This twitter chat stands for "Wins And Losses Ed Chat" and will be a chat where students reflect on the previous week to celebrate victories and reflect on losses to turn them into victories.

Hello everyone! Scott from mid Michigan. Middle school dean. Chaotic week after a week of snow days then back for testing and then off for ice. It’s been a ride of a couple of weeks! Looking forward to the chat tonight! #waledchat
Hi #waledchat friends! Hi @MrPStrunk !
Happy Thursday!
Aubrey from oh so cold 🇨🇦Consulting, working with districts and universities. Recovering Superintendent😉
Hello #waledchat. Culliope here from NH. I'm a middle school enrichment teacher and writer/director of our spring play, which is in full swing with a cast of 54. And lately, Dungeon Masters to our Heroes' Hall and Slay Queens D&D groups. Busy winter times!!
A1: As a kid, I hated school. It wasn't a safe place for me. I went in to teaching to change the product that was being offered to students, and to support those that are feeling disconnected like I was. #waledchat
A1: I started teaching because I couldn't imagine doing anything else. My Bachelor's is in Kinesiology - I was planning to be a physical therapist. But I chose to be where I am because I love what I do, every single day. #waledchat
A1: I had some incredible teachers who have been very impactful. I also love my content area and want to share my passion for history with my students. #waledchat
A1: I never wanted to do anything else. My favorite play when I was young was school, and I loved going to school. There was never a second choice. #waledchat
A1 Women from my generation had limited choices for careers-teaching, nursing or secretarial-fortunately I chose teaching-& have never looked back-today choice for women has changed-but gender equity needs still more work in AU education particularly in Ed leadership #waledchat
A1: I was a child psychotherapist on leave for a mental break. I subbed and fell in love with teaching. Got my 6th college degree and have not looked back. #waledchat
A1 - I was super fortunate to have had fantastic teachers most of my life who were great role models for me and I wanted to do that same thing for young people. Plus, high school is such an awesome age group to work with! #waledchat
A1: because I tried everything else and nothing fit? Because I realized that I made a very strong connection with some of the toughest students. They are my people #waledchat
A1: Honestly I started teaching because I knew I was good at school...
I have learned that it is my passion because my WHY and much happiness comes from is helping others achieve and learning along the way.
#waledchat
I was studying Child Development in the 90's and began to consider revamping school. The opportunity to help start a full inclusion school. With a Spec Ed credential in hand I had to do it! #waledchat
A1: I went through a series of rough patches throughout middle and high school. I’ll never forget the teacher that invested their time and effort into me. They didn’t know everything that was going on, but I know they knew I needed someone. We still keep in touch. #waledchat
I started teaching because I realized that every job I ever loved involved children in some way. It was the best way to merge my love for kids and science. I still wanna be a medical examiner when I grow up though! #dreamgoals#waledchat
A1 I went into teaching to make a difference! I had many Ts who instilled a love of learning in me and now I’m in a position to impact others! #waledchat
Plan B, which should’ve been Plan A. Did advertising sales, tried on air news. Wanted to be a DJ, talk show host, comedian... now I get to do all of those as a teacher!!! #waledchat
A1: Being the oldest of three, I always wanted to play school and had to be the T. I love working with Ss and helping shape the future. As an admin, I love working with Ts to build them to build Ss! #waledchat
A1: I had a front-row seat to my younger brother struggling through school. Smartest kid I know, and school wasn’t fair to him. I wanted to change that for others like him. #waledchat
So my dh is a teacher. I edited all his masters papers 😂 I developed some very strong opinions on the topic & spent 10 years telling him how to teach better. He told me “go teach if u know so much “ #waledchat
A1~
~deep desire to give back & I just simply love children & this sweet, spicy ☘️ ma/Nana expected her children to make a positive difference in the lives of others ❤️
#waledchat
A1: My track coach invited everyone back to help him as an assistant coach when I graduated. I had no real direction of what I wanted to do in life, so I did it. He told me I would make a good teacher, so I listened. The rest is history. #waledchat
A1: Like I shared w/ @Mr_Lisek the other night, I fell into teaching unintentionally. My college plans fell thru due to cost, so I fell back on Plan...um...H? My parents picked my major at that point b/c teaching was a “real job.” And I’ve never looked back! #waledchat
