We're chatting about using edtech for social good! How can companies and teachers work together to envision a better world?! Chat with Empatico, Jen Williams and more educators!
Hi everyone! I’m Stephanie, a literacy teacher educator from upstate NY: horseracing, mountain peaks, cold winters and great local ice cream! I know, that was more than 6! #edtech4good
Hi Eddie! Thrilled you are here! Let us know if you have any questions as we go along. Watch @EmpaticoOrg for the questions over the next 30 min! #edtech4good

Hi aprajita Ralli from India ..it's an early 5:30 here .a hot summer already.i teach individuals and Societies to the secondary school . really loved the topic picked today #edtech4good
A1: As a teacher educator, I use tech to collaborate around research and writing and connect my graduate students with elementary classrooms around the world! #edtech4good
A1 Love building #PLN through Twitter, and Voxer groups to become a globally connected educator and find opps to connect my Ss as well, so much to learn, anytime and anywhere #edtech4good
A1: I love connecting with others through twitter chats and recently the new discussion in the Portals with @participate. It’s so awesome to connect with others to use #edtech4good!
If I was an educator I would start up conversations on message boards possibly or even chat with people and figure out what everyone else’s best resources are!
So, there's this thing called @participate , they have this thing called @participatechat , it uses this thing called Twitter and you put them all together the "Jenie" pops out of the lamp! (@JenWilliamsEdu see what I did there? Jen, Genie, get it? I'm hilarious! #edtech4good
A1 Also have used @edmodo to connect with other Ts in Spanish speaking countries, work on #pbl together and help Ss learn about #SDGs#TeachSDGs#edtech4good
A1) Love connecting with educators outside of my classroom walls to show my Ss there is LIFE living outside of books and YouTube. Making real life connections by knocking down our classroom walls that keep us barricaded from learning from each other #EdTech4Good
A1: I participate in weekly twitter chats & have established a strong #PLN that I collaborate with throughout the week! I even have a #WonderCrew@voxer book chat that we connect throughout the week to learn & grow together! So thankful for twitter! #edtech4good
Q1: I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and stepping out for the first time. I've only ever used pinterest or teacher pages to get ideas from other teachers, but nothing else. I'm ready to start #TheEmpathyChallenge and I'm already learning a lot from @LyndsayLgood! #EdTech4Good
Educator chats and digital groups like the @NatGeoEducation digital community have changed my teaching completely. I love meeting new people to collaborate with! #edtech4good
A1.
- Tech allows me to be creative w/ my teaching & storytelling.
- I love being a part of Ss' learning journey
- It helps create a learning enviornment that breaks down the physical barries
- Ss have more agency
#edtech4good
A1 I use a lot of social media (twitter, facebook) to connect with others. To join large PLC's and teacher/educator groups. I learn so much from these connections #EdTech4Good
Hi Dena! I've been so excited to meet you - I'm Kristin from Empatico. Grew up in Oregon (Salem) and my family is still there. I'm in NYC now. Far from home! #EdTech4Good#OregoniansUnite
A1: I participate in weekly twitter chats & have established a strong #PLN that I collaborate with throughout the week! I even have a #WonderCrew@voxer book chat that we connect throughout the week to learn & grow together! So thankful for twitter! #edtech4good

Hey #edtech4good I'm a STEAM teacher in Singapore. Interested to join this chat.
A1: I use Twitter, but it can be difficult to seek out a PLN that has that nice balance of challenging and supporting ideas
A1: I spend time on Twitter chats and checking on my PLN. My school has a very strong social media presence. I follow many others on Instagram for ideas as well. I go on @Seesaw PD in your PJs as well. #edtech4good
Hi Brett! So glad you're here! Been so excited to meet you. I admire you and your work so much! I'm a fellow Oregonian (in NYC now). Home sweet Oregon home. #EdTech4Good
A2 #edtech4good I think most students in the US could use exposure to people and cultured different from their own, even if its just across town. #Empathy and perspective need to be our focus across all subject areas.
