w/the best tools (digital, text, traditional, combo)to maximize the teaching&learning output
#formativechat
A1: I envision this starting as creating a culture that values educator feedback + provides opportunities for Ts to explore new #edtech at conferences, other schools, and through organic research. Discover what works for your kiddos, not a blanketed resource. #formativechat

Kristen here from PA. I teach 6th grade physical science and clearly don’t teach how to clean my room before you leave my room. 😬 I love the 12 days of Xmas, but only the 5 golden rings part. 😂 I also love https://t.co/nhVb2XZvHQ and https://t.co/SHzJxKSd3U#formativechat
#formativechat...I think with a firm foundation in EdTech we employ that edtech to provide choice. Choice in which students choose the EdTech they use to present or analyze findings. @LaurenPorosoff & @LScumpieru have it right with the idea of "function of edTech"
Q1: How can we design Student-Centered activities that leverage technology and diverse learning resources to enable personalized learning? #formativechat
Choice boards allow kids kind of choose their own adventure style...multiple options for completing a task...for example a kid could complete the task and create a video....or create a skit about the concept....lots of different ways...simplistic version there. #FormativeChat
A1 We can use technology to make learning accessible to all. So many tools that can be used to differentiate instruction and student response methods. #formativechat
1. We as educators cannot under estimated the power of involving students in the “design phases” of an activity... this naturally promotes intrinsic interest and motivation for learning.... call it planning agency....#formativechat
True. Everything you do in your classroom should have a purpose. For how you arrange the desks to how you present a lesson. Everything must have a justifiable purpose behind them. #formativechat
A1: @Rdene915 mentioned the use of multiple tech apps as stations to provide S choice. I am prepping a Formative assessment and plan on setting up stations with multiple tech apps, mini-PBLs, and group instruction to have them choose what/how they practice. #FormativeChat
A1- I always start with WHY. What are we trying to accomplish. From there I look for a variety of tools my littles can use to showcase what they know. #formativechat
A1: Give students a choice on how they want to demonstrate their knowledge. The classroom should be a workshop for students to explore different tools and media to show their understanding of a topic. It can range from no-tech to high tech! #formativechat
#formativechat a1 Some consider filming just an upgraded pen and paper but you can use it to show snd reflect on all the subtle adjectives and emotions that they sign/speak and then it becomes a magic edit tool. #picollage is also good to break down languages.
Q2: How can we integrate strategies to promote Future-Focused skills/deeper learning outcomes (i.e., critical thinking, problem solving, data literacy, STEM, creativity and innovation, collaboration, communication, etc.) in the curriculum and instruction? #formativechat
A1- Creating projects that are relevant and allow for students to choose multiple ways of completing the tasks based on what they connect with or how they envision the completed project. #FormativeChat

A1 Think about who are students are, by knowing them and their specific needs, we can come up with the right tools, asking for feedback as we work through too #formativechat
A2: I think the best thing to promote deeper learning outcomes is to have students think outside the box. Allow students to come up with the strategies and ways to learn the material so that it’s not rote memorization, but it becomes engrained in their thinking. #formativechat
I have done that before with an older student of mine. I created an activity sheet where she could choose one way to do an assignment in class, and then choose one way to do another assignment at home. #formativechat
In reply to
@MrOverstreet101, @ashlyntucker_ed, @LScumpieru
A2 One strategy for enhancing meaningful learning is to make an assessment “pyramid” (like a food pyramid) and decide how much of each type students need for a “balanced diet.” Chapter 7 of Curriculum at Your Core has a protocol for how. #formativechat
A1- By using adaptive programs like @learnfreckle, meeting with students in small group or individually, creating individual playlist for every student.
#formativechat
A2: Embed different opportunities for Ss to advocate for their needs throughout activities. Use the feedback you to improve their classroom experiences and show them that you value their feedback!