A1: When I started teaching, I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children. Now, two decades later, I want to empower children to make a difference in the world. #waledchat#passionforkindness#tlap
A1 - #waledchat I have known since I was seven years old that my passion was to be a teacher - I saw the impact that both of my parents had as teachers and students lives and wanted to offer the same
Q1: my mama is a teacher so I NEVER wanted to be one... until I realized in college that everything I loved to do - improv, directing, volunteering, big Bros/big sis was teaching in disguise. And when I found middle schoolers, I was hooked. #waledchat
A1. This is a loaded question. I never wanted to teach. Years of experience with children and my family was horrified. I only wanted to be an arts educator is anything and had my way the first 6 of 17 years as an Integration Specialist. #waledchat
A1: I wanted to be a teacher starting as a very little kid. I’ve had some major hurdles to keep in the profession but I can’t imagine doing anything else. #waledchat
A1. I had teachers that stepped in to provide stability in unstable times growing up. That stuck with me and I wanted to provide that environment for others. Paying it forward. #waledchat
I was inspired by my mom who was always available for me and mybrothers and sisisters. She was an aide in a BD classroom. She always expressed love and compassion for kids and I strive every day to live up to this model.#waledchat
A1: Overall, I got into education because my experiences with teachers and coaches were solid and my dad was this very quiet, humble incredible teacher/BB coach and although I never really thought about it much, I think I just wanted to be like him. #waledchat
A1 My Mom was a Kindergarten teacher. I wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid. My siblings also both have special needs and I wanted to help kids like them. #waledchat
A1: I found school boring as a kid and I didn't like going to school. Kids deserve better, and I wanted to be the one that helped kids develop a love a learning by finding a way to make it fun and engaging. #waledchat
A1: honest - I started teaching because I thought I had to declare a major when I went to orientation at NKU. I chose social studies. But I chose it because I love the subject and I had great teachers that taught me how to love the subject. I can’t image not teaching #waledchat
A1: I started teaching bc of @WorldStudiesVCU's capstone internship. Was in my last semester of my anthro and Spanish degrees & was planning to pursue archaeology after graduation. Then we were placed in local schools to tutor children learning English. and I 💚ed it!
#waledchat
A1: I was always in love with the brain! At first, my dream was to become a pediatric neurologist but then fell in love with the psychology of it all. Education is so much psychology and I’m able to get inside those brains everyday! #waledchat
A1: I first got into teaching because I loved helping other kids learn math. Since then, I have added a passion for making a difference in kids’ lives as a whole. #waledchat
A1. Cont. please understand the only reason I never wanted to teach, and that Never is strongly emphasized was due to having quite a few teacher having left a negative impact rather than a positive. I never wanted to be any one of them. #waledchat
a1- made a career change into teaching in my 40's. I had been tutoring at risk kids as part of a business/school mentor program. I realized I wanted to make a difference so ALL kids could suceed. #waledchat#KidsDeserveIt
So after being a writer and editor, homeschooling mom, and at the age of 39 I went back to college to earn a masters and 5 years later my EdS. On to the PhD soon . #waledchat
A2: My favorite part of teaching is building relationships with the students, hands down. Makes everything worth it when they love coming to school because they have a strong support system in their teachers. #waledchat
My favorite part of teaching is seeing how excited students are when they make progress. I love seeing them realize that they are smart and CAN read! #waledchat
A2: I love when my students are able to find joy in what we are learning. Designing PBAs that create authentic experiences for them is also pretty exciting! #waledchat
A1: I found school boring as a kid and I didn't like going to school. Kids deserve better, and I wanted to be the one that helped kids develop a love a learning by finding a way to make it fun and engaging. #waledchat
Already trending on Twitter. Hard keeping up with ya'll! Loving the passion! Looks like a lot of you had some pretty impactful Ts in your lives! #waledchat
A2: it would be impossible to pick one thing. I love reading and writing but teaching kids to love it is amazing. But of course relationships trump all. Evidence attached 🥰 #waledchat
A2 My favorite part of teaching is seeing others learn! Whether it’s adults or Ss, we have the ability to change lives....EVERY...SINGLE...DAY!#waledchat
A2: My favorite part of teaching (both Ts and Ss) is the relationships.
These are often the difference between a breakthrough and a stalemate.