A2: Definitely want them to see more of the world. VR documentaries that show what life is like in other parts of the world is an impactful way to experience other’s realities. Would like to see more of these. #edtech4good
#edtech4good A2. My Ss would do better if they were more aware of what happening in the world , if they also looked to finding their place in the community and then contributing to it effectively
A2 I would like my Ss to have more opportunities to connect with others with different backgrounds/lifestyles/lands. Build understanding, communication, empathy. #edtech4good
Kristen, joining late because I’m on another chat but someone’s answer came up and it intrigued me! Oh, and I teach 6th grade physical science and this is my current status... #edtech4good
A1: I chat on Twitter at least 3 times a week. I’m still new to it and new to the whole connecting outside of my district, but I jumped in and haven’t gotten out! I’m doing a #edcamp for the first one next weekend! #edtech4good
A2. My goal is always for my Ss to realize that we have so much more in common than we think once we break the ice and get to know one another. I love those connections where they go, “Woah, we do that in my family too!!!” ♥️ #EdTech4Good
A2: I love exposing my students to amazing solutions that people in other countries around the world have generated to make the Earth a better place. Solutions U https://t.co/ndE3mslSEb is a great resource to find these amazing stories! #edtech4good
A1: Twitter is a given to lead me to some great content. As the outreach Chair of @SEL4CA I have connected with educators across California with @zoom_us intro meetings whenever possible. Relationships build much easier face to face (or video) #edtech4good
#edtech4good I always think every PERSON (not just student) learns so much from exposure to other cultures. Nothing breaks down racism and prejudices better than meeting and hanging out with new people.
A1: As an international educator living in Asia ("abroad"), I use Twitter to grow meaningful connections. Not only do I find it interesting, but it has only had positive benefits to my professional life. Seeing what others are doing & sharing resources. #edtech4good
A2 my class lacks diversity & I wish we had more exposure to different cultures, religions, races so we can form real opinions based on experiences instead of acquiring them later from society #edtech4good
A2-I want my students to broaden their knowledge about people around the world and find ways to connect and show they care!
#edtech4good@EmpaticoOrg@NNSTOY
A2 I would also like my Ss to see value in the iterative process. One and done will not work. It takes time for my elem Ss to see that we can built upon mistakes. #edtech4good
A2 I would like our Ss to use podcasts and videos more often to connect outside of their home district and to use 20% time and #PBL projects #edtech4good
I' ve been wondering how well these work in the classroom - sounds like you've had good experiences with them. I would love to see it in action. #edtech4good
A1. As a live streamer, i cannot share enough the power of live videos of creating virtual learning spaces. I just finished my FB live show. cannot be more thankful for the learning & global community that has emerged as a result of it.
#edtech4good
A2: My scholars @CompassCs are homeschooled and I'd like to give them as much interaction online with their peers as possible in a meaningful way, to teach valuable collaboration and relationship building skills #edtech4good
A2 my class lacks diversity & I wish we had more exposure to different cultures, religions, races so we can form real opinions based on experiences instead of acquiring them later from society #edtech4good
A2: Many of my Ss have never left Polk county. My mission for #globalcollaboration is rooted in providing them with opportunities to virtually travel around the 🌎 & learn about other people! It’s creating empathy & understanding of the world around them! #edtech4good
A2: I want my students to have more opportunities to learn from others about how to create good in the world. I want them to know that they do not have to wait until they are older for what they can accomplish right now! #EdTech4Good
Hi Brett! So glad you're here! Been so excited to meet you. I admire you and your work so much! I'm a fellow Oregonian (in NYC now). Home sweet Oregon home. #EdTech4Good
A2 With my Ss in SPanish 3-5 doing #pbl I want them to see what life is like in Spanish speaking countries, learn about real world issues, what life is like as a S, we are focusing on #sdgs#edtech4good
A2- I am challenging myself along with my students to be more nationally and globally aware. The community my school serves is rural. Often we see generations stuck in the same spot. I want them to see and know more about all that is outside of the city limits. #edtech4good
A1: Honestly Twitter and the Microsoft education community has been my go to for ideas and collaboration. Though sometimes it feels like people are willing to talk but not necessarily listening. #edtech4good
A3: Use @Flipgrid to give book talks and respond to text. Use @EmpaticoOrg to connect with classrooms virtually and use Twitter to build your own PLN. #edtech4good
A2 Really like having so many choices for connecting our students whether through @edmodo@Flipgrid Mystery Skype or students using @buncee buddies, opens up tremendous learning #edtech4good
A1: I can’t believe I didn’t use Twitter until this year. Being connected to other passionate educators has brought so many new ideas to my fingertips and in turn has sparked so many new opportunities in my own classroom. #edtech4good
A1.