#formativechat
Some grades have started using source sets. They have a driving question, and students use resources given to answer the question. Also, I'm late tonight!#formativechat
A1: It's all about PLANNING (having understanding and belief in your tech/resources) and the RELATIONSHIPS with your learners that helps you enact and adapt your plans. #formativechat
Q1: How can we design Student-Centered activities that leverage technology and diverse learning resources to enable personalized learning? #formativechat
Will do, was also asked to demo @goformative at our next department meeting and how I've used it for personal feedback and empowering student voice. Busy two weeks coming up. #formativechat
A1 If we fully understand the FUNCTIONS an assignment serves, we can be more flexible about the FORM it takes—thus making room for more modalities, technologies, genres, materials, and audiences. #formativechat 1/3
Today in my TOI class with @SFecich, @EdTechNeighbor and @MrRyneAnthony told us abour how they use digital breakouts in their classrooms. They seem like a fantastic way to keep the Ss engaged and change up the learning pace.#formativechat
A2: I think that a maker-space would be a great way to embrace STEM activities and allowing Ss to think critically is extremely important! Having students work together with their peers is beneficial for them to learn from eachother! #formativechat

Q2: How can we integrate strategies to promote Future-Focused skills/deeper learning outcomes (i.e., critical thinking, problem solving, data literacy, STEM, creativity and innovation, collaboration, communication, etc.) in the curriculum and instruction? #formativechat
A2: Curriculum must reflect natural critical learning environments where Ss produce products that aren’t disposable at end of course but live on afterward. Take assessment out of the inauthentic classroom and place it into Ss lives. #formativechat
I went to a conference where one educator had a choice BINGO card. Students got links to the BINGO card that had different activities on it, and they had to complete certain activities to make BINGO. I thought that was so fun! #formativechat
#formativechat A2. A very detailed planning and a clear vision of the learning outcome to begin with ....and then the execution which is looking at @studentchoice
So that the required different strategies and autonomy gets guaranteed
A2: IMO that is where #PBL comes in. When you have a fuzzy problem with no set solution students have to make use of those skills they will need moving forward (College and Career skills) #formativechat
A2: I love this quote. Make sure you have a clear set of objectives, some activities that incorporate and reinforce those objectives, but also some that give ss a chance to figure out how they can learn it themselves! #formativechat
A2- Focus on the #SEL skills! The more we work on Ss interpersonal skills, empowerment and intrapersonal skills the better equipped they will be for whatever the future throws at them.
A2: As part of a large, urban district, I know that integrating anything in the curriculum requires COLLABORATION from all stakeholders. Getting it to work requires a lot of ongoing guidance and support.
A2 PBL/CBL empowers students to solve problems that aren't only real world, but, if solved, would make their school and/or community a better place. #formativechat
A2: Frequent feedback and monitoring is critical for fostering future-focused skills. Teachers need to probe their Ss with questions that pushes them to be flexible in their thinking. As much as we want our students to be engaged, we have to immerse ourselves too. #formativechat
A2~by making sure that the teaching & learning happening in our schools has the Ss doing the heavy lifting ...
~providing learning experiences that are relevant, purposeful & incorporate learning tools that meet the needs of the Ss
#formativechat
#formativechat A2: Student agency, digital portfolios as a way to assess student learning, something that they can take with them or they leave for the next class as exemplars. I like these pyramid/BINGO style choices.
1. Start by asking students! 2. Ask teachers next. 3. Encourage failure through exemplar activities by classroom, grade level, and 4. Celebrate them all! #formativechat
Perhaps the true test of curriculum’s efficacy is if Ss continue to pursue learning after all the assessments have been completed. Intrinsically motivated to act as lifelong learners. #formativechat
Sharing this, wrote it last year, was working on #SEL and collaboration, more opportunities for Ss to have choices in learning https://t.co/BrGTLy0cWs#formativechat
#formativechat a2 Little bit like worst preso is: worst answer ever. By creating questions and answers ss get to linguistically leap around in language. It's also #pun fun. Question skills always need practice
#mfl#languages#games4ed
A2. Finding that “Just right” spot for student understand will building confidence and lead to deeper thought and better opportunities for critical thinking. #FormativeChat
A2: Exposure + Experience! Ss won't know what's available or what new skill they are really excited or passionate about. Give students a variety of #edtech & experiences connecting directly to why this is important for their life then support different pathways.
Q3: What are you and/or your school/district doing right now to establish Student-Centered...Future-Focused skills as learning standards for students? #formativechat
A2: Educators have to be willing to think outside the box and be creative with their lesson planning. Tech should be used to enhance the learning process #formativechat
Q2: How can we integrate strategies to promote Future-Focused skills/deeper learning outcomes (i.e., critical thinking, problem solving, data literacy, STEM, creativity and innovation, collaboration, communication, etc.) in the curriculum and instruction? #formativechat
A2: Find ways to allow Ss to make choices, get moving & get involved with learning while using tech tools for example a digital breakout can promote problem solving and critical thinking while learning a lesson #formativechat@EdTechNeighbor@MrRyneAnthony
A2: We have to make learning relevant. Big focus for me this year is scaffolding question across multiple cognitive domains for almost every word problem or activity we attempt. All are real world contexts, sometimes Ss create their own ?s so we answer them too! #formativechat
#formativechat I love RAFT and recently saw a way to add more options by having a large list of roles, audiences, and so on and students can mix and match. Hundreds of combinations and more creativity.