#waledchat
A1: Honestly, I don't know. I never once thought about doing anything else until a professor told me I wouldn't be an effective T. I tried to switch my major because of that, but my father wasn't having it. 🤣I guess to me school always seemed to be a place of magic! ❤️#waledchat
A1: I was reading Harry Potter, and thought, I wish I had books like this when I was in school. I teach to bring literacy to the students and have added theatre to this the past 7 years. #waledchat
A2 my favorite part of teaching is building relationships and years after students have moved on they come back to touch base. I love that so much #waledchat
Q2 It's all about the relationships I've form in education that is the heart of what I do & the favourite aspect of my work-I've learnt so much from the children, families & colleagues I've worked with over the years & each have contributed to who I am today #waledchat
A1: because sitting me in a cubicle was never a good idea. The shenanigans I pull on a daily basis would not be accepted or appropriate in any other job. 😬 so, teaching it was!!! 😂😂 #waledchat
A2 - Just this week a senior who I wrote a letter of recommendation for came up to me and told me she was accepted! Literally the best part of my job is helping student reach and achieve their dreams, regardless of what it is #waledchat
I started teaching because my most significant role models in my life were my teachers. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others, like my teachers did for me. #waledchat
A1: I first got into teaching because I loved helping other kids learn math. Since then, I have added a passion for making a difference in kids’ lives as a whole. #waledchat
A2. Now that I have been teaching for 17 years I haven’t regretted a single moment. My favorite part? Watching them transform into their best selves and walk with shoulders back out of my room every June knowing they choose to RISE. #waledchat
Hey #waledchat! Melissa from NM...and A1: Wanted to be like Ms. Beetle & Laura Ingalls Wilder...the Little House on the Prairie schoolhouse called me! Just think of how they differentiated! One class, EVERY GRADE!
A2: My favorite thing about teaching is the relationships I get to form and the laughter that is so easily found in each day. I enjoy having the opportunity to impact a student’s world and I take that responsibility very seriously. #waledchat
A2b - The other best part is the relationships I get to build with so many students over days, weeks and even years of knowing them. It's definitely special and also incredibly humbling #waledchat
A2: my favorite part of teaching is seeing ss engaged - coming up with fun lessons, fun twists and turns. I saw this today with our digital breakout in feudalism - it was awesome!! #waledchat
A2: My favorite part about teaching is getting to know my Ss. I want to know every student by name (and not just the Ss who end up in my classroom). I want to learn their story and be a positive part of it as it moves on. #waledchat
A2: I ♥️ when those eyes light up! I kept going over to coach high school BB while a superintendent because I love coaching, but mostly to see those eyes lit up each day!
Nothing beats those eyes!
#waledchat
A2: How can I possibly pick only one favorite part of teaching? I love the joys of accomplishment, the sparkle of success, and the smiles of students and teachers knowing that they matter to me! #waledchat#tlap
A2: Knowing that I have the power to impact and change the future. Every. Single. Day. I see so many Ss who were just like me. I can speak from my past to change the future. #waledchat
A2 - building relationships with Ss, finding their gifts and helping them see them, creating a safe place to fail and grow, shattering their self deprecation and building their empathy. I absolutely ADORE speaking life into them and building a classhome community #waledchat
A2: a tie for witnessing the “lightbulb” moments and also reconnecting with former Ss. I’m always amazed when kids remember one of their middle school teachers. #waledchat
@lisaannlin2014 I love making math so much fun that it changes their negative feelings toward a subject they might hate. When I, as the math coach, walk into a room to teach a lesson, the kids get excited to see what they are about to learn! Best feeling ever! #waledchat
A2: My favorite part of teaching is just hanging out with the kids, hearing their stories, and, most of all, wholeheartedly laughing with them! #waledchat
A1: I wanted to teach since second grade but decided to take a year off in college to become a flight attendant. After 13 years as a flight attendant, I received my degree and started teaching. #waledchat
A2. I think it's watching the curiosity in the Ss eyes, when they begin digging in deeper, to find out the why, what if, and how? And when they find something new they really like. #waledchat
A2~
~love their moments of joy, kindness to peers
~relationship building is so fabulous with these littles ❤️
~they will move mountains b/c you believe in them & they know it!!!
#waledchat
Crystal from TN! 5th grade ELA and SS!