- Tech allows me to be creative w/ my teaching & storytelling.
- I love being a part of Ss' learning journey
- It helps create a learning enviornment that breaks down the physical barries
- Ss have more agency
#edtech4good
A3: Try @Flipgrid Flipgrid pals. I haven't tried it yet but very eager to connect internationally with students and bring new perspectives to my scholars in a very personal way around learning. #edtech4good
A3 Snapshots of classrooms, learning, and thinking via twitter feeds and classroom blogs. #MysterySkype is a powerful tool as well. Collaborative projects would be powerful. #edtech4good
A2: I love that my school has Experience Week (experiential AND service learning) to both well-travelled & far-off places. Love to have more, or even more service learning locally. Seeing the world is so beneficial, especially with an education framework guiding it #edtech4good
A1: I can’t believe I didn’t use Twitter until this year. Being connected to other passionate educators has brought so many new ideas to my fingertips and in turn has sparked so many new opportunities in my own classroom. #edtech4good
We can have joint projects where students are working together to solve a mutual problem. Need to be careful about cultural competency here! #edtech4good
A3: this is a tricky one - I think the kinds of questions/discussions are more important than the tech tool used. Tech can definitely help build empathy.
#edtech4good
A3 #edtech4good#Digitalstorytelling like documentaries, podcasting and @StoryCorps helps students listen to the stories of others and share their own perspectives that might not have been traditionally heard.
A1.

A3 we Skyped w/ a T who lives in Bangladesh. My S’s noticed that her home was just one room. They had never thought people could live that way. We also Skyped with South Africa and saw houses that look more like sheds. This made a huge impact on my S’s #edtech4good
A2-I just recently introduced mindfulness in my K classroom. (I finished a full training in Dec) I love how it has changed my classroom environment. I hope to add more next year and find more tools to help me #edtech4good
A3: We recommend students explore new experiences on their own and write about their field trip then meet in groups to share their world adventures #edtech4good#edtech#ARVRinEDU#VR#virtualreality
Every yr our school focuses on a culture from another part of the world. Community members from that culture, music, dance, food, and art are all infused into the exploration. It is a deep learning moment for our Ss. #edtech4good
A3 look to connect with classrooms through diff communities like Google+, post in @iste use Mystery Skype, we've had great success thru @edmodo and @Flipgrid#edtech4good
In reply to
@EmpaticoOrg, @iste, @edmodo, @Flipgrid
A2) Want my kids to be inspired by the people who create the tech instead of just consume it. Oldest son was lucky enough to have some convos with Msft execs... Made his day! Need more of those convos in edu #edtech4good#dyw#attainmentgap
A3: It can open the door! I reached out to an incredible surface artist and she Skyped with my students. They heard her story of immigration from Russia and how she brought the art of her heritage into Godiva’s windows in NYC! Endless possibilities! #edtech4good
A3: Last week we connected with a class in Alaska for a #globalcollaboration! Ss performed a cultural song & dance! They even taught my Ss how to say certain animal names. My 1st graders were mesmerized!! We’re connecting w/ a class in Chile in 2 weeks! Can’t wait! #edtech4good
A3 I love using #Flipgrid to share ideas across the globe also @EmpaticoOrg hangout chats with other schools and building a strong PLN to share ideas #edtech4good
We are exploring the @UNICEFEducation Sustainable Development Goals, this is a great starting point for design thinking solutions that are innovative and relevant. It warms my ♥️ when I hear kids say gender equality or quality education #Edtech4good
Technology has the power to expose students to global ideas- both with kids their own age and professionals in the field! @NatGeoEducation Explorer Classroom program has exposed my students to diverse perspectives from explorers in the field around the world ! #EdTech4Good
A3: As long as you can connect to the internet, Ss can use You Tube & GHO to connect with experts, classrooms, and ideas outside of their walls. #edtech4good
A3: Connect with classrooms in other parts of the via tool like @Flipgrid. Check out #GridPals! Ts are connecting Ss w/ Ss in other countries to learn from & w/ each other! #edtech4good
Q4: An #empathychallenge for you!
