Meet and chat with colleagues about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) on Twitter! The best hour of professional learning you'll get in 30 minutes. Held the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 9-9:30PM ET.
Good evening and welcome back to #udlchat We may have been on hiatus for a few weeks, but we know that #udl awesomeness never takes a break, so we're going to ask you to share your UDL celebrations with us tonight!
I'm Joni from BCSC and CAST, an my favorite summertime treat is beach time with my boys and @CAST_UDL Symposium when I get to geek out with my favorite #udlfam#udlchat
A1: I’m proud of incorporating more #DesignThinking and #CaseStudy exploration into my work supporting educators in implementing UDL this year. #UDLchat
A1: Finishing up a UDL pilot with an awesome group of Ts. They liked it so much that the Year 1 Ts are going to take on mentoring a new group of Ts for year 2! #udlky#udlchat
A1: collaboration with T’s on identifying barriers to learning and UDL supports by comparing lesson plans. working as Adjunct in #highered and meeting amazing people here that are spreading the good UDL vibes! #UDLchat
A1: proud of 2 #udl experimentations-1st is our summer reading plan that was built wth input from Ts, Ss, & Parents! It has choice in titles & Reading response types! 2nd is our new personalized Pd plan for staff! #udlchat
A2: My biggest challenge has been to keep developing innovative approaches to teacher learning that are responsive to teachers’ variability. The #UDLfam at the #UDLIRN summit had me so inspired to tackle these challenges during the mid-year slump. #UDLchat
A1: Most proud of our teachers who continue to their commitment to design instruction, create resources, and prepare a classroom environment aligned to the UDL Framework #udlchat
A2. We have been coming back to #UDL with staff for many years. I think everyone gets the "why" no is more natural now... not "another thing" but what we do. #udlchat
A2: Still working on this. Biggest challenge is moving from small to larger scale. Buy-in from admin. Showing the value. Need to listen more to #udlfam! #UDLchat
A2: Trying to find different ways for teachers to "see" UDL in action. Overcame it by having a great cohort group in my district with creative minds #UDLchat
A2: My biggest challenge right now is trying to prioritize all the great ideas that have been tossed around recently. Can someone work on stretching time or adding more hours to the day? Kthxbye #UDLchat
Our greatest challenge is integrating UDL with UBD (Understanding by Design), SBL (Standards-Based Learning), the Positive Norms for Math from @joboaler and the Standards of Mathematicxal Practice. #UDLchat
A2: Hm...Greatest challenge- I'm in it right now--transferring my UDL Love from the K-12 world to the postsecondary world. I plan on hitting up some of my #UDLFAM at the Symposium! @eyeonaxs, @InnospireEdu- I'll be chatting with you! #udlchat
A:2 Sounds like we need to move them from buy in to believe in when thinking about large number or district implementation. @hillarygfphdatp#udlchat@DegnerJoni
A2. Keeping the momentum moving forward and developing the roll out plan for the district. Thanks to this chat and @CAST_UDL training, we are rollin on!#udlchat
A2 Greatest challenge: not having a personal guru by my side every day. Still working on being more of a UDL educator rather than just the learner in my team. #udlchat
A2: biggest challenge was really digging into alternatives to using worksheets with novels for lower level students. We all had an adventure last semester and we were better for it. #udlchat
A2- Challenge - my primary UDL thought partner accepted a position in a neighboring school district. Thankful for technology and the other #udlrockstars who will help us continue our journey #udlchat
I have to keep telling myself that we have the power to make #udl ubiquitous and command the market when it comes to classroom resources and demanding they be universally designed! #udlchat
A3: I stay engaged with #UDL through #UDLchat, of course! The off season is also a great time to catch up on reading and plan for some amazing future learning opportunities with my colleagues at @CAST_UDL. Oh, and synthesizing previous work by writing proposals for conferences!
A3 - We realized the impact that UDL can make for ALL Learners so we read more on UDL and envision ways to apply it daily or at least weekly. #UDLchat#ELLchat
A2: Biggest challenge was making time to steal great ideas and talk through bumps and successes. Fixing it this year by crashing some awesome teachers' classrooms. Looking at you @culpzilla#udlchat
A3: Going to the UDL Symposium is definitely going to keep me in the middle of the UDL world. I also like to do some extra UDL reading in the summer. #udlchat
A3: 1. Stay up late enough to participate in #udlchat. 2. Read all the articles Ive sent to my @Pocket over the year. 3. Attend/share at @CAST_UDL symposium! #udlchat
A3: Reading Dive Into UDL, UDL In The Cloud and creating a Canvas Onboarding UDL module for new hires in the district. Which new T's are working their way through right now. #UDLchat
#pln- Very interested in thoughts re: #growthmindset research results... How does research validity affect how we teach? Could something that hasn’t been proved highly effective by research still have high value in another way? Please share thoughts! #fdlrs#udlchat#masterychat
Based on these new meta-analyses:
1. Growth mindset has predictive value for achievement, but only very little.
2. Growth mindset interventions increase achievement, but only by a little.
It's not meaningless, just small. We need much fewer hypes and much more rigorous research
Possibly 5 years... we have been coming back to it regularly. Using @Seesaw across the school has also helped. Staff see value in students presenting in different ways. #udlchat
A3: I tried some new # follows this summer to expand my reading horizons and I am not sorry that’s where most of my Twitter time has gone. #udlchat#TryNewThings
Joining in late everyone, but sending #UDL love. I love reading and have read all sorts of "non-official UDL" books this summer. I like to stay fresh by finding parallels, connections, and applications to what I do in them too. #udlchat
A3: staying engaged by playing around with my own UDL analogy, inspired by @KatieNovakUDL@tweetsomemoore. Some willing participants exploring different ways you can separate an egg & beat them to make a meringue. Video coming soon #UDLchat@janice_atkin
A3. Not to brag, but I'm a lucky girl. Just got home from 2 days of #udl awesomeness with instructional leaders at @RinggoldSD launching #udl, next week is #bcscudl summer institute, and after that I'm keynoting at the @CAST_UDL Symposium. My #udl cup runneth over! #udlchat
A2: One of my challenges is working with early childood systems to view children's behavior differenty- UDL framework is helping teachers to see what they can change in their environments #udlchat

A4: Onward by @artofcoaching1 and The Innovator's Mindset by @gcouros , along with a couple on inclusion and behavior too! Really interested in learning more about teacher mindset and resilience this year! #udlchat
A4.2: I’ll definitely be reading @chrisemdin ’s “For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood... and the Rest of Y'all Too: Reality Pedagogy and Urban Education (Race, Education, and Democracy)” #UDLchat#SummerReadinghttps://t.co/ho7dYsIU2E

Super late to #udlchat but I want to share Troublemakers by @CarlaShalaby with my #udlfam this book is incredible and is UDL to the max. And I’m obsessed with it.
So many great reflections, resources, and support, #UDLrockstars. Another amazing #UDLchat. Thank you @DegnerJoni for guiding us expertly on our #UDL journeys. Join @Ronbrogers Aug 1st for our next live chat, and remember the hashtag is open 24/7/365. Keep sharing, friends! 🤘
Not yet-that’s up next! That’s going to be the staff book club book for this year but I plan to read the 1st few chapters ASAP. the workbook activities look great! #udlchat
I definitely added Ego to my “to read” list after reading the Obstacle. I love the way he uses historical anecdotes. Thinking abt using parts of Obstacle w/ Ss this year! #udlchat
A3: @DawnMarieJara is my lifeline to #UDLChat and I trust her. She just earned her doctoral degree in the field! Twitter chats. Bar chats. Whichever comes first.