A1: I have always loved creating things. I have always had hope that I can fight back against the system and show how important individuality and creativity are. I want to prepare my kids for the rest of their lives.not a test. #waledchat
A2: I love to laugh. I need to find a way to get my wiggles and my creative energy out. I do this in my lessons. If I can’t, I get crabby. kids are awesome. Their fresh perspective and their ability to let go and have fun is so refreshing to me. They aren’t rigid. #waledchat
A1: I didn't finish my 4 yr degree, I wanted to teach people be better. I worked at a factory with dropouts who couldn't double whole figures. I officiated youth rec sports and found I enjoyed kids. #waledchat
A2: My favorite part of teaching is when the Ss don't need me anymore. It's like teaching kids to ride a bike: There's that moment they think you are still holding them up, until they glance back to see they've been doing it on their own. That's priceless! #waledchat
A2: My favorite part of teaching is making the connections & forming the relationships that I make with my Ss. I love that my Ss come back to see me year after year and they know that, once my student, they are always my student. #waledchat
A2. Favorite part of teaching has always been breaking apart a novel. I remember having Ss read the Giver but then deconstructing end of book, digging into inferences, Ss were crying, shocked, horrified. An independent read glossed over the “stuff” #waledchat
Yes it is, and now you have made me cry. I have to observe this week with day of play and 100th day through pics from my friends. My father in law died yesterday and I am where I need to be with family, but it is hard to not see their smiles. #waledchat
A2: My favorite parts of teaching are the relationships, the connections. I love the a-ha moments and breakthroughs. But the hugs, emails, seeking me for celebrations or help. Especially my connections with my ELLs. #waledchat
Q2: My favorite part of teaching is having my students engaged during our lessons/projects — it informs me that I planned appropriately for them! #waledchat
A3: Biggest reality check for me was how hard it is, every year, to let a group of kids go. I worry about them, if they're being taken care of, being encouraged & supported, etc. Luckily, those strong relationships usually = lots of follow up and life "check-ins!" #waledchat
Behavior has always been the hardest part of teaching since year 1. Discouraging negative behaviors and encouraging positive behaviors while simultaneously continuing instruction is challenging! #waledchat
A3: When you are not given the benefit of the doubt. As educators, we have so much going on, we need grace and patience just like everyone else. #waledchat
A3: As rough as my childhood experience was, there are so many Ss that have more difficult stories that they are living. Trying to support and not get too wrapped up in their stories is very tough. #waledchat
A2: I absolutelylove my time with the kids. I love having the chance to share my passion for learning. I have a passion for helping kids discover their greatness.#waledchat
A3: That sometimes you really can’t change things...as much as your soul Kong’s for it...for the betterment of the children. #vaguebutintentional#waledchat
A2: I really love when kids hug you. It means you have bonded so much that they feel safe with you. I also love learning who they are. They're so cool! And it is so sweet when they accidentally call you "mom." #waledchat
A3 The struggles with mental health that so many students face, and how ill-prepared both families and schools are to handle it. It's not a knock on anyone; it takes all of us looking out for our students (and each other) to achieve the greatest level of success #waledchat
A3: A shock since beginning teaching is how slow edu is to change (or allow change)... Research and assurance are good but not at the expense of what we really need to prepare & guide Ss.