What connections and resources would you like to explore to spark empathy in these last months of the school year? #edtech4good
A3: Tech tools are important, but being able to dig deeper than surface culture to make deeper connections is what really matters with virtual exchange. #edtech4good
Q4: An #empathychallenge for you!
What connections and resources would you like to explore to spark empathy in these last months of the school year? #edtech4good
So true, that is what makes tech awesome in this case, take our Ss and classrooms anywhere in the world, without leaving our space, opens possibilities never had before #edtech4good
A3: Twitter!, Twitter chats, Skype with classes in other countries, Mystery Skype, e-penpals (safe websites to connect you), #GoogleExpeditions, even basic research as a start to learn about other cultures #edtech4good
A4: I’d like my education students to create texts sets around a trending topic to open lines of communication in their classrooms and ensure books are windows, not just mirrors. #edtech4good
A3 A great way is to connect using tools like @Flipgrid or @SkypeClassroom to bring the world to the classroom. Using those tools to build empathy and communication across the globe. #edtech4good
@Flipgrid has been awesome for this since we are dealing with time differences between our countries, so much fun to see the videos pop up during our class #edtech4good
A2: art is EVERYWHERE I want them to see it span countries & cultures and make meaningful connections to their lives - they need to see how art makes the planet better #edtech4good
That's a challenge at our school. Large, diverse, wealthy student population. Even though they are well travelled, tolerant, etc., they still talk about "poor people are like this". I think this kind of project could help bridge that empathy gap. #edtech4good
A3: what I've been doing is using Skype to connect with people around the world regarding diff careers (I teach econ). The conversations often go into life outside of our small rural town. #edtech4good
Q4: An #empathychallenge for you!
What connections and resources would you like to explore to spark empathy in these last months of the school year? #edtech4good
A4: I’m hoping to do another @EmpaticoOrg connection before the end of the year! Our 1st one was awesome & I’m excited to have my Ss connect again for a #globalcollaboration! #edtech4good
A3. This photo from Kamla Nehru Public School, Phagwara, India is my inspiration for using #edtech4good to #TeachSDGs & bring the world into the classroom.
Q4: An #empathychallenge for you!

Wahoo!!! The official #SeanCameo!! Always waiting for it, and then so excited when you pop up!!! Thanks as always for your support, Sean! #edtech4good#HQ
A3: there’s nothing like forming in person connections! We started @GAPP_Exchanges program this year- our students have made so many amazing connections with their new German friends! The global competency skills they have built and friends they made are amazing! #edtech4good
#edtech4good A3 let Ss lead tech tools, keep planning very focused as tech tools are just a means to the end .make the Ss content strong.we just made our Ss reflect on the #SDGs ,which is most applicable to India & how far are they being delivered.@Bunceehttps://t.co/enn8mb76ze
.A1: EdTech helps all learners - teachers, students, and community members. The key are the connections we make. Content connections & connections with other educators. #edtech4good
Hi, Jacqueline! How are you, Pal! Hope you and your students are doing well. Finishing up final edits for #ThePepperEffect Book down here. #edtech4good
A4 I would like students in my district to recognize that we have homeless & hungry children and families in need in our own backyard it's wonderful to help people around the world but we have to be aware of our own communities as well #PBL and 20% time #edtech4good
Q4: An #empathychallenge for you!