Amen. This would show how they have learned enough to go on and learn on their own using skills and ideas outside of the school setting. That’s the greatest goal - lifelong learners. #formativechat
Perhaps the true test of curriculum’s efficacy is if Ss continue to pursue learning after all the assessments have been completed. Intrinsically motivated to act as lifelong learners. #formativechat
#formativechat A2... This is premise of Formative Feedback or the Assessment Loop... helping them focus on learning rather than grades and to fail forward. I think training students to think in these terms and track own progress is most important
I think PBL would be a very good way to do this. In my district we’re promoting PBL and integrating different content areaS, so students work in different skills and at the same time they research, they create products and they solve problems.
Love the part about exposing them to a wide variety...we all have our go to ed tech...but it is important to remember students need that variety and experience with all kinds of tech in an ever changing world. #FormativeChat
A3: The county in which I work and teach is implementing Standards-Based Grading at the elementary levels. It’s about the learning and not a grade. #formativechat
A3- We provide teachers with job embed personalized professional learning. I meet with teachers in a small group or one on one. I can co-teach, model and coach teachers.
#formativechat
I like the "heavy lifting" part. We know the material already, and at the end of the day, it's the students who need to be able to get it. #formativechat
#formativechat A3: we are in the second year of implementing IB programming and all the ATL and ATT it entails, we've also switched our LMS this year to P-learning. i.e. in the early adoption of some of creating some student-centered, future -focused learning standards
A3: @AdVENTURESTEM that is at the core of everything we do wit PBL. Right now, for example we are in the idst of our crosscurricular charity fair project (https://t.co/UYP7eVrmaK) which involves all contents and starts with building empathy. #advancingogsd#formativechat
A3- We've had cohorts of Ts focused on personalized learning; a focus on transformational learning- specifically changing traditional classrooms into places where whole S needs are front and center #FormativeChat
Q3: What are you and/or your school/district doing right now to establish Student-Centered...Future-Focused skills as learning standards for students? #formativechat
A3: I am student teaching in a first grade classroom and they are focusing on teaching Ss to take control of their learning! Even at a young age I see them growing so much! When you hold them up to a high expectation, they will go far! #formativechat
Graham @GrahamSchools has developed board policies & exemplar activities around Future Ready experiences, & a personalized professional learning plan for adults to model and align our teaching & learning over time. #formativechat
Q3: What are you and/or your school/district doing right now to establish Student-Centered...Future-Focused skills as learning standards for students? #formativechat
A2 We have to provide more problem based activities for students. Real world problems that require multiple students to join forces to come up with solutions. Employers want team players who are not afraid to ask for help. #formativechat
A3 We have finalized a future ready learner profile for students. It has tech in it, but doesn't revolve around tech. I feel like teachers are excited about it! #formativechat
A2: As teachers we need to be reflective and willing to change. Recognizing when things need a tweak vs an overhaul is an important teacher skill. Tradition is a powerful force in our teaching. But not all traditional practices are capable of supporting this work #formativechat
We love the idea of allowing students to have an impact on their community thru their learning. What a great way to engage learners and show them that they can have an impact. #formativechat
A2 PBL/CBL empowers students to solve problems that aren't only real world, but, if solved, would make their school and/or community a better place. #formativechat
A3 One thing I’m doing to help establish future-focused learning is writing a new book and giving workshops about how academic classes can become contexts for students to discover and develop their values. #formativechat
A3: Our school's professional development plan includes student voice and choice. We have been testing out strategies in our Makerspace. Students are more keen to engage in activities that show their creativity and eager to share their work with the class. #formativechat
A3: #STEAM classes at each grade level, passion projects, and a tt who led contract - led learning seminars after school! So much awesomeness... #formativechat
Graham high school @ghs students can take certifications in Lean Six Sigma, CompTia, GIS, SeveSafe, and Leadership Excellence + for credit #formativechat
A2: Design lesson around a big question/problem that Ss must answer. One teacher was teaching on determining the age of something based on layers of the earth. Big Relevant Q: How do we find Beth's retainer buried under layers of trash in the school dumpster? #formativechat
A3: Communication is key. Starting to ask more questions and listen more. Less instructing and more facilitating. Student driven and data informed is the approach to instruction and activities in our room. #FormativeChat
We definitely have to take some risks! I found this when writing a keynote, made me think how much better it is to create with the box :) #formativechat
A3. Leadership and teacher leaders have fully embraced the notion of ... “if it is good for kids we will give it a try”.... and failing forward in a safe / judgment free environment. This notion has lead to @MontourSD TS motivation and student growth #FormativeChat