#waledchat
A3: In a way, how much it matters. A student might finally muster the courage to open up about something hard at the exact same moment someone else needs help with an assignment and the phone rings and we’re out of tissues and someone’s internet won’t work. #waledchat
A3: How utterly complex teaching is. I think we undersell this. There is a tremendous amount of complexity in teaching. I love it, but if we aren't careful we can very easily become overwhelmed. #waledchat
A2) my fave part of teaching is creating conditions where kids find their peeps. I have a lot of kids who could go either way and when they land on the pro-school and pro-eachother side and stick there, I'm so happy. I want them all to have a school family. #waledchat
The parents. The lawn mower parents and the ones who have special needs kids who either 1) don’t advocate for them or 2) don’t believe in them or 3) have unrealistic expectations #waledchat
A3: The most sadly shocking reality is that not everyone is doing the job for the right reasons and with the right intentions. Often, the professionals make the day more difficult than the kids. #sorrybutitstrue#waledchat
A3: That sometimes you really can’t change things...as much as your soul longs for it...for the betterment of the children. #vaguebutintentional#waledchat
A3: Working in the inner city for many years, recognizing the inequality that those Ss face in their education really hit home. It made me recognize that I couldn't save every student (but it didn't mean I wasn't going to try). #waledchat
A3: The price of dedication. The difficulty in saying "no" to a greater "yes." The realization that I will often put aside self-care to care for others first. My inability to leave work at work. #waledchat
A3 What continues to shock me is the:
Inequities in education & discourses around this
#Equity and an inclusive education is a right for our children and am passionate as an educators to address in this in my work in schools/research
https://t.co/byhkTp3Kwz#waledchat
A3: Biggest reality check for me was how hard it is, every year, to let a group of kids go. I worry about them, if they're being taken care of, being encouraged & supported, etc. Luckily, those strong relationships usually = lots of follow up and life "check-ins!" #waledchat
A2: I enjoy seeing success and restoring confidence in kids who can't find it. I like creating paths for kids to learn. We share our worlds honestly and build trust. #waledchat
A3 A shocking reality is so many of our Ss do not eat unless they are at school! We need to provide programs such as Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab and Go lunches, and Backpack Blessings to ensure Ss are being fed! #waledchat@NoKidHungryNC@nokidhungry
#waledchat A2 Since technology has improved, finding guest speakers who will engage my students. Love sending out emails and tweets inviting them to join us,
A1 I started teaching to give back. Great teachers helped me to learn English when I first came from Portugal and I wanted to do the same for others. #waledchat
A2: I love being around my kiddos, and being there to share in that "a-ha moment". My favorite thing to hear from a kid is "oh, I get it now!" #waledchat
A3: Teaching was very exciting and fun. As a principal, well, you have to deal with red tape from up above that at times hinders new ideas, innovation and learning. #waledchat
A3: I have been shocked at the enabling. I wouldn't have expected that the kids wouldn't be allowed to struggle. Also, how people are allowed to speak to teachers in person and on social media. It's hard to feel the blame for trying to help. #waledchat
A3: The price of dedication. The difficulty in saying "no" to a greater "yes." The realization that I will often put aside self-care to care for others first. My inability to leave work at work. #waledchat
A3: When I first started teaching, I couldn’t believe how HARD it was—planning lessons, grading papers, dealing with student issues, coaching. It was so busy! #waledchat
Experiencing something similar to that currently. Definitely has weighed on my patience. Kept trying to encourage them, but they keep checking out. :( #waledchat
A3: I am shocked and saddened by the sheer numbers of kids who have heartbreaking home lives. Has it always been this way and as Ss we were just clueless to our peers lives?#waledchat
A3: The decline in the family structure, the transient population, the decline of communication skills, and the way our next generation is being raised. We live in a throw away society including the children. #waledchat
A3. Having to let go. All year you build a family bond, and faster than you blink...all the effort, the love, support, and sleepless nights of worry..they are gone and it’s hard because you genuinely love each of them. Which is why I love the visits and emails! ☺️#waledchat
A3 - expectations that every staff member learns the same way. I need my PD scaffolded sometimes. I need some differentiation. I am capable and long to comply and do things with excellence, but it may take me a bit to understand. Makes me a better teacher though! #waledchat
A3: Adjusting to the experiences Ss come to us with. I didn’t have top notch everything growing up, but it is shocking what Ss come to us with and how we must adjust to meet their needs and help them feel important! #waledchat
A3: The shocking reality for me has been how many obstacles there are in our field which hinder us from doing what is best for Ss. Specifically, the hoops we have to jump through to get extra support for students who need it.#waledchat
A3: Moving from teaching English to teaching drama, two things shocked me (and still continue to)—1. Not everyone wants to be in drama class. (It’s so fun!) 2. (Biggest shock)— Students that don’t want to be in my class are continually put into it. #waledchat
A3: It is not easy! Not every kid loves math and school is not every kids main priority. Some kids have really complicated lives with a lot going on. I am amazed what some Ss have to go through. #waledchat
A3: The lives some of my Ss have to live. Those who have let my Ss down. How they can do it anyway. How they can rise to the occasion. How they and their families can look out for others who need it... #waledchat
A3: I had no clue how much teaching would effect me. No, it absolutely consumed me that 1st yr. The Ss' stories, their traumas, triumphs. Also, the paperwork, meetings--have mercy. #waledchat
A3: I've been shocked at the blind traditions the teaching profession holds tight to.
If we followed the evidence, everyone could read. https://t.co/wexL5rkAkv#waledchat
A2 My favorite part of teaching is seeing the looks on my ELLs faces when they are able to communicate and begin to be successful in their classes. The look of accomplishment is beyond description. #waledchat
A3: I grew up in a little bubble, with no real knowledge of how others live. Once I started teaching, my eyes were opened to reality. I discovered the good, bad and the ugly of the world. I discovered my calling to teach was so more about supporting the whole child #waledchat
So often we tend to forget that teachers are students too! Us "adult learners" need to model and practice with each other what we try to do with our students everyday! #waledchat
A4: Be what those kids need the minute they step into your building. You may not be able to control what happens to them at home, but you sure can influence what happens in their life at school. #waledchat
A4: Speaking with other educators, I need to remember to also give others the benefit of the doubt. My principal, @ERobbPrincipal, has also continued to remind and inspire me to keep a positive mindset. #waledchat
I have found a better balance of positive encouragement for students while consistently implementing and practicing routines and expectations. Students also exchange their hard earned panther cash each Friday! They need that predictability to learn and feel safe. #waledchat
A4: Focus on the kids in front of me so that I can have the same impact on them. Keep in touch with the students I can, and have faith that what I've taught them will sustain them through their next adventure in life. #waledchat
A3. Shocking reality for me was and is working with adults that openly admitting that they do not like kids. It still cuts me anytime I hear it. #waledchat
A3: I've been shocked by teacher apathy. Not wanting to spend time with the kids. General annoyance with kids... constantly! Not bothering to help kids make better choices. Ss behavior doesn't shock me nearly as much as adult behavior. #waledchat
a3: the flow of info is so fast, and the workload is getting heavier by the year. I never expected a cushy job. I work hard because kids desrve my best every day. Makes it hard to have home/work life balance though. #waledchat
A3: In the beginning, the biggest shock was that I couldn't save them all. (Yes, I know the starfish story!) 😊 Now that I've gained experience, I'm really disappointed that we still put so much emphasis on the bottom line standardized test score. One 4 hour exam. One. #waledchat
A3: how the system is so corrupt. This book is so eye opening. Bided in ways, I presume, but still eye opening. Probably exempting my own kids out of state testing because of it. #waledchat
A4: I got some great advice about how that 1st yr really is the toughest--and it was. As far as Ss & their traumas: I pray, I advocate, & I try to be as active/supportive/involved with them as possible. #waledchat
A4 Focusing on the little things w/ Ss that make a big difference, especially with those Ss that need a constant in their lives. It could be a fist bump, same time, same place, everyday. Just an "I got your back" for the kids is huge #waledchat
A4: I deal with my colleagues who are struggling by remembering that they too are in need of compassion, help, coaching and care. I may not be able to fix it, but I can at least be patient and shift my perspective to a more positive approach. #waledchat
That always confuses me. If you don't like kids, please pick another profession, there are plenty of potential Ts out there who like kids and are ready to invest! #waledchat
A4: I conquered this by being my best and doing my damnedest to make sure each and every student felt like they were loved and supported and were on equal footing when they were within the confines of the school building. #waledchat
A4 Addressing inequalities in education through my work:
🌟It Begins With Believing
⬇
✔Build relationships
✔Provide Context/Relevance
✔High expectations
✔Debrief/Feedback
✔Use Enabling Language
✔Model/Scaffold
✔Guide/Step Aside
⬇
🌟Access for all
#waledchat
A4: I always try to put a positive spin on negative conversations. I have thought about searching out the negativity to see if I can come in and team teach an idea/concept. #waledchat
A4: Be what those kids need the minute they step into your building. You may not be able to control what happens to them at home, but you sure can influence what happens in their life at school. #waledchat
A4: Be present in conversations. Listen to their stories. Problem solve with them. Let them know that you are always available. Pray for breakthrough. #waledchat
A3 There are going to be students no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to help them. I never give up but ... I can’t always get through ☹️#waledchat
A4: I find the positives, point them out, celebrate them. I go out and learn new things, but new books. I just received @All4sand5s and can’t wait to read! #waledchat
A4: By making a greater attempt to prioritize my work/home worlds. By giving myself and others grace for imperfection. By making a deliberate effort to be a little kinder to everyone I meet, no matter the circumstance. #waledchat
A3: I have been surprised by the impediments that have been placed in the way of doing right by kids. It seems that often political decisions take precedence over logical and thoughtful decisions that make the most sense to benefit kids as they work to learn.#waledchat
A3 The educators who hate teaching but yet continue in the profession making themselves, the students, and their colleagues all suffer their negativity. #waledchat
A4: I confront teacher apathy by showing an example of concerted patience towards kids and showing that I enjoy their time. If a kid is a firestarter, I'm all the more likely to try and love them. #waledchat
A3: Having been an employee of a manufacturing company, not too much has shocked me. I'd worked with diverse classes of people. I guess I'm most taken back by how our governing system won't provide alternative facilities for kids. And sports shadows over academics. #waledchat
A4: I’ve not. It still makes my blood boil to see others who do the bare minimum & get away with it.