In reply to
@GLSSuperFalcon, @JustinAglio, @GrahamSchools, @MontourSD
A3: I am working with teachers to help them DEVELOP and EXPLORE skills needed to prepare our students. We try to focus on the skill and not the tools because those tools won't be RELEVANT in the future. CRITICAL THINKING and COLLABORATION will always be relevant. #formativechat
Q3: What are you and/or your school/district doing right now to establish Student-Centered...Future-Focused skills as learning standards for students? #formativechat
A3 One thing I’m doing to help establish future-focused learning is writing a new book and giving workshops about how academic classes can become contexts for students to discover and develop their values. #formativechat

Ah good ol tradition....sometimes the death of innovation in education...just because this is the way we have always have done it doesn't mean we still have to...#formativechat
GCC is so incredible when it comes to preparing preserve Ts. I think one of the easons they thrive in this is due to how early they introduce us into the classroom. We are in classrooms freshmen year which is such an amazing opportunity. Profs are AMAZING as well! #formativechat
A3: @GroveCtyCollege professors are always working to give authentic experiences in the classroom, even as a freshman I've been in the classroom multiple times and have been paired with a virtual co-op which has given me such great advice and experience #formativechat@nankr1120
A3- We also have a "profile of a graduate" that shows all the skills and dispositions we intended for Ss graduating to posses. The idea is that Kinder up looks at how what we do impacts the final profile. #formativechat
A3: Excited to be taking part in some unit design related to the 6 critical competencies at the core of New Pedagogies for Deeper Learning. My grade 4s are excited to go on a journey and bring our passion for reading to life. @NewPedagogies#formativechat
A3:GCC is so incredible when it comes to preparing preserve Ts. I think one of the reasons they thrive in this is due to how early they introduce us into the classrm. We are in classrms freshmen year which is such an amazing opportunity. Profs are AMAZING as well! #formativechat
#formativechat A3 follow standard practices and also encourage and enable teachers to understand and apply the concept of differentiation, also constant teacher PD is carried out to take the teachers through #pbl
#formativechat a3 Single point rubrics and student judges x5 for each presentariin. Allows ss to take top 3 marks and average. Plus they are more in control of presenting and assessing.
#games4ed#reflections
The most S engagement and involved projects I do in class are the ones where students are working on community/school problems and finding solutions. Ss this year are redesigning a portion of the library...multiple presentations and officially got it approved! #FormativeChat
A3 We are having an open house tomorrow to showcase our new CTE approved STEM programs in Computer Science and Engineering. Joining us will be art, music world languages etc because it is about STEAM not just STEM. #formativechat
A3~ with my fabulous littles, we practice, practice, practice working in cooperative groups, pair/share activities, etc & we continually work on using language that conveys our individual & collective needs in direct, concise ways in many languages ❤️😊#formativechat
A1) Students need to be able to apply their passions to both the learning and product in order to see relevance. Give them a wide and varied selection of tools to use in the process, and watch them go! #formativechat
Good to see so many first time Twitter chat people here tonight... Even if you went to that junior college down the road from The University of Illinois. Go Illini! Haha #formativechat
Q3: What are you and/or your school/district doing right now to establish Student-Centered...Future-Focused skills as learning standards for students? #formativechat
Where is this Grove City College? I keep seeing pre-service teachers popping up on all sorts of Twitter chats. Seems like a great program! #formativechat
A1) Providing technology that provides multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression, students can freely reflect and show mastery of learning in their own way that's comfortable to them! The best way to use tech tools are tools that address UDL! #formativechat
A2: We've got to provide learning opportunities that are multi-faceted & skilled. By presenting them with complex & nonlinear challenges, we'll produce kiddos who are able to critically think & creatively problem solve in the future in whatever field they choose! #formativechat
Providing engaging opportunities for your students in order to make their learning meaningful! The best way this is done is through technology that is flexible! I love using screen-cast-o-matic so that students have multiple ways of presenting their knowledge. #formativechat
Gives the pivot point around which students assess at point, above or below.
E.g Student uses 3 different examples to illustrate their point. If examples are great they could add bonus mark. Go from 3 to 4.
#formativechat#mfl#reading
Peer feedback not only allows the teacher to assess the first student's knowledge, but allows the teacher to assess their peer's knowledge in relation to the standard! Learning through assessing one-another is a great way to "kill two birds with one stone"! #formativechat
Western PA. It is an incredible place and the professors are so devoted to pouring the knowledge they have gained over their many years into us! I am blessed to be here!#formativechat
A3 my school is constantly implementing opportunities for students to use MakerSpace and Innovative Ways of Thinking to create a student-centered-future-focused learning environment. Giving students time to "play" with technology and to problem solve is a must! #formativechat