I choose to be even more for those Ss to try to make up for the deficit. No room for status quo in education. This isn’t a trial run; it’s the real thing! Every day! #waledchat
A4: I have taken trauma classes and other classes. I have changed my teaching style. I have practiced patience. I have learned to care for myself and my friends. "Parents only send the best they have." #waledchat
A4: Sometimes it’s literally uttering a prayer that whatever I manage to say will be what the students needs to hear. But I have to make notes of kids I need to follow up on & tag in others like our school counselor. & procedures help cut down on minor interruptions. #waledchat
A4: We are in this together. We do what is best for our kids. We accept one another 's differences like we want the kids to. We never give up standing up for the ones we have been given to love. We remember to be at home and present with our families and learn it is OK.#waledchat
A4: It was a tough road at first. I leaned on veteran teachers. I learned so much more about the importance of relationship building...that our role as educators is so much more than teaching standards. #waledchat
A4:
I read The Zen Teacher. It helped! I go in with the mindset to make each child’s day at least once a week. (I’d love to every day, but in reality it won’t happen daily for 130 students.) I tie our work to their interests, lives, and futures. #waledchat
A4: Our school culture is top notch... kids feel safe there. I work to give kids a great education, a laugh, a crazy teacher who tries to show them crazy is a good thing, I try to be a constant... #waledchat
A4: I’ve not. It still makes my blood boil to see others who do the bare minimum & get away with it.
I choose to be even more for those Ss to try to make up for the deficit. No room for status quo in education. This isn’t a trial run; it’s the real thing! Every day! #waledchat
#waledchat A2: Seeing excitement in children's eyes when they discover something new and hearing them sing songs that have been part of the American fabric for generations
A4 Stay connected. Let them know the family bond you built is real. You will always be there for them to cheer them on, listen, and champion them through. Allow the Ss to know the trust, the relationship, and the work was real. #waledchat
A4. I show up everyday modeling Kids First Always. I just don’t allow kids to be bullied. I’m not afraid to call abT out when they take shots at kids. Silence is condoning. #waledchat
A4 Duck, dodge, slide out of their way whenever possible. Minimize the damage done to the children they work with by making sure they understand that some people just don't know how to be positive. #waledchat
A5: So many moments. Got an email yesterday from a S who was only with our district for a month, but wanted to check in to see how things were going. Also let me know he joined an underwater robotics team because it was the closest offering to what I had taught him. #waledchat
A5: Multiple happy stories this yr. One in particular, a S who was really nervous about having me as his teacher invited me this past week to a pizza party with his TDT teacher for making honor roll. I'm so proud of that kid! He is fantastic (pizza was great btw)! #waledchat
A5: One of my 6th Graders ran up to her sister in 8th Grade and gave her a big hug. Instead of being annoyed, the older sister said hello, gave her a hug and said "I love you!" Such an awesome moment. I may or may not have cried. #waledchat
A5: My students caught me off guard when they told me, "you know that you are all of our favorite, don't you. Not because you are funny, but because you show us we can be proud of our learning and growth"
#waledchat
A4: I have made a concertedeffort to always put what is good for kids in the forefront. I have left a school and a school district because I felt that they were not living up to what they put on their marquee. Championing kids and learning is paramount,#waledchat
A5: One of my favorite people @HistoryislifeDC asked me to write a recommendation for an award.
I then got to be at the school board meeting when she was recognized as winning the local VFW teacher of the year!
#waledchat
A4 I can’t control the tests, but I can control how we approach them. I tell the kids it is just a check in and to do your best. We have a brain break before and use GoNoodle videos #waledchat
A5: Last Friday every child in my school was able to celebrate reading on World Read Aloud Day with a mystery reader from the community. It’s a huge WIN for me to see children fall in love with reading! #waledchat
A4) I confront the slow pace of change by trying to celebrate the little accomplishments, listen more to what other adults need, be an example, cheer on other teachers who try new things, and speak up when needed to keep focus on kids, even if it is uncomfortable #waledchat
A5 Did a "Challenge Day" with a group of students that was incredibly powerful. Teachers & students were both vulnerable and trusting of each other. We laughed, cried and celebrated what makes us all unique. Very powerful day. #waledchat
A5: Ss arguing about the benefits and challenges of social conformity using statistics and anecdotes and excerpts from the Giver. It was great because I just shut up and watched as they did all the work and stretched themselves far more than I could have have. #waledchat
Circle of Concern versus Circle of Influence
This is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but people who are truly proactive have this ability. Props to you on finding your way to this conclusion. #waledchat
A5: I am working on an Earth and Nature unit in my 1st grade Spanish classes. We're connecting to @NatGeo resources to learn about environments and animals. It was awesome today to hear them speak so excitedly about ways they save the earth and cool animals. So fun! #waledchat
I am always asking questions in follow up conversations. It blows kids minds, but I really care about them and what is going on in their lives. They are very important to me. #waledchat

A5: I had a moment when I figured out a S didn’t really hate my class. I just wasn’t challenging the S in the right way. Had a lightbulb moment and witnessed a spark of interest I wasn’t expecting. #waledchat
A5: My first couple of weeks, my Ss were trying to get a feel of me and who I was. Within my first month, I was getting notes of appreciation and how happy they were that I was there. They still hang in my office on my board. #waledchat
Thanks for coming! We will be off next Thursday (I've got a date with a wonderful woman! @LBStrunk!). We will be back in chat action again 2/21! :) #waledchat
A5: We talked about Innovative Kindness w/Ss, then watched them create something to make the world a better place. Seeing their passionate ideas gave me hope for a brighter future! Here's the post if you want to read about our lesson: https://t.co/gqk3JIs9Dt#waledchat
A5 a student sent me an email of encouragement this year because she wanted me to know we have the “best school ever” and if I ever needed anything she would be willing to help #waledchat
A5 I've connected globally with so many amazing educators through Twitter & just this week I've been sharing my HK Chinese New Year experience with @QuyenTaylor68 and her Yr 2 class in Anaheim, California - that makes me smile #waledchat
A5-I told a student, “All four on the floor, don’t lean back, you could hurt yourself!” I said, “Students, what could happen if he leans back in his chair?” My impulsive chat cake resident expert yells, “He could break his nipples!” 😳😳
She meant knuckles!!!!!!!! #waledchat
A5: There have been so many awesome moments this year, I can’t pick one: the excitement my learners show as they persevere through a tough topic, the smile on their faces when they finally get it, the pride they show when sharing their knowledge in their own way. #waledchat
Yeah it’s along those lines! Students (and Ts) who thought they were alone in their struggles found common ground w/ each other. It was uplifting, humbling, everything you could want. It brought us much closer together! #waledchat
A5: Yesterday a S from last yr described in great detail our special month-long unit that centered around Ireland. Didn't remember the standards, but remembered the project, games, etc. Told others it was her favorite. #waledchat
A5: I made a negative comment about myself. A student said, "Don't be mean to yourself. You don't let us do that to ourselves." It was eye-opening. #waledchat
A5: just Tues. 2 of my Hispanic students arrived to class early. 1 speaks very little English. They picked up my mics & were playing. So I turned on Vivir mi Vida on phone. We sang loud and silly. After, 1 said: You sing good. Your Spanish, not so good! ❤️ them!! #waledchat
A5: Yesterday as I was calling my friend crying from the hospital after losing my father in law, the student that we share who is nonverbal said "Hi" to me on the phone and wanted to know if I was okay as he had seen me crying before I left. #waledchat
A4: Remembering that time when...my Ss discovered the Northwest Tree Octopus 🌲🐙was not real & they were DUPED by a deceptive and non-credible website as we researched online resource credibility! Loved their shocked and smiling faces! 😲🤯 #waledchat@nearpod
